Pele Vs Maradona. Zidane Vs Ronaldinho. C.Ronaldo Vs Messi. These appear to be the hottest, most dragged football personality debates in history. Personally, I go like this: For the latter two, I will easily choose Zidane and Messi. But I don't have much info to make a categorical choice in the first debate, as I have only watched highlights of Pele's game(and highlights could at times be misleading). |
ogbongzky:SA 2010 truly matters more, but beating France also matters oooo. . . at least we'll have something to reference in the next 10 years, just as we keep referencing our victory over Spain, 11 years after ![]() |

paddycool:Hey bros, when you criticize, do so with informed facts. Kano is not North central. It's officially grouped as North West. Let's even assume you want to talk freely, ignoring official classifications, 'core north' would have been a better description. Second, Gemade's brother, not son is the MD of FHA. Now to the points you raised, I personally think merit should override Federal Character in national appointments, but in a country that is very sensitive as ours, I don't disagree with Federal character, but competence should not be toyed with. If the office is zoned to the South, get the most competent from the South, if zoned to North to the North, get the best from there. Sanusi is arguably the best from the north. Anyone recall that Soludo(CBN Guv), Iweala(Finance Minister) and other key managers of our economy under Obj were all from South East? |
Regular audit like this is definitely good, as it alerts passengers to what to fly, while waking up the airline operators, as they know they will lose customers. But personally, much as I prefer Arik(domestic), I normally travel by the next available flight, whether Bellview or Chachangi or IRS or any other. Crash is the last thing that comes to my mind when I'm doing the booking or buying ticket. I think more of where I'm going and what I'm going to do. So I fly any airline. Maybe when I board, I can think of crash. |
I will ask him: -Why was Ribadu persecuted? -Why did he give information ministry to Dora Akunyili, with no PR background, instead of Health or related ministry? -Why did he make Sam Egwu a minister? |

Let me comment on a number of issues raised here for or against Sanusi's choice: N20m Donation What's the big deal in this? An MD of an organization as big as FBN made a paltry N20million(yes, to his alma mater) and that's been made an issue here. The issue that could have arisen is:Did the board approve it? I don't know FBN's GMD's approval limit but I'm very sure his approval limit will not be less than N50milion. Let's even say he can't solely approve such an amount, is there any evidence to show the highest approval authority(the board) did not approve it. N20million for that matter. On the issue of the donation being to his alma mater, that too is very much in order too. It would have been a different case if it had been to his personal/family/associate's school. Organizations make donations, as his alma mater is as deserving of it as any other school. Sanusi's competence I would have actually wanted someone with reasonable experience in international finance as CBN Governor, given the increasing interconnectedness of global economy. That would have been a plus, but definitely not a prerequisite. Soludo came from academia, but with robust experience in international financial consultancy. Okonjo Iweala,Oby Ekweziele(or what's her name?), Ogunjimi are all foreign-grown. A totally home-grown Sanusi is not a bad idea, actually. We cannot write him off. The only noise about his appointment was on Federal character[ all our key economy Managers(Shamsudeen,Muktar and now Sanusi) are from Kano]. I have not heard any key commentator on the economy raising objection about his competence or past. Rather, informed analysts have attested to his strong inclination to ethical banking. He's been said to be Nigeria's current best brain in Risk management. My only fear for him is that he will be benchmarked against Soludo. I doubt if he can be as visible and vocal as Soludo, even though 'more talk' has not been known to translate to more performance, but will Nigerians want to hear this? PS: Soludo had his first degree in Economics(1984), Sanusi also in Economics(1981); Soludo Msc Economics(1987), Sanusi Msc Economics(1983). I have my first degree in Economics too, but now an Accountant(even though it's just a temporary career diversion). I'm seriously considering going back to the Financial sector and making use of my Economics knowledge too. I continue to like that field everyday!!!! |
