The thread is up. If you want to discuss your apps |
Although I love using useful apps, I would try to limit myself to those I use frequently. May add more later which I don't use that much but consider important. 1. Nokia maps- undoubtedly the best map for mobiles. Love the voice guidance and the way it shows ur pics on the location where they were taken. 2. Nokia internet radio- when I get bored of my songs. Also has quite a number of local stations 3. Play via radio- broadcast songs from my mobile to a radio 4. Nokia mail client- up to 6 mail addresses. Can set the retrieval frequency. Also love the large scrollable widget 5. Microsoft apps- everything office from OneNote, Lync 2010, Document Connection and PowerPoint Broadcast, Word Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile and Excel Mobile. 6. Stock browser, opera mobile and mini 7. Nokia social (also love the large scrollable widget and contact integration), gravity, 2go, whatsapp, nimbuzz 8. Shazam- tags and searches songs. 9. You tube HD- watch and download Youtube vids in different formats incl MP3 10. Nokia drop- push stuff from PC to phone 11. SPB TV- watch live TV stations. Esp when I have free data or wifi 12. Music kloud- search and download songs 13. Nokia sleeping screen- displays images on the sleeping screen which can be customized. Don't know how Nokia made it to consume very little power. 14. Mee Bible- provides various versions for free. Also written in Qt format 15. eBookReader- my best eBook reader. Also in Qt 16. CNN app and rss feeds with scrollable widgets 17. Baby Monitor- quite useful when I travel and may have to stay with a baby. Calls a preset number when a preset sound level is reached. 18. Nokia car mode- makes using your phone while driving very easy. 19. Thumbnail folders- iOS like folder appearance 20. NetQin antivirus 21. Call guard- prevents me from accidentally ending a call 22. Barbell gym tracker- very useful app for workouts *Advanced device locks- locks apps *Merrim Webster dictionary - love the voice dict *power saving vibration- allows vibration in power saving mode *swipe keyboard- accepts swipe gestures and is pretty fast. *quick cam- launches cam from lock screen *Thumbnail folders- gives me an iOS like folder apparance *Extended menu grid- a tweak which changes the menu arrangement to 4*5 apps *TTPOD- music player with lyrics *joikuspot- wifi tether to several devices *foot zoomer- change fonts * music key- control the music player with locked screen *Audiowave- change songs with just a wave over the proximity sensor *call recorder and mp3 cut. *tie a tie *ximad quote apps |
Before I start, I would first list some apps. Perhaps not the everyday app but they are usually the first I install after any format. They really improve the ease of use. 1. Quick launch and quick apps panel- provide a drop down of 5 preset apps on each side of the screen by simply passing my hand over the proximity sensor. 2. Go to menu- shows the task switcher when I swipe from left to centre of the screen and shows the home screen when its from left to right 3. Dzlock- locking and unlocking the phone from any app by simply sliding at the base of the screen or double tapping the proximity sensor 4. Belle extra buttons- adds 2 extra buttons between the 3 traditional ones at the base of the screen. They can be set to a range of apps e.g restart, close open apps, e.t.c including a pop up window. 5. Scroll patch- provides continuous scrolling at the starting speed. Elegant esp when viewing the gallery or in the menu With the 5 above, you can get to almost any part of your phone or open any app with at most 2 swipes |
This is a thread for symbian^3 apps (Anna, belle and belle fp1) apps you use quite often and consider useful- Not necessarily your favourites. PLEASE THIS IS FOR SYMBIAN^3 USERS ONLY. NOT A PLACE TO START ANOTHER ARGUMENT. THERE ARE ALREADY COUNTLESS THREADS FOR THAT. |
ahmmyreal: lol.. symbian better than android? this question shouldn't be asked. the difference is clear! I guess you haven't used a good android phone before comparing symbian to android. symbian is dead. you should be com pairing iOS to Android and not symbian. on Android u can install computer OS, can u do that on symbian? what will u be doing with a 32mp camera phone? when it is not a digital camera. seriously you need to do some digging before posting. Is it that you people don't read or what? I did not say which one is better. If you think android is better then GIVE REASONS rather than repeating what several people have repeated. Coming to the Computer OS, I don't understand it. Can you tell me the Computer OS you install on android? |
Ikenna351: Am now a proud owner of brand new Symbian running Nokia 808 PureView. I bought it this evening here in Abuja, at Wuse II.Man stop tempting me o I'm will try and wait till Nokia world in September to see which direction symbian is going and the new devices they would release but that phone is something else BTW how much is it? I've been trying to ascertain the price locally |
Ogidi-Olu:Yes will specify. Guess I will open it this night |
