So u're also a Great Ife. Good knowing prominent Nlders are Great Ife. The King of NL himself matriculated as Ife student. Dayokanu,Eastbay(?) and some other folk in sports section are also Great Ife. I can remember one sports thread suddenly turning into Great Ife discussions.

When did u graduate? Were you Seun's mate?

I was discussing this with my brother yesternight. I can't believe it. How can somebody get life imprisonment just for protesting his rights? When I saw the headline in newspaper yesterday, I thought it was the soldiers taht sold arms to Niger Delta militants, but when I read teh story and, about the same time, heard it on Channels TV, I can't believe it. This is the most ridiculous judgement I've ever heard.

I was also surprised seeing the long queues again this morning. I had thought I would just stroll into Lekki Mobil F/station, fuel my car and head to office. I was surprised seeing what seemed like a queue, right from Eti-Osa Secretariat roundabout. I can't stand the queue. I had to turn back. I will give it another try by evening when I close.hope it has subsided then.

Olagunju taught me 305 & 306. They were one of my best courses. What I saw about those courses, and maybe any other course Olagunju takes, is that you have to be analytical and write plenty Oyinbo.I observed this during his lectures, and prepared for him. So I wrote my ass off in those two exams. Scored 72A(highest was 73) in 305 and 76A in 306(highest was 80A).

Hey Great Ife,
Part 1 is just too easy to build GP, but you need to sustain it in subsequent levels, else what you built in part 1 will collapse, especially in part 3. I had a friend that finished part 1 with 4.9 but still did not make First class. So, while it is easy to build GP in part 1, it is equally easy to watch it scatter, especially when you begin departmental courses. Part 4 is also not that difficult, only that it may be too late to make any serious effect then. I had my best result in First semester part 4, did the highest number of courses in class, voluntarily chose two extra electives to make my courses 7 instead of 5, and blasted A in all. But the next and final semester was my worst. I had calculated my GP and I knew I can't drop below 4.5 even if I had D in all my courses. At the same time I knew If I had A in all my courses, I can't win the Faculty Prize. Two hot guys were far ahead of me and I knew they wont drop. So there was nothing to motivate me to be serious. I became very unserious. I will not wake up until 9 am, missed all 7 & 8 o'clock classes. Never showed up in ECN 422 class(operatns research) up to 4 times because it was fixed for 8 am. I was also SIFE President then and Coordinator of Faculty of Social Sciences Muslim Students, in addition to many other extra-curricular activities. Taking SSC 106 tutorials in Mosque, from Faj to Awo, training those part 1 students. I practically abandoned my class works. Hardly attended lectures. Not unexpectedly, I had the worst result in my 8 semesters in Ife that final semester(2As, 1B, 1C and 1D GP: 3.86). It drastically ate my CGPA to a little below 4.6. But I'm somehow regretting it today. I fell drastically in Class ranking. People that had always trailed me eventually finished with higher CGPA. And that was the final semester, no time to reclaim my spot in Top 5, as I always did anytime I fumbled in one semester. It pains me today seeing 5 after point in my CGPA, as it never appeared in my CGPA from part 1 to 4. But all the same, I thank God.

Politics is everywhere. Where you have two or three people living/working together, politics is almost inevitable. And Office is no different. Office politics range from the complex and continuous one to the ordinary, simple and one-off . It could be very intriguing. It makes or mar people. Yet, some are harmless.

Thanks for your reply and the quote that you provided which is very informative. Like I said, I dont know wheather it is in the koran or not, I just bassed my argument on the conduct of a few Moslem's that I work with.

I was surprised at your post especially the highlighted parts, it is definitely very true, touching, and non-racist. But what I don't understand is how come some people read that in their holy book and still don't refrain from racism.

I guess we have such in all religions. Some Christians defend their atrocity with the bible eventhough the bible condem such atrocities.

This has taught me a lesson never to judge a book by its cover.

I was surprised that such words of love is from the Koran. Based on the quotations that some people have provided even in this forum, I thought the Koran was full of hatred. I know somebody once said that the prophet Mohamed once gave up his black salves for one non black one. Is this true?

Did prophet condone slavery?

