Christianity EtcRe: Monies Taken In Churches, What Are They Used For? by JeSoul(f): 4:10pm On Sep 15, 2009
dgreatrock:
i have to start this thread because of the curiosity of many as to what the offerings and tithes received in churches/ministries are used for. if you have an idea let us know.

please no foul languages and dirty jokes.

thanks
Dgreatrock,
how dare you a mere albeit honest & probably devoted church attendee think himself to be in such a lofty position so as to query (notwithstanding in a humble fashion) about the the final destination of the tithes and offerings and building funds cajoled out of the congregation every holy sunday morning (and occasionally thursday evenings) in many business centers churches?  grin

Nah but seriously, church finances go to a variety of things:
-from the maintenance of the meeting place aka church,
-to the salary of the church workers (pastors, administrators, building managers etc),
-to the sponsoring of foreign missionaries, to the sponsoring of sister churches elsewhere,
-to the funding of special projects/events like community outreaches/drives/food banks etc
-to the assisting of families within the church that may be in dire need
-to the provision of any and other needs of the congregation that may arise
--and many many more different areas

. . . at least this is where biblically speaking such monies are supposed to go.

My sister thank you. You hear of these diseases and illnesses but never really think about it until it hits close. One of my closest friend is in the hospital right now, the doctors expect his mother to die any second . . . the only thing we can do is pray for a miracle.

We should all learn to take care of ourselves. Eat right, 'sleep' right, everything in moderation, exercise, go for checkups, love freely, enjoy your family, enjoy everyday cos you never know when will be the last etc . . . it is not guarateed to prolong a life, but it sure will go a long way in doing so.

-Buffalo fumbling the ball was a faux pas

-NE defense scrambling and coming up with the possesion was clutch

-Brady advancing the series and throwing for a TD with 50 secs left was super clutch

-NE defense preventing the Bills from getting within FG range was super duper clutch

-----lady luck was on the sidelines enjoying the performance cool

i think that it is very possible that israeli intelligence (mossad) executed the 911 operation - it is now widely accepted that there is no way jet fuel could cause buidlings with the type of structure that the twin towers had
But widely accepted by who? For every "expert" that claims the towers fell in a demolition-style manner, 2 other "experts" claim it didn't. My point is analysis of the video 'evidence' has become extremely subjective.

I watched a good chunk of the speech and there is no humility lost on him at all cheesy he's always been proud and arrogant so nuthin new. Even though he took shots at people it was better than those ready-made speeches that came off robotic and routine. His was original and from his heart - whether or not the contents were palpable and/or offensive to some.

hehe the football gods did not allow us to be put to shame and cause our enemies to rejoice in false victory  cool  they were salivating at the premature prospects of a Patriot loss but as clutch as the golden boy is, he delivered as he always has.

Doyin you'll have to wait till another time to take those jabs  cheesy

One woulda thot I won the lottery the way I erupted after Brady threw that TD to win the game but it was a shaky start to the season for him sha . . . but considering he's been out for a year this was a good showing . . . geez he even broke his own completion record shocked

bawomolo:
he should have taken a knee.
the pats getting lucky again. I don't see them doing squat in the playoffs this season
There's a fine line btw luck and clutch. Just give our new D some time to get used to the system and each other and give Brady 3-4 games to get back in shape - we shall be a serious contender.

13"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

The percentage of true christians who live according to the bible is much much smaller than 35%. Religion is not a popularity contest. Having more followers does not make the religion any more valid.

This is bad news for not only for the Bears but also for the NFL. You hate to see a marquee player go down esp in the first week.

A-40 you talk true o jare. Better WR's will not solve the problem. Cutler was so far off on some of the INT's he threw it was incredible.
Christianity EtcRe: The United States, Saudi Arabia & Gender Apartheid by JeSoul(f): 5:23pm On Sep 14, 2009
Deep Sight:
When i see the manner in which the United States makes much noise about countries with supposedly poor human rights records, but keeps mum about the gender apartheid and institutionalized denial of womens rights in Saudi Arabia, i am utterly disgusted.
Firstly, why should the USA be obligated to speak out about it? Quite often if America condemns an injustice, the rest of the world accuses her of meddling, if she doesn't they complain she remained indifferent because she stands to gain nothing. Most of the time America is damned if she does and damned if she doesn't.

