So I recently stumbled onto Kinkinatus, a movie buff hiding in the NL rough and solicited his top 20. Here are the results: Kinkinatus:Lol this list spans all the genres and even across centuries . Wow, cool. I haven't seen Benji Butt, nor Kungfu Panda nor Schindler's list Definitely feeling: Matrix and shawshank are sorta staples in everybody's top 20. But men you going real ol'skool with TDTEST and Ten Commandments - haven't seen those either but I hear good things. Green mile is a really good movie, though for some strange reason I don't like it. Star Wars, Slience and now Avatar are simply classics. Antwone Fisher was a moving flick. And Saving Private Ryan is one of the top war movie efforts ever. Nai! nai! say it ain't so!: My dude, what is "Two can play that game" doing on your list ehn? fix that typo quick quick . I've seen Heat, but honestly, I did not get "it". Thanks for obliging, my anticipation was not in vain! lol I now leave you in the hands of Max, No2A, Spiked, Vesc and Karma ![]() Question (as you can see I'm full of them lol) what is your opinion of 'Memento'? |
Mavenb0x:Cool idea! something just crept into my mind . . . gimme a few to refine it properly. |
toneyb:No qualms brotha .and I want you to see and understand that believing in something you or other consider ridiculous has almost no bearing on anything. Whether or not I am fundamental or literalist in my beliefs of the virgin mary is of no consequence to anyone but myself. Pardon the blowing of my own horn, but I am a contributing citizen of my community, I do my part in making the world around me better, everyday I am a good ambassador of my family and my country of birth and country of home. I am a research scientist currently working on a drug for psoriasis. I help my neighbors in any way I can, I help strangers find their way around town. And if there's ever a need, I count it an incredible joy and priviledge if I can help. I do all these things . . . but yet, according to Religulous and its followers, because I happen to believe little ol' Mary was a virgin when she had Jesus, I should be dismissed as stoopid? and irrational? and a danger to society? I hope you can see how ridiculous such a gross overgeneralization is. |
You didn't answer my question so I still cannot answer yours. How does my personal belief in the virgin birth story negatively or positively affect anyone other than myself? The answer will give you a massive hint why a big chunk of Religulous is ridiculous. |
H2O2:hmm I dunno about dat . . . you fit handle wife wahala so? ![]() r231:My brother easy now, no vex with H2. You're right that the all-star game should be about the season in question, not a popularity contest. I blame Stern completely. Everyone knows this has been a big problem for years but the league has done nada about it. |
biina:Hehe, he'll have to fight tooth and nail through Bawo first ![]() |
Hobbit please? LMAO! She and Carey made a great couple in that movie lol. I haven't been seeing her in movies lately though. I was taken with her in Bad Boys (the ONLY movie Martin Lawrence was funny in) and liked her ever since.
Lol, oh common now Maxy girl, Martin is a funny guy. I laugh everytime I watch 'Blue Streak'. I can never forget Haley's performance in AI, when he's introduced to his new parents, and he smiles because he badly wants them to like him, taps the ground and says, "I like your floor." With that bright, fixed smile. Or the superb scene in Sixth Sense when Willis does some magic to try and cheer him up, and he says, with jaw-dropping sarcasm, "I didn't know you were funny."*cough cough* uhm I haven't seen AI. Heard good things though . . . |
I will answer if you answer me this first, does my personal belief in the virgin birth story positively or negatively affect my neighbor, my co-workers, my community, my state and the world at large? and if it does how? does my personal belief in the virgin birth affect anyone other than me? |
Maven! ![]() Re: How To Receive God's Word And Get Cool Yummy Profit From It? na wa for title oh . . . lol. Anyways solid post. I was actually thinking about this lesson just yesterday. Mavenb0x:Very very good observation. No soil is ever truly completely pure, and it is the same with our hearts. 30, 60 or 100 will be determined by how much stones and thorns we're able to rid ourselves of as we grow. |
Krayola: Lol. Krayola, lef am jare. The point has been made for all to see. |
Negro, hmm, the FBI and CIA have cyberbots that detect these kinds of things oh. This one serious pass just mere imagination. Don't let someone get some false impression and add more fuel to the 'Nigerians are terrorists' fire that is currently burning. |
Horus:Kai that is harsh ![]() |
MyJoe:Sir you're too kind. I used to think I was smart until I joined NL, lol, and started to read and learn from truly wise people from both sides of the religious aisle. So the thanks should really go to you Joe! I've read several thoughtful posts from you all over the forum. I'm always much impressed and inspired to see non-religious people speak as you have on this thread, stressing that Science cannot and has not and will probably not be able to explain everything. I wish the atheist will see that the very sins they accuse religionists of they also are just as guilty of. |
MyJoe:That is a cherished belief most atheists here on NL use to caress their egos. While ignoring the fact there are countless people of faith, distinguished in their disciplines of choice. Even here on NL we have seen them if anyone cares to notice. But because we happen to be christians we must be stoopid. The reasoning of these chumps is something to behold. |
vigasimple:I don talk am 2 pages ago. Instead of them to be issuing ultimatums to an absent president they are busy feeling insulted. Bunch of fools. |
Nice. I don't remember the plot all too well. Elija Wood has a love interest.
