mafe23:
omega25red and JeSoul: Thanks for your follow-up and concern.

Now to my explanation:

When I began processing a re-issue of my passport, I only had my birth certificate, some vital information such as (Hospital of Birth,Place of birth,Time of birth,Residence, from my Mum) my school certificates,a few growing up pictures and a genealogy printout from www.ancestry.com. (If you have the time, you can look up some of my records with my name: ______________________ ,hence the user name MAFE23).

At the US Consulate inner office,I was given a form which I filled with perosnal information. None of which requested my SSN.My passport photograph was attached to the form and I was made to swear in front of an Attorney right there in the office. There after I was told to go pay passport processing fees. I was told to expect my passport in two weeks time. It was after I picked up my passport that I was told that I still needed to have my SSN.That the passport is just a travel document unlike the SSN which is more or less a person's life. I was told you need it to do vital things such as opening bank accounts, getting a driver's license, applying for loans e.t.c

I remember been told that I was likely to be issued my SSN.The problem could be that my parents had forgotten the number.I don't think my Mum remembered that.I was also told that I needed to get back to the US to process one and that it would take between 2 to 4 weeks to get one. I was reliably told that The Social Security Administration had no administrative support for Nigeria or any other African country and that the US State of Department and the Social Security Administration are 2 different US agencies minding their own business.

After paying several frustrating visits to the Consular office, someone advised me to make US Dept. Of State notarized copies of my passport and birth certificate and send by registered courier to their office. I did as told, paid for notarization at the US Consulate, sent the documents via EMS Speedpost and tracked it online. Till today I haven't heard anything.

For correspondence btw SSA and I and even a scanned copy of my US passport,do send/post your e-mail address. Mine's is :aiyesweet@gmail.com. You can even get comprehensive information about me from the FPU Section/US Consulate,Lagos Nigeria.

I am not a scam artist. I am just reaching out for help. As soon as I get my SSN,apply for a credit card(never applied for one;so that should qualify me for a Good/Excellent Credit rating) I'll be able to payback definitely, even with interest.

David Aiyedun.
Hmm. . . I want to believe that a scammer would not be able to concoct such a story with details. Mafe don't be upset we're questioning you so bluntly. I'm sure you're aware of how corruption is rife in Nigeria, we are suspicious of any and all stories - ditto to Dantecmu as well. We're just being overly cautious oh, no blame us.

Mafe, no vex ehn, but few more questions. what kind of legal service do you want to offer? and also how do you intend to offer it long distance to folks in the US? Once you get back to the US what is your game plan? do you have a place to go to? a place to live? a job you can live off from? I mean what is your plan? or is this a leap of faith into the dark? Sorry for all the questions, feel free not to answer whatever you don't want to.

I would wager that the one thing most Africans who haven't travelled Africa are concerned about is safety. Maybe I'm ignorant, but the prevailing perception is that it seems there are only a handful of African countries/cities that are safe to vacation in for outsiders. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

As soon as I praise Anderson Cooper a bit what does he go and do? the show last night was about subpeonas being issued in the John Edwards saga. huh huh seriously? that's the best news item of the day to highlight? it took all but 2 seconds to change the channel. CNN wake up before you die off completely oh! wake up.

bawomolo:
fareed zakari was very good on PBS. he sold out with his show on CNN.
Never saw him on pbs. Its hard to imagine he's been anything other than a mouthpiece for ME BS spin.

i can do nothing but chuckle a little when elliot spitzer is on cnn. the thought of him meeting up with an hooker after the show doesn't skip my head.
Hehe grin I know right. Even his face has a weird untrustworthy look about it. I give that show 1 month, at most 2, before management pulls the plug.

this is a remarkably ignorant post. oppression isn't some competition with people fighting for the first spot.

The broadest of questions. There are hundreds of masters courses, from hundreds of Universities all around the country. They all vary (sometimes drastically) in their requirements or course load in order to graduate. Call/email the school you're trying to get into and get the information directly from them.

. . . and oh, forgot to comment on this earlier-
july123:
the time slot is being filled by a new show featuring former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and columnist Kathleen Parker.
I've been seeing the commercials for this. Caught some sneak/preview of them 'bantering' on Larry king I think or was it 360? anyways both are boring as hell. Seriously CNN? your ratings are dropping faster than Eddie Murphy's acting career and this is the best "prime time" duo you can some up with?

CNN's shows/hosts are generally boring. If you want to put your screaming infant child to bed fast, just put Fareed Zakaria's GPS on. Campbell Brown I thought was a solid journalist, too bad she left. At least Anderson Cooper seems to be getting better with 360. Invite some better guest analysts and his show will do even better. I wonder what his ratings are like though.

TV/MoviesRe: Nollywood Now Second Largest Movie Industry In The World by JeSoul(f): 3:30pm On Oct 06, 2010
^Cold, we can most certainly do better. I think most people are just pleading Nigerians should be more supportive and encouraging even though we're far behind in terms of quality. Altogether not an unreasonable suggestion I think.

samoks:
Thank you my brother, please tell them more.

Kokoye is probably a Yoruba guy who hates the IGBO dominated english movie industry more because that is the industry that has brought Nigeria more fame, who in the yoruba movie industry is known worldwide like the Genes, JIM iykes, Ramsy Noahs and Omotolas, It is only the english movie industry that can go to Ghana and other African countries and feature those countries' top actors and actresses in their movies,

Please stop the beeeeeefffffff.

The Ibo English movies are in another class compared to the Yoruba ones,
Ahn ahn Samoks you don't know that now. Give him the benefit of doubt. He probably just likes yoruba movies more cos he prefers the line, method of storytelling. It doesn't have to mean he hates Igbos. And oh, I seconded the "lets support Naija movies" sentiment of his post.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Do Some Christians Hate To Pay Their Tithes? by JeSoul(f): 3:10pm On Oct 06, 2010
chiteny:
WOW shocked!!

