Never you classify Nigerians as such. In a time where you hear of MEND, NPDVF, Ombatse, Boko Haram etc, taking arms and fighting the government hands down for however frivolous their reasons may be. This is hardly the hallmarks of a gutless and cowardly people.
you seriously believed those clandestine miscreants were actually the people? you think it was a people versus Gov agitation? bros, wake up, those movements were mere political movements, they were Govt fighting the Govt.
The Niger delta Agitation had a people's face in the era of Saro wiwa, the groups you mentioned up there were a mere subset of the Govt itself.
Nigerians are gutless nannies to say the least.

It takes the wise to know that ASUU have been shifting the goal post when the game is on ever since. First, it was earned allowances. In fact, that was the main reason the wise was declared. Consult July 1st 2013 newspapers for reference. Since, that didn't hold much sway, to gather sympathy, the issue of 2009 agreement and full implementation was brought on board, knowing fully well that FG cannot fully implement it. After much tussles, the president met with ASUU and new proposals came. Next, the unfortunate death of Prof Iyayi. ASUU blamed FG and says it will not call off strike until he is fully buried. However childish it may sound but this caused a real row in ASUU circles. In further to stall and sabotage the efforts, new demands on the president signature and co was brought up when a representative of the FG has signed the document. The most annoying of all, demanding that salaries must be paid and immediate disbursal of some billions.
This shouldn't be a problem for a sane Govt, Local content law says 70:30, so the FG can still get 30% foreigners to fill the position of recalcitrant sorting infested lecturers.
University of Ibadan was at its best when the VC was a foreigner, why cant history repeat itself? These present crop of lecturers have proved countless they have nothing to offer the dynamics of the Nigerian realistic stage, however unpleasant and job cuts , a lot of indirect jobs will be created from the rigorous research exercises of this foreigners.

We don't need Nigerian VC's, Nigerain Deans of faculties or even Nigerian HOD's, they should be neutral academicians all over the globe who will place our comatose institutions on a path of glory, technology wise, philosophy and humanities.

the likes of Okonjo iweala who unfortunately happens to be one of the best this administration has to offer had only her Basic education here, she was not taught by our sorting lecturers in higher studies.

Just one question, if graduates are unemployable and as it is popularly said "half-baked". Who are the chefshuh?

I see those things and I am a student too. But Rome wasn't built in a day, it is a gradual process. Come to think of it, ASUU played a great role in the decay via strikes and non-performance. Know the real enemy.
ASUU should cooperate with FG in tackling this mess and not arm-twisting the government.
Pre independence when the University of Ibadan was still university college Ibadan, were there complaints of half baked graduates? so why do you have it now? the same sorting, striking lecturers destroyed the foundation of these institutions.
I reiterate that our Universities need a state of emergency (thanks to ASUU who brought it to the notice of the FG), the FG should at managerial level replace the ASUU lords with foreigners, to chart a new course for our institutions.

It also makes ASUU happy to know the very students whose feelings were not considered when decisions that have a strong effect on their future negatively is made is supporting them on their selfish course and mission to dis-stabilize the already fragile nation.

Thanks, but the country comes first before any union.
which students? semi touts and near tabularasers? do you think that any Nigerian Student fully realizes the enormity of what ASUU is doing with their future? if they had the least inkling, most of them would have taken laws into their hands or agitate at the very least, but as usual, ignorance rules in all facet of the Nigerian space.

Even the APC media and their e-rats here on nairaland opening their stinking mouths did everything to justify the action of Fashola when he sacked Lagos doctors for striking. All of them now suddenly support ASUU because they see it as an opportunity to run down the federal govt. And we expect Nigeria to progress with these tribal, religious, ethnic, political sentiments beclouding our sense of reasoning?[/size]

What will it take the FG to bring in Indian and Chinese experienced lecturers? The FG is just being silly, Indian and Chinese HOD's and VC's will place this country on the path of technological development.
We don't really need the ASUU to drive Education forward in this country.
By the way, Singapore and Malaysian professors are pretty good, that way, sorting will end.