Secondly, I think in a general sense, the world views human rights kinda seperate and different from women's rights. I know I do.

Thirdly, wasn't it recently in Sudan where some educated women were trying to campaign against head covering or something but a good portion of the traditional women came out against them? saying something to the effect of "we don't want these new modern ways"? Many times it seems they themselves are comfortable in the status quo and seem unwilling to fight for their own rights.

Is the oppression of women and Denial of their civil rights in Saudi Arabia something that arises from Islamic Teaching?
Well lets see, it cannot be a mere coincidence that women rights are practically non-existent in practially all Islamic countries can it? The evidence is overwhelming that Islam as a religion actively oppresses its women - systematically and unapologetically.

Blackspade,
the 5 Isrealis story is intresting . . . I tried looking further into it but aside from conspiracy theoristic websites I could not find any other info on it. Yet there are many holes in that report . . . them taping it does not indicate foreknowledge of the attacks does it? that they were happy and celebrating could simply have meant they were happy to see America attacked - nationality does not matter, many americans hate america. I dunno . . . the whole thing is just undecided
@Post,

JeSoul,

Bush himself was a pawn in the political game that unfolded around him. There are key players that were instrumental in the strategic and tactical plot. None had the foresight to imagine that a catastrophy of that magnitude will occur but they expected somewhat that a controlled level of volatile strike on the soil should be sufficient to enrage and elicit national support for a grand propaganda to push conservative christian ideology around the globe.

Go and check up on the following:

CNP - committee for national policy
NAC - A New American Century

CNP led the ground for the 1996 take over in Congress when Republicans under Gingrich became majority.
NAC led the ground for the installation of BUSH as President against GORE's electoral victory.
hmm so you believe Bush allowed it? but didn't know it would be carried out at such a "magnitude"?
Christianity EtcRe: Atheism . . . New Age Cults . . . Islam - One And The Same! by JeSoul(f): 4:47pm On Sep 14, 2009
3 things:

@Jagunlabi,
There is nothing "old school" or outdated or "left behind in spiritual evolution" about David's "ideaologies"  - they are infact biblical, rooted firmly in the gospel of Jesus Christ and followed by a silent multitude all across the world. Whether you like it, accept it or not - there are countless christians out there who walk the path the Lord Jesus paved for us as outlined in the scriptures. We just do so in quiet satisfaction.

@Posters,
Perhaps many of you may not personally like David, but the honest truth is that he is right and if you do not like what he is saying it is because you do not like the bible & God & Jesus Christ - and that is okay, really, it is your perogative afterall ain't it? smiley

Many of us peddal "religious tolerance" and "unity" but the honest truth is between Christianity & Islam & atheism there can be no compromise - the very foundation of our belief systems are in stark contradiction, direct opposition and are frankly irreconcilable on all levels. The only thing we can all do is while we are being direct and unrelenting and unapologetic about what we believe is to treat each other respectfully and with sincerity. I fancy a good lot of the people on the religion forum - christian, muslim and atheist alike - but make not the mistake of thinking I will ever shy from declaring what the bible teaches, for I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ, it is life and power.

@Topic,
quite intresting. I hadn't realized how indeed they all employ practically the same instruments of warfare against christianity. Very intresting indeed.

Kai Bawo wetin happen?  cheesy  Cutler no chop breakfast or lunch? lol

He coulda easily thrown for 7-8 INTs last night. Even Bratt would be envious. Perhaps it was the nerves & pressure that got to him but dagg even a Cutler hater such as myself was suprised at such a poor poor performance. Chicago fans will soon find out why Cutler with all his talent has not won jack. A-40 don talk am, you guys should be very afraid facing the D of the Steelers next wk.

But mad mad kudos to the GB Packs! Go Rodgers go! He looked very confident and can scramble even as the O-line let him down time after time (or was it becos the Bears D was superb?) Anyways, GB will be a team to be reckoned with this season.

I have always wanted to , but haven not had the chance to.