After reading what he said in the verse that you provided I find it hard to believe that such a wise man can be a racist.

I also must commend your civility, rather than getting upset and insulting, you replied with facts. I wish some of your fellow Moslem's will learn from you. They are rather very quick to anger when somebody says something against Islam based on his or her personal experience.
Thank you too, for displaying rare open-mindedness and objectivity, as opposed to having a warped mindset. I read readiness to listen from your very first statement that 'I don't know whether this is in the Koran or not. . . '' and that was why I took my time to explain to you.
As you also observed from that speech I quoted, anything that came out from the mouth of Prophet(PBUH) was usually full of wisdom and touching. This speech is an example. If every Muslim abides by just this speech, sticking to the advice given in that sermon, we Muslims will not be in this situation today, but many of us have deviated and have abandoned this priceless prophetic advice. The Qur'an is filled with such words of love and affection.

As regards the question on slavery, I'm not very good in that area, so I can't answer that question. And the Prophet has advised us to keep silent rather than say that which one does not know. So I'm inviting more knowledgeable brothers, Lagosboy and Babs87, to answer the question.

Here you guys go lying again. There is definitely hairachy in Islam. Moslems generly think that arabic poeple and arabic moslems are superior. I work with a bunch of Arabic moslems who are racists and dont believe that blacks can be true moslems.

I dont know if this is in the Koran or not but Arabic moslems always look down on black moslems. I have see this happen so many times. History tells it clearly enough. Please find out why malcolm x was delayed from entering mecca on his first vissit to mecca.

I know an Arabic moslem who think that blacks moslems, esspecially nation of islam is an abomination before allah.

If you think that all moslems are equall, go to saudi arebia and see how they treat blacks.
If anything, there is no other religion that frowns against racism more than Islam. So grave is racism that the prophet(PBUH) specifically mentioned it in his all-important last sermon, which could be described as summary of his message. That is how grave racism is. Let me reproduce the sermon here:

After praising, and thanking God, the Prophet, may God send His praises upon him said:

“O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore, listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. God has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. God has Judged that there shall be no interest, and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn Abd’al Muttalib shall henceforth be waived,

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under a trust from God and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship God, perform your five daily prayers, fast during the month of Ramadan, and offer Zakat. Perform Hajj if you have the means.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve. An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have any superiority over an Arab; white has no superiority over black, nor does a black have any superiority over white; [none have superiority over another] except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.

Remember, one day you will appear before God and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me, and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O people, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the Quran and my example, the Sunnah, and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and it may be that the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O God, that I have conveyed your message to your people.”

Thus the beloved Prophet completed his Final Sermon, and upon it, near the summit of Arafat, the revelation came down:

“…This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My Grace upon you, and have chosen Islam for you as your religion…” (Quran 5:3)
The prophet, not necessarily the Arabs, is our model in Islam. And whatever he said or did definitely supercedes whatever any other other human, Arab or non Arab, says or does. So any Arab that thinks he's more superior to black Muslims is definitely ignorant, and I'm sure knowledgeable Muslim Arabs will not say that.

Looking at your argument more critically it appears you reached your conclusion based on the the way Nation of Islam adherents are seen by orthodox Muslims. Ironically, that should even be a point for the fact that Islam is not a racist religion. The nation of Islam is essentially racist, more of defending black interest, hiding under Islam. May Allah guide them aright, this is wrong. But the good thing is that is that most of tehm eventually finf the truth and join orthodox Islam, like Malcom X.

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: How To Get A Job Without Years Of Experience? by Jarus(m): 8:46pm On Apr 24, 2009
First and foremost, you can surely get job without experience. Almost all companies, especially banks and other organizations, have what is called Graduate Recruitment programme or Management trainee programme or put alternatively, looking for Fresh graduates, Fresh hires, Management trainees, Executive trainees, Graduate trainees and different nomenclatures. This is very common and is real. No experience is required there.

