**the presidency has been greatly diminished by Jonathan's decision to throw decorum to the wind by responding to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in a hot exchange of words in what may now be described as 'Lettergate'. Alhaji Lai Mohammed, APC spokesman

Can we ever take this man and the APC serious ? Can he be a role model to the Youths?

How can one be blowing hot and cold? They are not promoting good ideals and their manifesto just attacking the president whenever he coughs. Are they a good alternative to PDP? Nigerians are not gullible.

PoliticsRe: President Goodluck Jonathan's Reply To Obasanjo's Letter by Jeboy(m):
the apc e-warriors are really trying hard to downplay the intelligence, maturity, coherence and civility of GEJ letter of reply to Obj with lame excuses having read all the posts on this thread.Am trying to be apolitical because its all about Nigeria.

So far some have tried to say GEJ is too soft and he has not been able to defend the allegations. The general opinion of naraland dat he who makes allegation is borne with prove of evidence, dat has simply closed dat door.

Another set of e-rats have come with opinion dat he is too daft to write the letter after attempt by most of them to tag it clueless proved abortive. Maybe they are expecting the president to write his response by himself.Even my MD does not but only assent to PA script. Are u a learner?

Some intelligent ones that want to make use of their conscience are saying he should not have responded to Obj reply because the reply to them truly was a TKO but again this same set of people attacked GEJ recently for not replying an indication dat he has accepted obj letter to be true.

Some others are finding other fault like demdem saying for GEJ not to prosecute Obj he is clueless..., some rather attack the messenger rather than evaluate the content of the message.

Fellow nairaland, you will continue to see new twist of apc e-warriors as a strategy to underplay the impacts of the response this reply carries which I see as TKO to the Obj (who is now APC chief consultant on election rigging engineering having failed in Anambra).

Wether we like it or not, on this one, GEJ has given OBJ what we call DDT for those who are familiar with WWE and d wrestler called undertaker.

I do hope this sound as goodbye to political godfatherism on who determines the president of Nigeria with Nigeria been better for it.Obj just destroyed the respect and recognition GEJ has for him.

@Katsumoto

I also had a chance to catch up with President Jonathan about the work we're doing with our partners on polio, which is showing encouraging progress. Nigeria had 43 confirmed cases of polio in the first 8 months of 2013, a drop of 50 percent from the same period last year. Finishing the job is quite an undertaking, so having the President's support is a big deal. I was pleased we got to spend as much time together as we did.

This is simple comprehension we did in Primary School.

That folks still undermine GEJ capabilities still surprises me,he realized N3Billion USD from Power Privatization through private investors (void of corruption). A feat OBJ+Atiku+El-Rufai(as Head of BPE)
alltogether could not achieve yet Atiku and El-Rufai have the effontery to reply. They should bury their head in shame. GEJ is moving Nigeria forward.

Fellow nairalanders that are progressives not the ones suffering from bad-belle-ism whats your take?
PoliticsMy Critics Implemented A Shoddy Privatisation Programme – Jonathan by Jeboy(op): 6:03pm On Sep 24, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan has berated his opponents, particularly those who handled the past privitisation exercise, saying they are now “opening their mouth wide” to attack his administration.

Jonathan, who said this while addressing Nigerian professionals in New York, United States, on Monday said the privatisation of public utilities by his administration was being done in a transparent manner.

He also said the problem of the Boko Haram insurgency was being exploited to blackmail his administration.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria report, the President said that so far $3bn had been realised without any form of corruption compared to the privatisation that took place in the past.

Jonathan’s critics that played key role in the past privatisation included former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and an ex-minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

Berating his critics, the President said, “In the country’s past privatisation, we know what happened there and yet those who sat over the exercise are the same people who are opening their mouths wide to attack this administration.”

But speaking through his Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai said that the Jonathan administration did not understand transparency.

He challenged the President to be specific in his allegations.

The former minister said, “President Jonathan is dealing in innuendo as is the tradition of his government. He should make specific allegations against specific persons since he claims to know what went on in the previous privatisation regime.

“We are all witnesses to how rules have been bent in the ongoing power privatisation in favour of investors with close ties to government. This government does not understand transparency, and is in no position to practise it.”