How easy is it to learn ?
Depends. I'm still a learner myself. Get a good teacher (or watch youtube videos) that teach the basics of a swing properly before one gets in the habit of doing the wrong thing. Takes a while to develop a good accurate swing that connects with the ball . . . its not about power or strength for the most part. But as I have played I have found that there are 2 reasons many women will not be able to play golf well . . .  lol cool

Matrix Reloaded & Matrix Revolutions
The one thing I recall vividly from the 2nd installment was the end. Was watching with a full house of my brothers and sisters and few friends and the entire overcrowded living room erupted in unified anger at the way the movie ended.

"Reloaded" wasn't user friendly. The scenes and dialogue were disjointed, difficult for the casual observer - which is most of the audience - to follow and understand. Heck there are still a few portions of it I still don't get - the gatekeeper? the other "ones"? the cycle of a new zion? the new Oracle? what? what?? whathuh  huh

Infact when Will & Jada hosted the movie awards few years back Jada joked she couldn't believe Will did "Wild wild west" and Will responded by saying "well the Matrix, no one understood it" lol. There were a couple really cool scenes though - the park fight, the highway chase - totally dope! But one major point of beef I had was the completely unnecessary addition of explicit/sexual scenes - the orgy, trancelike jubilation, Neo and Trinity etc . . . I think they may have suspected they didn't have a dope enuff movie hence felt like they needed to throw in the bone of sex to appease, surely, only the male audience. But I did very much like Jada's character in Revolutions, esp when she took over and piloted the lone ship - very nice and the little 16yr old who saved them by opening the gate - cool. Overall neither Reloaded or Revolutions came close to living up the incredibly high standard of the Matrix.

  My rating for Reloaded - 60%, Revolutions - 50%.

Vesc has murdered the review completely  smiley his analysis is spot on and I agree 100%. But so JK doesn't feel like I chickened out lemme add my 2 dollars.

The Matrix
Like my fellow enthusiasts in here have rightly noted The Matrix is one of those movies that stormed onto the movie scene, crashed the entire hollywood establishment and changed the entire landscape, setting a new precedent for movie making in so many aspects. The dialogue, the special effects, the characters, the wardrobe, the long flowing black intimidating overcoats and those mad cool sunglasses! lol The Matrix was cool - without even trying to be, without pretending to be, it just was. Practically every household on the planet knows who Morpheus is, who Trinity is and who Neo is - this defined the professional career of these actors.

There are so many scenes from the Matrix I love but a few that resonate include the part where Neo first tried to jump over the building and he fell flat on his face - the gun fight scene in the basement - the rescue mission to save Morpheus - meeting the Oracle - when he turned around to fight the agent - and the best part WHEN HE BENT BACKWARDS & DOGED THOSE BULLETS!!! -  shocked  grin was truly a sight to behold.

I think I have seen The Matrix no less than 50 times . . . just like Coming to America - it is one of those movies that will never get old.

My rating 10 out of 10, 100%.

Max, I want a list of films that made you cry. I wanna compare with my own. I no dey cry again o. Na when I dey small and impressionable I dey cry. I've since grown a cynical beard and a distrusting heart. I kid. I wailed while watching Little Princess. Bawled and sobbed and sniffed and wept and cried. I'll seek it out to see again. That way I'll know how far gone I am.
Lol this boy is funny cheesy  gosh I cannot even remember a movie that drew out tears from me . . . perhaps I am too far gone Vesc? lol

Daniel Day is upset that you took a project he literally adjusted his life to carry out with levity, JeSoul. Honestly, that guy alone can carry any movie. What a guy. He belongs to the age of the greats gone by.
Infact V I heard how far he went for the sake of that character and that was the main reason I  watched it. He delivered there's no question about that, my beef is with the script/storyline. Inspite of how good Lewis was, to me it did not overshadow the absence of a quality storyline. Infact I was so upset at the lame ending  angry what nonsense, the whole time it was building up to the death of the fake preacher? . . . seriously? Abegi jor.

It's like when I pay for a $15 CD and only get 2-3 quality songs of out 15 . . . I feel cheated. Performance only is never enough to me. That's shortchanging us the consumers.
