Salient point my brother... we are in the same camp. I don't see Rohr changing anything. Hence, as I would always say, "don't expect surprises from Rohr" TheSuperNerd: Of course, our problem is not Ighalo. It has never been Ighalo. But I insist we need an upgrade in that CF dept once this Afcon is done.
The Problem is Rohr's understanding of the players' strengths and weaknesses. He lacks the know-how, insight, bravery, inventiveness and Innovativeness on how to mastermind this fine pool of super talents he has gathered and make a Mega-force outta them.
Father Tiko and Otto Gloria from ages past will salivate at the plethora of attacking options we have because those guys were attacking masterminds. If Klopp came down to Africa and was asked to coach a team from among Senegal, Egypt or Nigeria. I can bet you he will choose the Super Eagles because it takes a coach like that to see visions of attacking wonders and offensive masterpieces that Nigeria's pool can achieve compared to Senegal's and Egypt's. Mane and Salah may be Klopp's players but Klopp will most likely go for Nigeria because of our wicked offensive deep pool.
Rohr lacks this Vision and foresight Klopp and his likes has when it comes to utilizing attacking pools of players. He doesn't know what to do with these talents that is why he always starts the ones that suits his conservative bull crap only getting it right in a few other roles as he doesn't have any choice but to start those ones.
Like I told you on my return... I recall I said something akin to....
"I don't know if we would win the Afcon but we have the quality. BUT THE KEYS ARE IN ROHR'S HANDS."
I know why I said that. Having all the quality is not what will give us success in Egypt. It is how Rohr handles the quality. Rohr is the man on who our 4th Afcon title hopes rises and falls.
Our problem lie in the man, Rohr and his perception of the team.
All your points are well noted. |

I thought so at first. But realized that was clearly a foul after taking another look. Danielnino00: The way he took the free kick self it was like he was really aiming for a deflection on our players....
But then I don't think that was a foul.. Ndidi won the ball from the player fairly. he just fell down on his own... Madagascar with the Ahmad factor may end up going farther in this tournament than we expect... |

you guys are not happy just because of the outcome of this match. But the plain truth is we have not been convincing in the tournament so far. Bunique: I really feel the coach decided to use this match as an experiment. |

Madagascar has been convincing since the start of the tournament. They are a better TEAM (team play) clearly. raindodger13: No, I even critiqued Rohr in my earlier post. I was talking to a guy that said Madagascar is a better team. |

So you see, even many of us cannot really point to players that are CLEARLY ahead of the ones we have now. Ajayi is part of this team. We have been talking about the GK situation for so long that these days people have given up on finding a better substitute abroad. We have GK coaches who have not done enough. So my sister it's more of a coaching issue than selection at this point. I think rorh has done at least 80% well in terms of selection but he remains clueless how to make these players complement themselves on the field of play. We cannot choose to keep on singing Rohr's praises of how he helped us qualify for tournaments. You qualify for tournaments to perform in the tournament proper. In this regard Rohr has always failed. Or maybe my verdict is too early. But at least tactically he is bereft of idea. Either way i'm fine, he get's a tactician as an assistant or get's the boot. DrLikita12: I think the Argentina game was his best. He's a good man manager and he's given us some results (qualifying us for AFCON after two missed tournaments, Worldcup with a game to spare...we haven't really needed our calculators with him) but like someone here suggested, he needs a tactician to help him if he's going to stay. He seems to have problems reading the game and making changes. The midfield needs work. Another AM, a DM/CM (Semi Ajayi?) and definitely a goal keeper. We might need another CB although I don't think that is as urgent. I think this should be Mikel and Ogu's last tournament for us; probably Akpeyi as well, Uzoho seems to be struggling. Cohesion is a problem at times. There are days we do really well and some days you just wonder...I admit that the coach has a bigger role to play with player selection than the players. |

Has Nigeria played the kind of football you like so far? Let's assess the team at the group stage. Icon4s: I am not writing the team off yet.
Complaincancy affected the entire team. The number of changes were too many.
The team was overly complaisant. We are better than this.
We don't have credible midfield options. Time for Ogu and Mikel to take a bow. We need fresh Supply of young midfielders.
Ogu and Balogun were responsible for that defensive error. Nightmarish first half for Balogun.
Again, Rohr went to Egypt with surplus in natural wingers. That team doesn't have a natural supporting striker. And so we are condemned to lone striker setup all tournament.
I always try not to judge a team with it's performance in its last group game if they had qualified before that game.
Onwards, we take the matches as they come. |

0-0 will have been a fair enough result. But will that have made Rorh look good to you? raindodger13: For a team that scored from a honeymoon gift and a deflected freekick. |

Rohr has aways had bad assistants. naturecures: Madagascar a debutant schooled the eagles, the never Changing underdog as described as Rohr.
I have a question for NFF.
if Rohr cannot make good substitution don't we have a technical crew to think for the coach?
When will Rohr stop seeing Mikel as an attacking midfielder. is it a must? |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:58pm On Jun 30, 2019 |
The worse thing is his intention was to go blazing on defenses during this AFCON. He simply doesn't have it in him darkelf: To think he took 7 attacker, one would expect a goal fest. But no.......disappointments again. Just like the WC....much promise but aerial disappointment.
I think Rohr has overstayed his welcome. At our level, we shouldn't be content with a coach that just qualifies easily. We should be challenging for titles.
The Algeria we beat 3:1 has improved a great deal that I forsee them beating us silly should we meet |