brianromel: Ten men from Mushin trying to tell a thousand men that moved from mushin to park view that mushin is better than park view....... How do you think it will go.Well I get it. To you android is better because you feel its better. But its worrisome that you can't name those apps. Like I said I don't have an android phone but if for once I wanted to go with this 400,000 apps which is the highest selling point of android (as flash has stopped supporting android starting from jelly bean), does it mean that you can't mention tangible apps that would make me want to change to android? If you've been into apps for long, you would have noticed that once you get to a particular number 99% of what is left are not new and just pirated or substandard copies or simply bloatware. I think symbian has reached that point. The only difference is in maybe games but like I pointed out before, there are quite alot available for symbian. Well the devices you mentioned are the major reason why symbian is where it is today. It took too long for Nokia to really upgrade symbian and so the opposition stole in. But as of today, I feel the difference is not much with the current belle fp1. Especially when you consider that the android devices that give you a good experience are the expensive ones. I would also not take you telling me that android is better cos they have more users. In most developing countries, BB is still leading the market. In Nigeria, its BB, symbian then others. But if android was really superior in all aspects as you claim, you shouldn't have a problem giving me examples |
fweshboi: i want to get a new phone,my nokia e6,am nt happi wit it,becos the battery does not give me joy.I think you should state the price range of the phone you expect to buy, what you expect to get from the phone (in order of preference) and if you have any preference. Then I would know what to tell you |
Mafia4life: Bros nor talk am ooo. There are MANY, I mean PLENTY things andriod can do that my beloved symbian cannot do.I'm quite curious cos I haven't owned an android device before although I have used it. Perhaps you should outline those many or rather plenty things you are referring to. Maybe about 10 out of the lot to start with |
Hey folks! Wz thinking of opening a thread for favourite symbian^3 apps. Perhaps we could just list favourite apps (and maybe games and themes). What do you guys think? Or should we do it here |
naptu2: I can't get a pic of Shagari (or Shonekan), but you saw Dr Omoigui's quote, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Olusegun Obasanjo (I can also get you James Robertson) = there's a precedent. Are you still replying him? Its very clear that he has nothing else to say which is typical of blind critics. |
The girl is really HOOTTTT! Who tok say to get money no make sense? |
dragnet: it was d spambot that banned you''I was really surprised. Well thanks for the clarification |
One of the true revolutionary devices I've seen in a long time. Came out with specs no one could have imagined. I have read reviews about it and one striking feature is that every site (even symbian hating ones) say the camera cannot be compared with that on any other phone. Infact gsmarena went on to compare it with DLSRs and gave a pretty nice review on it Even if its the last symbian device (which I really doubt), I think it would be a wonderful farewell to a legendary OS- the OS that introduced smartphones to most of us. Would have loved to get one especially since the new windows 8 cannot accommodate above 20MP. But it does not have a higher processing power than my 701 although it has a screen. Would have loved it to have a higher screen resolution and maybe 4.2 inches. Well I guess I would have to wait for the FP2 update to Belle and Nokia show coming up in September to know which direction Symbian is heading or whether I will switch to windows. But all in all, this is a device worth having. It gives us a break from the mad RAM, pixel increase and dual core chase that seems to be the only thing changing in new phones. It brings true innovation |
Donmeca: Don't mind d "progressives" from Nigeria lecturing Americans on d beauty of democracy. Last year d youths thru OUR TIME wanted to extract commitments from GEJ who was 70% sure of winning d electio den. D same people condemned that move...I also did! But it baffles me that d same people are praising d use Banky, a musician in d same mould of D'Banj. To interview a governor who is bn tipped for presidency in d next election. Funny world!!!It just reminds me of the incident sometime ago when it was rumoured that PDP wanted to invest in the Oil and Gas industry to have an independent source of funds and not rely on politicians (BTW I'm indifferent to this move). It baffled me that when I saw several people criticizing them, cos I know those same people would have heaped praises on Fashola and Tinibu if it was ACN that came up with that idea under the disguise of not putting pressure on politicians to use personal or state funds to run the party. |
Dis Guy: sorry do i know you? where did i call myself the 'opposition' you're a scum! You don't need to use insults to cover your intellectual paucity. All you said does not cover up the fact that this is a publicity stunt by the Governor just like in GEJs case. What I find amusing is the ease with which you defended this. Like I said, to prove you are not a hypocrite why not answer the simple question. What would have been your reaction if GEJ was the one being interviewed? |
jason123: This was organised by a US based development institution while GEJ's was done for popularity...learn d differenceSo according to you its ok cos it was organised by a US based organisation. I hope you know that GEJ was trying to reach a certain group of people during the elections. Like I asked the guy above, let me also ask you what would have been your response if this documentary was done on GEJ. This is the same reason why I laugh when you people try to paint ACN as saints and PDP as demons. You all are a bunch of hypocrites who would do worse if they got the position |
