Please where can I get 'Great Ife' car sticker in Lagos? I need to buy one. Or is anybody in Ife coming to Lagos this or next week? You may help me get one in the university bookshop. Call me on 08061198625. @Banwo, My senior, how're you doing? How's UK? Banwo kan, Ife Economics kan btw 2001-2004. I knew you very well. You were in part 4, when I was in 2. You were arguably the most popular Economics student then. But you tried o, combining active campus politics with your academics and still making First Class. I envied you then. |
@Laplace, Which set were you in Ife? |
Hey all welcomers, Happy to be back after two weeks leave. Audit has finally ended. No arguing and explaining again. Now I can face my normal, routine work. |
@Phemour, Abuzola is saying the truth o. May Allah save us from it. . . .and we need to work hard to save ourselves o. |

First and foremost, I don't need any miracle to prove the authenticity of Islam, just as you can hardly judge a religion by its people. In ascertaining the authenticity of a religion, you look at the origin and the message. Islam is the only religion that is not named after a personality or any other object of worship. But this is not an issue being discussed on this thread. Anytime I see those Christian and some deviant Muslim miracle mongers displaying their deceit called miracles, I just laugh. Is miracle that cheap? I wonder how people fall for those cheap deceit. These pastors and deviant alfa have been exposed several times. We read almost daily in papers how they are caught with rituals, how their 'arrangee' miracles are exposed, but it still amazes me seeing people rush fall victims of these deceit. The truth is the so called miracle mongers employ an agent of shaytan called Jinn, and some others are mere open manipulations of logic and fact. Miracles truly exist, and Olabowale and others have explained here the miracles of the Qur'an. In the present day, miracle is still very possible, and in fact it happens, but it is not as cheap as anybody just laying claim to one. On testimony, there is nothing wrong in relaying a miraculous experience so that other Muslims can also increase their trust in Allah, but open staging and fixing date, time etc, making it a special programme, is highly discouraged, because it could lead to another thing. Some people may start coming up with fabrications. I have narrated here on NL several times, how recitation of Quranic verses cured a known person afflicted by Jinn. I witnessed it and tears came out of my eyes as I saw the power of Qur'an live. The jinn was talking from the person's mouth. An atheist Nairalander, Bindex, also confessed to witnessing one in Kano in one topic sometime ago. A Christian nairalander, but now having strong love for Islam,(I think the username is owl or something)in one topic, also narrated how ayatul kursiyyu(Q2:255) also miraculously helped him in warding off a jinn that was disturbing him in his house in Manchester. These are current day miracles, beyond science, but we Muslims don't go around publicizing it in the name of open testimonies, lest it becomes abused and some people come with fabrications. We only say it if need be. |
Folami 86, You have already been answered. Islam teaches respect to all humans. Since you only brought question, the answer is NO. If you have any contrary opinion, bring your justifications, and let's disprove them one by one. |
The last time I wrote and sent a letter through NIPOST was around 2002, when I sent an article to Punch for publication. Around that time I also replied by post a letter a friend of mine in Yola. I don't even think I still remember how to write a letter now. It's entirely different from writing e-mail letter. However, I remember sending a document(not hand written letter) through EMS from Sokoto to Lagos in 2007. |
Yes to both questions. Confirmed from a student. |
If anything, the development should even be a case for the sincerity of the university. Thoroughly investigating and sacking lecturers to save the school's name and ensure only competent lecturers teach students. Many unis are note even organized enough to carry out such cleansing, and inept lecturers abound there. Good move, my Great Ife. Let's continue to cleanse our school while they cover their own. |
While I admit that due to the 'la cram, la pour' syndrome in many Nigerian university, many of our grads(not only First Class, but First Class is somehow unpardonable)overlook the basics of knowledge, especially of English, which is the medium of communication, I canot rule out cheap publicity and alarmism in the woman's interview. Probably she just wanted to publicize her HR outfit. Many of us overlook the basics of English language for big grammar. Not being able to spell 'graduate' for a primary 6 pupil is serious, not to talk of a First Class graduate, but it is very hard for me to accept the woman's outcry. How did she know? Did she ask her to spell it or saw it spelt wrongly on the person's CV? I have a feeling that she saw it misspelt on her/his CV, and that could be a typo. If however, it is true that the person could not truly spell it, then it is very serious, and interview tension is not an excuse here. In any case, I don't believe Nigerian grads, irrespective of grade, are bad. They have gone out there and prove to the world what they are capable of doing, shattering records in overseas universities. To Becomrich, you will never cease to amaze. You are a comedian par excellence. Thanks for adding humour to this thread by that your post. |

