Amen oh, thank you my brother, all is well here by God's special grace.
Also I forgot to say thank you for your reply on the Assurance thread. I respected your wish to gracefully bow out, but I really really appreciate the effort and time you spent answering my questions. Be blessed sir and all that you put your hands to do.

Hello noetic16. I like that name smiley

TV/MoviesRe: The Movie Club by JeSoul(f): 4:36pm On Jan 20, 2011
300.

I watched this flick at the movies with a group of about 10 friends . . . so it was 10times the fun. Viera makes a great point up there ^ that the movie is more of style over substance . . . I can see why he'd say so . . .  but men, there are some cases where no substance is necessary to make it a great movie, the style and swagger was just that dope  cool

300 is the story of King Leonidas who (against the counsel of the oracle) leads 300 of his bravest men into battle against over a million Persians and their king Xerxes. The movie is shot using a chroma-key type of technique and is narrated with a voice-over from the only Spartan soldier of the 300 who survives.

This movie I don't think was intended to be an accurate historical recount of true events, so folks beefing over that need to chill . . . this was pure fantasy. The battle scenes were awesome, well delivered with an intensity enough to make the toughest marine blush, the portryal of a larger-than-life king by Gerard Butler I thought was simply electric - and his devoted wife Queen Gorgo was just spot on, if sexy married fire, she would be it. Honestly, I found no flaws in the cast and loved how well they each played their characters - from the mad friends competing to see who could kill more, to Xerxes' terrifying presence, to the Council back in Sparta. One of the movie's strong points I think is the dialogue. So many memorable quotes, and so so poetic, for me it was delicious ear candy.

My fav part of the movie, when King Leonidas, upset after the Persian messenger threatens sparta and insults his wife (common now, which woman will not find that appealing? grin) kicks the persian into the well while screaming "THIS IS SPARTA!!!"  grin how can anyone resist that? lol. And then when they meet up with the Arcadians, Leonidas asks "Spartans! what is your profession?" to which they all reply in unison bass enough to wake the gods from their deepest slumber "HAROO!!!" lol.

As a side comical note, were ancient Spartans really all that ripped?  shocked the assault of the (chroma image adjusted) six-pack abs was deliciously nauseating - if there ever was such a thing. Even the old men in the council and the women were all ripped. Dem. If you lack self-confidence 300 is not the movie for you to watch. lol.

Overall, 300 is a fantastic movie, unusual cinematic style, with a well-told story that is well delivered by the cast. I can watch it 300 times without getting bored. I rate 95%, anybody wey wan vex I got one word for you . . . HAROOO!!!!  grin

Dulcet, thank you for all these links and articles. Rest assured, at least one person is making good use of them.

tensor777:
You are into left-wing politics Jesoul even though you claim to be a born-again Christian. How does that one work. As for the nun Theresa what 's your business with her?
Plough your own furrow.
Hmm, dear Tensor, you must have me confused with another jesoul smiley. I do spend a ton of time in the Foreign Affairs section (discussing mostly American politics) and my friends there know me quite well for my unrepentant conservatism on most issues. I may support the occasional liberal viewpoint but overall, I'm an independent, with conservative ("right-wing"wink leanings. So I'm not sure where you're getting your information from because it is very wrong.

Furthermore and more importantly, who says that being "left-wing" is somehow incompatible with being a christian?  huh  Please enlighten me - on another thread though. I don't want to contribute to any diversions away from the subject of this thread. Thanks.

This is very interesting.

My knowedge of Mama Theresa is a shade lighter than pedestrian and pop culture has her depicted as the saint we should all aspire to be. It appears we have been sheltered from knowing crucial facts. Again, this is very interesting. If that was indeed her view on suffering - denying pain relief to the sick under the insistence that it brings one closer to Christ - then shocked  Misusing donations? openly supporting corrupt leaders? shocked

Are there any who'd like to speak in favor of the defense?

I have never found myself feeling hatred towards someone else . . . but this murderer who stole Bawomolo from us . . . I can't help but want to wish him the worst possible life ahead for his crime.

I am glad the police caught him. I can't wait to follow the trial and perhaps gain some small understanding or comphrehension of his abominable actions. Although, senseless murder seems to be the MO of black on black crimes.