Similarly, as against what many people believe, with 2 years experience, you can get an experienced hire job that has a requirement of 5 years. Although some organizations are strict with this requirement, many organizations waive it i.e invite an applicant with 2 years experience for a job advertised as requiring 4 years experience. But the quality of the experience, richness of the CV, and your performance at the job interview have a lot to play here. If you have spent 3 years in Shell for example, and a job is advertised in say Oando where the minimum experience required is 5 years, given the quality of that 3 years experience(coming from a reputable organization with solid training programme), and you demonstrate your stuff in interview, you can clinch the job. The job I'm doing now requires experience of 3-5 years as contained in my Job description but I clinched the job, even though I had less than 1 year work experience when I joined.

So don't be scared of those prohibitive years of experience requirement!

To set the ball rolling, I was 2006 set.

Much as I was not his fan(we clashed a couple of times), I think Adejumo was the best junior lecturer in that department, as far as I'm concerned. The guy is too good. There is not subject he can't take, with ease. Our set was the first time he handled Industrial Economics (ECN 311 & 312). and he simplified the hitherto dreaded course. Other courses he taught me like ECN 301, SSC 201, ECN 409 and SSC 102 were also effectively handled. His marking were also predictable. If you did well in his exams, you will pass. In other words, output(result) reflects input(what you wrote). It was only in ECN 312 I had B in all the courses he taught me. I clashed with him in final year when I I, alongside several other students missed early morning ECN 409 test, and after begging him and he did not heed I, on behalf of other students, wrote a letter to the course coordinator(his oga, Dr. Olusi) and she ordered him to fix a make-up for us. He felt I had rendered him powerless by contacting her Oga straight and he wanted to deal with me, claiming I lied in that letter. Under duress, other students that missed the test dissociated themselves from the letter and I was left to carry my cross. Only Bidemi stood by me. The case got to Fabroo and he ordered taht our exams be made 100% instead of 60%. I had thought he would victimize me, but to my surprise, I had 70A in that course.

Gotta go now. More later.

Or did you offer a course in teh department, as a student of other department?
Let's talk here:

Who was your favourite lecturer? Or if your favourite lecturer was not your best lecturer, who was your best lecturer?
Were you ever at the receiving end of Fabroo's knock, verbal of physical?
What was your best course? And the worst?
Who were your friends then? And if you don't mind telling us, where are they now?
Can we discuss Ife Economics products doing well now?

Stop mixing up pictures for the aim of misinformation

The first set of pictures might be 'Hizbollah' wannabes, but the other sets with the green uniforms are 'Hisbah' - Religious police employed by the Kano State government for enforcement of Shari'ah law and nothing more.

Muslims carry banners of all sorts of people in their events and cannot be said to be Hizbollah simply for carrying pictures the same way people wearing Osama Bin Laden t-shirts can't be simply called Al Qaida adherents. DEBOSKY
These pictures are at least 3 years old if not more because I know I have seen them somewhere online a long time ago. SAGAMITE
what's the proof that this is Nigeria and not Chad or Niger republic ? OSISI
This is all a hoax. Until proven otherwise. PATAKI
NL is really changing, and for good. Debosky, Sagamite, Richyblack,Pataki and most surprisingly, Osisi have all demonstrated here that even if you want to criticize a set of people, your source has to be credible and your points have to be reasonable. Twisting of pictures by some people to press home their criticism of a set of people(anyone remember that kenyan picture titled as Katsina?) is now in vogue in NL and saner Landers have been up to the task of exposing the idiocy of the perpetrators.

Long time. It's been quite hectic since Monday. The Auditors are still around, digging and digging into our accounts and asking questions upon questions. This audit is lasting longer than necessary, and we hope these Auditors will wrap up by the end of thsi month.

More importantly guys, I'm considering seeking a fresh challenge elsewhere. I've had reasonable Accounting experience and since I don't want to establish a long term career in accounting i want to move on.There was an internal vacancy advert for the post of Retail Business Analyst and i considered applying, which means I will move from Finance to another department - Retail. But I dropped that at the alst minute.

I'm considering seeking challenge in an organization where my knowledge of Economics will be the major tool. Anyone has any info about CBN? I'm also looking at investment banking arms of some banks, but being used to stress-free work environment, compared to the stress in banks, I'm not very keen at joining a bank.

Anyway, I've not started throwing my CV around, but before middle of this year, I may be contributing to NL from another company.
