URGENT !!! Please anyone using the s view cover for the note 3? I just bought one and I noticed it doesn't magnetically flap onto the screen. when I put the phone down, it's still a bit open. I'm thinking of returning it. But those who have used it, is this how yours behaves? |
I don't think you need to download an app. But this may be limited to Samsung Touchwiz. All you need do is go to Settings>Connections>Data usage. Click on WhatsApp and tick the restrict background data. This way, WhatsApp only works when you open the app. This and can be done for any other app especially those that gulp data alot in the background. |
dragnet: from your pic, it looks like it's just the touch that shattered. replacing would cost 5kThanks but lastly do you know any place I can do it in Onitsha? |
dragnet: the display screen were pictures etc are shown is shattered but the touch is still intact??Yeah. Something like this.
|
dragnet: touch screen or display screen?Don't really know but even though the screen is shattered, the touch is still working. |
Good day. My Lumia 720 fell and the screen broke. I would like to know how much it costs to replace it and if such damage is covered by the warranty. |
Good day. Please I have a broken Lumia 720 screen. How much does a new one cost? |
Stanley08: No and No.ok. Thanks a whole lot. |
Stanley08: Use http://kingoapp.com dude. I voided my warranty by Flashing Russian firmware. And rooted with CF-Root.Thanks. But will this void d warranty or cause data loss? |
@stan how did u root ur note 3 without altering knox and without any data loss? |
Stanley08: Do I want a phone that palm oil or ink or dust or something else can stain? No! Black is for men. Women -> White. Simple! This is the first time I'm coming across this opinion. I've still don't think white phones are feminine. I would agree with pink, but not white. I've always used black phones but recently I started liking white ones. I checked online and as expected, there are varying views about colour but the general consensus seems to be that the faux leather looks more realistic on the black. I should change my phone soon and I'm still on the look-out for any new device. If I decide on this, then I might make the decision when I go to buy it. |
@Stanley08 Nice review. Seems you have the black one. Did you get to see the white version? What's your take on them colour-wise? |
McWelling: Though I luv tecno, samsung is a tech guru,I think the thread was set up cos of the high front camera (highest so far) of 8MP.its a real pacesetter.by d way,s2 isn't as good as this phone,I've seen it very closely,s3 can't b compared cos dis phone has better rear camera and front camera, and s3 has a smaller screen compared 2 this, even s4.Galaxy note 3 has a close or similar screen size to this phone.and above all,f8 is cheaper than them allAnd you really believe it has an 8MP from camera? They didn't put 2GB of RAM, a 1080P screen, at least 16G ROM, and at least a 3000mAh battery. These are all basic specs of phablets released this year. They den jumped to put an 8MP front camera not even a 16 or 20MP back one as some OEMs are doing. I think that's just crap as you can pretty much put anything as a camera and call it anything. I would be highly surprised if the 13MP back camera takes pictures as good as the 6.7MP back camera on lumia 720. |
fiscalcliff: Must one purchase a new phone every year?I agree with you though not fully. Personally, I see no reason why one should change his/her phone every year. Normally I think two years is ok for me. Although Samsung would sell the note 3 to anyone, I think it was geared at new adopters and those who bought the original note and not people with note 2 or S4. I see nothing wrong with what Samsung and Apple are doing. They have built a tradition of refreshing their flagships every year which to me is ideal as technology evolves rapidly. It's up to the buyer to be sensible enough to know when to buy. |
Wilfem: It's already available and I just got one for someone for the amount N115K, hoping to get the gear laterYeah. Just saw it on Jumia. What's your first impression of it? |
naijafan: The video by ARM (I watched the video and I think it gives credence to the fact that the 5420 is inherently capable of running all 8 at once. Though this has not been enabled on the note, at least for now. That said, though it may be a nice thing to have, I think the next big push in processor technology is the use of 64 bit chips. |
@op you lack knowledge and shouldn't be discussing technology at this level All I see is inferiority complex occasioned by poverty. |
@4ller I don't think this has much to do with Nigerian retailers. What you said happens with HTC and mainly Apple phones maybe because they do not have an established presence in Nigeria. The fact is that all around the world early adopters especially for unlocked devices pay more. It's not just a Nigerian thing This is different from when a retailer personally imports a phone before its officially released in Nigeria. That was what happened with the Z10. Those initially high prices were before it was released officially. The official release price was around 98k. The sudden fall in price of the Z10 is not peculiar to Nigeria. I think it's about $300 abroad and its even expected to fall more with the recent write-down. Someone bought the 808 for about 120k a week after it's European release. It's release price here waa about 94k I've noticed Nigerian prices usually match Indian prices and to a less extent American prices. I remember coming across a pre-order article for this phone from India and they were also complaining of its high price. My take on it is that Samsung are now going for more profit as they become a major player just like Apple. That should also be the reason for the yearly increase. this time last year, the price of the S3 had fallen below 90k. But the S4 is still around its release price currently. That said, I think the final retail price should be a bit lower. |
