^before nko. Isn't this place full of Nigerians? lol. aren't you able to add NL to some kind of safe or ignore list? Seriously though, NL should be authenticated and not being flagged by anti-virus software. I wonder what Seun thinks? I'll ask . . . |
^hehe. Did you also buy your anti-virus software from Malaysia like JK? V3, how you dey do today? Abeg oh, I want to come to your next birthday party and see you in one piece. Be safe brother. |
jay bee:Legend has it . . . lol I no wan say anything before as I be Celtic fan. I think consistent energy and passion though from lesser talent has proven it can beat out Gasol and Bynum. |
Vesc is my boy jor! ![]() As for me, I am married to the greatest, wisest, sweetest, sexiest man to have ever walked on this planet. And I'm sure he would feel the same as I do on the independence except that he's not Nigerian so e no concern am at all lol. Back to movies. So is it going to be Johnny Depp? |

Na correct double barrelled, posh, respectable name o, You no see how e just dey roll off of your tongue eh ?Lol. Posh and double-barreled? if we do a quick poll how do you think the voting will go? ![]() But seriously, of course the welfare system could do with being tidied up some. And we can look at constructive ways to do that. But most conservative commentators always pivot to the ridiculous by constantly suggesting that all welfare recipients somehow are lazy and theiving lowlives. Like I mentioned earlier, the problem with demonizing them as such is that we as a society end up allowing those who are truly in need of it to suffer. Public policy isn't something that is implemented with fullproof plans so I personally would err on the side of allowing one or two crooks slip through while helping out the majority of truly needful. Ofcourse, tighten the enforcement too where you can (but then again, if we were talking about enforcement in certain other areas, then the same conservatives would be yelling BIG GOVERNMENT!, INTRUSION!!, FREEDOMS!!!"Good points. You're right a few on the left 'demonize' the entire bunch and call them all "lazy" and "irresponsible". But my dude, I know better. I have been fortunate to live, work and volunteer amongst the "urban" generation (hate that term) and I know that many times its not as simple or straightforward as "they don't want to work". People are truly destitute and down-trodden, hopeless in every sense of the word. Poor, insecure, live in terrible neighborhoods, no hope for the future. I was almost in tears last night watching the news of a mother and her 2yr old gunned down 2 days ago in Boston. These are not the people drawing my ire or that of others. I also see daily, teenage mothers with 3 kids, whose only source of income comes from the govt. They laugh about it, saying they will have more so they can get more money. How is a hardworking citizen of this country who feeds her supposed to react to that? I have seen both sides, and this is how I also know its frustrating to those on the other side when many liberals will not acknowledge that the system is terribly broken and needs fixing. They dismiss it as "just a few bad eggs". When people suggest and criticize the elements taking advantage of it, they are labelled right away (as evidenced in this thread) as selfish and don't want to help the poor. So of course they only dig they feet deeper into the sand in defense mode. The main thing is helping people to regain their self-esteem, sense of self worth, job creation, helping them find jobs and positively empowering them. We all know of people who lose their jobs and end up in desperate situations who would still refuse to sign up for welfare because of the stigma attached and their sense of pride. And when they do end up on it, you can bet your top dollar that they are most uncomfortable and desirous of getting out of it. They shouldn't be lampooned too.Excellent point. And for people in this situation I daresay is the point of welfare in the first place. A temporary fix to a temporary problem. Not a permanent source of income for a certain class of society, which is what it has mostly become. Now you have some communities of people, examples of where 3 generations of families have lived on welfare (probably shuniqua types of this world with 5 kids). Sadly but understandably, most of those kids grow up thinking that's the only way. These are the ones that need to helped out and they are much better ways of doing it than allowing them to starve cuz that's what the Bible says. So fine Shuniqua is an irresponsible parent. Should we allow her five "innocent" kids die of starvation too? - The problem of trying to figure out who is genuine and who is irresponsible a non-trivial problem and one that we likely won't resolve on the fine pages of nairaland.Very well said again. And I never advocated letting the kids starve by the way, just that some measure of accountability be levied on the parents. I believe that if we continue to hand out checks no questions asked, we're directly sanctioning and nourishing this endless cycle. And also because the system as it is cannot be sustained long-term. Welfare isn't an isolated issue. The main reason it's come to the fore now is because of the current bad and unhealthy state of the economy.I don't think its even in the fore now at all. It just happened to come up in the course of the conversation. At least I haven't heard it being discussed on a national level. It's poor people who are on welfare. They are the easy target. Everyone is angry about the economy so let's channel our anger on the poor people claiming welfare who are draining the system; never mind that they aren't really the ones who put us in this mess in the first place. Nope, those were the rich fat cats in high places. But no one wants to talk about those. They're untouchable. It's the big fat elephant in the room and it's pink too!I personally haven't heard anyone attack the poor. Infact just the opposite. The national anger has by far and far being directed at the CEO's and "fat-cats" of wall street, not main street. Overall, nicely done Omo~fat. Very nice. You brought some balance I didn't think to mention before. Kudos. |
