Prez sir, please don't assume me a right wing extremist. I get no joy out of seeing the downfall of anyone except the New York Yankees and LA Lakers smiley. The range of my query does not extend beyond these questions "is this a practice/culture at acorn? are these isolated cases? if the organization has been riddled with corruption and scandal after scandal is there a overhaul needed? I think those trying to tie this to Obama are simply out for blood because Obama obviously has no part or play in all this. Obviously.

FoodRe: Learn All About Suya Making! by JeSoul(f): 6:26pm On Sep 18, 2009
Gabry:
Spice for Suya

Ingredients:-

Three teaspoons finely ground roasted peanuts
One teaspoon cayenne pepper or red pepper, or red pepper flakes
One teaspoon paprika
One teaspoon salt
One-half teaspoon ground ginger
One-half teaspoon garlic powder
One-half teaspoon onion powder

Steps:-
Make the ground peanut powder:
Remove shells and skins from roasted peanuts, if necessary.
Grind the peanuts into a fine powder (briefly pound them in a mortar and pestle;
crush them with a rolling pin; or use a food processor).
Stir the spices into the powder, mixing well.
Divide the peanut-spice mix into two parts, putting half in one bowl and half in another.
Use one bowl to dip the meat and coat it, the other bowl should be used while the meat is being grilled.

Be careful not to grind the peanuts into a paste.
If the peanut powder is oily, wrap it in absorbent paper (paper towel) and squeeze for a minute or two.
For really spicy hot suya, use more cayenne pepper -- for a milder dish, substitute paprika for some (all) of the cayenne pepper.
Betta pesin! thank you girl! kiss I am going to try it this weekend.

This was not an incendiary scandal at all . . . this was nothing but fraudulent gotcha-journalism at its worst. The employees of ACORN involved in the videos have been fired and the authorities are taking it seriously.
"Gotcha journalism" or not, were some disturbing things uncovered about a handful of acorn offices/employees? That is the bottomline.

Of course the video guys forgot to tell you that they also went to a lot more ACORN offices and were not attended to, they just cobbled together edited videos from 3 offices and suddenly heavens are falling?
Wrong. It was 5 different videos from 5 different acorn offices. 1 of them so far claims to have been joking along with them. And as a matter of fact I did hear the journalists say they went to tens and tens of Acorn offices across the country and were infact turned away.

ACORN has been involved in worse before . . . but like pres_elect said before . . . no one cared because Obama wasnt president.
Perhaps you're right and perhaps you're wrong, I'll have to do my research on that. But does the fact it wasn't publicly outcried before mean we should ignore it now? because this may be a less serious scandal?

Foreign AffairsRe: Why Isn't CNN Reporting The Recent Acorn Scandal? by JeSoul(op): 5:34pm On Sep 18, 2009
Okay if you're saying they are reacting at "appease" their base that is totally plausible and I can agree with that on many levels. Yes there have been scandals, but correct me if I am wrong, they have not been this incendiary in nature have they? perhaps this is the worst of the scandals and they are reacting accordingly?
davidylan:
Tim Pawlenty came out yesterday with a press release ordering Minnesota to cut off all funding to ACORN . . . the only problem is that the state of Minn does not fund ACORN at all.
If this is indeed the case then he should be rightfully labelled a hypocrit. I don't have any problem with that whatsoever. IMHO Republican politicians = their democratic counterparts = all hypocrits. Perhaps our resident Minnesotan Tayo can shed some light on this?
TV/MoviesRe: Abeg Who Watches Fringe? by JeSoul(f): 5:28pm On Sep 18, 2009
ahh nooo waaayyyy . . . they should not let Peter and Olivia get romantically involved, that's too complicated to pull off. He should just hook up with her sister or the new FBI chick smiley who seemed to fit into the FD as little too easily. No shock. No nothing. Too too unrealistic.

They must bring back Charlie, I don't think it will sit well with the fans.

But girl how cool was it when Walter opened the door of the SUV with a make-shift slim jim he carved from the window wiper, went in the car, fiddled around, slammed the door shut - and Olivia came flying through the windshield! the second coolest thing I ever seen on TV! lol

davidylan:
no one is deflecting anything, you're just uninterested in seeing the issue from an angle that is not yours.

the videos themselves are irrelevant seeing as others have clearly pointed out they were made by affiliates of Fox news - hardly your idea of neutrality when it comes to ACORN. That is not to claim that their story is false though.

