Barbiturate: Baba, it's when you get into trouble and they help you, that's when you will know police is your friend.
Some years back when I drove someone's car on bolt, I picked this lady from phase 2 Lekki, she was going to "bourdilon" I paid 300 at Lekki Ikoyi link bridge and when I got to the round about, the car stopped. Noticed it was fuel, cos the gauge was faulty. I begged the woman to chill for me to buy fuel, she refused and told me to end trip. I ended it and it came to 1200 or so. She said she will never give me 1200 cos I didn't get to her destination. She brought out 500 naira and I told her to go with it. The police guys at the round about came and asked me what happened. I told them and they told her to give me 1k. She refused. They said they would take us both to the station and they will make it a case. She eventually dropped 1k and they told me to take it.
When I took bike to buy fuel, I didn't have any gallon. I met a guy at the filling station that gave me a 20/25 litre keg. After buying the fuel, he followed me on bike to collect his keg. After putting the fuel in the tank, I gave him 800( the change with me) this guy refused and said his money is 2k. We argued and the police guys at the round about came again. When they heard what happened, they told the guy that if he doesn't collect that 800 Sharp sharp, they would collect it and I will leave here free and nothing would happen. The guy collected the money angrily and left.
I went to them later and thanked them. Told them I don't have cash on me again. They said I should not worry, that I should go n fix my fuel gauge One thing I know about police is that, they hate it when you try to teach them their Job. Police people are very considerate. I prefer make police arrest me than any other road official lastma the worst of them all. Let me share my experience on the first of January 2022, so I was going to Apapa from mile 2, so I had to follow one-way bridge that leads to beger car depot, Naso police officer stop me. Police: can I see your papers and your licence Me: well-done sir, how the work dey go, abeg make una hold this one(₦200) make I dey go abeg. Police: Oga Ur licence and papers pls Me: I gave them, everything correct. Police: Oga come and open your booth Me: ok sir came down and open booth. Naso this police see about 10bags of rice 5kg each ( I normally distribute to elderly people every year) Police: so you carry international rice for local bag. Me: Oga check am Na, I just buy this rice for market yesterday. When they saw that no other offence to trap me with, they now came back to the beginning. Police: Oga why you pass one way Me: I dey go Apapa and them block all the road so Na here dey close to me. Police: but Oga you for go follow Alaba suru Na Me: no vex abeg Na this place near me pass and No vex happy new year. Police: if I arrest you now una go say police wicked. Oya find us something Me: ok sir. ( Squeezed ₦400 to his hand) Police: Oga u get mind oooo, Na 400 naira u wan pay police for one-way. Me: happy new year sir, abeg help me manage am. Police: which soap you use bath, your juju dey work ooooo Me: no be juju oooo Na God. The truth is that no other road official will try this with you. Don't even try Ur luck with lastma . Emphasis on lastma, those people are pure evil. |

Good evening everyone in the house, veterans, new drivers, ants, hoodlums and lazyD. Below is to share my experience, and also motivate whoever needs motivation. So last year I was in the lookout for investing my excessive time and money into a business that could at least yield profit in addition to the money am making from my handwork. I went online, did several research and that was how I stumbled on this thread. Still contemplating in my mind about investing in this hustle or not, I read stuffs from different monikers here both the gbas gbos, the advice the complains and everything helped me made an informed decision. In particular cheerfulgiver (those dashboards kept coming in) , deedee44 (dropped a quote that gingered me) and pearl 1910 (helped me in decision to buy my manual car). Without saying too much, i would want to encourage whoever wants to invest in this hustle (drive for yourself) to please go ahead and do so.
My advice below( not for everyone oooo, but for hustlers like me, who have small amount of capital to invest)
If the sole reason you are buying a car is for e-hailing and to maximise profit, pls don't let your budget exceed one million naira (you will recoup capital quickly) Breakdown on how to spend the one million naira ( look for a good manual car not more than 700k, then 100k - 150k for tune up, the remaining money for any unforeseen circumstances) Emphasis on manual car is because Na weytin I Sabi I go show person. People complain of the stress about driving manual cars, I tell you for free it's no big deal.
Also I want to say my opinion about choice of cars in this hustle, because often times I see people asking which car to buy, I tell you for free, it doesn't matter if it's a corrolla , Honda, Benz or Skoda Octavia. The only thing that matters is buy a good car ( sound engine, good transmission, 1stbody, neat interior) you are good to go. Mind you this riders don't care if your car is manual or automatic, all they care is move them from point A to point B safely in a clean car.
So many things on my mind to say but then, I can't type it all.
Anybody with a question, feel free to ask and I will answer to the best of my knowledge.
Happy new year |

peeps4u: The right reply from driver should be "Who are you?"
How do you order a ride and call a driver and the next thing is "where are you?" At least start with "I ordered a ride.........." Most times the case of "where are u" mostly occurs in the inhap message. Not frequently on calls |

