Its unfortunate and ironic that candidates who flaunt crowds of supporters in hundreds of thousands in open stadiums, have fear of a microphone and a few people in a Hall.

The ruling party is telling the people to look at thieves on the rostrum and the people are telling the ruling party to look at corpses on the ground.

You should be ashamed of yourself too, how many times have campaigned for other corrupted government officials with jets to be investigated, former governors with their salaries can not afford to own a jet but we see most of them with jets.

If they're serious about this fight against corruption everyone should be investigated not selective, the reasons why people like the CJN still have a lot of support is why now, before his appointment they normally carry out checks on them how come all this was not discovered then.

They can't take Nigerians for fools, I if they want this country to move then the right thing should be done. Don't come here and praise one side and curse the other side
No govt not even US or the best economy in the world will fight his own people even if they are corrupt. If the PDP is pained with selective investigation, then when they were in power they shd have done same so corruption can reduce. How do we tell the south that after several years of not having the CJN position, a corrupt individual pocketed by Wike and the south south govs is the chosen one. Let him be prepared to leave because PDP is wiling to use him and Odili's wife to scuttle justice after elections just as the succeeded in Rivers canceling all APC candidates all because of wike.

PoliticsRe: Poll: Stop Harassing Opposition Leaders, US Congress Warns Buhari by Joyrise: 3:29pm On Jan 19, 2019
Mikora:
The United States Congress has warned President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the harassment of the opposition political leaders, following recent perceived crackdown on some political figures in the country.

The warning by the US Congress is coming on the heels of a N156 million fraud allegation against former Vice-President and Presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) by the federal government.

The UN Congress warning is contained in a bipartisan resolution urging the government of Nigeria, along with Nigeria’s political parties, to ensure electoral accountability and transparency in the upcoming February election.

A statement made available to THISDAY by Zachary Seidl of the US Congressional office, said the resolution, which has been adopted by the US Congress, was introduced on Wednesday, by Rep. Karen Bass, a top Democrat serving on the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa, along with the Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Elliot L. Engel, the top Republican serving the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Africa Congressman Chris Smith, Nigeria Caucus Co-Chairs Representatives Steve Chabot and Shelia Jackson Lee, and Representative Gregory Meeks.

“The upcoming elections in Nigeria, Africa’s largest democracy and economy, are critical to the future of the nation. Reports of President Muhammadu Buhari’s apparent crackdown on non-violent protests and harassment of opposition leaders are extremely concerning, as well as the ongoing violence that has been perpetrated by extremists, particularly in the Middle Belt region. The violence must be stopped, along with any subversion of the electoral process. The Nigerian government must see to free and fair elections, which this resolution calls for,” said Ranking Member Smith.

They urged President Buhari to copy the smooth transition in 2015 from the ruling party to the opposition, as their commitment to the strengthening of democracy in Nigeria.

“I am proud to be an original cosponsor of this legislation, which reaffirms the United States’ long-standing commitment to strengthening democracy in Nigeria. In 2015, Nigeria became another democratic role model for countries on the continent, showing that a credible electoral process could result in the peaceful transition of power from an incumbent to the opposition. Regardless of the outcome, my hope for the upcoming presidential, gubernatorial, and National Assembly elections is that Nigerian politicians, citizens, and the electoral commission will build on the successes of 2015 to further consolidate democracy in Nigeria,” said Chairman Engel.

The Congressmen harped on the imperative of conducting free and credible elections. “It is critical that Nigeria remain a role model in its region for democratic institutions and work to ensure free and fair elections. There can be no democracy without full confidence in the results of an election, and it is vital that there is full transparency so that February leaves no doubt as to the outcome,” said Representative Meeks.

According to Representative Bass, “It is in the best interest of the United States to maintain a strong bilateral relationship with a politically stable, democratic, and economically sound Nigeria that can play a leadership role in the region and the continent more broadly.

“A credible, transparent and peaceful election this coming February would further consolidate democratic gains achieved over the last two decades. Nigerians are deeply committed to democracy and ensuring transparency in electoral preparations, which would build public confidence in the electoral process. This resolution sends the message that the people of the United States will continue to stand with the people of Nigeria in support of peace and democracy.”

Still on US-Nigeria collaboration, Representative Chabot said, “As Co-Chair of the Congressional Nigeria Caucus, I appreciate the importance of a strong bilateral relationship with Nigeria and applaud its citizens for their commitment to democracy.

“There is still work to be done, however, to ensure that Nigeria’s upcoming elections are transparent, peaceful, and credible. Our resolution lays out the necessary steps to achieve these goals, and urges Nigeria to conduct elections free of violence. Conducting high-quality elections will strengthen our bilateral relationship, help consolidate Nigerian democracy, and be an example to other countries.”