But the elephant in the room is this - would you even know what ACORN was if Jeb Bush was president?
Once again - does it really matter who or where the videos came from? Why have you refused to address the contents of the video? They are irrelevant? so irrelevant the Senate voted to cut their funding. So irrelevant the FBI is involved. So irrelevant Acorn has launched their own investigation & fired the employees. Yep definitely irrelevant.
Foreign AffairsRe: Why Isn't CNN Reporting The Recent Acorn Scandal? by JeSoul(op): 5:17pm On Sep 18, 2009
@jesoul,
in an age where people believe there are death panels, obama was born in kenya, he is a mus-lim, all news propagated from the right wing media and its cronies . . . any news item originating from fox news or its cronies has to be verified thoroughly. why wont those guys talk to rick sanches of cnn? not that their story is false, but it creates room for outlets like msnbc to really take their time to verify it b4 announcing it.
I dunno about them not wanting to talk to Sanchez, everything is all politics ain't it. But common prez we all know why this happens and stories get reported more on one network than another.

if it was the other way round, fox news wont report it asap.
My brother if you're looking for me to defend fox lemme disappoint you now. Fox is no better than CNN and should also be chastised when they also do the same. Infact if I were to choose, I'll take CNN over fox anyday. This just happened to be a story favoring the right - hence Fox is all over it. And if CNN wants to hold on to the claim they are somewhat centrist, then I expected them to cover it not completely ignore it for a whole week.

and i understand. remember fox said the march in washington was a million people. and others felt it was like 60,000 people.
Till today those of us who weren't there still do not know the number. Oreilly actually reported it as 90,000 or so. One guy who went there mentioned it was well over a million that the figure was announced on a heli PA. Who knows the truth? only the people who were there.

well, fox news has its way and msnbc has its way too. but forget msnbc b/c they and fox are about the same thing from opposite sides. cnn and the rest still had to wait to be sure b/c not all things from fox are facts.
Exactly! so the question is should we ignore it and shrug our shoulders when one does it and simply say "well the other one does it too?" or should we not call them all out when we see it no matter who it it?

journalism.huh? did fox tell u that the woman in the video u posted was just fooling the producers? did they tell you that police checked her out and found that she was just blabbing? journalism is alive right?
Good. Now we're talking about the videos. Yeah the "tisha" woman is saying she was just playing along and fooling with them. It is under investigation. But that leaves 4 other videos doesn't it?

so my dear, if i were u, i wont believe everything i hear so fast. reagan said, trust, but verify. how much more when i dont trust? hmmn wink
Thanks bro, and I certainly don't believe everything. My gripe is that it should be "reported" and then "investigated" and then "concluded" - this is how it should work. Not the other way round.

Foreign AffairsRe: Why Isn't CNN Reporting The Recent Acorn Scandal? by JeSoul(op): 4:26pm On Sep 18, 2009
pres-elect,
You're right news does have to be verified, I totally agree with that. I don't agree when you say the videos "originated" with Fox. They came from those independent journos who went thru one Breitbat internet news site and then Fox jumped on it - for obvious reasons. This is the information age pres, it doesn't take 1 week to "verify" news anymore.

davidylan:
We are blessed with the benefit of hindsight for a reason, it is impossible to discuss political problems of today completely isolated from what happened last week. If we say ACORN is bad then we shld ask ourselves WHY do we suddenly think so now when that same senate saw absolutely no problems with federal funding for it since 1994 (including 8yrs of republican control).
Hilarious. Why do we suddenly "think" acorn is bad? have you not seen the videos? have many groups both left and right not raised accusations against acorn in the past? Is anyone saying acorn hasn't done any good?

This is what I mean when I said you hardly address the issue directly but simply deflect and point somewhere else. The topic is about the recent scandal - not acorns history with the senate. I don't think you have even actually commented directly on the 5 videos.
and fine I will concede the $8 bill point, you are right and I am wrong. Now can we get back to the videos?