Godfather10: Some drivers are petty and plain childish, l think it might be low self esteem At the bolded is true. This business is formality, The rider already made a request (ordering for a ride) and as a driver u already accepted the request. The next step should be straight to business. Where are you! But then we are wired differently |

Felicity0001: Courtesy demands you open a formal conversation with a salutation, the question "where are you as a means of opening a conversation without any form of salutation or something like "hi", hey" "whatsup" is rude and passes a wrong notion to the receiver at the other end.
We as Nigerians need to start remodel and restructure and renew our minds and attitudes towards people and everything if not I see no future for thus country.

tunlapapa: It's kinda stupid as the app that connected both the driver and rider shows where the driver is on his/her App.
Is it not clearly shown on their app? Because someone asked a silly question doesn't mean I have to answer stupidly.
So the best way I answer is, I am close by/ around the corner/ few blocks away. True.... Drivers need to calm a bit, Dealing with This riders needs patience |

yusufdayo1: ANOTHER SARS IN THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT. Yesterday the 7th of December 2021 I was returning from Ogun State to Lagos in my car. At Oju Ore some plain cloth men blocked my way and ordered me to park. I lowered my side glass to know why I should Park. Unfortunately I had forgotten to lock my door. Before I knew it they were all in my car. They said I changed lane while driving and that was an offence. I couldn't remember changing lane even if it has become an offence to change Lane in a free flowing traffic. They asked me not to worry that they will simply caution me if I have not been cautioned before. They asked the one in front seat to go with me to confirm if or not I have been cautioned before and the others came down from my car. The man started speaking so sweetly to me that I couldn't suspect him any more. He told me whence they check their records and it shows I have never been cautioned they will book my plate number as caution and let me go. He took me into Oke-Ado local government premises and we drove behind it into a cleared plot like an abandoned mechanic workshop with a pit facility for wheel alignment and balancing. Immediately about four men rushed out and surrounded my car. They asked the man who brought me if I gave him tough time on the way and he said NO. They took my key from me and the man that brought me left the scene. They told me they will give me ticket of N150000 to go to Abeokuta to pay before retrieving me car but because I cooperated that one of them should take me to the POS where I should transfer N50000 and take back my car. I simply took my bag from the car and started leaving and they blocked my way and asked me where I was going. I told them I was leaving because I don't have N50000 in my account. I made a quick call to our brother the Police commissioner but he didn't pick. They ordered me to bring my wallet for search. I told them there is nothing to search that I have only N10000 in the wallet. They asked me to bring the N10000. At this time I had started to feel unsafe. I brought out my wallet and incidentally I had N12000. I gave them N10000 but they insisted I must give them the whole N12000. So I gave them the N12000 just to see if I could leave the scene. So they asked one of them to take me out through a small gate manned by two men. As we were approaching the gate the Police commissioner called me. They asked me to ignore the call and leave the premises. I told them it was the Police Commissioner and I cannot ignore his call. I deliberately put it on speaker so they could hear. The Commissioner asked me what the matter was and I narrated to him. He asked me to keep cool that he will asked the DPO to storm there with his men. On hearing that both the one in my car and the two at the gate fled. I waited at the gate for about five minutes thinking of what next to do. I decided afterward to forget about them and drove home. It has cost me N12000 and stress to get this experience to share with you so don't be the next victim. Lessons to learn are as follows: (1) Always lock your doors when driving (2) Always have your door glasses up if you are using a/c. Wind it down a little to speak to unknown persons outside the car (3) don't follow any plain cloth person to any office no matter how sweet his tongue may be. I could have raised alarm if I were not deceived by his sweet talks (4) don't follow anybody to any local government premises. (5) the Commissioner said that from the recent Court judgment in River State FRSC has no right to impound any vehicle not to talk of non paramilitary persons. A word is enough for the wise. Pls, share this post to as many platforms as possible for others to learn from. I have paid the price for you. I have signed this post so you know it is not a fake news. I understand the risk but I care for you. Bro. Ray
Copied This was exactly my experience at somolu. Never again. Am breaking the next persons leg So help me God. |