Players in camp as at Monday night: Joseph Akpala, Omatsone Aluko, Vincent Enyeama, Oluwaseyi Olofinjana, Sam Sodje, Elderson Echiejile, Dickson Etuhu, Onyekachi Apam, Olubayo Adefemi, Yusuf Ayila, Bamidele Aiyenugba, Sani Kaita, Nwankwo Kanu, Austin Ejide, Osaze Odemwingie, Obinna Nwaneri, Yusuf Mohammed, Ayodele Adeleye, Danny Shittu, Obinna Nsofor, Kalu Uche, Ikechukwu Uche. Still being expected(as @ Monday):Joseph Yobo and John Mikel Obi This is obviously Nigeria's best injury-free legs, save the absence of Taiye Taiwo. If Yobo and Mikel make it to camp, I will like to see this team against France: - - - - - - - - - - -Enyeama- - - - - - - - - - Yusuf/Apam - - Yobo- - -Adeleye- - - Echiejiene - - - -- - - - - - - - -Ayila- - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Kalu Uche- - - - - Mikel- - - - - - - - --Ike Uche- - - - - Akpala - - - - - -Osaze- - - NB: Akpala appears to be our only centre forward in camp, so no choice. This team is definitely a laughing stock, compared one on one with the French side, but football is not played by individual name. Many people appear pessimistic here, and that is very understandable given SE's performance against even minnows, but I still believe anything can happen, and even if France will beat us, it wont be a massacre, maybe a 1-0 or 2-1 win. I'm no believer in SE but I know this can be a platform to re-launch their image in international football. The last high profile victory SE recorded was in 1998, over a decade ago, against Spain. Since then we had become a laughing stock in even African football, losing/drawing against teams with no pedigree in word football, like Uganda,Angola etc. In any case, win or lose, we will have something to reference in the next few years. |
''Those who disbelieved in the prophet will be punished insha allah'' Are you not ashamed of yourself? You have no right to call yourself a human being. A real human being will be compassionate and say ''those who disbelived the prophet will be punished,MAY ALLAH HAVE MERCY''. Is anything wrong in praying for mercy? But no,you just l ove the idea of your allah punishing people,it warms your cockles.Shame on you for showing your heartlessness and barbarism to the world.
If you know how grave it is to disbelieve in your creator, you will not say this. . .but in any case, it is our prayer that Allah shows mercy to them in this world and guide them to Islam. But if they die in their disbelief, no prayer or hope for them again o! davidylan:Where did you get this? Everyone? No, far from truth. I will replace 'everyone' with 'some' and give you the reason why some will be in hell temporarily(May Allah save us from that). Consider this scenario: Muslim A believes in oneness of Allah, prays five times daily, doesn't lie, fornicate, drink alcohol etc Muslim B also believes in oneness of Allah but disobeys Him, doesn't pray, fornicates, steals, drinks alcohol etc. Do you think it is fair to A, who had restrained himself and been patient despite Shaytan's invitation to the so called enjoyments of life, to be put in same paradise with B, who wasn't patient in this world? Or what will distinguish a Muslim that fornicated(and didn't repent) with one that didn't on the day of judgment? This is why some Muslims will taste Allah's punishment on the day of judgment, but will later be admitted to paradise. But it is not automatic, as Allah is so merciful that even a Muslim that disobeyed Him on earth, while still having faith in Allah, may still make Paradise without tasting Hellfire. If it were automatic, straight-away paradise for every Muslim, then refraining from other prohibited acts like adultery, illegally usurping another person's properties, stealing, etc becomes unnecessary. |
seunallday:This is the point. I have seen many people try it but fail. |
After Soludo has worked on strenght, Sanusi focusing on ethics, as his close associates claimed he had confided in them, will not be a bad idea, but he will definitely step on many toes. But if Soludo, with all the death threats he claimed he received for daring recapitalization, could survive, we hope Sanusi would also fearlessly pursue this to its conclusion. Let's wait and see. |
