Freddonance:I cited an example and you are now trying to twist my points into an unnecessary argument. I know there are different types of seizures and i also know the different classes of drugs used in their management. Like i stated before, there are many different types of drugs in use today and they all have their interactions. The pharmacists know these interactions better! The problem with Nigerian physicians is that they think they know it all and with such mindset they kill many Nigerians. That's my concern! |
Freddonance:I stated that as an example. Besides, it's easy to do a google search on just that. There are many more interactions! |
worlexy:You were making sense until the last paragraph of your post where you displayed a gross lack of knowledge of the roles of pharmacists in healthcare delivery! You should have just done a little research on the roles of pharmacists in those two countries you cited as focal points and in other developed countries of the world. For your information, Pharmacists do not only dispense drugs in those countries, they are involved in direct patients contacts through ward rounds and counseling. They check physicians' prescription errors, drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, drug-disease interaction, and other possible interactions that could occur in the course of pharmacotherapy. Ever asked yourself why Nigerian healthcare system remains abysmally poor despite government's investments and medical doctors being at the helm of affairs since Some of the reasons can be traced to other healthcare professionals like pharmacists not being allowed to put in their bests in patients care. How i wish that Nigeria could make autopsies compulsory before those who died in hospitals are interred. That will reveal so much about how Nigerians die avoidable deaths from drug errors and improper use of drugs when they go to hospitals.Take a scenario such as this: An epileptic patient who is suffering from lower respiratory tract infection at the same time, he goes to the hospital and the physician prescribed a combination of erythromycin (an antibiotics for his infection) and then carbamazepine (an anti epileptic). Assuming there is no pharmacist around to correct such wrong combination, do you know that the patient would come down with carbamazepine toxicity with the resultant organ failures leading to his death This is just a tip of the iceberg!! Several of these interactions occur both in inpatient and outpatient settings and has led to the death of many!Haven't you heard of cases where a man left his house to the hospital just to get treated of minor ailment only to die in the hospital following administration of some drugs prescribed by the physician Drugs are very dangerous substance that can either save a man if judiciously used, or KILL him if wrongly used. Pharmacists know drugs and their actions better than physicians as a matter of fact. Knowledge of pharmacology which physicians have is not enough to make rational drug decisions since the important concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics are not discussed in details in most pharmacology textbooks, hence pharmacists study them further in clinical pharmacy. Some physicians i.e clinical pharmacologists may have some knowledge in this regard, but mainly for the purposes of research and teaching, besides they are very few. So, the role of Pharmacists in hospitals cannot be overemphasized. If not, the developed nations you cited in your post wouldn't recognize them as key stakeholders in their hospitals to the extent of appointing them as CONSULTANTS. N:B, I'm a pharmacist in training and my interest is not in hospital pharmacy but in pharmaceutical manufacturing industry. However, the truth has to always be stated regardless of our biases. |
Happy birthday to you, lovely woman! |
Myketuale:I'm not implying that it is too bad a course to study, but you just have to know that it is not a lucrative course as far as Nigeria is concerned. Nevertheless, if you really have interest in it, then you have got to have a passion for teaching and researches as well. After your first degree proceed immediately to MSc and PhD. Don't start wandering about in search of non-existing jobs. You can take teaching jobs in private schools and tutorial centers and also look out for scholarships to support yourself while studying for your postgraduates. Don't listen to anybody that would start telling you that you can work in pharmaceutical companies (pharmacists will so use you eeh). Decent pharmaceutical jobs may be available, especially in quality control, but you will be required to have atleast a masters and the pay is usually not very fantastic. Besides, you'll have graduates of other sciences like chemistry, industrial chemistry, microbiology etc competing for that same position. I had first hand experience of how things are in the labour market, so I'll not advise anybody to study biochemistry unless they have passion for the academia. |
Godson201333:You're just a hater! We have a good number of pharmaceutical manufacturing industries in Nigeria who are doing well despite the hash Nigerian environment. A good example is Emzor with a wide product range in the market. More industries are still coming on board if only your government could do the needful especially in the power sector. I chose pharmacy and I'm very happy i did. |