Has ACORN never had a scandal until 2009? Why is it so important now that we think CNN and all other media organisations shld make it frontpage? Is there an ulterior motive to all these sudden hunger for "honest journalism" when we have bigger issues like healthcare to worry about?
Please supply where I or anyone else asked to make it "frontpage"? thank you.
I believe the topic says "why is CNN not covering it" which they only started doing in the past 2 days when the story has been out for over a week.
Foreign AffairsRe: Why Isn't CNN Reporting The Recent Acorn Scandal? by JeSoul(op): 3:03pm On Sep 18, 2009
Aloy,
You musta missed my post where I dropped the link to CNN finally covering it. The point is the story was out for almost a full week before they (and NBC/MSNBC) paid any attention to it.
Foreign AffairsRe: Why Isn't CNN Reporting The Recent Acorn Scandal? by JeSoul(op): 3:01pm On Sep 18, 2009
davidylan:
1. There was nothing partisan in all i said - i guess for you every comment made that doesnt automatically toe the anti-Obama route = partisanship.

2. There was nothing in my post to suggest this was another anti-Obama conspiracy . . .

On the other hand i wanted to make others see the obvious elephant in the room . . .

- ACORN is NOT receiving $8bn in federal funding like you earlier commented (again an example of how bad journalism AND SENSATIONALIST REPORTING from folks like you have become that we no longer verify our facts before we make wild claims to whip up sentiments) . . . Chrysler (an auto company) recieved only $1bn from the federal bailout.

- ACORN has been on the federal Govt payroll since 1994, where was everyone?

Whether you walk out or not . . . the facts bear themselves out . . . much of this is simply trying to stir a tempest in a teacup.

Journalism has been dead for the last 20 yrs . . . i'm wondering why everyone is suddenly only waking up to that reality now.
I will even concede the 8Bill point to you . . . it is debatable & that is not the issue.

The point is almost everytime an issue is raised your counter is usually "where were you when Bush/republicans/insert-anyother-name-here were also doing this or something similar". Can't you simply address the topic at hand without pointing back at something/someone else?  huh

If it helps I apologize I haven't been on NL since the last "20 years" to lament about the dying state of American journalism . . . that was my solely my fault.

Week 2 predictions:

Its too early in the season to make educated predictions but that won't stop me  cool

Texans at Titans - lol . . . oh the laughing stock that is Houston. Has anybody seen Onyinye?
Saints at Eagles - who's starting for the Eagles? Garcia? I'm not sold the Saints are good just yet . . . I expect the eagles to hold serve at home.
Bengals at Packers - GB needs to address their O-line but I do not expect that to be much of a problem vs Cincy
Vikings at Detroit -  No self respecting team loses to the lions but I won't mind if the vikes go head and try
Patriots at Jets - I hope Brady and co are up to dropping massive points on their behinds
Ravens at SD - From what we saw last week, I expect the ravens to hand it to the Bolts.
Indy in Miami - Does miami have any juice left over from last yrs resurgence? I expect the Colts to win this one

Games of the week:
Pittsburgh at Chicago - I can only imagine what the stiffling defense of the Steelers will do to the errant diva Cutler.
Giants at Cowboys -  I think the Cowgirls are a fluke - Giants should take care of business on the road.

HOW TO MAKE SUYA!

INGREDIENTS
Meat, cut into cubes.
Ground hot pepper.
Salt.
2 sliced tomatoes.
2 sliced onions.
Ground kulikuli(Peanuts) (enough to cover the meat).
Mixed spices (optional).
Metal skewer for roasting.

INSTRUCTIONS
Mix the ground pepper, the salt, the kulikuli, and the spices together.
Put the meat inside the mixture and make sure it is coated well with the mixture.
Put the pieces of the sliced beef into a thin wooden or metal skewer. Add the sliced tomatoes and sliced onions inbetween the pieces of meat.
Roast on top of charcoal fire, barbecue maker, local firewood roaster or an oven.
Allow the heat to cook one side of the meat then turn to the other side.
Serve as a snack or as a side dish.
but this could easily be any kind of meat kebab. I'm most concerned about what exactly is in the spices that's used to give it its unique taste.