@Fellis & Lagosboy, Your advice is noted. Thanks |
The explanation that 'Yoruba' came as a name for the Yorubas because we say it too often appears more sensible to me than any other explanation. Yoruba(meaning when) is quite commonly said among us, and I had always thought and still think that is why we are called 'Yoruba' people. In any case, i don't see it as derogatory. When anybody calls me Yoruba or berebe(as Hausa call us), I don't feel insulted. I call our gatemen aboki or mallo and they also call me Mallam Berebe, and we laugh it off. And in the midst of igbos, I proudly say 'me I be Yoruba boy o' to tell them I'm Yoruba. |
I had said it some time ago on one topic on NL Travel section that I will like to move to Abuja from Lagos. Lagos is surely the land of 'ogbon', but I'm somehow tired of the place. The traffic is hellish. I do go to Abuja and I love the place, but it cannot be as lively as Eko akete. More beautiful than Lagos, but it can be boring. But the good thing is you can always fly to Lagos and spend your weekend. I had been thinking of moving to Abj for a couple of months now,but my current job is a Head Office job, ruling out my company posting me to Abuja. In any case, I'm currently working out moving to Abuja, even if it will involve changing job. |

Regulation. That is the solution. All viewing centres should be registered and code of conduct(like no smoking, drinking, betting etc) set. Argument may be allowed, as it adds fun to the show, but limit should be set. |
JJ deserves the mention. He's surely one of the greatest midfielders to have honed their skills in the game of football. |
Hey guys, Just peeping at what's happening here, while I enjoy my leave. |
Assalamu alaikum my brothers & sisters, and Hi to Davidylan & co, First, I apologize for responding late to this thread. I've secluded myself somewhere for about a week now, preparing for one exams, hardly have time for internet. Just read through this thread now. Hmmmnnn, Abuzola, I understand your passion. And that is how a Muslim is expected to be. Insulting Allah and His messengers is something worth being frowned at. I can see how sad you are seeing Davidylan and co raining blasphemies on Allah and His prophet. I also feel sad at times when I read such comments, but only try to restrain myself. The challenge is that, as you requested, the Mod cannot delete a part(the blasphemous part) of a post, he can only delete a whole post. And I will not like to delete a whole post, because I know they will take that up in subsequent arguments that Islam4Muslims Mod is not allowing them to comment here. Well, on your resolve to take it up with Dlan, you are free to, in asmuch as you do not do anything Seun considers 'bannable'. You are free to tackle Davidylan around but I will advise you not to disrespect Jesus as he disrespects Allah & the Prophet. But I think the better for you is to leave him alone. Going forward, I will be send a warning to anybody that uses 'strong' insult on our Allah and His prophets. If after two warnings, he refuses to thread softly in the use of his words, I will delete the whole comment, as I cannot delete just the hard word. This however does not cover using small letter 'a' to start Allah. I don't care about that. I mean use of strong insultive words. But altogether, we are not going to send away Christians here. Troublesome as Funmi DZ is, she adds some degree of politeness to her questions. Some other also come here to ask questions politely and they are attended to. |
Started a 2-week leave on Monday. I'm in my home state(Kwara, but me I no dey arrest goat o ) now, off from the hustlings and bustlings of Lagos, feeling the naturalness of Kwara, 'chopping' black amola wey I no fit get in Lagos, and on Mum's back again.Had a long conference call with my boss and Auditors this morning, all the way from office. |
ohhippie:Bukola and baby politics in the same sentence? Did you know that: -After Obasanjo himself, Bukola was the second strongest supporter(installer) of Yar'adua presidency? -He led the delegation to Katsina to convince Yar'Adua? -He rallied other governors(Ibori,Odili, Attah etc) to leave the scene for Yar'adua? -He is the most powerful Governor today? -He is the most influential PDP politician/power broker today? -Did you follow the last PDP convention? He decided who got what. Told this to step down for that. Kwara govt house in Abuja turned into 'decision' house. -. . .and he's perhaps the most refined PDP politician in Nigeria today. These may not be good politics, but definitely not baby politics. You may other word. |
Seun, This forum is a sleeping Giant that needs to be woken up. I have passionately mentioned this before. If properly promoted, I see this forum becoming e-Nigeria, a reference point in online community, such that in physical discussions by Nigerians, we will begin to hear something like ". . .Ok, let's take the debate to NL and see people's views". Nigeria Village square is now highly visited, quoted and referenced, but the advantage NL has over it is that NL discussions are more diverse, from politics to entertainment to sports to religion to culture etc, but NVS centres basically on Politics and Economy, although it has the advantage of having older, more serious and more mature contributors, but we can also achieve that here. I have personally invited Modibbo, ex FCT minister,my FB friend, to join NL but I've not heard from him, but most likely, he would have at least peeped here and seen what's going on. I will also invite Senator Gbemi Saraki. If these people are too proud to join, they would at least know there is a site called NL, where issues affecting them, and Nigerians in general, are being discussed daily. We can personally invite other people. Much as many Nigerians in Nigeria would have liked to be active here, one obstacle is access to internet. I know many people that are cut out for discussions and debates as are happening here, but limited by access to internet. They pay to browse in cybercafe and of course, you don't expect such a person to be active contributor, because they don't have time and money to be browsing everday. Far before this, I had been promoting NL, directly or indirectly. Hardly will I have any discussion with my family/friends/colleagues without quoting NL. I freely quote NL, sometimes subconsciously, in my daily discussions. Sometimes, in real life, my friends/family hear me say ". . . oh, we discussed this same topic on NL few days ago". At times, when I'm watching TV with my brothers/sisters, and a news is broken, the next thing they hear from me is ". . .oh, this event will be hotly debated on NL before tomorrow". As regards the sticker idea, pls I can't wait to 'paint' my car with NL stickers! |

