Chrisbenogor:Lol, Chris why dost thou flatter me with such a lofty title? (albeit a regularly misappropriated one) VeriLee:This is great news. I pray you continue in this independence which you'll soon find out is true freedom to live out your faith in God and not in man. I also encourage you not to succumb to any pressure that the leadership may mount on you. Any outfit that would revert to such tactics of charging other members to avoid you are showing their true colors. I pray that after all is said and done, and you've earnestly sought after truth, you find yourself at the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ. Godbless. |
Kinkinatus:hehe, if only they directed all that zeal towards more profitable ventures, say their books? lol We have all been there ![]() I looked at your list on the other thread and I was taken aback to notice that I actually own about 15 DVD's of the titles on your list. LOL.You don't say lol. That's cool. You may want to know Shawshank Redemption was voted no.1 movie of all time on one of the respected TV channels in the UK about 2 years ago. I never get tired of watching that movie. The Matrix trilogy is one of my favourites too. Love Neo and Morpheus and Trinity to bits. Trading Places is an evergreen favourite of mine, Shrek too. I would say Eddie Murphy does do good work when he has a good script. I even went on to get the Hannibal Lecter trilogy. I do enjoy horror too and I am currently waiting for my copy of Drag Me To Hell. That is one movie I want to see. Cheesy I hear, but good.Hey, we're all allowed a guilty pleasure or two here and there lol. That list might need some updating though . . . I adore 'Happy Feet', loved 'District 9', was moved beyond moved by 'The Box', thoroughly enchanted by 'Avatar' and so many more . . . and while we're on the subject, can I successfully entice you to post your top 20 movies of all time on the other thread? pretty please? From the little I've read from you here, you must be among the brilliant movie minds hiding here on NL. If you are into fantasy, political intrigue, assassination and dragons mixed with morally ambiguous heroes, then I would recommend George RR Martin's books of Ice and Fire to you.I am sold I will check them out. Thanks! |
Lol . . . I can make a very successful comedy flick out of the conversations on this thread. Maliced elephant, sudanese feet, wifeymatrix? Lol . . . and dominatrix? moi? nah infact I have found employing the opposite tactic to be most effective in disarming and charming the opposite. In other developments, I watched "Deep Impact" over the weekend starring Elijah Wood, Tea Leoni, Morgan Freeman from way back in 1998. Only real difference btw this and 2012 is the destruction by meteor vs solar flares. Deep Impact did successfully everything 2012 failed to do. Even though the graphics looked oldies, it managed to be more believable than 2012. And there was that connection and intimacy between the characters and audience. There were many moving scenes, a good movie overall. Note to today's hollywood producer/director generation: CGI is not everything. |
spikedcylinder:For real, he destroyed his rep by rating Vantage Point 95%. 95%? I still cannot believe it. |
Kinkinatus:It really has everything to do with the bank rollers. Once they smell a fanaticized audience they do their darndest to suck as much money as possible. See how Twilight has stormed the scene and grossed unthinkable amounts of money - all because of love-hungry, vampire-obessed teenagers all over the globe? Infact in a local high school here they had to dispatch police officers cos kids were coming to school dressed as Vamps and causing a stir. I blame it on the hormonal imbalance they're all suffering at this stage in their lives ![]() I guess movies or no, nothing beats a good read of a very good book. Very seldom does one see a movie that equals the well written book on which it is based.Exactly. Vescucci was lamenting on the "Hollywood" thread a while back about how the Bourne series did not do sufficient justice to the books. I hadn't read the books so I didn't know better. But considering how good the films were, the books must've been awesome. One thing I must say is that you have done a great job of managing your expectations. I am curious as to what sort of movie strikes all the right notes in your expectations. I see that you are resisting the urge to go see Sherlock Holmes. That is very interesting. The famous detective created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock Holmes is excellent. One of my favourite books. I must confess I am curious to know if the movie will live up to the book. I was thinking of waiting for it to be out on DVD and consider if I want to get a copy.Lol, I'd pretty much made up the mind to wait for the DVD. I would be terribly upset to go to the theatre and spend $ to be disappointed. or if I'm feeling rogue, I will find a good upload on one of those chinese websites online and sin .As for my movie inclinations . . . my brother it ranges big time. Check this out https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-173006.832.html#msg3711136 My best book so far is George RR Martin of A Song of Ice and Fire. I am waiting for the release of a Dance of Dragons, the lastest sequel which has been snapped up by HBO to be converted into a mini-series. I fear you may prove me wrong, if Iron Man 2 turns out to be a damp squib. I will probably hung my head in shame.Haven't read so many good books, only one lifetime to read them all. |
Pastor AIO:Na so oh pastor. We shall know them by their fruit abi? Pastor AIO:Hehe . . . If Muslims Ever Get The Kind Of Money And Power The Catholic Church Has . . . imagine Abuzola x 6billion . . . a frightening thought if I ever had one Pastor AIO:Talk about a recession proof business ![]() |
spikedcylinder:My own way of fondi-fying a name I love quirky movies, movies with wicked punch lines and rhetorics, stuff that captures my attention with engaging characters to the very end. Juno is one of my all time faves, The Darjeeling Ltd comes to mind as well. Thanks for clearing that up , I haven't seen either of those yet. But the next time Sauron tries to sling mud, I have some ammunition to use in your defense ![]() |
Pastor AIO:Lol and Tonye T would be collecting the money ![]() |
lol, funny topic . . . If Pentecostals Ever Get The Kind Of Money And Power The Catholic Church Has . . . there would be an acute scarcity of hair gel. If Pentecostals Ever Get The Kind Of Money And Power The Catholic Church Has . . . the only item on the church program would be "offering and tithes" If Christians Ever Get The Kind Of Money And Power The Catholic Church Has . . . they would give it back, counting it as nothing to be grasped or sought after, because they know their true treasure lies in Heaven. |
Oya don't tell him. I will not do it. ![]() Bruno is horrifying. So was Borat, but it was terribly funny too. I had to stop watching Bruno. I couldn't help guilty snorts of laughter at some points, but it's unbelievably vulgar and obscene. One thing about Baron Sacha Cohen, he is not afraid. Don't know the last time I saw a Nollywood movie. Zero incentive to.