Yea and he gets selected along with his fam to go to the ark, he travels all the way to the caves, then decides last minute, just before the meteor hits he wants to go back for his love *rolls eyes* Hobbit please. That was very unrealistic. Tea Leoni and someone else dies spectacularly by water. The president survives, I think.Yup again. Tea and her daddy get crushed rather magnificently, it was a touching scene. Perhaps similar to the scene where the indian guy and his fam get killed in 2012. It has its shortcomings but I agree, 2012 is not in its league. Where has Tea gone anyways? She was the most successful actress in the world at one time. Wood has the best management you could ask for. He was a child star that successfully migrated into an adult star. Very very rare. Ask Maculkin and amazingly talented Haley Joel Osment.Tea was just delightful alongside Jim Carey in 'Fun with Di.c.k and Jane'. Osment still has time, he can be resuced before falling to a similar fate as Mac. |
Kay 17:The same way you arrived at the botched conclusion that He doesn't. By Faith. |
MyJoe:Questions I wish every atheist would carefully consider. And coming from a non-religious person such as yourself Joe, I applaud. |
debosky: On a serious note, I wish the Senate would issue Yaradua a 7day ultimatum to show up or else power would be stripped from him and given to the vice. If only we react to our own personal issues as swiftly as we do foreign insults ![]() |

Don't feel so sad girl. Perhaps you've outgrown and "out-matured" them and its time to move on. Sometimes we have people in our lives for a seaon, they are right for that season but soon enough things change and you have to move on. If it turns out you have less and less in common with them and you're picking up habits you don't like, and doing things you're not comfortable with then it is time. But take heart ehn, friends come and go and few stick around for an entire lifetime, and its important to know that that is not necessarily a bad thing. Try to find through live and cyber social networking and build up relationships with like-minded people, its healthy for your spirit and soul. Cheers! |
JeSoul: Kinkinatus:Okay, I will be anticipating much Better?Movie prequels and sequels. That's the dream of movie financiers and marketers dreams and it is us movie goers pet peeves. Wouldn't it be nice if a movie was just a movie with no further crappy bits added on to make parts 2 to 5? Well, life was never that simple. If they couldn't make sequels then they'd just re-do movies every few years I'm execting for another version of Hulk pertty soon.obinna5000:Alice in wonderland I am waiting for! I hope there's a solid, emotional delivery behind the excessive |
No2Atheism:Lol He knows well well now . . . he was already accusing me by week 2 On the Deep Impact movie . . . I have to agree with u that though it does not have the same kind of impressive special effects (sue me I am a sucker for Sci-Fi special effectsI prophetess, prophesy 2012 will be long forgotten before 2012 - shoot, those Mayans and their calendars and foresight ain't go nuthin on me *dusts the imaginary dirt off her shoulders* |
Kinkinatus:Thank you my brother, 'ppreciate the heads up on those books . Take all the time you need (but not too much or else I'll start hounding you ) with your top 20. I will be anticipating much much. No2Atheism:Lol . . . haba No2A, if you're old enough to be growing a beard then you should be getting over that hangover long long time ago ![]() |
No flipping allowed Sauer. You made your entire reply to Krayola's last post only about Dawkins - I thought Maher was the flava of the topic? sauer: . . . I am so glad you pointed this out. Therefore think it not strange or out of place that many of us dismiss this so-called "documentary" as ludicrous comedy, not worthy for a nano second of being mistaken as a picture borne out of an ounce of scholarship or erudition. If all anyone is saying is Religulous is a piece of comedy that contains some truths about some religious fundamentalists but is not meant to be taken seriously as an educated attempt at religious commentary, then I have no qualms with that. Cheerios. |
