a lot of ugly people I know have the strongest self confidence i've come across in anyone. with the self-confidence and sociability, they become more attractive. so you just need to work on your swagger as some ppl call it. |
@OP, employment will NOT change her behavior. if she gets a job, she might even treat you worse than this. Initially, I was the one always wrong and I always apologized to bury the issue.she is only using it as an excuse. if she gets a job, she will find another reason for why you shouldn't confront her. I think you should be more courageous. Instead of apologizing to "bury the issue," you should stand firm on your convictions and see what she will do. don't apologize until she admits her wrong doing. if she accuses you of being disrespectful, tell her that you also refuse to be disrespected. you have been enduring her disrespectful behavior for so long and you refuse to endure it any longer. you both need to meet each other half way not you going all the way to meet her every time. |
. . .continued this is why when people say africans were forced to accept a white man's religion, I don't believe it because African christianity is African! yes we use english words and read the bible etc but our conceptualization of the religion is very African. a nigerian person's concept of devil is quite different from a white man's concept of devil.even ideas like witchcraft and demonic forces are very african. so yeah christianity really isn't a white man's religion as many africanists like to say. It can be anybody's religion. as long as you accept Jesus Christ as your lord and personal savior. ![]() |
I guess people have already answered the question. Esu was the closest representation of satan. the reason why they had to use a representation is because there is no way a religion can be replicated identically into a new culture. religion and culture are intrinsically linked so in other words, you can't transplant european culture into an african one. so of course European christianity had to go through a transformation to become more africanized. something the african mind can understand. you will find similarities in many other cultures. ex haitians converting to catholicism. you will see that they use their deities to represent the catholic saints st peter becomes legba st james becomes ogun st gabriel becomes gede etc it's just that they find similiarities between the two characters. |
I love how this thread is still about skin tone. |
ezeagu:just light skin and albino people. male and female we call them "oyinbo" or "omo igbo" why do u have a problem with that. |
eldee:Maybe Araboy has a twin then I might be lucky. lol |
Life is the best tutor.
check these out: "Experience is the best teacher, but the tuition is high." "Learn from other people's mistakes, you don't have time to make all of them yourself" |
ezeagu:lol @the fat women above are light. ![]() I guess they want to make light babies. and that is igbo men included. to increase the rate of yellow pawpaw ness in their tribe. you mean 100% yoruba ![]() let's be honest though. there isn't much igbo blood among yorubas. if there is, it probably goes back to times before written history. maybe yorubas took igbo slaves or something. so I have a question for you. do you count african americans as igbo even though i'm sure DNA tests will suggest that many of them are. no comment for the last sentence. who translated it for you anyway? i'm curious ![]() |
you guys are protesting because you wanted it to be a lebanese female abi. ![]() joking aside, it does seem a little strange |
ezeagu:lol. marriage/dating is not just about beauty. if that was the case even the nigerians abroad won't be going for the ugliest fattest americans. maybe some of the igbo women were easier to date than yoruba women. or they were interested in the guy. most yoruba guys won't turn a girl down ![]() anyways it increases our population so i'm not complaining. ezeagu:lol. So alj harem was right afterall. you guys take it to be a compliment. ![]() I'm actually impressed by the positive spin you put on it. |
smootheb:lol ![]() please don't make me choke on my drink. if you have to create a thread on nairaland to ask strangers for "the truth" about your partner , then sorry to inform you, you seem like a desperate woman. why don't you go find yourself someone more trustworthy? or wait for the right time? God I hope my life doesn't become like this. |
I guess black guys would date goats then. lol who knows what goes on behind closed doors ![]() |
alj harem:lol. you're yoruba aren't you? somehow I thought you were hausa or something. ![]() |
bashr4:I might be wrong. I'm just telling you my own perspective. maybe other yorubas can chime in. if you put a light skinned yoruba next to an equally light skinned igbo, most yorubas will consider the yoruba girl prettier. so to me, igbo beauty is really yellow pawpaw beauty. nothing else to it. ezeagu:less curves in comparison to yoruba women. I thought this was common knowledge. |
bashr4:it really has nothing to do with other beauty characteristics besides light skin tone. the ugliest light skinned yoruba girl will be called "omo igbo" yoruba albinos are also called "omo igbo" infact, my parents sometimes call african americans "omo igbo" if they look fair. but yes I agree with you that we place too much emphasis on skin tone. at least 80% of this topic is dedicated to who is fairer than who. |
ezeagu:igbo men are known to be shorter than yoruba. this is a stereotype yorubas have about igbos and about the muscular thing. you only just need to look at the nigerian female football team roster. or international beauty contests (where curves are non existent). |
Outstrip:lol I agree. black guys would date a goat if it had a crotch. |
suit yourself. lol that's just the stereotype I hear about your ethnic group |
this thread has descended into rubbish. lol it started with rubbish anyway 1st of all, I do not believe the "naija ancestral DNA" thing one bit. lol I personally think it's a made up or modified story. 2nd of all, yes there are lots of mixtures between ethnic groups. historically we (yorubas) are more mixed with hausas. whatever mixture there is with igbos is little and maybe has to do with lagos having lots of igbo immigrants that are trying to get assimilated into our society. lol and of course you are all welcome. 3rd of all, it's an interesting point Ezeuche brought up about color tone (earth/orange/yellow tone vs cool/red/purple tone). I never thought about it but it may have some truth. but yea yorubas are darker of course. I'm dark skinned myself and cool tone. I think it's beautiful. and whoever said that it was a compliment to look igbo. that's partially true. light skin is generally seen as a compliment. so it's the light skin ppl refer to. other than that, some stereotypical igbo characteristics (flat head and shortness in guys, lack of curves and muscular body in women etc) are not desirable. |
tEsLim:ok I misread your comment. my apologies. you are one of the smarter ones on this topic then because everyone else seem to want the british back and would prefer to be slaves. anyway, tone down on ur use of swear words. mr curtis james jackson iv. |
tEsLim:pls use your brain when comparing Nigeria to SA. apartheid just only ended in 1994 for christsake. but it's only the shiny houses and roads that you remember. who knows, maybe the blacks there are wishing for apartheid to come back. Nigerians are wishing for colonization to come back afterall. we black people have the worst slave mentality i've come across. either we have very short term memory or we have no knowledge of our history or we're just plain st.upid race of people. https://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/227045_1969572871723_1015006087_2317115_6936655_n.jpg yea. life was really good under british rule. |
Thank you Rossikk. I have been waiting for a critical post on this thread. I also am disgusted by the whole "the glory departed" response of Nigerians to these pictures. I can understand the romantic sentiments but it was just too much and made me feel that we are unwilling to look past a few idyllic, black and white or sepia toned, brand new city pics to look at the real picture of Nigeria past and present. well the briticos robbed us blind if you would compare SA to NG in the 60's. Though they built SA so well like they didn't wanna leave there. They had no future plans for Nigeria