Well, you're certainly not missing much. 2 of the movies had several shots with the black microphone foam stick in the frame as clear as day. Forget about cinematic integrity, what would it cost to simply move the camara or mic a few inches left? it cannot be that expensive or laborious .spikedcylinder:Tell us Spiked to tha cylinder, tell us! Sauron has been disparaging your person too long telling us if it ain't got nekkid, you ain't diggin it. |
gracias for the quick research. Tonye what say ye? (maybe I shouldn't have encouraged you to post outside of tithing topics afterall ) |
Kinkinatus:Exactimondo. Where are we on the Harry Potter franchise now? I've lost count. Somewhere in my distant past are the remains of a slight brush with Greek Mythology too. The Epic of Odysseus/Ulysses as it was known was excellent reading. I never found any movie to convey the imagery of the Iliad of Homer. That may be why I never really made the connection with the movies of today. The problem and beauty of reading is that it gives you the reader control and allows and encourages your mind to wander, imagine, build up and create the pictures in the theatre of your mind. Which is why silver screen portrayals of characters from literature scarely live up to our ideals. Which is why I'm rebeling against going to see the latest, modernized version of my much beloved Sherlock Holmes. I hope Clash of the Titans changes that. I mean in these days of CGI, they should do a better job than previously.Abi oh. But they should not overkill it. I think 2012 relied too much on CGI and forgot they had to also suppliment pictures with a substantive story. Well, with Iron man 2, am going to have to disagree with you there, I feel there it is promising and there were some threads in the first Iron movie which need development and may prove attention grabbing if handled properly. Example, the attraction between Iron man and his PA gets progressed. The new villains Whiplash and Black widow may provide more stunts and effects that the previous villains. Do re-visit your crystal ball after the movie comes, and hopefully your crystal ball may give us a different opinion.Lol, yessir. I will re-visit and retract should the need arise. I have learned to lower my expectations so that I will be pleasantly suprised and not suffer the fate of Terminator fans everywhere with the dissappointment that was T. Salvation. |
E-henn. You have dared me niyen o. Oya I am going to go and pose nekkid for something before six months is out. Mebbe some art class. One of my unfulfilled fantasies. You've given me the excuse.
Max, this is the talk of a woman who has toyed with the above possibilities in the past. Confess and free yourself.and btw, I need a phone number for certain Mr MadMax so I can report you. |
I am unwilling to do it ooooooo What was the first movie you saw this year? Watching Bruno. ![]() I haven't seen any movie officially yet, just bits and pieces of previously viewed Resident Evil Extinction, LOTR, MIB, Rush Hour, etc that've been re-running on tv past 2 days. I did borrow about 10 nollywood movies from a friend 4 weeks ago. I've watched 2.5, 7.5 more to go. I anticipate I'll be done with all of them somewhere around July. |
Spikie, it's not your kind of movie I don't think. Lol. She likes quirky scripts, and those tend to have nudity. Jane Campion, who wrote and directed this, also wrote The Piano and I think that movie where Meg Ryan bares it all and engages in graphic sex scenes a few years ago. Holy Smoke I saw convinced I would dislike. It isn't my usual fare but at least it got me watching to the end, a lot more than I can say for many movies. But it's true Winslet's been inekkid more than most. I'm trying to think of a movie of hers she wasn't baring it in. Still she's the only actress in history nominated for Oscars five times before the age of 30, so maybe she knows something we don't.