Dis Guy: this isnt an advert for election this is a DOCUMENTARY ABOUT DEMOCRACYYou are really pounding pathetic and biased. Just listen to yourself. Well... Using your mindset, I could say GEJ was trying to reach a certain class of people. Or rather what would have been your response if this documentary was done on GEJ. And you call yourselves 'the opposition' |
@op Pls when will Nokia 808 pureview be available in Nigeria and at what price is it going to sold |
@bnnsz384: This was my previous post I wanted you to see jedisco: @topic Symbian has already moved from Belle to Belle Feature Pack 1 and is available for 603, 700 and 701 as a software update. The mighty 808 Pureview will come with Belle FP1 pre- loaded. That is why we felt a need for updating this popular comparison and bringing a fresh article comparing the latest of two operating systems. So the areas, where Symbian now has an upper hand as compared to Android, Better Widgets: The widget quality on Belle devices has got great boost with Belle FP1 adding as many as 20 new widgets. Also quality wise widgets on Symbian devices have more to offer. For example Symbian widgets take less space on the homescreen and important widgets like Social and E-mail are scrollable. So yu can just check the current mails or feeds without even opening the application. While Android widgets are not scrollable and you have to open the application to check more items. Dolby digital Plus: This is great feature for any operating system and great news for Symbian device owners with Belle FP1 compatible devices. Yes Belle FP1 brings Dolby digital plus to 603,700, 701 and 808 pureview. So you basically can enjoy Dolby surround sound with any headphones as the Dolby digital plus ability is inbuilt into the Symbian devices. Major advantage, if you compare even a low range 603 to even a high range Android like SGS II. Check the video for more about Belle Feature Pack 1, RAM requirements: This is really a major strength of Symbian Belle. Check the above screenshot of N8 and SGSII. The N8 even with all the apps like Mail, Social (Facebook & Twitter),Weather widget has got as much as 104 MB free RAM out of total 250 MB (RAM) . Compare that to Android devices having 500 MB RAM. I have seen as less |
bnnsz384: man u are so lost. i dont read oder peoples post coz every one speak from a different veiw. i speak from experiece. i have gs2 my friend got C7. yes i was suprised wen i saw it first my pop man got d fone. my frend dint lyk samsung but wanted nokia android so i recomended c7. he got d phone and we compared c7 waz out class in terms of operation. if needed complicated apps to do tinz galxy doz witout abrik. and also hes having battery issue ly all powerfull phones dose.1. Instead of building stories in the sky why not list the things the S2 could do that the C7 couldn't which were as a result of OS limitations. And also try and attach the price of the two phones when you reply. 2. The good battery life applies to all symbian and Nokia products. I have a 1.3GHz device with full capacitive screen and gorilla glass and my phone lasts me a full day of good usage. Mind u it uses a 1,300mAh battery. Now give me any android device with a 1,300 mAh battery that lasts upto 6 hours. 3. You don't need to lie to gain points. Apple filed a suit to ban the sale of nexus in the U.S because some of their patents were stolen and used on nexus. They have also included S3 in the suit. Now that does not sound good for your android. You definitely are a novice, CIA would have also banned all PCs cos there is nothing that phone does that a PC wouldn't do. Next time get your facts right, or better still don't lie. 4. Like I said you've just been jumping around d bush. Give reasons why you think android is better. |
bnnsz384: i dont talk of app bodi. i say features. apps are just fancy. pure yes nokia uses camera to blak mail u to buy der product. pure veiw is i tink 38mp or so and is windows. belive me 10mp on a phone is very good. wat will u do wit 38mp, unless u want to setup a photo studio wit ur phone. belive me the nokia 12 or 38mp is just to cover the fact dat de os is inferior and still sell their phone in a luxyrious price lyk der competitors.1. 808 pureview runs belle fp1 not windows. 8MP is good for you cos you have not seen better. Also it seems as if you don't get d idea of 808s camera. It has one of the largest sensors on a mobile with a dedicated GPU for the camera and xenon flash. But thats not all. It has very good digital zoom so u can take high quality close pictures from afar. Also the camera can be used at 5MP and 8MP resolution. Even at 8MP, the pictures from your galaxies (also with 8MP) come no where near. 2. Nokia has a notebook not a modern tablet. So what OS do you expect it to run? Notebooks are mini PCs. The only tablet like device was way back in 2007 and it runs Maemo 3. Switching games and apps and eBook readers is what I do everyday on a belle device. The only difference is that my battery lasts a day for me with good usage But on an android device, it would last 3 hours so I would play a game, charge, use an app, charge and so on which obviously does not seem wonderful. 4. If you want to do a comparison, why not compare 701 which is about 50k and galaxy S which is also 50k. You should know which device is better 5. I noticed you're trying to run away from the crux of the matter which is symbian vs android on phones. If you've got nothing else to say, you should keep quiet |
