goldenchic: My pre interview.
Me: Good morning ma/sir
Vo: Morning
What are you here for?
Me: I am here for F(1) student visa interview
Vo: Why Liberty University? I found out that LU is the largest private Christian uni in d world and 7th largest in d state. Its was Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programmes. Its has a strong record of career success, excellence reputation in teaching and research. Also known to develop Christ-centered men and women with values skills and knowledge required to impact tomorrow's world. It has an unique heritageandan ever-expanding influence. It encourages a commitment to the Christian life one of which is personal integrity, and an active communication of the Christian faith.it allows students to engage in a major field of study in career focused discipline built on solid foundation in liberal acts.
Vo: How did you learn about the school?
Me: I learnt about LU during a symposium organised by my school CU on Business intelligence afterwards conducted lots of research on the Internet using Princeton review,World report, forbes.com grad news etc
Vo:why do you want to study in US?
Me: I chose US after lots of research on schools dat suit my academic aspirations, saw that us education is the best in d world due to improved logistics and facilities. Usa is the biggest economy in the world and over 60% of the fortune 500 coys are located there eg Microsoft, Texas Instrument, GE which will give me more knowledge since MBA is all about case studies.
Vo: Why are you studying MBA in HRM?
Me: To gain a solid understanding of general biz admin acumen coupled with specalized HRM skills sets in implementing new procedures, solving conflicts, employees benefits and training. It will allow for effective and efficient talent sourcing and mgt as well the trends and techniques required to build a top level team of professionals.
Vo:Where do you find yourself upon completion of your studies?
Me: after my degree I am returning to 9ja because d opportunities is here for me . Looking forward to establish my own Hr firm which willl be an affiliate with major corporate organisations seeking external recruitment agencies. I will work with multinationals HR coys like Philips consulting, Michael Stevens etc
Vo: Convince me you will come back
Me: Nigeria is an investors paradise. I currently have a small scale block/bricks industry registered with C.A.C. Nigeria has the potential for economic growth and development I wont want to miss out of it. The MbA is to program me for the challenges ahead.
Vo: how many schools did you applied to?
Me: 3 Saint Joseph uni, Catholic Un,LU
Vo: where is ur GRE?
Me: upon my acceptance GRE, TOEFL wasn't required of me and I have a letter to that effect.
Vo: pick up your Visa At oshodi.
Me: Ose omo gidi

As for the first bolded, USA interviewers are trained to not be concerned with your sex, religion and race. I can see you keep hammering on religion as the reason for your choice of school. Are you saying being a christian school gives them an edge over other schools offering same course? You should focus on what drew your attention academically. Refrain from the religious ranking or rating. "It encourages a commitment to the Christian life one of which is personal integrity, and an active communication of the Christian faith. ". This has nothing to contribute to your studies. The interviewer might even be a Buddist or Muslim (He/she is human and will frown on the inside).

Your small scale business registered with CAC, do you have tax clearance certificate or at least a Tax Identification Number? Have you ever paid tax? If NO, run away from that statement. Anybody can register a business name. Tax Cert or Identification Number is the only proof that you are actually trading under that name and that you have declared your returns.

You talked about the economy of USA, big companies like Texas Instrument, GE, etc. Are you going to the US so that you can work with those companies? Red Flag. Just talk about their academic strength only. Oversabi go put you for trouble.

Just hope and pray they don't ask about standardised tests. I can see you didn't take any. If you have any work experience, you can use it as a reason why you were exempted from GRE. As for TOEFL, if your English communication is good, they won't bother you about it. Simply say you were exempted because the language of instruction in your undergrad institution was English.

domex007: Hello friends,
I need information and advice about this;
In my i-20 it states that my tuition is $20,950 including housing, tuition and fees, living expenses, miscellenous fees included.
Now the school requests that I bring $8k upon enrollment the remaining balance to be remitted to the 2nd semester, also in my admission letter, they said I should bring additional funds for living expenses as my living expenses is not included in the $8k.
Now my questions are;
Will the school provide meals for me after the deposit of $8k?
What exactly is the $8k for since the school won't feed me?
Do I choose campus housing or off campus?

That 8k should be part of tuition. I doubt if your school offers meal plan and others. Just know what your total tuition is and be prepared to go with extra money to take care of yourself. Most of those figures they put on I20 are estimated. It could be more.

Mjseun:

You are right bro. But if your appearance is too careless that could send a negative signal to the vo you know! Like having dread locks on your head, long beard, a guy using ear rings etc.... ones dressing should be decent I think

Well, Americans don't think like Nigerians. Dread, long beard, earrings, etc will only look weird to a Nigerian interviewer. Dress in whatever is smart and comfortable for you. On the day of my interview, a clergy on suit and pastor's white collar was denied while another yoruba man dressed in native attire (agbada) with his hair weaved and his ears pierced was approved.

Are you sure of this Mr? We need good advice and not leading people astray. I'm sure dressing smart/cooperate is advisable, which is what I'm going to do but my question is that "is it compulsory you knot a tie? Basic" ur shorts, Polo and slippers....... remember that first impression matters. I'm quite sure you joking with that combination of yours!