or maybe she knows something we all know but the difference is we are unwilling to do it? |
viaro:Kai! @Noetic, Viaro this is a call to arms oh! ![]() |
ancel: .Beneli, sorry for the offtopic stuff |
toneyb:Toneyb my dude! my brother the same x10 to you. I wish and pray this will be a fulfilled year for you and yours ![]() ancel:Lol, I am off to be shocked . . . beneli:It would be wisdom for many here on NL to heed this charge. With regards to the place of 'reason' and 'revelation', I would say that there is a limit to what reason can do for us in our attempts to walk with God. Revelation plays a great role as well; but i think the starting point is 'Faith'. Without 'faith' its impossible to even start on the journey. So for me it has been first of all faith, then came revelation and then reason. People should sort out issues of their faith first. Revelation will come to those who are earnest and honest. This very short quote is so loaded. I'd like to comment further but it would go off on a tangent. |
ancel:My brother I dey ![]() Beneli, I think Deists are examples of theists (who are exclusive to atheists), just like Christians are examples of theists. But then, you can be a Christian and a Deist at once, cos Deists believe in God on the basis of reason (not revelation) and Christians believe in God on the basis of revelation. I guess maybe you do the two?Nice way of putting it. |
celebritee:But that's the problem Celebritee, it is not just "one slowpoke's actions", they're running around in packs. Terrorism has become somewhat synonymous to muslim - whether it is the politically correct thing to say or not. No2Atheism:Lol . . . the one and only No2A! ![]() |
Epi:Congrats to all Nigerians. Once I was 'randomly' selected for extra screening while travelling out of Houston to Boston. I can testify it is not a pleasant experience and they stop just short of stripping you bare. I admit it was partially my fault, I had a small bottle of make-up and perfume in my carry-on that attracted some attention. But still . . . |
debosky:^^^ Lol let Mpele come and catch you ![]() |
toneyb: beneli:So he can put you into a nice, cute little box and tie a red bow on top . Right Toney? |
manmustwac:Lol . . . so na that one dey pain you pass? ![]() |
Kai not you too? It must be the hype that is turning you off, not the movie itself. Give in sister, resistance is futile! ![]() |
Kinkinatus:As of right now Rememeber Rocky? the gift that keeps on giving? they will milk that franchise until there's nothing left.Clash of the Titans, the more I look at the trailer, the more I like it. The Kraken looks really mean, and Medusa is proper menacing. 2010 must be a very good year for actor Sam Worthington with Avatar under his belt and he is looking very good in 2010 for Clash of the Titans. I'll put money down that it will turn out to be a blockbuster movie in 2010 too. I think am sold on that movie.I didn't even need to be sold, I have been fascinated with Greek mythology since my sophomore year in college lol. and I have kept an eye on Sam since Terminator. He can be a delightful alternative to the Pitts and Bales and Craigs Iron Man 2, am so looking to see that too (pardon my pun). Don Cheadle looks so wicked as war machine. I do like his movies. My crystal ball tell me Iron 2 will be a let down . . . its not often 2nd installments outdo or live up to the firsts. |
As much as I despise polygamy . . . it is his perogative and the women do not seem to mind either so that is their business. However, for the leader of a major country trying to claw its way out of the dark ages, it doesn't set a good example. But what would one expect from a country that is withering away with one of the highest AIDs infection rates, but yet, still saw it a priority to legalize prostitution in anticipation of the upcoming world cup? ![]() |
^hehe no problemo dude ![]() Kinkinatus:Yeah true. As I was watching the trailer it looked too dark, too deadly, none of the 'merry' aspect . . . if they wanted to improve on it, Crowe is not the right choice. Maybe the versatile Johnny Depp who can exhibit both sides of a coin in one face. At 4 installments, Shrek is getting overdone. I dunno if they'll have much new to bring to the table. As for 'Book of Eli', I'm not quite sure what to make of it just yet . . . from the little Denzel seems to also be another mis-cast lol. I know he did a fantastic job as a ruthless killer in 'Man on fire' but I'm not convinced to go see this one. |
Kai, this is tough . . . my brain tells me America my heart tells me Nigeria but I think I'll go with Billygoat: Billygoat:I concur 100%. I wouldn't think twice to risk my life for certain friends and family. |
And oh Happy NEW YEAR to my girl Chiogo, my fellow Bostonian in this land of aliens Happy new year to even you Peroxide, I fancy you much inspite of your evil laker affiliations, I forgive you. Go and sin no more. And A-40 I wish you and the Mavs much success lawd knows you need it esp after last night! lol and ditto to Bawo, you most of all def needs a turnaround. . . Chicago teams must be giving you sleepless nights. Happy new year to all! |
What is this world coming to? that orks and scrubs like Artest think themselves sexy enough to strip down to only boxers on national tv? Anyways, Celtics have hit a rough patch. 3 starters are down. 3. I hope they don't bring this injury bug into the postseason again. One good thing is that Tony Allen is getting better every game since filling in for Pierce in the starting line-up. That kid has a bright bright future if only he can just stay healthy. Rumor has it Cleveland is going to make a major trade before the deadline . . . who do you think needs to go besides Mo-i-disappear-at-crunch-time Williams? ![]() |
By the way, what do ya'll think about the ProBowl been moved to the week before the SB? the SB players will obviously not get to play (not that they'll care too much I'm sure). |

so many good books, only one lifetime to read them all.

I said plainly that CREATION explains existence, and 'reproduction' is only late in the scheme of things - it came AFTER the question of creation itself has been settled! If you have problems with that, please calm down and show me in the Bible that it is not creation but rather 'reproduction' that explains the ORIGIN of life.