My first encounter with local government toutsSo yesterday, I got a request on 1.9 surge at ago-palace road to trolley supermarket yaba. On getting to trolley supermarket, rider asked if I will be willing to take her to leisure mall Surulere. Me as a sure guy, I followed pear1910 advice and asked her to update the trip instead of ending and requesting again (based on 1.9). She didn't spend up to 4mins in trolley supermarket so we continued the journey, on our way I made an emergency diversion due to heavy traffic, that's how this guy's stopped me and deceived me into following them to their office that they just want to check if they have warned me on that route before, that I will be freed if my plate number does not show in their office. That's how we drove there ooo, I entered local government Naso dem lock gate, before I could park and get down, those mudafuckers don write receipt 20k say make I go pay for upstairs, Naso I take a deep breath sighs!. Rider then asked me to end trip, Naso I end trip money Na ₦9,500 To cut the long story sha, rider is a very nice person she wanted to negotiate they price and pay, so I asked her to back off that I have a card to play. Then I called my guy around that somolu area Me: hello guy u dey Lagos? My guy: Johnny bravo! yes, wetin xup? Me: you dey around Ur area (somolu) My guy: no, I no dey. But wetin xup? Me: them arrest my car for somolu oh My guy: who? (With para)Me: local government touts My guy: wetin you do? Me: I no do anything oh, dem deceive me reach here come say make I pay 20k. My guy: for this somolu Johnny bravo no worry u no go pay shi Shi. Me: (in my mind Thank God ooo) My guy: u don follow dem talk about money? Me: no ooo Na dem just write 20k ticket My guy: ok no negotiate anything ooo I go send person come der now now. 10mins later the person arrived and I noticed those touts just dey carry hand up say tuale baba tuale baba, I just remain calm hoping say Na my saviour be dis. Next thing, he called my number, I met him and explained to him he said no case he just told them am his brother, naso them leave me free of charge oo with no vex ontop. The guy escort me commot for somolu Naso I give am 3k for transport oh. Carried rider to leisure mall free of charge cos she's a nice person. Getting to leisure mall rider shock me oh, rider transferred my ₦9,500 complete, still reimburse me 3k cash wey I give that guy. Na so I drive go yakoyo go swallow pounded yam.

It’s not easy driving esp in Lagos with all the road constructions everywhere. I tried driving today cos it’s Monday and there will be mad surge but I was getting short short trips request, the only long trip I got was to load two drums inside my trunk. Immediately I saw the way the two Abokie’s were carrying the drums, I just started my car and was going home the rider open mouth?
So its not only you some days go just off you, you can’t drive everyday 24/7 and not breakdown (you or your car) Just read this now! What happened was that he probably had a fall out with his former partner and had to drop the vehicle (which explains why he had to jump bus from Oshodi to Epe).
He's been on the search for another partner, which also explains why he piped low for a long time (vacation in the Bahamas)

Barbiturate: Mr Bazz, you have 3 cars or so, and you still drive, has it made you poor or less human? You're still a big boy!
My former neighbour has suit shop at mandilas, with a sales boy. He drives occasionally when he feels bored at the shop. He's a big boy.
I don't deliver to anyone. I drive when I have the power. Last week Friday n Saturday, I didn't drive. This week Tuesday and Wednesday, I didn't drive. In fact as I type, I'm with a friend at a bar, gisting. He works with Coca-Cola( Sales). He called and I decided to close for the day.
Not everyone driving is poor. I don't need to mention some other things I'm into.....and I'm open to opportunities. Chasing the bag is not attached to a particular hustle. If I find my dream job with the salary I want, it still won't stop me from driving during weekends. If I also find another thriving business to invest in....I'll do so, and I'll still drive when I want.
Some people with cars on e-hailing and who still drive and get paid by their drivers are far better than most guys in 9 to 5, with clean shoe, clean suit and tie. To each his own! If you stop driving because you got a job or you started business.....it still doesn't mean you have arrived!
I'm not bragging nor throwing jabs.....I'm only making a simple point. Man like Barbiturate (ikejamanism)..... Ur face show Ur shoe shine. See as gbas gbos dey go on intelligently & smoothly like Budweiser beer, I don't want to mention names but if na that Felicity now baba go naked fight Feli feli I come in peace ooo |
