aieromon: Tell Nokia to get their house in order and get a device that can compete favourably with the S3,HoX and the yet-to-be released Iphone 5.
Well.... Nokia doesn't pay me. I just need a good device which is not overpriced or just hype like the iPhone

Its a pity Nokia is reducing support for symbian cos I think with the Belle (and fp1), they finally caught up with the opposition in terms of UI. Also they've got most useful apps but with reduced game support. But they decided to kill it together with Meego and Meltimi.

For them, everything now depends on WP8. From reviews so far, it seems like a good one together with some Nokia tweaks here and there. App developers are also interested and Microsoft is willing to even pay them, cos this is the best chance they've got at penetrating the mobile market.

For me, I'll wait till September to see which direction Nokia is heading and if any WP8 devices would be announced.

I'm just hope they release a dual core, 1GB RAM, 4.3 inch display with pureview. Even if I get it on symbian, I will get it but its more likely on WP

I think you have to flash it in dead usb mode. Check previous pages, I think temmy put up a tutorial for N8. Its basically thesame thing, its just that you would now use your firmware code where needed.

Its time to try out my first android phone.

So long.
Hmm.... goodbye. Nokia has lost alot of users recently and at a point I almost moved.
I will be looking at how Nokia fares with their WP 8 devices for now.
But may I ask which android device you would be starting with?

Mafia4life: Apart from that, programmers said writing app for symbian is too difficult. The compiler for .sis seems like a low level language.
I think that is just a lame excuse from them.

The main problem was that it took too long for Nokia to upgrade symbian. Also the older symbian versions didn't really have worthwhile updates not until symbian^3 which provided upward OS upgrades.

If symbian was still selling well, then developers will still be developing.

Yea. Most of the symbian devices I see are the older versions. I now see the reason why people post some ridiculous stuff on the symbian vs android thread. Nokia should have released it much earlier.

Does it mean that there are only 4 symbian^3 users or that the others don't use apps?
I think this thread should to the front page just like that of BB and android. But I thought symbian wz still quite popular in Nigeria

Nice write up. Actually, I used old symbian ( E72, C6-00 and E5). I just wish symbian will be continued as long as we live.
How come nokia browser now implement Bittorrent protocol in its browser? Ar u really sure of this?
I know that "belle" of an OS is gonna be owesome, is just that my primary reason of getting an andriod device is the video calling. I wanna see my sister's kids oversea. She uses blackberry and u know BB is not in good terms with video calling. Thats why I used andriod since it can call PC. Anyway, I hope to grab Lumia. I have been a die hard fan of Nokia so I still remain their fan.
Good point. Since video calling is top on your list, then no probs. But just know that symbian is not still stuck in those old S60V5 days. Its a pity Nokia is not serious with it and are focused more on windows.

I'm also looking out for what the new windows 8 devices will look like but the 808 really appeals to me.
PhonesRe: Android Vs Symbian Phones, Which Is Better? by jedisco(m): 10:47pm On Jul 12, 2012
Mafia4life: @jedisco.
Someone said i should mention at least one function of andriod fone that a symbian device cannot do. So i gave him dat. The major reason i use it is because of video calling and movie playing and camera app features. I still love symbian for it served me so well but andriod try pass for services. Multi tasking is a problem for andriod.
Online Video calling- I have said it over and over again that currently symbian belle doesn't support it but its clearly being worked on. If its something you use, then I've got no probs with that.

Personally, its not a feature I've ever wanted to use. Its also not a feature used by 99.9% of android users in Nigeria. If you've been visiting the phone section frequently, you would have noticed that android users are always complaining of mobile data being used up when they do almost nothing and all the weird and worrisome advice fellow android users give them in return. They definitely do not sound like people using it for video calls.
With current data rates of 1,300 for 250MB, online video calls is the last thing on my mind.

Camera app feature- I'm definitely sure its been a while since you used a good symbian device. There are multiple apps for every camera feature u need e.g panaroma, face warp e.t.c. So maybe u should be more specific on what you need.

Movie playing- For the record, symbian plays .mkv files.
But let me ask you, how many sites do you know where I can download .mkv movies in phone friendly sizes?
All the popular mobile movie download sites I know offer them in .avi or .mp4 format. The few .mkv files are usually to large and are mainly for large screens.

If you really watch movies on your phone, you wouldn't be saying this

@mafia4life

I don't fully understand your post but if you were listing those as negatives for symbian, then you need to re-check them cos most of them are obviously false.

ahmmyreal: ubuntu OS
The thing is that android is open source so it gives people the chance to try alot of nonsense on the phones. This is a good example of that.

Motorolla tried it before and it was a total flop and now its this. You would need a mouse, keyboard and monitor to run it. The worst is that its so laggy on the dual and quad cores. I think you should get more info on stuff before posting.

If you were talking of a tablet, its still rubbish cos the tablet would not run it unless connected to other stuff.
If you look at Windows 8 which promises to run thesame OS on PCs and tablets and a separate one on phones, u see a workable idea.
I even thought u were referring to a dual boot of it running on the phone not this.