I never thought i would contribute to this tithe thing. But i am provoked to after rerading through this thread from the begining till now i am writing. I see so many funny posts like "God taking His 10% from the source and the rest that comes to you is your 90%" This is not the best approach. If you don't want to pay your tithes please do not decieve yourself by adopting this method. Don't pay outrightly and live with your conscience that way.

Now to my own contribution. A quote from newmi, "And then in the new testament that scenerio was re-ecoed in Hebrews 7:1-2, "1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace""

This is just a mention of an event that happened in the old testament and not a statement affirming the fact that we are supposed to pay our tithes.

I had to put up this quote as it is the norm for many "men of God" to quote a scripture of the bible for thier own benefit. Honestly i am yet to see any place in the new testament that say we should pay out "tenth" or tithe to the church, be it money or food stuff.

Now, you all must know that i pay my tithe even if i am sounding like i am against tithe paying. i have payed it right since my secondary school (as many pastors would encourage people to do, even if your mummy dash you N10, you must pay N1 tithe). But i pay my tithe not because i feel it is compulsory, but because i see it as my contribution to the work of God through my church. I am at liberty to use the 10% (more or less) to buy gifts or give it outrightly to the poor or needy or widows or those in prison if i want to.

In view of this, I buy the idea of singili who says he/she would be giving 10% to the less previleged. but bros mind the way you say "God Damn Churches". leave the churches to God to damn. just do what u know is right.

JPworld you are taking things to the extreme if i may say. You need God in your life. All the wealth in this world cannot offer to you what God can offer to you. So even if you don't pay tithes, please acknowledge God in all you do. Reverence, fear and worship Him.

i am open to critics and criticism. i will reply you in due course.
Impressive about this post is not necessarily the content, but moreso the spirit with which the content is articulated. Chiteny, whatever its worth, you have my respect.
TV/MoviesRe: Nollywood Now Second Largest Movie Industry In The World by JeSoul(f): 3:07pm On Oct 06, 2010
kokoye:
In the midst of all the local hate, discouragement, abuses, zero power supply, piracy, lack of patronage by its own people, low wages, fraudulent marketers, etc.

The Nigerian movie industry is still thriving. And whether you like it or not, the world knows about it. These guys are working their butts of to earn a living . .can you encourage them?

I watch yoruba movies everyday. . .it keeps me sane and laughing because I am able to relate to the jokes. I honestly dont like english speaking Naija movies cos the storylines are predictable and therefore boring to me. But I wont kill them for it.

Why dont you ask this question : Is the Nigerian movie industry movie forward or backward??

You dont have to like it or watch it, but consider all the things that these guys have to deal with and what they have been able to achieve.

Can we please appreciate and encourage our own . . for once??
Despite my other reservations about Naija movies, in this instance, I second Kokoye's post fully.

Isn't Miami over-reacting? it was just one bad loss now huh
TV/MoviesRe: The Movie Club by JeSoul(f): 2:35pm On Oct 06, 2010
Obinna we're not "taking turns in reviewing movies", we're taking turns picking which movies for the club to review. If someone suggests a 'wack' movie, then its their loss cos only him/her will be interested in reviewing it and he/she will not get any contributions - I doubt anyone will want that. The goal should be for each person to pick a good movie most people have seen and would love to review. He/she can even solicit opinions - movies - from the posters and then be the one to make a final decision.

This pick 'several movies and lets vote' don tire me. That system has lost its shine. We've been on "what to review next" for so long I cannot even remember what the last movie we reviewed was.

bawomolo:
why is everyone quiet, rejoice with me now grin
grin  grin
Special teams made their money last night. And this shorty Woodhead is writing his own Wes Welker story. Very very important and good win for the Pats, especially the young defense. I hope they can keep this up. Chad Henne made a ton of mistakes too, that helped us.

rikkyjen:
JeSoul, leave matter for matthias jare. Last FG goal. . win na win, dem win us. infact all join! grin grin grin
Win na win now but some wins are less decisive than others. Jags made the 4th? longest kick in NFL hist to walk off with the win - that was skill, but it was also plenty of luck. wow, am I defending the Colts?  shocked  grin

You know that John Boehmer(the speaker-elect according to the polls) would chase botox faced-Nancy Pelosi out of DC with Botox syringe !!! Its a wrap for the Dems jare. Loved kennedy, he was a partisan zealot though but he always got the job done. He would be rolling in his grave  seeing how spineless Barrack and the gang have been. grin
Na people like ME go vote out the Democratic wussies or better make i site for house dey watch Manning old clips.

They told us Obama was going to win NH in the primaries smiley[/quote]Hehe, na true you talk . . . I also heard madam winch O'Donnell was down by 10 points on the day of the primaries lol.

Some of the rhetoric may have been directed at the CEOs and fat-cats but none of the policies have really affected them directly. All the spending freeze debates, current tax rate debates, etc all hit the poor disproportionately more than the rich. Personally, if I were a wall street CEO, I wouldn't mind much being called a fat-cat and having much of the verbal anger directed at me as long as they didn't enact policies that touched my bottomline, raised my taxes, etc. Sticks and stones may break my bones but words . . . . .
I think you're mostly right on that. I know banks who received bail-out funds are restricted in what they can do, how much they can pay ceo's and contractors etc. Overall its going to be hard to 'regulate' these bodies considering the american system, in that I sympathize with Obama and his administration. Capitalism has its demons, and they are fiercely ugly and I don't know that its opposite is any prettier.

And if you were a wall street CEO, we would not even see your brake light on a lowly common-man site like NL grin.