^No be only Vesc jor. As far as I'm concerned, there's little to nothing to celebrate. Make we talk better thing jor. Next movie or actor please. I vote Johnny Depp or that thing called George Clooney. |
Tomorrow I will come. Only I will bring my trusty foldable koboko with me. Just wait ehn. Debates are fun now, only when positions and quotes are properly attributed to their owners. See how you vex when I mistook you for David. I have some labwork to finish jare. Have urself a pleasant evening sir. and you too omofat (which kin name be omo~fat self)? |
Lol@ triple sin. Mehn, you gotta love this word-filter. But I thank God for it because of spoilt children like v3. offtopic: v3, you dey in the middle of the showdown there in aba |
That's not fair. While it's true that some people cheat the welfare system, the truth is that the majority of people who get welfare are good for it - People in dire and severe straights. To tar all welfare recipients as crooks or a shuniqua with 6 kids because of the actions of a minority is unfair.
Statistics please? And where did I call ALL of them shuniquas? I used an example, albeit an extreme one to show the system is abused daily. From my own personal anecdotal evidence, at least 50% of welfare recipients should not be getting it. I spoke to a friend yesterday going thru tough times, she has two kids, she could use a ton of help but does she get it? no. Because the system is bogged down by leeches siphoning off hardworking americans. Read my posts again omofat. I did not say welfare is not necessary, just that abuse is widespread. So you do not even realize I agree with you 1000% when you say this: There are a lot more innocent people who would suffer than crooks who would benefit from the system.Who do you think suffers the most? those who actually need it!
Just like ending immigration bc some people abuse the system. Or ending democracy bc some evil fellow called Hitler came to power through the ballot. It's really not fair, but that's what the conservative media tries to show. life is all about empathy, as long as you don't feel the pain of the other person, he can go to hell. Until it happens to them. Just like this gun violence and gun control debate, the day a senators child falls victim to lone gunman, that day, gun control will become a serious debate in congress
Now its your turn to quote me properly. Please where did I say welfare should be ended? have I not infact consistently said it is infact necessary? And where did I tell others to go to hell until it happens to me? please quote me properly. Did I not infact speak of when I was unemployed? I repeat again prez, does the bible not say "he who does not work should not eat"? why does calling out these irresponsible people to be accountable for themselves become synonymous with "not caring until it happens to you"? why can't a person criticize loose irresponsible behavior of having 6 kids when you can't take care of them? without being labelled "right wing" and "not caring"? I'm tired. |
Dexmond, how body now? I appreciate your vote of confidence dear, but honestly MMW and Mukina are even better mods than I am. If you post a comment or thread and it immediately disappears, then it means it was the spam-bot (that annoying thing) that tagged your post and 'deleted' it. The spambot has also deleted and even banned me in the past, it happens to almost everyone here. If and when that happens just pop in here or alert a mod and we'll work to get it restored. Mukina, see me rookie, I forgot there was a "spambot" section where those threads are sent to. I can see his thread now. and oh Dexmond, I think the spambot tagged your thread maybe because you by-passed Seun's word filter? sorry I cannot give you a better explanation. |
^My favorite ayatollah , why you dey vex now? The reason for all the "hullabaloo" is she was actually the one who called the journalist saying she wanted to get her side of story out. Hence the resurrection of all of this. She was right though when she said that she cannot be blamed for the shortcomings of the system. She didn't force anyone to give her free housing. Boston has to look in the mirror on that one. |
and oh, you can watch pt2 of the interview on WBZ news. http://wbztv.com/local/obama.aunt.Zeituni.2.1924422.html |
When i heard Aunty Zee (as I like to call her) was giving an interview to the local news here in Boston, I armed myself with my best pro-immigrant arguments. For obvious reasons, I have a soft spot for african immigrants. After watching the interview, I no even fit talk again. This woman has swagger that she didn't pay for. lol. This interview angered a lot of people. The best quote of the interview: "If I come as an immigrant, you have the obligation to make me a citizen" [flash=500,400] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APFmDIyDQOs?fs=1&hl=en_US"[/flash] |
@Pres-elect, My guy, you have stepped up your game o big time. This is apparently your best line to date. Watch your back man, I am going to respond to your t.it with tat-tat-tat!