Any attempt to run thesame OS for a mobile and PC is not sensible mainly cos of screen sizes. The best u can get is a phone OS that can sync seamlessly with that on a PC enabling you to switch conveniently between the two and with app versions for both with almost equal functionalities.

Why do you think apple didn't run the MAC OS on their phones or why android on PCs are a total flop? Its simply cos the two of them are meant for different devices.

So the idea of running ubuntu on android as it is currently is plain senseless.

blink182: Is there a place to get tintin HD
http://www.nokiavnn.com/2012/01/adventures-of-tintin-hd-1001-symbian3_09.html?m=1

But I usually prefer downloading from another site. Cos dey have upto 24hrs resumable downloads which is much faster with no speed limit (esp if you've got 3G) even on mobiles.
Its a russian site, so you've got to just guess the clicks and master them over time

Their symbian^3 game directory: http://rugame.mobi/game/43211/

Adventures of tintin: http://rugame.mobi/game/57434/ The .ZIP link is for the game while the (NAROD) link is the cache. After clicking the (NAROD) link, click the white link at the bottom, input the numbers and download (if you're using a PC uncheck the box so u don't have to download their toolbar)

Hope u know it works only on 700, 701 and 603.

Where do i start from o? Hmmm...ok:

Hear and write- what u say is wat it writes.

Pushups- rily fun app. Just put it under ur chest while doing pushups and it will record the number of pushups u have done. It uses d proximity sensor.

Today- one of my best apps. It tells u events that occurred in the past on the present day u are, birthdays and deaths of famous people on the present day u are, etc.

Widgeleon- write ur name on the home screen with efizzy.

CalQtlator- my best calculator app. Built with Qt, it can act as a (temp, length, area, etc) converter, scientific calculator and number base converter. All u need is just a swipe to change the modes.

Mobile microphone- very nice app. Connect ur phone to a speaker and use ur phone as microphone.

Backwords- record sounds and play it backwords. Quite fun!

Tweetian- the best twitter app yet.

Talking cat
These ones took me by surprise. I Didn't think there were that much apps that would be this new to me. Although I've come across some of them before e.g tweetian and talking cat but didn't install cos I thought they were just copies.
I wasn't able to find some like today and mobile microphone.

Would love to see your favourite themes

blink182: Please can I view sites with live streaming data like www.betonmarket.com, livescore.com, etc. I mean with the data streaming like on pc.

Also will the 16gb +8gb memory card be enough for all these softwares, the hd games-about 30 @ N8 fan club and every other thing I need to install?

My pictures and videos will be in my  as I download except for the few I snap with the N8.
I think so. I checked the betonmarket site and wz able to stream a video there within the browser. But I'm not using 3G so it wasn't that smooth with gprs. If it wz some other sites like youtube or cnn it wld have streamed it through the video player.

It should be enough. I've got 8 + 32gb and usually install apps and games on the internal memory (i.e Esmiley while F: is for my media, films, pics e.t.c. Also, I've got more apps than what I posted here. Although E: is already filled up and about 2 games are now on my memory card which. If you're using n8 then you may not install tintin which will give you 1gb free space.
I think there are more than 30HD games working on belle. Check nokiavnn.com, they've got a list of all HD games working on belle.

Luluvich: hold up...so are you saying blackberry is better because it has more users? apart from the bbm, I don't see anything tangible in it. as for symbian, it was king....but the software has become a dinosaur. as good as symbian is, its living on borrowed time. besides, the issue of apps is more of a personal thingy. if you're looking for specific apps like ubersocial, LiveProfile or aldiko, symbian will be found wanting. thats why for my personal fun, I use android while I use a symbian device, Nokia E6 for business.
I have not said which OS is better. I was just trying to show him that saying that android is better because it has more users is baseless.

The issue of apps on android is not just personal- its their biggest selling point.

I really don't know what you mean by specific apps. Is it apps bearing thesame name or what? Cos everything you listed have their options on symbian. If you're looking for same names, then there are alot of apps on symbian e.g Microsoft apps suite that are only on symbian. This does not mean that android doesn't have variants.

Now to the apps you listed
Adilko- there are plenty eBook readers for S^3 e.g eBook reader and ionic with varying functionalities.
LiveProfile- I think it has a beta version. Moreover, there are others which are better, more widely used and compatible e.g 2go, whatsapp, nimbuzz, fb chat e.t.c. Sincerely speaking, I don't know anyone using liveProfile. The 4 I listed are more than enough for my instant messaging.
Uber Social- got loads of better twitter clients. Not dat I use twitter that often.

But does it mean that after 6 pages you people cannot come up with tangible reasons especially out of your 400,000 apps.
If I was to give reasons why a symbian is better than java, I would be done in at most 2 posts. Its really disturbing cos apart from more games and maybe video chat (which I've never wanted to use and which is currently in development) there is nothing else.
If android was truly better, giving reasons would be easy