May God be with Bawo's family at this terribly difficult time.

Toba, if you have any regard at all for me, I kindly ask that you please leave the matter and MMW alone. You've voiced your opinion, now pls let it go. I've asked you many times to let MMW be, and that we all see things through our own biases. Its not easy being a mod and we all have missteps. I really appreciate that you have my back though, but please ehn, leave it be and lets all move on. Or else . . . na to bring out my foldable koboko from my purse . . .

Uyi, thank you brotha. I saw your "religion pt 2 thread", hope you won't let it slip off like that?

Dulcet, I'm glad you like my teddy bears smiley. On the other issue, I think I used that textbook from Ehrman for a "New Testament" class i took in college. Good stuff.

And @all, I want to say that our dear mudley has given us a fantastic opportunity to return cursing with blessing, and to (tough) love those who hate us. I get to spend a bit of time in the 'public' eye here in my home, so this gives me good practice in taking shots smiley. But on the serious side, I really and honestly do wish mudley well. I pray that everything he puts his hands to do, will be successful. And that with the same fervor that he has used to curse me and others, may it be of the same degree and even more, with which blessings are pronounced on his life. He will succeed and his family and house will be blessed. I am hopelessly incapable of hate or even holding a grudge, lol, so I really wish our brother the best. And that he comes back and becomes a model NL citizen that we will all admire.

Let the people say amen smiley

^injuries are a part of the game eku. You can't avoid it. Which is why teams have to be built deep and robust, able to weather losing a key player for a stretch of time.

Chic2pimp, brother, I feel you jare. Van Gundy is something else. Sometimes I wonder how he's able to coach the team well enough to do as well as the Magic have done the past few years lol.

Christianity EtcRe: How Has Your Walk With God Been? by JeSoul(f): 5:00pm On Jan 17, 2011
nuella2:
Christianity is the earth walk of the new creation, after a man get born again, GOD leaves him here to , reconcile men to him, fulfill his purpose and win in the midst of challenges through his word. How has your walk with God been? I believe Christians in this forum, has great testimonies to share. How they have triumphed in the face of challenging situations. Your story could just be what will make other Christians remain standing assured in Christ today.

My walk with God has being beautiful, my parents never went to church, so as a child a wondered from church to church. Until some group of Christians shared the gospel with me, wow! i got born again. Then trouble started, my father threatened to disown me, stop paying my fees and the persecution at home was terrible, but i stood my ground, i told him i rather drop out of school than stop going to church. Today everybody in my family is born again. God is faithful.

In my early years in the university, I almost got distracted as a met a very wealthy man, who before i could say a word, bought me a car. Wow! Promised to take me abroad and on and on. what a temptation, but have being taught that am a seed of Abraham, i own the world, i KNEW i was rich already been rich was beyond owing a car,i cld not accept the gift so returned the car, another round of persecution started. Friends and relatives mocked me, cos they felt i was brainwashed, they felt God sent the man as a blessing. Months later the man left that city without a word, cos the police was after him. Christ! What if i got involved with that man?

Brethren, in this walk we collide with challenging situations like David and Goliath, but God is always faithful. The first job i got, i was given an official car. There is no hurry is life, don’t take any short cuts, follow him step by step cos faithful is he that has called you.

How has your walk with God been?
Wow Nuella, fantastic story of perseverance in the face of adversity. May God direct your paths according to His never-ending faithfulness. And thanks for sharing that!

Have you noticed a trend that the playoff bye-week teams usually do not do as well? It's something I have noticed. Taking a week off does more damage than good to me. The team is not as sharp or on point or in sync.

but mehn, I can't even be as sad as usual . . . Bawo's team is on the move! this is more joy than my team on the out. Imagine if they went to the SB and won it . . . that would be something for Bawo.

@mudley
i agree that you were banned unfairly and toba should've been banned to but then JeSoul (and me) do not have any power to unban people we can only recommend people who are breaking the nairaland rules to be banned. All she can do is send a PM to mukina asking her unban you which i believe she has already done.

