ThaProf: Thanks for your time mate. Was really informative. I've narrowed my options down to Lumia 620 and 520 but I think I'll favour the 520 cos of the 4" screen and scratch resistance. I can always live without the LED flash and the Secondary camera, it's not as if I use them on a normal day. |
ThaProf: Thanks for your reply. I've been using BBs for a while now and I'm really bored of the phone. I want to get a new smartphone and I love the WP8 interface. One thing you should know is that most Android users on this site are ignorant fanboys. Most of them lack a basic understanding of what they claim to know. You shouldn't let their empty rantings fool you. As regards WP8, its a unique, nice and smooth OS. Yes it's lacking in some areas, but it also has some nice positives. Android is more featured but WP8 is slicker (especially on mid-low end phones). Don't get it wrong, WP8 fully covers your basic needs. On the issue of apps and games, when next you hear them ranting, take time to ask them what those apps do. I've done that severally here and EACH TIME they end up empty. There have been alot of 'your favourite apps' threads which I've taken time to scout and I can tell you that over 95% of the apps I see there are well catered for on WP. That does not mean some important apps are not missing, but most of them are not really useful to us in Nigeria e.g. Instagram and Pandora. WP has 130,000 apps and most (if not all) the apps you would need are already there. The issue with most people and WP8 is that I it has been hacked yet but that's not much of an excuse. To the issue of games, yes there is a definite chasm especially as regards some popular titles but a good number have been announced as coming. Moreover, it's not like WP store is devoid of good games. Here is quite an outdated list of xbox live games ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_on_Windows_Phone ). Also a good number of games do not have the xbox status and recent titles are not there. As for the phone in particular. I sincerely don't know which one you should go for. They all have different features and are priced accordingly. But if you're getting a WP, I would advice you get a Nokia device as it has added incentives. |
ThaProf: Bro! I think you, Jedisko and jmaine know fairly good stuff about WP8. I have some few questions for you guys. I hope you don't mind?No problem. You can ask your questions. I would try and answer those I can. |
I won't advise you to go for a new E7 now. The phone is pretty much old and outdated. The phone still has its amazing form-factor. There are more modern and better devices you can get. |
kelmich: Please guys which site can i download good apps and games for my E6? And also which apps would you the phone gurus advice me to downloadNokia E6 is a Symbian^3 phone and should work with most S^3 apps. The main issue is that it has a much higher resolution but I think most apps should be able to work round this. Though quite old, I think this thread would be very useful to you. https://www.nairaland.com/982104/favourite-symbian-3-apps-anna |
jedisco: Please how can I deactivate it and buy a normal data plan.someone should please reply |
Please how can I deactivate it and buy a normal data plan. It's urgent!!! |
I'm more interested in the car. |
aieromon: Sorry, I don't have any information in that regard.k |
aieromon: Delivery time depends on location in Nigeria. It took less than 3days in Lagos for the transaction to be completed. I don't know how they handle deliveries outside Lagos.Ok. Thanks But what if the device is faulty? |
Bawss1: Where is Tex these days?Don't know. But I know he hardly visits this section. Sometimes this place ain't encouraging. |
aieromon: Very reliable.Have you used them before? Also would you have to pay shipping costs? What's their delivery time like? Sorry for the questions but there was an item I wanted to buy before but I don't really trust this online stuff in Nigeria. |
Didn't I say it you don't calculate local phone prices directly from European prices. You can now officially pre-order it for 100k from MTN. You can also be sure that it would be cheaper when it's OFFICIALLY released to the Nigerian market. Be rest assured that most flagship phones would come in at 95k (give or take) |
Francheezy: did he actually say lumia 900 is a feature f0ne...men am disaPPointed.....if it waz bb, n0 pr0blem.I still remember that thread though I don't wanna dig it up. It started as a very honest question by someone asking about the phone (just like this one). Of course they never disappoint and called it all kind of names. From toy to dumb phone to feature phone and so on. The real argument started on page 2 and lasted till about page 7 or so. That was when tex was still active here. Jmaine was also involved. |
@4ller You need to chill cos you don't need to trade insults before you pass your point across. You keep saying you're not a fanboy but everything you do shows you as one. Take WP for example- from Lumia 900 (which you called a feature phone) to 920 which you spent almost 6 pages trying to show it was a failure. Go to symbian, asha and BB you have thesame track record. You hate everything non-android. That's a fact. I really don't get how used phones won't let this sell. You really overrate that market. If that was true, then there won't be mega shops all over the country that sell new phones. Nigeria does not revolve around you. There are many people who don't buy used phones. BB has said most of their phones sold here are in the $400 range. Those are not used. I can't count upto 5 people I know who use 2nd hand phones. Nokia 701 was given a retail price of €290 and launched at 50k here. BB10 has not launched officially in Nigeria so any price you're seeing are like those of 250k we saw for iPhone 5 at launch. So far I can only see a retail price of $150 which shouldn't exceed 30k. Do those your refurbished phones stop your new androids from selling? Like I said Nigeria is bigger than you and your friends and over 95% of Nigerians I know use new phones. Your 80% figure is obviously false. For all the talk about techno, I still see more ashas around. Nairaland hardly mirrors the situation of things in Nigeria. Finally, I have no problem with android. I have problem with people who think everybody must use thesame phone they use. Have you ever seen me on any android or BB thread trolling? Just show me a major non-android thread over the last 3 months that you and your likes have not trolled on. That was what made me take a break from NL sometime ago cos it was pathetic. You've still not answered what your first post has to do with this thread. Not everybody will use android. Get that into your head. |