Its not a job interview. A short and T shirt will not stop you from getting a student visa. They don't even see your waist line down to your feet.

Mjseun: Hello house,
Please is it compulsory to knot a tie to the embassy for interview purpose? I'm Planning to dress smart but without a tie.

Your advise will be appreciated thanks

For my interview, I was on jean and long sleeve shirt. I didn't tuck in the shirt. I got my visa. They are only concerned with the interview itself and not your appearance.

You guys are busy arguing about airlines. People dey hustle to get visa. The truth is that most airlines are overrated just because of their country of origin. I have used Qatar and Emirate and they offer 5 star services on board. If you find a cheap flight with any of them, pick it up. As for the European airlines, they offer same services. They are only more expensive because they have been over hyped.

If dem get am, your own don finish. I will be giving out guidelines on how to know a safe (verified) billing merchant website later on. I hope I am not derailing the forum by so doing.

teepeehall: Have learnt alot from this forum. I must say a big Thank you to everyone. I have two questions to ask. 1. Is Murray State university Reg flagged?

2. How much will be good to have in my statement of account for the embassy interview ? I have a wife and a year old Son. The school requested for a statement of $26,944.

Murray State Uni is a good school. Very green flag. The money in your account should be at least that amount. The bigger, the better.

OjaP: Laura,

Below are what you should work on.

- Your answers to the V.O question;

* Always say you applied to at least 3 schools.
* Your reason for choosing your school wasn't convincing enough.
* You didn't write the GRE or GMAT. The V.O was particularly interested in that and that was why he asked.

Anybody can be your sponsor in as much you can give good reasons why the person would be doing that. Unless you work on the reasons above especially your GRE or GMAT. I am afraid your next interview won't be an easy ride and I pray you don't get denied again. Please fix all loop holes. Shalom!!!

Nice observation. Laura, if you do not want to write the GMAT/GRE, you still have a chance. The VOs know some schools exempt students from these exams. When asked about it, do not simply say it wasn't required. State a strong reason why you were exempted. Maybe due to your work experience.

I am really tensed as speculated and I haven't been on my laptop this long waiting for your correspondences , but i appreciate everyone that has contributed , May God bless you all and I hope to share my positive news soon.
if am not mistaken . here is what I have been advised to do

1 pray hard , I sure will do that . i can be a prayer warrior (want to try to put a smile on my face)
2 I would choose my Uncle as my sponsor this time , if VO doesn't talk about it .I would not talk about it .if he does . I would present a stronger ties with him like he was involved in my undergraduate .
3 I would not mention his present condition and would just take my dad"s account with me Should or In case (for back-up ). but I would not present it if not asked. cos my Uncle is my Sponsor
4 I will on the best answer to relate my BSC WITH Intended MSC .
5 yes My uncle and my dad bears the same last name (My dad is the elder brother) . I bear same too . cos I am not yet married . single but not searching .maybe when i get to obama land shaa grin( just kidding ,just wanna put a smile on my face cos i feel relaxed now .) as a matter of fact , I have started filling the ds 160 before i decided to through the question up here . but serioulsly . kudus to you all. would recommend this trend to anyone i know would need help. I LOVE YOU all. thanks i appreciate .

I still will become advice . as i am still seating here by my laptop. alone with plenty thought .

maybe i need a trip to the beach to kool off . any new friend. grin

EXACTLY... But since your uncle bears the same surname as your dad, PM me let me suggest something to you (Don't want VOs to read the suggestion). You may want to consider the option.

laura2014:

I am afraid his present balance as a result of his condition at present cannot cover my tuition for the first year . He is distabilised that i dont even want to disturb him at the moment is why am shifting grounds to my Uncle and which he has accepted since my dad already talked to him.

my first year tuition is 28000$ from the account i sent to the school . they estimated the funds to be 45,000$

so my Uncle is my last hope. Just dont know how to package it and go about it is why i need that help and please correct me on my previous transcript.

God Bless as i await your correspondence..

I have read your profile and previous transcript. You didn't do badly. The problem must be from the fact that you were nervous and responded with crammed responses like a robot. Just fill your DS form with your uncle's information. By the way, does your uncle bear the same last name as your dad? Again, do not mention your dad's financial stress as a reason why your uncle is sponsoring. You need to show stronger ties with your uncle. Present him as someone who has been responsible for your education since undergraduate. Your dad on the other hand is capable but your uncle just wants to complete what he has started since he already sees you as his own child. Take your dad's previous statement of account with you alongside your uncle's. Also work on how your chosen graduate program relates to your previous degree and future career prospect.

Of course they have to be different. Thats buying and selling rate.

Bro,I've been using gtb's master card for all my international transactions.

They charge more than the exchange rate and I can say that anywhere.

Just last week, they charged me #166.32 per $ for all the payments I made and this prompted me to email them over the weekend to ask about their exchange rate. They said #161.50 while they charged more than that.

See the attachment for confirmation.

You are right. All Nigeria banks are crooks when it comes to exchange rate. But above this, GT Bank is still the best when it comes to services outside Nigeria.
