If you understand the dynamics of shopping and market pricing system, then you would know that its better to buy things like oil, Rice, Beans, Garri/semo in bulk. These items constitute a major strain in cash when shopping. Imagine if oil was off that list, op would have spent about half the price only.

Under the Banking And Financial Institutions Act and CBN Act, charging from a customer’s account without the consent of the customer is even a crime under the Act.
As a bank you owe your customer the responsibility to not withdraw and freeze from the account of a customer unless;

1) A valid Court Order.

2) An order of the President to the CBN gov on the ground of public policy.

3) With the order of the customer.

So if the victim in question didn’t provide a valid court order, the scam proof isn’t enough for him to get the money reversed by the Bank.

There are exceptions and cul-de-sacs to this law. The law doesn't expect a scammer to give consent for reversal of funds. @ femiblacky what document(s) did you tender at the bank?

Should this narrative hold even after the plaintiff has provided all documents to prove that the defendant is a scammer?

I had an experience like this too. I worked for a company for some years then resigned my appointment. A month later I got a credit alert for my monthly salary which shouldn't have happened. I didn't touch it, nobody reached out to me although I did plan to call the HR and accounts later in the day as I was busy when I saw the alert. Exactly! Once all necessary documents to prove the oversight have been provided, any delay from the bank should be considered an affront and playing accomplice to the crime.

I am sure I didn't mention that my account was frozen for 6 months plus and a refund not initiated. The freezing was for less than a week and the money was refunded to the rightful owner.


Okay, do you mind telling me how it works? What I know is that in a case like this, the victim is asked to provide legal documents to prove that there was a scam. In this case, the victim provided all these and even screenshotted chats showing the scammer agreeing to the crime. What else needs to be done?

The best they can do is to freeze usage of such funds which they have done already. He's making it seem like returning the funds is like a normal thing which is far from reality.

Note also, this complaint was launched over 6 months ago, if not more. The victim has provided them with all the document they demanded for to prove his claims. That the scammer is a free man today and the op has not gotten gotten a refund is a far cry from the image you are trying to paint about this process.

Are you sure about this? Someone mistakenly transferred 10k to my ecobank account some years ago. I knew the money wasn't mine because the name attached to the transaction was strange and I was not expecting any money.


Ecobank froze my account because of someone else's mistake. I couldn't even withdraw my own money and this action continued until the money was reversed (took them less than a week)


Note that this money was transferred in error and was not a scam operation, clearly an error from the other end, yet Ecobank froze my account so much so that I couldn't withdraw my own money. If Ecobank can do that, why can't access? I bank with two banks today, but ecobank is still number one due to this factor. .

Cause a scene in the bank, put them under duress to explain why the right action hasn't been taken and if the reason for this delay is paper work, have them do it pronto. I can assure you that if the victim was influential, a refund would have been initiated long ago...so the military personnel would simply make the victim influential.