President Buhari almost slumped at the Kaduna rally for his 2019 re-election yesterday, few days after a similar incident played out in Kogi State.

According to political columnist, Prof. Farooq Kperogi, Buhari who had a couch as his aid this time is showing signs of 'dementia'. He wrote as he shared the video;

This happened today in Kaduna during APC's presidential campaign rally. In this video, Buhari slumped helplessly onto the couch. Recall how he also fell in Lokoja. I feel sorry for this man. His motor skills are weak, which is another tell-tale symptom of dementia

Ebullience:
Former Vice President and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has not travelled to the United States of America (USA), his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Paul Ibe, has said.

Ibe told our correspondent via a telephone chat Thursday afternoon that online reports which stated that Atiku had travelled to the US were a figment of the imagination of the authors.

“You know what the social media can do. You know the social media for what they are now. It is not true. His Excellency hasn’t gone anywhere,” he said.

The clarification came following an online tweet from the Publisher of Ovation magazine, Mr. Dele Momodu, who shared the web link of the online report. See his tweet below:

PoliticsRe: APC Warri Rally: Buhari Has Foreseen His Defeat - PDP by Joyrise: 6:30pm On Jan 17, 2019
onubijoe:
January 17, 2019

Press Statement

APC Warri Rally: Buhari Has Foreseen His Defeat - PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organization (PPCO) notes President Muhammadu Buhari’s voluntary handing over of his Presidential candidacy at the APC Presidential campaign rally in Warri, Delta state, on Thursday, and surmised that he (Buhari) has foreseen his defeat and already switched into a handing-over mode.

The whole world watched as President Buhari, apparently overwhelmed by thoughts of his defeat, ended up declaring the APC Governorship candidate in Delta state, Great Ogboru, as the Presidential candidate.

President Buhari told his audience, “I have this pleasure of handing over this flag of honour to our Presidential candidate”, while giving the flag to Great Ogboru.

It is clear that President Buhari, worried by the shunning of his campaign by Nigerians, mistook the Warri Rally for the May 29, 2019 handing over ceremony that is four months ahead.

President Buhari is already in the mood of his May 29, 2019 handover of mantle of leadership to PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, following the national consensus to return the PDP back to power in the February 16, 2019 Presidential elections.

President Buhari had continued to display that he did not have the intention of seeking for a second term in office. It is evident that he is only being compelled by the cabal in his Presidency, who the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, had confirmed are manipulating the President for their pecuniary interest while the nation suffers.

The PPCO therefore calls on all Nigerians to note that there is no need casting any vote for President Buhari who has overtly shown that he is not prepared for the election.

Signed:

Kola Ologbondiyan
Director, Media & Publicity
PDP Presidential Campaign Organization

Your use of the word "lacuna" is wrong please. Lacuna means void, empty space or gap. "There is now a moral lacuna" is what you should have said. The CJN is not supposed to have a moral lacuna in the first place.

However, he should step aside, because he longer possess the moral lacuna to preside over cases involving corruption at the Supreme court.
Exactly the reason the writer raised the issue. Just that the timing is a bit wrong. But its better late than never because such person can not give right judgment in corruption cases. May be real reason most corruption cases by FG has been lost especially saraki's several cases. So politician can deposit dollars into his foreign account without public knowing about it.

The Executive Director, Anti-Corruption and Research-Based Data Initiative, Mr Dennis Aghanya, said the Presidency has no hand in the petition against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Reacting to insinuations that the petition was sponsored by President Muhammadu Buhari, Aghanya told one of our correspondents that he also took Buhari to court in 2011.

He also said the CJN had already owned up to the allegations brought against him in the petition.

Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone Saturday night, Aghanya said, “Did you not know that I once took Mr. President to court in 2011? I used to be one of his aides but I took him to court.

“This is a petition by an NGO, what has Mr. President got to do with it?

“People are just trying to avoid a major issue. Our concern is to unveil irregularities.

“People should not try to politicise the good work we are doing.

“The person the petition was written against owned up to everything. In issues of this nature should we be sentimental or do we face facts?”

Aghanya added that he will convene a press conference on a yet to be determined date over the development.

https://punchng.com/presidency-has-no-hand-in-petition-against-onnoghen-aghanya/
That is the point. The person in question has owned up. So y the shout about policizing every thing to get support of the CJN at the election. The writer of the petition has come out openly to say he did. PDP should face election and how to get people to vote for them and not tell the govt how to run their duties or who to appoint until they win and get to power again.

Whoever writes the petition is immaterial. What matter is, is the man guilty of the charges which will be judged in the court. Don't also forget that Wike has the control of the judiciary especially the supreme court because of Odii's wife and the Estate his building for them in PH and office buildings. So PDP will hardly loss any corrupt case at the supreme court or election case.