Leopantro: now,I refuse to respond to the statements you made in regards to what I said. I leave that to @4ller.@Leopantro I can see jmaine is already handling you accordingly but I can't help but take some of the spoils. You see this your post above kills every credibility you have or claim to have. I could go on and punch holes in every sentence. You really are a learner. |
tonardo: Give us lumia 920 or820 not this jurk haiwai..You're asking for 920 which is over 100k, but you're using a phone with a broken screen you got for 35k. Why didn't you go for a new S3 or Note II |
A-ZeD:At last an intelligent response from someone with a truly open mind. 1 like for you man. @4ller and co, this is the type of person you guys should emulate. Someone with a truly open mind. |
claycares: Nice one guys. I can't even think of having a Windows phone no matter the price because I want to be free. You talk about freedom but you're quick to write off an OS you've never used. You're in a cage man. |
blackchild09: windows mobile knw they are losing it that's why they come up with cheap mid range smartphone @4ller if it's more than 30k for the phone I agree with you no body will buy it, so you can't even side load apps and I was reading some where earlier a dude was complaining about there App store that most apps will say not available in this region Even there official twitter appAnother religious follower here. Your problem is that you don't want to pay for apps and you're just looking for a way to forward piracy. While I'll admit that buying apps is very hard in Nigeria leading many of us to piracy (including me), you should maintain some morality by not boasting about it cos not everyone wants to pirate stuff. |
Leopantro: @ 4llerbuntu, good point there. you just can't best the uniqueness of Android. I have two friends that got the Nokia windows phone and they are seriously regretting it. the low cost windows phone will have sub par functionality and will still require zune ( in this day and age.? ). my first Android phone was 20K and I was performing wonderful and amazing things with it. I have gone through their app store; is very depressing. considering you can't side load apps on a widows phone, why waste time and money?Another blind follower of your master fanboy. I don't know where you get your stuff from but low cost windows phones are much smother than their android counterparts. That's an undisputable fact. In as much as I want options, but the iPhone still does everything through iTunes and iOS is by far the most profitable phone OS currently. I've been to the WP app store and its anything but depressing. It may not be as large as android, but its got lots of good apps. I doubt that's there is any basic app you would need as a Nigerian that's not already there. |
4llerbuntu: forget story. this will not sell Jack in Nigeria. How pathetic! You know, as a fanboy you never disappoint and like I keep saying, a fanboy will always be a fanboy. Tell me what this thread has to do with android and why you and your folks have decided to pollute every thread on this section? I don't know how you got the 30-40k price, but you know you're wrong. I remember I've handled this issue of phone pricing with you before. Its funny how a leading tech company wants to bring specialised products with local content to Africa and all you can do is criticise. Seriously, I don't know where you get this zeal from but like I've asked you before, let me ask you again: does google buy phones for you that you can't see any thing good in a non-android product? Again this is really pathetic. |
Also here is another one I saw quite recently. As the name implies, it's a list of top 10 mods for S^3. Though I already had most of the ones I need, it's still good having a brief look at the important ones. http://symbian-developers.net/top-10-mods-available-for-symbian-devices/ |
I was cleaning up my bookmarks when I discovered this. I thought I had shared it before but evidently I hadn't. So let me put it here before I delete it. Its just a curated symbian app store from AAS. I have to point out that it does not contain some recent apps- especially those that help tweak up the UI. http://stevelitchfield.com/appstore.htm |
luluosas: Here is the explanation on this thread https://www.nairaland.com/1140414/glo-blackberry-plans-phones-otherThanks |
ndizzle: Yes! u can.can you explain how to do that. I heard somewhere that its not stable and disconnects easily or does not connect at all. |
grandstar: It was said as much on CNN yesterday. There are more android users than iphone users and people want to connect. All more services are made for android that for iphone. The fact that android has more market share than iOS doesn't make iOS a failure. Though I agree that apple is facing really stiff competition and have to do something drastic to guarantee their future, but that does not change the fact that they are by far the most profitable tech company in the world. One thing you should understand is that Apple is a premium brand and don't need very large market share to be profitable. The only services that are made first for android are usually Google's services. All other services I've come across are first brought to iOS before android or at most done together. |
okpara ugo: Oga, do you call Asha a smartphoneNokia classifies the full asha touch as smartphones. Although I was skeptical at first, I see no reason why they shouldn't be classified as such. If you have issues with that, you can start by telling us what smartphones are and why ashas are not. |
Sisi_Kill: In a world where a whole Iphone is losing the Smartphone war. . .some people are still holding on to the thought that BB will win that war.iPhone loosing smartphone war?? Please enlighten me on that. |
Akainzo: Which one of them do you have issues with? What do you say is the right figure for that one you have issues with?Though I haven't checked it up, I think the UK, US, and to a certain extent the EU numbers don't look like figures from 12 months ago. |
Akainzo: Over 65% of Nigerian smartphone users. You might want to review your figures cos I don't think they are current. |
mrkels: More Like 93% **Smartphone** Users in nigeria ...Not really. The last figure I saw (which was late last year) says just over 50%. But that figure is growing very fast. Don't forget that there are still quite a number of old symbian users and also the asha touch is becoming quite popular. (but i don't think those were included in last years figure) |
