Trust Nigerian airlines for delay. The most painful part was that I still waited for 2 more hours before departure(Lagos-Ilorin, Arik). If I had trekked I would have even met the flight. grin

is Honda CRV not a Jeep?
Also, couldn't the Jeep be his official car, if not his CRV?

I didn't put KJ there. You all saw the nominations and those that nominated her.
In your estimation and that of 15 other people that felt same, Katsumoto deserved it, but more people(17) disagreed. Democracy is a game of number, you know.

LAGOSBOY IS 2010 ISLAM FOR MUSLIMS SECTION POSTER OF THE YEAR
After losing last year's award to Muhsin, Lagosboy has emerged 2010 Islam for Muslims Section Poster of The Year, beating Chakula by one vote. Nopuqeater took the third spot.

By this award, Lagosboy becomes an ambassador of this Section. We expect him to continue with his good comportment and witty analysis.
He is also free to use 'NL Islam for Muslims Section Poster of The Year - 2010' as his signature if he so wishes. I'm also talking with higher authorities on conferring him(and winners in other sections) special privileges with respect to special forum facilities.

Brothers, Sisters and Friends of the section, join me in congratulating LAGOSBOY, the best poster in one of the best sections in the largest forum in the largest black nation in the world!!!!

Till next year when someone succeeds him(or he retains it), I say thank you all for your cooperation throughout the year. You were all wonderful.

DAPOBEAR IS 2010 POLITICS SECTION POSTER OF THE YEAR
At the end the keenly contested award for the Best Poster in Politics Section, DAPOBEAR has emerged the winner for 2010. He edged out pre-result favourite, Katsumoto by one vote. Kobojunkie emerged the 2nd runners-up.

BRIEF PROFILE OF DAPOBEAR: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?action=profile;u=66298
Although he has been on NL since 2006, he became active around October 2010, just two months ago. And within just two months, his contribution was so noticed that he clinched this award ahead of old equally respected old-timer analysts. Such is Dapobear's quality. He is no doubt in a class of his own. The manner he deploys facts and history to back his arguments tells a lot about Dapo's intelligence.

"Structure is very important. The decentralized, competitive, free-market nature of the American education system imo is part of what makes it so successful. Schools serve the needs of the populace here. They aren't just appendages of the government that will exist regardless of the quality of job they are doing.

Excellence here is also rewarded. The best schools in America KNOW they are the best and charge more money as a result. Harvard costs more money than University of Maryland. In Nigeria, there is less of a differential in prices between the best schools in Nigeria and the worst ones. This suggests inefficiency in allocating resources, I think.

I'm not saying the American education system is perfect, but I think it does a better job of utilizing resources than the Nigerian one"

English: Banana | Yoruba: Ogede | Yoruba Pronunciation: Orgirdey

Exactly the same pronunciation with Ogede(Banana). Just remove the 'g' in Ogede above and replace with 'd', and pronounce without changing any other thing.

Being from Ogun state, you may not be familiar with the word, but it's more common in Oyo, Osun(excluding Ijesa) and Kwara versions of Yoruba.

@ Sagamite,
Odede in that context is best translated as 'home'. L'odede means 'at home'.
So 'iyawo gidi lodede oko gidi' means a good wife in the home of a good husband(the whole sentence is actually a wish for good home).

MY STORY:
It was a very turbulent search period that lasted for 4 years(2006 to 2010), which I have discussed here in the thread on what's happening in your life, but alhamdulilah it's ending. I'm finally being inducted into post-bachelor life.

I never expected it will take this long for me to marry. Not because I'm very old(clocked 28 in August) but because of  the dimension the whole thing took.
My plan was actually to marry before 27. 27 hit the tape, no show; 28, no show. It was difficult, there was pressure from home, from friends who had married and expected me to have done so too. The most disturbing path was that I never had a relationship that lasted 6 months. The whole thing kept falling like a pack of cards, most times the fault being mine, and sometimes from the other party. Even this one that I'm eventually taking to the 'mimbar', I had called it quit on two ocassions before giving myself brain that: what else do you want, Jarus? Alhamdulilah, I'm happy I'm crossing this stage. It was really difficult. But the main lesson is that please let's be prayerful. The main mistake I made in the past was that I wanted a totally faultless lady, but the reality is no human is perfect. But it took me long to digest thsi reality.

So insha Allah, come January 2nd 2011, at Ilorin, I will be completing 50% of my deen. The January 2nd event is not going to be so elaborate, just something like a 100-people event, but at a date to be announced later, I'll be having a close-down-the-street wolimatul nikka  grin You will be invited for that one too insha Allah.

JARUS COMPLETES 50% cheesy
My aqeedu Nikka holds as follows:

Date: January 2nd, 2011
Venue: Phase 1, Airforce base, by Oando Filling station, Oloje, Ilorin, Kwara state

Wolimatul Nikka holds at a later date during the year insha Allah.

Hajj & Hajia Jarus invite you cheesy cheesy

Darthmaul:
if only eto'o was a brazilian. He would have won like two world players of the year. He is top 3 greatest goal poachers d game has seen this decade. 4get messi, dis guy is d man.
100% spot on, for the bolded. The only consistent striker since 2002. His peers in the business of goal-poaching at the time(Henry, RVN, Shevchenko) are now off-limelight.
But for the unbolded, hmmmnnnn, let's not stretch it too far. Messi cannot be dismissed with a wave of hand under any circumstance.

It's a great pity. Very pathetic.
Salute to the SAN for going to that extent to save an employee, a receptionist.

Being a frequent picnicker at Oniru beach, especially some years back when I was living at a shout away from it, I don't go near the waters. I dread water, not to talk of swimming.

Regrets, once again.

If this statement was truly made by our Minister of Information, then we are in serious trouble in thsi country.
An information minister is expected to be enlightened, current.
He can be pardoned if he said GEJ popularized FB in Nigeria(which is also wrong, given the fact that FB has been popular far before GEJ), but to say GEJ brought FB to Nigeria is height of ignorance.

Lagosboy:
Very true Jarus, LAi mohammed and Joe igbokwe have been very vocal and always in the media engaging the PDP policies and actions. There is no other opposition in Nigeria as ANPP is virtually non existent in terms of engaging the PDP.

The problem i forsee with ACN is the actual benefactor himself in the person of the Bourdillon god father. Everyone has his time and and if he doesnt cut his excesses all the governors might fall out with him like what is happeneing with Fashola.
Insightful.
