That is what happens when freedom is taken to certan heights. Cant you all see what the British and American societies have become in terms of morals?

They think nothing of doing terrible things. Kids taking knives to school in societies where there is relative safety and comfort. Kids going on shooting sprees because the society tells them their lives are meaningless. A society that does not know God is a society that will be full of people whose lives have no meaning.

When they 'enjoy' briefly and realise that there is no deep satisfaction in what they consider to be enjoyment, their lives go pear shaped.

I like the fact that Sowore responded in this manner. I feel that Keyamo may also be constrained to respond but my opinion is that the continuation of these exchanges will do no good.

They both need to sit down and examine the ways they see things. Sowore considers issues from a journalistic point of reporting whereas Keyamo is a lawyer who works on evidences and not just allegations. You cant get convictions without evidences, especially against such powerful people in Nigeria.

In all, they are both noise makers who like to be relevant but they have used their noises to cultivate relevance and relative wealth so we expect them to start doing better things for ordinary people.

Sowore started this mess when he made his initial letter public. I would have reacted the same way if I was in keyamo's shoes.
Sowore was known as an exuberrant boy when he was in Unilag, although I graduated before he got there. I admire his courage in standing for something and not being another run-of-the-mill Nigerian who is willing to sell his soul for filthy lucre. Sowore will earn my greatest respect if he can apologise for making the letter public and then having a more mature dialogue with Keyamo in respect of the issues raised by both of them.

Keyamo's response is actually much more mature than Keyamo's frontal attack. Why should a lawyer be running around chasing people with no evidence?

I understand you are trying to make a point of how successful and self-productive Nigerians have been over the years but saying no kid in Nigeria dies of malaria except the children of ignorant parents who are one in a million is a total exaggeration. 'because I can tell you now, that thousands and thousands of kids die of Malaria. And apparently, that isn't just one in a million. There are still millions of ignorant Nigerians who believe Malaria is a curse from the gods, they are not just "one in a million" too.

Perhaps you are the one who believes malaria is a curse from your gods. Most people in Nigeria are aware of what malaria is and can treat malaria very easily. Malaria is no biggie in Nigeria. What happens is that ignorant people read what the media (CNN and co) feeds them and they think that is gospel. They dont have malaria and they dont understand it the way we understand it.

US job losses hit record in 2008

The search for jobs: More people are attending job fairs
More US workers lost jobs last year than in any year since World War II, with employers axing 2.6 million jobs and 524,000 in December alone.

The US jobless rate rose to 7.2% in December, the highest in 16 years.

Companies are cutting jobs as consumers reduce spending, amid fears the world's biggest economy will be in recession for a long time.

On Thursday, US President-elect Barack Obama called for drastic action to prevent the economy from deteriorating.

The annual jobless total was higher than expected, partly because jobless figures in November and October were revised upwards.


November's job losses were revised to 584,000 from 533,000 while October's losses were revised to 423,000 from 320,000.

More than half of the job losses last year were in the last four months of the year.

Analysts had forecast that 550,000 jobs would go in December.

Most December job losses were in the service sector, which shed 273,000 jobs. Manufacturing jobs fell by 149,000 in December, while employment in construction fell by 101,000, with retailers cutting staff by 67,000.

Some of those lucky enough not to lose their jobs, had their hours reduced. The number of aggregate hours worked in December fell 0.2 hours to 33.3 hours, the lowest level since records began in 1964.

AT&T, the telecoms giant, was among those to announce job cuts last month, reducing its workforce by 4% and cutting 12,000 positions.

'Ugly and getting uglier'

Anthony Conroy, head trader at Bny Convergex, said: "Well, the numbers look better than I think many were anticipating. I had heard anywhere from 500,000 to about a million, so it's definitely better than anticipated."

Other analysts found little consolation in the figures.

"No matter how you look at it, these are dismal numbers," said Matt Esteve, foreign exchange trader at Tempus Consulting.

Added Richard Yamarone, chief economist of Argus Research: "The job situation is ugly and is going to get uglier. There's no reason to expect hiring anytime in the next three to six months. We are not going to see any hiring until the government steps in and acts."

This is a serious issue.

After reading this, I am beginning to understand, and probably support, the so-called pirates. We never heard about the dumping and looting of Somalian sea resources until the pirates started operating. Western countries dont care if Africans all die and starve as long as westerners can enjoy the simple comforts of life.

We need to start thinking about the way we view things rather than jumping in support of the west everytime they sing a song. most people were beginning to see these pirates as the only evil people in thatsituation whereas the looting and dumping by foreigners was never given that amount of coverage.

I love Nigeria to bits.