First day, First Job It was January 4, 2007. Fresh from the uni, no experience, nothing. No idea about how workplace is. Neatly dressed and in suit. The company was Vetiva Capital Mgt Ltd. I resumed with one other new recruit(finished from Unilag, and I Ife). We were taken round the company and introduced to all staff. Our systems had not been set up and the lady we were to take over from was not around(travelled to Abuja) to take us through what the job was about. So we were seated in the meeting room. we were just gisting, touching topics like ICAN, school, masters, jobs, the company etc. Few hours later, the Deputy Head of the dept we were posted to came to meet us in the room and gave us a run-down of the activities of the company, and our unit(Corporate Finance) in particular. When the HOD came back from, I think a meeting outside the office, she also came to see us in the meeting room and greeted us. During lunchtime, the HR lady came to us and showed us the canteen. We had our lunch, free. We resumed at the meeting room and continued with our gisting. When it was 5pm, we asked for permission to go since we were not doing anything and our boss released us. I eventually became so close with the lady I resumed with, that thruoghout my stay in the company, we were always together, our seats just beside each other, same unit, same job description, going for lunch together, closing together, despite the fact that she's a born again Christian and me I be Mallam . We were later jokingly referred to as husband & wife in the company. She had an offer from another company and wanted to leave after first month(not happy with closing late) but she said she did not resign because she didn't want to leave me(we were that close). We left at the same time and she's now with PwC and me in an Oil & Gas company. We still communicate till today.First day, current Job First day? In full suit. Went straight to the HR lady that coordinated my recruitment process. Resumed with two other guys, both coming from Celtel. Like first job,we were put in a meeting room, and we were gisting. HR and compliance officers kept coming and giving us all sorts of forms to fill. We were given handbooks on company's code of ethics etc. We were called one by one and set up in the company's system. Later, we were taken to Safety and Health department where we were lectured on safety tips. Finally we were taken to our departments. One of them happened to be in the same dept with me, and we were taken round the dept for introduction. I had a brief chat with my boss on the job and I was shown my seat and temporary system(another system later procured for me). Since I didn't have anything to do that day, I was just browsing and that was the beginning of what later turned out to be a chronic addiction to NL in the first few weeks of my resuming the job. I was discharged by my boss around 3pm. |
Studied Economics, doing Accounting job.I'm not keen at establishing a long term career in Accounting, it was just the first job that came. Now I'm well grounded in Accounting and that will be an extra value to me when I eventually leave. I want to leave for a job where my knowledge of Economics will be my primary tool (likes thinking and evolving macroeconomic policies, so thinking CBN). |
The match will surely go down memory lane as one of the most referenced match in UCL history. Chelsea exhibited a rare defensive football. Defensive football hardly pays, especially against a team having 3 of the world's best forwards(Messi, Eto'o and Henry) and 2 of the world's best midfielders (Xavi and Iniesta), but they were able to stop them from scoring a single goal from 180 minutes. Let's not forget Eto'o, Henry & Messi have 97 goals to their credit this season. But the lesson here is attacking football pays more than defensive football. Barca went their attacking way in both legs, Chelsea came a little out in second leg, but still extra-loaded their defensive, sacrificing midfield. It nearly worked, if not for luck that deserted them. All the same, Chelsea were not humiliated as bookmakers predicted. Good efforts by the blues. |

A colleague just said Chelsea is going to play 6-4-0 today. Na true! ![]() More seriously, Chelsea did a good job stopping Barca from scoring @ Camp Nou. But will they repeat this today? |