writerights:A federal university (name withheld for a reason). I never had passion for lecturing. I'm now in pharmacy and more fulfilled! |
obowunmi:I'm a graduate of biochem (2-1). I can inform you with every authority that the course is not lucrative in Nigeria. It should only be studied by those who really have passion for research and teaching. Most of my course mates in biochem have left the field entirely. Though an interesting course, it's values end mostly on papers. |
ritababe:Microbiology and biochemistry are in the same boat. |
ritababe:Both microbiology and biochemistry are in the same boat. |
obowunmi:You are looking for whom to deceive shey?? |
By sacking the minister of health and appointing an unbiased healthcare administrator who is not a medical doctor. By sacking all the Chief medical directors of our public hospitals and appointing unbiased managers with qualifications in Management. By creating separate directorates for the different professional groups rendering expert services in the hospitals e.g, directorate of medical services (to be headed by a physician), directorate of nursing services to be headed by a nurse, directorate of pharmaceutical services to be headed by a Pharmacist, directorate of med lab services to be headed by a medical lab scientist etc. All the heads of directorate will enjoy equal rights and privileges and will be answerable to the Manager. The different professional groups should be given the opportunity to grow in their fields and earn a decent living just as what obtains in the international community. |
MrBigiman:A clinical pharmacologist is mainly a researcher, hence the requirement for a PhD. Period! There's no conflict between the roles of a clinical pharmacologist and that of a consultant pharmacist btw. |
These NMA guys are so shameless!!! There is no residency training in clinical pharmacology anywhere in the world!!! The qualification for the position of clinical pharmacologist is a PhD in clinical pharmacology and the individual must not necessarily be a medical doctor. Even a BSc pharmacology graduate that has done a PhD in clinical pharmacology can hold that position. The role is to give a guideline and coordinate clinical trial of drugs. Btw, there is no conflict between the role of a consultant pharmacist and that of a clinical pharmacologist. |
Babybush:I tell you! No be small pain ooo The guy must be shitting blood in his pant right now! |
The evil wishes of NMA on other healthcare professionals will not come to pass. Bloodsucking devils who have been killing innocent patients in their shrines called private clinics. |
CarrilT:Yes! That is why JOHESU is asking for equity and fairness, not necessarily equality. It is NMA that should rather mind their business. |
ultron12345:Hehehe...you obviously don't have any other thing meaningful to say! Lolzz @ pharmacists are ready to come and work in hospital! A pharmacist would now leave the drug market where he is making millions to come and work in government hospital?? Bro, tell another lie! I have many med doctor friends who are earning #50k per month in private hospitals and are seriously begging to be employed by government. Many med doctor consultants are in private hospitals too and earning peanuts. Place an advert today for med doctors and you will see the multitude that will apply both from within and outside the country. |
ultron12345:Do you people have sense at all!! ![]() It will be easier to sack all the doctors if they go on strike than sack JOHESU members! JOHESU is a multitude compared to med doctors who are fewer! |
Same court that gave a judgement which the government has refused to obey ![]() Okay nau! Come and drag them from their houses to work... |
Sack Chris Ngige and Isaac Adewole now!!! FG, time to act is now!!!!!! |
Wizzy why nau?? |
This is terrible! |
ultron12345:Then everybody should be placed on the same salary scale including med doctors, cleaners, gatemen, nurses etc. In fact, let every worker in the health sector earn the same salary going by your suggestion. Let's see who would cry more! |
It is high time the ministers of labour and health got sacked! Enough of the modern day slavery!! Enough is enough!!! |
If you see a lady with common sense, please show her maximum respect because common sense is a scarce commodity among ladies. Thank you! |
SweetJoystick:At least he can employ the guy and pay him salary no matter how average the pay is. It's better than roaming the whole streets of Lagos in search nonexisting jobs. |
And one unemployed guy may just be sitting near him without knowing that he is sitting close to a man that can transform his life forever. |
Anybody who understands how marriages work in igboland would know that that Nina girl is the least lady Miracle's family and even Miracle himself would welcome as wife in their family. Nina showed herself to be a cheap whoree who can easily get laid by any man that catches her fancy. Getting laid so easily despite being watched by many. That his former boyfriend should thank his stars that he dodged a bullet. |
Slimmybeaurry:If only wishes were horses! |
I wonder how you guys manage to type all these senseless posts and click the submit button without feeling any iota of SHAME. |
I pity those patients!!! Radiations are not something you play with!! That quack may just be loading cancer into those patients. In a few years somebody would come down with cancer and as usual the devil will be blamed. What a country! |