lol rumble in the jungle.@JeSoul,Na me be the I shall say hello. Bummed I didn't get to make your acquaintance while you were here, but I'm glad your family is doing well. If I'm ever in the big MN, you owe me dinner sir ![]() |
Prez, I don't think Tayo D was trying to "compare charities" but rather make a point that those who sometimes scream the loudest about helping the poor and point at others as greedy and selfish, do so erroneously. When conservatives talk about keeping their own money, the left screams they are selfish and don't want to help the needy - case in point this very thread. Tayo is simply showing how that is mostly untrue. I was accused of being selfish and I should "keep my change", does he even know how I spend my money? because leftists herald and shout from the rooftops when they give while others keep their bizniz quiet, they assume they are the only ones interested in "giving". Talk about self-righteousness (not you though TayoD, I am not troubled jare. We all know welfare is good and necessary when it goes to its intended purpose. Right now there is widespread abuse of the system. Like you said, some are confusing "compassion" for continuing to foot the bill for many lazy, criminal people who simply do not want to work. I reminded Prez, is it not the same bible that says "whoever doesn't work should not eat"? why is that principle being abandoned in the name of false "compassion"? I know many single mothers, they don't stay home and engage with criminal men and continue to father more and more children for the govt to take care of, they bust their behinds and work hard to take care of the their children. See even the immigrants, how hard they work - 2, 3 jobs just to feed their children. Yet some are crying we should continue to fund sheniqua and her 6 children all from different fathers, without even realizing the money oftentimes doesn't go to the children, but rather to her $500 weave-on and gucci purse. Until we demand responsibility and accountability, we are only encouraging them to remain as they are, while convincing ourselves we are "helping" them. Tayo please help me tell them oh! lol |
Na wa oh, see what one innocent word has caused lol. V3, bad boy, whatever your naughty mind says it is, it is the exact opposite. kobikwelu:Kai! ![]() |
Lol, my knight. I shall tell oga somebody got my back. The term 'tea bagger' is actually a sexually explicit insult. That should help understand why i leave him be. No not only bball now, some weights too, some cardio etc you up for it? . And you don't have a chauvinistic bone in ur body sir. You are wise as i always like to remind you. And all ur efforts at modesty will not work . |
Emeka, against my better jugdement i replied you again. I won't make that mistake a 3rd time. Godbless n i hope you'll find another "tea bagger" to indulge your prejudices. Godbless Vescucci! What findest thou in this part of the woods? Its late oh I know. I'm off to do some sets in the gym, wanna come? ![]() |
. . . and by the way, i'm an independent. Republicans & democrats suck. |
^oga, i was without employment for 1 month few yrs ago and thought that was death. You think i have no sympathy for someone who's going on for months n even yrs? The only ppl i am against r those who milk the system and take advantage of 'welfare' meant for those who truly need it. |
Prez make I answer betta pesin . . .
Also, note that as the bible says, the heart of man is perpetually evil. The conservative secret code is" I'm fine screw you" and when they are in trouble they scream " I'm stewed help me" , they say small govt and yet we see some trouble in their states they want fed govt intervension. After the gulf spill we see even missisipi gov glad to see Obama in his home trying to help boost tourism in Mississippi.