We are simply not sincere with ourselves. We practice politics of religion and ethnicity and until majority of us change, there is no hope. It will take at least a century to clear the mess we find ourselves today.
We don,t love our so called Nigeria, but strongly in love with our religion and ethnic, which unfortunately is the bane behind our under development and backwardness.
Until we affirm and decide to exude the lyrics of our national anthem and Pledge, hich I doubt will happen anytime soon, we shall continue to have backslid as a country without any defined course to chart.

Besides, zik didn't make any Igbo VC! the white men handed univ of Ibadan to capable hands, coincidentally igbos.
zik wasn't even clannish as Ahmadu bello and Awo.
He usu told igbos those days to imbibe self reliance and competition; and he was more of a nationalist/Africanist-Zik of Africa.
.
About the multinationals, Awo and Gowon deliberately schemed igbos out of shareholding and bereaucracy thru d 20 pounds stuff and outright marginalization.
If Igbos were allowed to have their millions and their pre war positions, u and i knew wat the situation will be like.
.
Again those oil/banking/civil service were handed to yorubas while hausas took the armed forces n politics.
The result is what we have till today: yorubas being more visible in multinationals and Hausa in army/ politics.
Though the statistics are getting better these days.
.
The lesson from this is that yorubas can rise ONLY when the igbos are already flat on the floor.
On a good day, u can't even compete.
Even after everything, the wealth distribution among igbos remains the best in the country and Ibadan/oshogbo appears more war torn than Enugu/owerri.

ujoinme: Dude was it not the same amaechi that threaten the FG with fire and brimstone if it did not share the ECA to states? get your facts right! the FG did just what Amaechi and his faction of NGF asked for from the FG and now they are crying wolf.
during amaechi's first NGF tenure, all the governors sought for an increase in state revenue because jonathan in a desperate campaign bid has just trippled the minimum wage without due consultations with relevant stake holders. The resultant effect of that desperate move was a huge overhead on the states and LGA.

All the governors agreed and took the FG to court asking the court to interprete section 66 or thereabout of the constitution which categorically states that all the revenue accrued to the FG is not for its use but should be shared amongst the three tiers of govt.

Before the court could decide, the FG decided to settle out of court, the FG now shared the ECA, part of its own share of 1b usd was rebranded SWF with kolade as chairman of its re investment comittee.

Amechi is saying that the money doesnt end there, same applies to all the monies (tickets) accrueable to the FG, on this Amaechi is right.

Our 2012 budget is pegged at 76usd/bbl but on oil sales alone, Nigeria was getting between 100 usd to 110 usd for the period under review,

Amaechi is saying that a new ECA of 110 usd - 76usd has accrued overtime which the FG did not consult the states on its fate, rather iweala is saying that she took 5b usd from it to augment a shortfall in budgetary allocation, that is very wrong and it contravenes our constitution

on whether there was a shortfall within the period, to be fair to iweala, it is absolutely true, because Nigeria's oil production of 2.5mbbls dropped to 1.9mbbls due to oil theft which happens not to be Amaechi's problem anyways.

Truth is; Amaechi knows the shortfall couldnt have affected budgetary allocation to the tune of 5b usd and i agree again with him.

What i believe happened is that iweala is hidding behind a slight shortfall to divert money.
From the NGF election, jang did not win but Amaechi so if Iweala decided to consult jang's minority faction on a
matter of national importance, then Iweala needs new advisers.

I believe so because the SURE P programme which she claimed she used it to aurgment was clearly paid for at the gas pump by Nigerians,
though i am convinced that money doesnt exist, the whole subsidy charade was a huge scam, matter for another day.

While Amaechi is nailing iweala, i will like to ask Amaechi where he invested his own share of the initial ECA sharing? Because the FG has an SWF and SURE P from its own share.
Politics › Re: Rivers Govt Replies Okonji-iweala On Missing $5B From Excess Crude Account by jpphilips(m): 9:27am On Nov 24, 2013
take dat: Is Amaechi a member of the Jang led NGF? Is Jang elected to govern Nigeria? Each State is a stake holder, Plateau cannot decide for Lagos or Rivers likewise Rivers cannot decide for Plateau. The ECA is not a FG account, it is a Federation Account. The President cannot unilaterally make decisions to deduct from the ECA to augment the shortfall in revenue simply because he is incapable of curbing crude oil theft. The problem is that there is no synergy, and you can't lay the blame solely at the feet of Amaechi, the President himself is guilty.