bnnsz384: sorry for u vlingo is also in ios and android and windows belle is just fany app but android is apps and features. were are our belle tablets computers gagdets and hadwares at . non becoz dey cant. android haz hardware pads keyboards external cams etc but belle my frend only sows u som fancy andriod copied operations forgetforgetting the main features. belle can handle pes well but wont handle fifa. if it does it cant use external controls to play. have u seen sony tablets, its android. belle is just for small devices and plays only small games like pes12. the smallest hd game in my phone 160mb. my fifa is 1.6gb nova3 is 2gb. please. guys. do your homework before you make commentsIts obvious you're loosing points and you're trying to elaborate on this. Its well known that android has more HD games than symbian. But like I said in previous posts, there are over 50HD games available for symbian and I haven't finished playing even half. So before I'm done, more would have been released. Well tintin is 1GB and it runs fine on belle. There are also several large HD games available. Like I said in the post above this, give points and don't talk trash. I don't know whether we need to spell it out that this is about the OS on phones. Afterall even blackberry has tablets. Or its like me saying that windows 8 tablets are better than android tablets cos its almost thesame OS on a PC and I haven't seen android PC's yet. If Nokia were into tablets before now, they would have produced a symbian one. It looks like you're running out of stuff to talk on. I posted a link and quote some on page 3 comparing belle FP1 and ICS for which I asked for reviews and noticed you all dodged it. Well for starters you could begin with that post |
double post |
bnnsz384: u can't be serious. belle and android is lyke child immitating d father. belle cant stand with android. dey only imitate some operations lyke game. but a real droid user will tell you why. I use galaxy s 2. give d phone hand it will cook for u. it is not just the applications. the phon is just intelligent. ill give u an example. my cameral can be used as scanner.( camscaner feature called acr) can be used to measure distance, can use face dectect to unlock phone. infact bele is just fancy and junky that y nokia will put camera of 12mp wit poor focus and resolution why galaxy 5mp looks lyk 20mp bcoz hd. oboy do ur homework properly before u concludedThe problem with most of you android fanboys is that when you've got nothing else to say, you start saying things like android is better cos symbian sucks, android is better cos its a father to symbian e.t.c which to me are all pointless. From your post, I was only able to get two things: 1. For your intelligent phone with the apps you mentioned. Well.... lets see face recognition lock- face lock on symbian cam scanner- countless number available on symbian distance stuff- I've installed an app that does that before from Ovi store. Now I've decided to stop installing useless things like the above on my phone. Its funny how u people scream 450,000 apps and yet you find it very difficult to name just useful apps you have thats not available on symbian. Mind you I've been asking this question for so long. 2. Its absolutely senseless to compare the camera of galaxy s2 to n8. Next time you're confused try and use Google. There are multiple reviews online comparing the camera of n8 with that of iPhones, HTCs and galaxies and N8 always comes out top. In my opinion, thats about the only superb feature left on that phone. Producing awesome cameras on phones is an area where Nokia have always excelled. Next time tell me S2 has a better camera than 808 pureview. |
mxxpunkxx!:I dont use a BB and I dont like the phone but we should be matured enough to allow those that use it discuss their favourite apps without interference. If you want to compare the iPhone to the BB app wise, then you should open a thread for that rather than trying to derail this. |
I can't remember where I read this. But I know its from a Nokia application Or site, but I must confess, I was shocked when I first read it. Wifi last longer than 2G/EDGE/GPRS when browsing with it. So if u hv wifi available, turn off your mobile data and use it |
dayokanu: I think the smartest ppl in life are those who grab concept really quick and make decisions while standing, but reading everyone can read jare and if you read, read cram, cram, read cram read enough it would stick someway somehow even if you are a dullard.e don do naw. You've sworn never to read the book but you think its all about cramming. Abi u never see books of the more you read the less you recollect? For a doctor to see several patients a day and manage them ain't so easy. He has to put together stuff he learnt from 2nd yr to final yr without confusing them. That demands being smart. Abi you don see doc dey check diagnosis for book? Or in the oral exams where the examiner can ask you anything (even stuff you did years back). If you are not smart na you go suffer pass. Or do you think they enjoy reading those big texts? Although I agree with you that there are some stuff you have to cram but same applies to mathematics and its numerous formulae. All though my sec school and till I stopped taking mathematics in the uni, my highest grades were always in maths and sometimes physics but biology and human sciences really interested me. |
Let me add some Nobody knows tomorrow. Things go better (na poor man prayer) |
aieromon: I haven't used MSDict since I came in contact with Merriam Webster.I uploaded this file a few years ago so you can give it a try.Thanks. Will check it out. |