[flash=500,400]http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/MeRJ7euUShg[/flash] What is it about the name Jesus that gets people so worked up? and gets their arteries all clogged up with fury? Lol . . . I don't flinch or batt any eye lids when I hear mohammed or buddha or krishna or confucius. The man simply expressed an opinion and he's getting hammered. |
sauer:Forgive me, I thought it would be obvious that wasn't meant in the most literal of senses. Maher is senile and is slowly becoming as irrational as the very silly "religious" people he campaigns against. My take is silly because it disagrees with yours? Here's Krayola's take which I think further elucidates my intial points: Krayola:Please see the bolded parts, is Krayola wrong? |
Religulous. Has some elements of note, but is basically one man's long, bitter, poisonous, acidic rant against religion. Bill Maher is obviously an intelligent man. But his hatred for all things religion has handicapped him severely from being objective on issues that even slightly branch into religion. We all know there are problems with religion, but to go about heralding death to all of faith reeks of an ailment best addressed to a psychiatrist. I used to listen to him a lot, but he has slowly degenerated into a senile, bitter old man with a microphone who spits curses on anything or anyone that does not conform to his twisted worldview. Just my small comment on the matter. |
biina:Well, assigning blame will certainly not do any good. If this story helps her sleep better, then good for her. Either way, deep down, I know I would feel responsible. bawomolo:So how are ya'll preparing for the draft? oh wait my bad, you traded all your picks for Cutler! ![]() |
biina:The Colts do have I think the best shot at winning it all . . . but if the football gods are fair and just, they will falter miserably ![]() #2 Chargers - A very interesting team with their tall receivers. Would have loved to see them against Revis and the Jets. Outside of the Colts, the should be able to handle everyone else. They guys have been flying under the radar the entire season. I have a ton of faith in Rivers, they could go all the way. #3 Pats - They would have been an interesting matchup for the Chargers, but with Welker out, I doubt they can get past Baltimore. NE has operated with primarily 2 receivers all season, and now they are down to one. Add a sputtering running game, and a dodgy pass defence, and there is just so much one can ask of "Brady to Moss". Sorry but NE will be 1 and done.False prophet! Edelman will step into Welkers shoes.#4 Bengals - Interesting rematch against the Jets, which I expect them to win, but I dont see them going beyond the divisional rounds against either the colts or chargers.I expect Cincy to dismiss the delusional Jets. #1 Saints - Not looking good. Their performance has been mediocre in the last 5 games. Add the lackI won't count them out just yet. I still think they have enough in the tank to do damage. #2 Vikings - Have the ingredients (in Favre, AP, and a great defence), and the recipe (run first and let Favre make big plays with the play fake), but the question is can they cook?. Childress and Favre need to sort out their issues, and AP needs to protect the ball better. With those issues unresolved, I dont see them going beyond their first game.No Giants to hate on this year, so the Vikings will take their place in my heart #3 Cowboys - One and done against the eagles. Th inexperience of Romo and the cowboys will come to the fore, and they will once again choke against the eagles. There is a reason the Cowboys haven't one a playoff game in 10yrs.I'm actually rooting for the Cowboys, the bi-polar Eagles do not deserve to advance. and as for their bi-polar cousins the Cardinals, who know what to expect from them. Their run last year makes me not want to rule them out. #4 Cardinals - The team whose performance is a random process. Their game against the packers is an interesting one, and I feel with Warner playing they should be able to get over the packers. They will definitely need boldon and cromartie back to stand a chance. They are the most unpredictable and dangerous team in the NFC. |