I'm not surprised at all. I had always known Muntari and Esien will do well as a wrestler or boxer. Or isn't their 'undertaker' style of play enough to show what they can do? ![]() |
It's been long SE played this high profile friendly, the last time being the Abuja annihiliation by Brazil in, I think, 2004(?). I expect France to win, but I expect SE to 'carry nose'. Maybe a 2-1 win ifo France. |
tocdee:No disrespect to Torres, and indeed, I'll have to throw a coin to determine who's better between him and Eto'o at the moment, but I disagree with boldened part. Just as Henry, Messi, Iniesta are laying the balls to his feet, he does same for them too. Ever noticed Eto'o is hardly selfish? He has a significant number of assists too. |
Some days ago I opened this thread with a view to commenting, but I realized that posting a serious comment here means dignifying the poster's stupid reasoning, I just closed it without dropping any comment. |
Outside religion section, I respect Debosky. |
Anyone observe Eto'o has been the only recurring name in 'world's best striker' arguments since 2004? In 2004-2006, it was who was the best striker in the world between Eto'o, Henry and Shevchenko? In 2006 -2007, it was who was the best striker in the world between Eto'o, Drogba or Luca Toni? And now, the argument is who's the best striker in the world: Eto'o, Villa or Torress? |
I watched a game between racine and one team at onikan, after the half, the ref was jubilating with the racine players 2-0 upNairalander no go kill me ooooo ![]() |
Dr Kitaun:Is he still around on NL? ![]() |
I want to believe the list is not in any order, otherwise Kofi Anan should come only behind Obama and Mandela. The honour he got @ English FA final is enough to show how influential he is in 2009. I disagree with Aliko and Dangote being there. |
Femi aburo mi, Bawo ni. I was in Offa last week. I would have come to visit you if you were also around. Over to your question, I don't think you're right. The reason why you thought that was that, salat has become part of almost 100% hausa people, including those engage in sinful acts of gambling, smoking weeds etc. Smoking, prostituting, gambling etc are definitely not good but at least they have a mark in salat. And they are still better than a non-smoker who doesn't pray, but the better is to keep all Allah's rule; salat, character, and other do's and refrain from all don'ts. May Allah help us. |
dayokanu:Made me remember when somebody was arguing with me that Aghahowa was better than Eto'o ![]() Until we Nigerians start to see things dispassionately, we will continue to see ourselves as best in Africa, while things continue to go wrong. |
Dr Kitaun:ROTFLMAO ![]() |
In fairness, this was not a bad game, and perhaps the best performance from SE in recent time. Or did anybody think we will whip Ireland NT 10-0 or have 100% possession? This was a team that had Robbie Keane, Damien Duff, Shay Given and a host of other well-known names in world football, a team that has qualifiers next week, and so needed to take this Grade A friendly seriously, a team coached by a world class coach. We paraded our B team(even though our A team would not have done better) and Ireland paraded their best legs, and it was a 50-50 game. I'm an avid critic of Eagles, but I don't think that was a poor outing. Kalu Uche was our best on the field, tried the play making role and did well. Kudos to the guys. |
gyde:Better said. . . And you think it's that easy to be your own boss. All those talks are just theory. |
Salam alaikum my brothers and sisters, Barka Jumuah. I prayed Jumuah as usual at Eti-Osa Lg Secretariat mosque. In his sermon, the Imam discussed how Nigeria has been in shambles despite the abundant resources at our disposal. He prayed for our leaders. |
Dr Kitaun:Still waiting for 'anything' to happen. This is May and my boy is still Africa's hottest. Eto'o has done it again at the biggest stage. By now, Samuel's name has finally been etched in Barca's history. The Club has 3 UCL trophies, and he scored the crucial(opening) goal in 2. If not for injury, the guy would have have won African Player of the Year award eight times, 2003-2009. Drogba(2006), Kanoute(2007) and Adebayor(2008) should just thank injury. Now the king is back to claim his award in 2009. I hope all the 'Hayatou gave him' theorists are still around. |
I hope France will parade their full squad. I know they won't embarrass Nigeria. Maybe a 1-0 win. |