You are right in that the prevailing sentiment from the right is every man for himself but you're being shortsighted. I have no problem helping my neighbor - this is afterall the highest calling as a christian. What I have a huge problem with is the massive corruption that prevails in the welfare system. Do you know a good majority of people who are collecting "welfare" are able-bodied people who simply do not want to work? have you ever watched the movie "Precious"? it should give you a good idea. I have heard with my own two ears, people say they will have more kids because they can receive more money from the govt. People are taking advantage of the system and the "generosity" of taxpayers. Who be mugu? Before ODB (ol' dirty naughty person) the rapper died, he did a "documentary", where he showed he was collecting food stamps and welfare checks! this a millionaire rapper. Yet you think you're giving to the "poor"? Many people believe the unemployed are lazy people. This is sad. They worry about deficit But they won't waste time I giving huge money on the budget for war or defense, money that doesn't even benefit the boys in the field( and not about sharing money in the battle field as tayo choose to understand it, but in having the right equipment for war, IED resistant armoured vehicles, etc) instead the money goes to contractors. This is funky logic. So baby mama can continue to live as irresponsibly as she likes - on somebody elses dime? the kids are innocent, but where does the buck stop? when will someone force her to get her behind up and work like millions of other single mothers and fathers out there? No be the same bible wey talk say "he who doesn't work should not eat"? There genuinely ladden people that need help and it will be my honor and priviledge to extend a hand. But if you've convinced yourself you're "helping the poor" by handing out free money and encouraging such wanton irresponsibility, then by all means, be my guest. |
and oh, I'm down with bashing in some heads ![]() |
Lol. JK, your bribe money was strong enough. Try again ![]() |
What displeasure?. That he didn't win by a landslide?. That will be the cry of a hater because it doesn't matter as long as he won. After all, republicans rejoiced when Bush erroneously won against Al Gore, didn't they? or did they register displeasure? I didn't claim that African Americans single handedly voted Obama into office. I said, their choice was influenced by skin color which sounds racist to me. Even a retard knows that black support in America is not enough to vote in a president. If that was the case, Jesse Jackson would have beaten Dukakis in the 80's. Learn to read well before jumping into conclusions. Another bigoted misconception. Miss, I am not here to make blind GOP/Democrats arguments. When the rich use their money to influence people's choice, it is immoral and ethically improper. I can't recall where I said they should not keep their dollars. If your argument is the case, then IBB should use the available machinery his stolen wealth can buy him to win the upcoming election in Nigeria. Another tired line. How much money do you make that is responsible for feeding Shaniqua and her different baby daddies?. Patapata you will be making $120k/annum; is that why you put others down when the govt is not even looking towards taxing you extra?. I don't blame you because if you were those kids trapped in between dysfunctional parents, the song in your tongue would have been different. There are Shaniquas created at home and in the country of Iraq due to the war that was designed to make the rich increase their wealth and bank them in their offshore accounts in Cayman Islands and why the same evil moguls soliloquize at the mention of increased taxes for them beats me. Who is hating on rich republicans?. May I remind you that there are many shaniquas in Nigeria struggling to survive while the rich Nigerian conservatives collect kickbacks from oil and gas companies. The adverse effect is complete lawlessness and possible violent crimes as seen in our societies. So, keep your change because you don't even make enough that matters to the government let's talk about professionals who actually make good money. Also, republicans are not the only rich ones; there are many rich democrats who support that agenda. As a matter of fact, democrats make up about 70% of the first 10 rich people in America and not republicans. When people pay to feed the hungry, they don't necessarily do it because they love them, rather they do it because they want to be able to go about their business without anybody harassing them with gun. Why won't the GOP kick against the logic when it will affect their NRA agenda .
I am tempted to reply, but I know it will only be an exercise in futility. Since I apparently the money I make is "change" lemme go and focus on upping my game. |
Obama won with a landslide? 55%/45% is a landslide to you?.
Go siddon jor, when the NL headlines on Nov 3rd 2008 read "Obama wins in a landslide" you did not register your displeasure there ![]() Racism is a very dangerous virus and it is very difficult to prove. Racism also helped Obama win because the massive support he got from African Americans was due to racism.Lets see. . . African americans make up 14% of the total U.S population, and only about 25% of that 14% actually vote. And of those 25%, how many of them do you think bothered to participate in primaries that Obama had to win to advance to the finals? African-american support, while good and padded his support, is not what got Obama into office. Money is also a factor and the republicans are the ones who have it.So people who have money should not fight to keep their hard-earned dollars? is it a crime to be rich? why should I go to school, suffer and study, work hard at my job, only for someone in the govt to take my sweat and hand it to sheniqua with 6 kids from 6 different daddys in prison - all in the name of welfare? I don't get why people hate on rich republicans who simply want to keep their own money.
JeSoul my dear, do you still have that application?