No be just today oh. Based on what I have been seeing in this team. I have always said don't expect surprises when it comes to Rorh. the same thing played out just before and during the WC. You cannot give what you don't have. On quality players, what positions do you think we need reinforcement? Hasn't cohesion been a problem? There are only a few games I've enjoyed under Rorh. one of them is the Argentina friendly. I saw a fluid instinctive game and quick reaction. I think when we keep the possession with useless passes we start to get confused as to what to do with the ball. DrLikita12: Probably not based on what we saw today, but we do need players to fill different positions and we definitely need a lot more teamwork, or maybe cohesion is a better word. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Joebie: 7:47pm On Jun 30, 2019 |
Exactly, I do not think Ighalo is our problem. It's largely a collective problem, and it has taken the coach too long to figure out some basic things as regards the strength and weaknesses of his players, and how to blend them together to form an efficient unit. Some observations: 1. You can count on Musa for those magic one-on-one moments, but don't count on him to give beautiful passes. He rarely does. Ighalo is starved from passes, so he relies heavily on his fighting for the ball, and jam body which should have worked on one or two occasion on this game but for our opponent happening to be Ahmed Ahmed's bride. 2. Kalu is not fit. Else he is the number one player you can count on to perfect his crosses. 3. Chukwueze just needs a little tweaking to combine with other forwards, and with his help we can wreck most defenses 4. Onyekuru is an upgrade of Musa, but less experienced. Has similar speed and dribbles, added to that he brings more variety to his scoring boots, need I add header? But that's all at the club level. 5. Onuachu will thrive with a fit Kalu playing his A-game, and Simon on the other side of the wing. 6. When Mikel's AM game is OFF, use him as a holding MF, don't take him off. 7. That brings us to Etebo. I would rather play Mikel as a DM. Those mazy runs and ball holding are unnecessary. It takes away from our TEAM game. Should there be any player I would like to hold on to the ball more, it's Iwobi. And Iwobi is clever enough, he knows when to release the ball, with brilliant service to Ighalo. 8. Osimhen, I can't say much. I haven't seen him much. 9. Ogu is slow. If he is not scoring a long ranger, why use him? He doesn't do anything that other DMs can't do better. 10. Collins helped us during the qualifiers, but there is no doubt now that Aina has cemented his place in this team. I wouldn't start a fit Collins ahead of him. 11. As regards our CBs, we know Balogun is slow to react. Not a good idea to have Balogun when playing against teams with a high pressing game. 12. Ekong is dependable when not on his bad day. 13. Omeruo is made for AFCON. no be today he start 14. As regards Iheanacho (shirt #14 coincidentally). His problems goes beyond Rohr. In summary, I think Rohr has failed to get the chemistry right. Modified On Siasia, you hit the nail on the head. Siasia will give you good attacking football. TheSuperNerd: After Mikel's horror show as AM in the Burundi game I was hoping Rohr will see the bloody truth. Play Mikel as your deep lying CM!!!! "Mbanu," says Rohr.
Now to this game, I told you it was obvious Ogu was gonna sit deep with Etebo to play mobile CM. But Rohr f**ked that up too. We who analyse this game keenly know Ogu should be DM in this set-up but Rohr mixed it all up. And you are right, player roles also contributed to this loss.
Rohr doesn't seem to know how best to fit in players and into what system. He may have gotten a few picks right but in other key areas he has flunked. This is why he cannot get the best outta Iheanacho... And now a Chukwueze. Rohr lacks attacking invention and bravery. It is nauseating. Siasia with this team may concede against Madagascar but he won't serve us this rubbish loss. Siasia will beat Madagascar blue black and green!
Nonsense and Rohr!!! |

I don't know which comes first. But with what we have, it's not impossible to play as a team. The coach gets the blame after tutoring this team for almost 3 years or so now. This coach cannot do better even with more quality players DrLikita12: Madagascar played as a team, we didn't. Like I said, quality players who play as a team. Regardless, after AFCON we are going to need to replace a few players and look for options for other positions. We're likely not going to be sourcing players from Thailand's second decision. |

I don't care about individuals. It's not like Iwobi is a star. For once these players need to play instinctively as a team. It's been long overdue. DrLikita12: Today many people will start to appreciate Iwobi. Omeru is our best defender in this tournament. Imo we've seen enough of Mikel this tournament. This midfield combo is not it. We need to do some serious work after AFCON. Some new players are needed. |

it was evident in the first two games. I watched the Burundi game and said the first games are always difficult. I didn't watch the majority of the Guinea game, but from reports we struggled to carve out chances. Then this.. what are you expecting in the knock out stages? Hopefully after this tournament is over we will all be in the same camp that Rohr cannot take our football forward. He has done his best -- assembling a young team. TheSuperNerd: Whether we like it or not, this game right here is the shock of the tournament.
I don't care if we go far or not but losing the game is criminal especially with Chukwueze, Osimhen and Onyekuru on that bench!!!
You wanna keep making changes and you could not rest Etebo and Musa to play the Ndidi-Mikel-Iwobi midfield trio and have Chukwueze and Kalu on both wings or even Chukwueze and Onyekuru.
You cannot rest Ighalo and give the ever hungry and Never tiring Osimhen a chance.
I am sure that starting lineup predicted by OGN yesterday or so which I analysed would not have failed to score in this game or even lost it. I am certain. |