If you guys want to attack Amaechi, I am less concerned but he raised genuine questions!
i dont really understand how mentally lazy most Nigerians are, it is apparent that you are one of a few who really understood what the thread is about.

How can one country be packed with so much m0r0ns? Is this country cursed??
Nigeria doesnt deserve a democracy, there is a high chance for m0r0ns to unianimously elect their fellow m0r0n to pilot her affairs.

DaLover: You are right when you said that private people own refineries in other climates but it doesn't change the fact that refinery is a strategic national asset in Nigeria.
Nigeria's economy is resonating around oil and refining is one of its life wires, also, do you phantom the national crises that ensue when there is shortage of petroleum products?

The end of the road like i told you before is that the people who can afford it are likely going to be foreigners who don't have your country's interest at heart, even some indigenous companies who may afford it will source funding abroad.

Also consider the position of foreign politics, immediately the US sanctioned Iran's oil, all the Allies of the US complied, that means that if Iran didn't have NIOC (being their local oil company) their oil business has ended which you and I know is the main stay of their economy.

that is what will happen to you when you privatize all your critical national assets.

let me remind you that NIOC (National Iranian oil company) can be likened to our NNPC, today it has become their saving grace.

Privatization is not better than JVA and PPP, NNPC holds majority stake in SPDC, while shell (the private company) is the operator, that way, they bring in their world class operation standard, state of the art technology and for over 55yrs, they have ensured Nigeria is exporting oil.

It is a silly economic policy to sell off ALL your critical national assets in the name of privatization.

Under a US sanction, all the foreign companies will halt operations, now when you have foreign companies in charge of Power, foreign in charge of Aviation, Banking, insurance, foreign companies in charge of refining, foreign companies in charge of oil production, foreign companies in charge of ordinary water, what do you have?

just one sanction and all these companies pack up or there is a melt down like the 2008 saga, Nigeria will literary shut down.

my model is this; privatize telecom by bringing MTN but keep Nitel
Privatize power but keep NEPA, NEPA can Own a majority stake in the power sector while Manitoba brings in their world class experience to keep it afloat.
privatize The downstream by licensing Orient and co but keep PRCN, you never can tell what will happen to the economic dynamics of the world.

What about competition? when you licensed MTN and murdered NITEL, nobody competed with MTN till Glo arrived, meanwhile NITEL could have done the same job and increased the competition further leading to lower tarrifs earlier than we had it.

lastly, do you know that when Lehman brothers liquidated, they equally fried their over sees assets, you don't want Manitoba canada to liquidate and Enugu disco remains in darkness forever do you? It is not in anybody's interest to have so much foreign exposure, the 2008 meltdown should serve as an eye opener.

Jonathan's administration is known for "quick fix" approach to national issues and that will be the problem of the next generation just like he is cleaning up the mess of our past.

What about the issues surrounding the PIB on balkanizing the NNPC, have they been solved before selling off its subsidiaries? those are the real issues, the problem with Nigerians is that they don't know how bad Govt policies affect them till it touches their skin.

The big question is; Why do you need to create a problem trying to solve another?

JP phillips, you and I will never agree on this...our philosophies are totally different on this topic, but what I can say for sure is that when the biggest country in the world treathens you, all your efforts will be in vain...right now iran is on its knees begging to scrap its nuclear program

This is the reply I gave to someone else, I am also giving it to you

the problem is that you trivalise policy fomulation and regulation...that is why you feel that if the government is not running business, then it is not doing anything...

Economies are built by government focusing on policy formulation and regulation, and not by government trying to run businesses...
We don't need to agree, all you need to do is to go through my posts and tell me any of my predictions that didn't come to pass then i will remind you what you said about deregulation.
you may appear smart but it takes critical thinking to formulate economic policies, I have no doubt that the people steering that ship for us is incompetent.

Mention two developed countries whose '' critical infrastructures'' are run by foreigners?

You said I trivialize economic policies, oyea! and how have you fared with the deregulation you supported?

you are just too blind to see like i told you the last time, you are better off in the Romance section.

Let me enlighten you a little.