But then that dose not guarantee that mukina will release your other I D and after reading your previous post i don't it very much. You could be expecting another ban instead.
MMW, your information is incorrect. I have repeated several times here Toba was banned. His ban was hourly just like Uyi and Inesqor. Mudley was permanent because he is a repeat offender.

Christianity EtcRe: Assurance Of Salvation by JeSoul(f): 8:33pm On Jan 14, 2011
wow Dulcet, that is an eye-ful smiley.

Dulcet7:
According to the Biblical accounts, Jesus died and resurrected. Jesus said he had to die ~ and in his conversation the purpose of this death was to prove the following: Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13
Jesus himself never said his blood or his death was in order to save them (this story began after his death) BUT Jesus was prepared anyway to be killed by the people he loved, for the things he believed in ~ and for the good he was doing in people's lives. His death was thus representing the extent of his love for us. Then the resurrection on the other hand would have been necessary to prove that he was actually an innocent man.

The many Pauline and Johanine accounts (their letters and gospels) in the Bible make attempts to draw parallels to the Old Testament practices of blood sacrifice and label it the "final sacrifice" that achieved what the blood of animals could not do
but in my understanding its not in this sense ~ whereas the OT blood sacrifices were a religious rite, they were markedly different from the form of this sacrifice. The person who makes an OT sacrifice understands what he is doing and his own will is remorsefully brought into subjection in line with the poor animal that takes the blame. When we sacrificed Jesus, we did not understand what we were doing, we had no remorse (until the sacrifice had fully expiated) and our will was NOT brought in line with that of this scapegoat - the man Jesus.

But also, I do not know if the Biblical God really asked the Jews for those OT sacrifices on a regular basis ~ I have strong reason to think Leveticus and Deuteronomy are forgeries. As for references in Abraham and Isaac and Jacob, I believe these sacrifices were not regular but were on demand of their God for them to show their dedication. It wasn;t meant to be a continuous, regular affair. The continuous sacrifices of animals was introduced to control the people and to fleece them when they had to buy the sacrifice materials ~ the same thing Jesus drove them from the temple for (I believe, contrary to the popular opinion that they were selling at expensive prices - where did that thought even come from, it's not there anywhere?  huh) ~ and nowhere will you read of Jesus doing a sacrifice for atonement for himself or his disciples. It was a corruption that had eaten into the Jewish religion.

That's according to Biblical accounts. But I believe the Bible is heavily symbolic and often we get too hung on the very words that are meant to guide us in truth. The Buddha likened some religious questions to a man shot with an arrow who looks around to see who shot him, then said the man will die with his injury as he is asking the not-so-important question instead of just treating himself. So I am not arguing whether the death and resurrection actually happened or not, because either way it is laced in eternal truth and serves as an example to show us that Perfect Love can never be put down.

I believe the story of the death and resurrection of Jesus is a symbolic example of trial by ordeal, as instituted by the Code of Hammurabi since 1700 B.C.
If anyone brings an accusation against a man, and the accused goes to the river and leaps into the river, if he sinks in the river his accuser shall take possession of his house. But if the river proves that the accused is not guilty, and he escapes unhurt, then he who had brought the accusation shall be put to death, while he who leaped into the river shall take possession of the house that had belonged to his accuser.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_of_Hammurabi

An accusation was levelled against Jesus when he claimed to be the perfect embodiment of love. So symbolically, mankind subjected him to the Hammurabi code and he was crucified. If he never rose, then everything he ever taught and did supposedly as Perfect Love will become a joke. All mankind were His opponents ~ full of wordly desires ~ but represented by a quorum of Israelites ~ would have taken-possession of everything i.e. that would be the end and we would never hear of him again ~ perfect love will no longer be the walk of salvation. But Justice had to speak forth for Jesus so he escaped unhurt. In turn, we are now compelled to be crucified with Christ - putting our own worldly desires to death (just like how Hammurabi's Code would have made Jesus put us to death) and we are now also compelled to let him have our "houses and belongings" => THAT is what it means to give your life and all to Jesus - he will own us and we have to let him own us by walking towards salvation in love. He is the victor of the Hammurabi Code concerning his own claims of being Perfect Love.
Thank you very much for taking the time out to share your understanding. It is not too different from what I imagined would be your view. As a christian I obviously differ with you on obvious points, but I can certainly understand how you've reached the conclusions you have.