Reacting to the allegation of shoddy performance as the chairman of the National Council of Privatisation, Atiku said he was proud of his achievements.

Atiku who spoke through his Media Adviser, Malam Garba Shehu, expressed confidence that his tenure was not in President Jonathan’s frame of reference.

Shehu said, “(He) acquitted himself well when he held sway at the NCP.

“We are very proud of Turaki’s legacies at the NCP and that his vindication is there for all to see in the reports of the separate investigations by both the Senate and the House. We have our records. Let us see his own.”

On security, Jonathan said that in the past, the major security challenge facing the nation was armed robbery. He said that terrorism had emerged as the major challenge in the country now.

Jonathan, however, stressed that the challenge of terrorism was being seriously tackled by the government.

He stated, “I appreciate that we have a serious security challenge with Boko Haram insurgency. This is the area where the government is being blackmailed, but by the grace of God this will soon be a thing of the past.

“Before now it was robbery, until terrorism took us by surprise. Soon it will be a thing of the past.”

On Nigerians in Diaspora, the president acknowledged that they had excelled in their respective professions in the US.

He stressed “Nigerians in Diaspora are an important group particularly those in the US.”

According to him, the administration needs them to work in different areas of the Nigerian economy.

“You do not have to relocate to Nigeria to make the necessary impact, you can come and establish businesses to create jobs for your brothers and sisters at home,” Jonathan said.

The coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in her remarks said that the country’s economy was growing stronger, noting that the Jonathan’s transformation agenda was helping the economy.

PoliticsRe: MESL secures N27.2b loan from GTbank & 2 others to acquire Kainji Power Station. by Jeboy(op):
This milestone achievement in the privatization of power sector by FG must be commended.Power Infrastructure must never be in the hands of government organisation(PHCN). Let's hear your view on what this implies in the power sector.
PoliticsMESL secures N27.2b loan from GTbank & 2 others to acquire Kainji Power Station. by Jeboy(op):
Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, NSE and multilateral financial institution, Africa Finance Corporation, AFC, have provided a US$170 million (N27.2 billion) facility to Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited Consortium, MESL, for the acquisition of Kainji Power station, one of the former assets of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN.

The signing of the syndicated acquisition facility took place at GTBank corporate head office in Lagos over the weekend. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Col. Sani Bello, Chairman, MESL, said that the facility is for
the purpose of part- financing the concession of Jebba Power station and Kainji Hydro Electric Plc.

According to him, “The financing represents an important milestone for the economy in its bids to play a key
role in the power sector reform initiative of the Federal Government. We appreciate the support of GTBank and AFC for providing the required financing to support the company’s vision to manage and restore the nation’s foremost hydro power plants .We must also acknowledged the significant contribution of the Federal Government of Nigeria , the Federal Ministry of Power , the National Council on Privatisation , the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the regulatory agencies , who have together created an enabling environment for this acquisition.”

Commenting on the deal, Chief Executive Officer, GTBank, Mr. Segun Agbaje said that the financing underpins the lenders belief in, and support for, the ambition and the long term growth of the company, and by extension, the growth of the Nigerian Power sector to further catalyse the Nigerian economy. This is our own little way of contributing to the development of the economy. All the parties involved  in this deal are credible in terms of meeting  the various terms ,  so we are cautious in whatever we do. I congratulate Mainstream Energy for taking this bold step.”

In hs own comment, Andrew Alli , President & Chief Executive Officer of the AFC said “ The lender’s investment in Kainji Hydro Electric Plc will contribute towards reducing Nigeria’s chronic power deficit, foster economic growth and create employment.”

The debt financing facility, according to a statement by the AFC, will enable MESL — the preferred bidder of Kainji Power — to acquire the hydro-electric plants of the company with a combined capacity of 1,338 mega watts, representing about 25 per cent total electricity supplied to the national grid.

The power plants are the Kainji Hydroelectric power plant and Jebba Hydroelectric power plant located in the Kainji and Jebba regions of Northern Nigeria, within the confluence of the River Niger.

According to the statement, AFC together with GTBank, is a  mandated co-arranger of the acquisition facility, providing an aggregate commitment of US$68 million  (N10.88 billion) to the MESL consortium.

Finally are we all saying other public officers deserve their pay except lawmakers i.e Senators and Fed House Members?