Cuba has lived through decades of foreign sanctions and i tell you thy are not doing badly, have you bothered to ask how they survived?
when your thinking is not panoramic, you are prone to think like PDP.

Pre Ghadaffi Libya lived through loads of Foreign Sanctions but still came out with the best GDP in Africa, did you bother to find out how it happened? I guess not, so for someone who hasn't thought deeply, there is nothing i will tell you that will change anything.

That bold part of your post is a true reflection of laziness and incompetence, it is only a PDP Government that will present such fallacy as an economic yard stick for policy formulation.

And who told you that it was the sanctions that brought Iran to the Geneva negotiation table? that thing I always complain about you, you lack knowledge, this is what financial times said about Iran's new turn coat.

""But the idea that it is sanctions that have brought Tehran to the table is wrong. The real cause is the desire of new President Hassan Rouhani to reach a rapprochement with the US, the EU, its neighbours and other world powers, alongside the fact that the US red line has changed from “no enrichment of uranium” to “no nuclear bomb”."

your car is not a 1.8l, its either a 2.2l or 3.0 if its V6, what is causing the problem might be the rubbish they stuffed the exhaust with, a mechanic has suggested that to me in the past but i declined because the car actually saves more petrol with the CAT removed.

When i bought my ride from an Agent here in Nigeria, the check engine light came on after a few days, so i used the VIN to track the ride to realize the CAT was removed in the States because it has already failed emission test from the carfax report.

Now, i wanted to replace it, then I connected my OBD2 scanner and drove a full tank twice, did same for my friends car, same model, same year and my fuel consumption was lower than his, till date i still drive around with the MLT light on.

The big question is; Why do you need to create a problem trying to solve another?

simpleseyi: Yes, it is very good. Jonathan sold PHCN Ikeja Distribution Company to Obasanjo and sold Eko and Ibadan Distribution Companies to Abdulsalam, How much did Obasanjo and Abdulsalam earn thtoughout their military years and even as presidents to be able to afford to buy PHCN? Now Jonathan wants to sell Refineries to IBB, T Y Danjuma, Edin Clark, Atiku Abubakar and others, so that Nigerians will be left with nothing. Please when are they privatizing the air we breadth so that it will be properly managed by the "private investors" ? God is watching everyone on a 5D television.
illiteracy is not a fundamental human right, if in doubt ask falana

Seun: Can you be more specific about your reasons for saying GTBank is the worst bank for Tbill investment and that First Bank is one of the best?
It depends on who you meet at a particular bank branch, FBN use a separate outfit called First capital for it, that way there is professionalism and they are not distracted with normal banking operations.
certificates are equally released on time and roll over is possible except that you may be required to write a letter, not much hassles, the guys in first capital does virtually everything for you.

ndidibabe: Honestly, you are insane.
Thank your stars that you are of this generation, listen up, the only reason you think it doesn't matter is because the level of awareness is not high and the stigma of circumcised females are yet to be on the rise, that will change very soon with growing education and awareness.

The reason that practice is still thriving is because it tend to have some religious backing and knowing how crazy Africans are with religion, the stigma isn't there, but that will change very soon.
I know you may argue that it is no choice of the girl child but life isn't fair, that is why people are educating mothers like you to desist from the act to end the generation of people who have been mutilated.

From your name it sounds Ibo, do you know that there was a time the "osu" caste were no outcasts? in fact it was Christianity that made it worse, the same way education will create a set of female circumcised pariah/out caste, trust me, in the next 50yrs, it will be difficult for circumcised females to marry, if only the fore fathers who ran to shrines for refuge knew what will befall the generations they left behind, I am certain they will have a re think.

BTW, in case you are contemplating mutilating your Kids, better stay away from Rivers state because it is a crime that attracts 5yrs imprisonment, the Governor has already signed it into law

ojab2013: Female circumcision is not the same as the Female Genital Mutilatn. They are two different things. FGM involves cutting away the labia majora and labia minora while female circumsion involves cutting the upper part of the clit-ris. Female circumcision is good and healthy. All the adverse effects listed for female circumcision can also be gotten from male circumcision. It all depends on the medical expert. Please read more. We all echo what we hear not what we know. This is the Highest Level of Ignorance.