naijafan: What you speak of is known as big.LITTLE heterogeneous multiprocessing, and moshoodn is right. You cannot "update" hardware mechanism in the sense that you speak of. Good news however is Samsung implemented this in the Exynos 5420, which is the same processor on the Note 3 so yes, in this new device, the operating system kernel can schedule tasks to all 8 cores at once. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7313/samsung-announces-biglittle-mp-support-in-exynos-5420. Meizu's update will actually require a new phone, as the Note 3 is the first device shipping with this new SoC.I don't understand why this seems so hard to understand. I have explained to you guys that certain hardware can be updated just as has been done in the past and this being a prime example. Your post contains many errors. Let me clear them up 1. The Exynos 5420 or 5410 cannot currently run all 8 cores ar once on any device even the note 3. 2. Meizu's update to the MX3 will not require a new phone. It will come as a software update to the already announced MX3. 3. The new SoC that utilizes all 8 is not currently available and therefore not on the note or any other phone. As a matter of fact, it has just been announced and is due to be deployed later this year. |
moshoodn: You don't update hardware mechanism....Yes you do. It has been done severally by several OEMs in the past. For example, the processor clock speed can be increased via an update. The explanation I gave above is clear enough. All that needs to be done is to allow both processors to run concurrently. Meizu has already announced that later this year, they would update their phone which has thesame processor as the note 3 to enable it run all 8 at once. I see no reason why Samsung who make the chip themselves cannot add that. |
psalmdave: Thank God,ill see how many people that wants to kill their self for it here will be able to buy it...op that octacore processor is just out of this world, not to mention the 32gig rom,3gig ram,sAMsung is just too crazyMan people will buy whatever phone that suits them provided they can afford it. Also, its not really an octacore processor in one but two different quad core processors (a quadcore Cortex- A15 clocked at 1.9 GHz A and a quadcore Cortex-A7 clocked 1.3 GHz). The reason is to reduce power consumption such that the slower processor is used for less tasking duties. Currently, both cannot run together but there are rumours that a future update might enable this thereby giving it a true octacore processor. |
Well @op the note 2 cannot replace a laptop but then, I get your point. It mainly depends on what you use your laptop for. If it's mainly to browse and watch videos, most of those can be done on the note but with some compromise. However, if you do alot of office work, gaming e.t.c then the note wouldn't suffice. Most people who have tablets would agree that since the advent of tablets, traditional PC use is on the decline as most things previously done on PCs are increasingly performed by tablets. Also, the note is just a mini tablet. Sometime ago, I lost my laptop. I wasn't really in a hurry to replace it as I transferred to my phone and tablet although with some inconvenience. The laptop I currently use is even an older model than the one I bought but I see no reason to change it in a hurry as it plays the games and other stuff I need. Currently I prefer browsing most times on my phone as it's more handy and always with me. So the choice is up to you. Just put your needs into perspective. |
What do you guys think? Personally, I think it's a bit expensive considering Samsung has always launched their flagships especially those of last year between 90 and 100k. It looks as if they are beginning to increase prices as they become a more dominant force. But then, this comes with at least 32GB storage unlike previous models. |

Woke up to see this annoying headline. And I was thinking Nokia was finally on the path to success. Funny enough, I was thinking on getting a lumia but I guess I'm gonna jump ship to Samsung (Note III on my mind). Goodbye Nokia |
@op Have you tried using a different SIM card? |
Go for lumia 520. It's much better and offers better value for money. |
acidosis™:I can't see where I mentioned the device I use. FYI, I don't use C6 and can't still see what a feature of whatsapp has to do with your so called 'latest and tending operating systems'. You may call your words humorous, but I find them disgusting. I completely abhor people who have problems with devices or OSes other people use. Back dating is not synonymous with Nokia. It was used on older symbian devices to circumvent expired certificates which relied on system time. This is forward dating (not back) and it can be used on any device to force this update. Is that so hard for you to understand? Talking about boycotting, the fact that android has alot of pirated apps should tell you that its not limited to any OS. Back or forward dating is just a hack for processes dependent on system time- something most developers have since learnt to stop using. Yes, the process may change but the result doesn't. |
acidosis™:You don't carry android on your head but you take it upon yourself to insult symbian and WP users over non-issues. BTW I'm still wondering who used the phrase heavy android machinery' Seeing you're still finding it difficult to understand, let me bring it down to kindergarten level. Simply put, updates like this do not roll out to everyone at once. This is not dependent on the OS you use. It usually rolls out to devices in batches to avoid overloading the system. One way to circumvent this is by forward dating to trick the system into believing the time for your device has reached or by simply waiting for it to get to your device. If you had been attentive, you would have noticed some people got it yesterday even before the official announcement, some today and maybe some later today or tomorrow. You see the OS didn't play any part here P.S. I would advice you to remain in the romance section where you wouldn't have so much problem understanding basic stuff. |
acidosis™: |
acidosis™:Your ignorance is disgusting. Stick to things you can understand. |
acidosis™:You should keep away from the tech section. You should know that worldwide services like this take time to roll out across devices. Forward dating simply makes it easier. FYI, I saw that tip on an android site and it works on all devices be it BB, iOS, android e.t.c When Google changed the look of the play store recently, how long do you think it took for a full roll out to be completed? You are beginning to sound like you're new to android. What exactly in android gives you all these orgazms? |