I like that Bhuddha quote part. It reminds me of a fella here called imhotep (you will really like him smiley), he posted this quote that really had an impact on me a long while back

A religious belief is a signpost pointing the way to Truth.
When you cling to the signpost you are prevented from moving towards the Truth because you think you have it already.
With regards to Jesus, the OT (Old Testament) forms a foundation that he built upon ~ to show a more excellent way that actually works. As he said, he didn't come to erase or replace it but to build on it. In regards to us, I believe the OT is a resource to see how Jesus saw the religion of his day and how he related to that religion, THEN compare that to how people generally practice or practiced religion in our day and KNOW how we will also relate to it. Just like Jesus, we are not meant to erase or replace religions like Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and so on but rather we are to build on them with Perfect Love.
Understood. Thanks!

I do not know too much about spirits. However I believe spirits almost certainly exist but I believe they are not legally meant to continuously operate in the physical realms - and only at such intersections of the two realms as God allows. Men can also operate on such intersections by using their spiritual counterparts to carry out the functions in a form of "remote control" - this is what happens in prayer I believe. As for possession (by spirits), I believe what really happens is that the spirit bullies/influences/domineers (with the person's permission or not) the person's spiritual counterpart and the person experiences the wickedness in this realm. Sometimes the spirit would have stopped the bullying but this person will still carry the influence around ~ like a sour taste that lingers in one's mouth after eating lemons and already spitting the offender out.
Thanks.
  - I have just one more question (for now smiley )

Where you are now/what you believe about God and faith, how did you arrive here? study, personal reflection, meditation, influence from others etc. Thanks!

ps. I'm not usually online over the weekends so forgive if I don't respond sooner. But I really appreciate your taking the time to answer my bugging questions. Godbless and have a fantastic weekend.

BREAKING NEWS - LEFTIST ACTIVISTS CALL FOR BOYCOTT OF TARGET STORES.

In what has become another twist to the Tuscon tragedy, a group of DNC Activists who call themselves Liberals for the Restoration of Toning Down the Rhetoric (LRTDR), have now called for a National Boycott of the popular chain store "TARGET".  Speaking through their secretary of media affairs, Mr Baby~Fart, LRTDR said it is unconscionable that any civilized people, group or entity be allowed to use that word in a free society.  According to Mr Baby~Fart, the word "Target" reminds people of the tragedy in Tuscon and could inspire people who may or may not have been inside a Target Store to commit unprecedented attrocities.

Furthermore, the Group insisted that TARGET must be held responsible for any act of cruelty on animals, especially dogs.  According to Mr Baby~Fart, Target Stores' mascot is a dog with a bullseye clearly drawn on the the left eye.   This is no doubt a ploy and a secretly coded message to trigger-happy Tea Partiers to turn these beloved animals into moving targets.  Asked if there is any proof or evidence to support these assertions, Mr Baby~Fart retorted that proofs are only a means of filibuster by the right-wing conspirators.  "Who needs proof in the face of such a serious charge?  What matters is not proof but the seriousness of the accusation!"
ROTFLOL  grin  grin  grin  This is just too hilarious. It is so well written and delivered that thought it was a genuine article at first until I saw "mr baby~fart" lol. Tayo thanks for the good laugh this morning. I hope the humor & sarcasm is not entirely lost on those who need it most.

Isalegan, you're a very interesting character. lol.
Why couldn't I have learned something useful like making cute earrings or doing hair - you know - something really worthwhile that actually benefits society.  Not reading about Trotsky Tolstoy Machiavelli and all them dead European philosophers, damn it!

hehehe
Lol. I for one could've certainly patronized your hair-making skills.

All right.  I see where you stand.  I could never be a Republican supporter at all.  But I've watched their politics long enough to be weary of the Democrats as well.  I tend to support individuals who demonstrate a backbone.
On that I am with you. I'm not down with the Hillary Clinton's political views . . . but what she has shown me in her tenure as secretary of state has really earned my respect.

Congratulations Jo. I must really commend the fact I do not see you engaging in insults or fights and even though your views are unpopular with even myself, I admire the way you're able to always remain civil. Congrats again.
