Hi @Justwise & co. I have found myself in an anxious situation & will be pleased with a kind clarification on this issue. Thank you.

The situation is, while on a tier 4 student visa to the UK; I travelled to Italy on a Schengen visa. Unfortunately for me, I got fined by bus inspectors (they are not police officers) for an honest error of not correctly validating my bus ticket in the bus. I later found out this is rampant amongst tourists in Italy due to lack of information/ignorance. Anyways, I paid my fine a day after at the bank. The inspector did record my name, Uk address, and some other relevant details from my BRP on the fine printout. I left the UK immediately after the completion of my programme.

Now I intend to apply for another student visa to further my study, will this affect my UK visa application (apart from this single & minor incident, I have very clean immigration records & excellent academic performances in my earlier programmes) & do I have to mention it in the application (meaning is this a “criminal offence” or just a civil affair?). This is bothering me as I abhor with all my heart bypassing any rules. It was an ignorant & honest mistake I made.

Thank you very much.
I seriously doubt that it will affect your application. You paid the fine without court appearance or criminal record

Please don't fall into the trap of converting pounds to naira in the UK. You will definitely secure ''a job'' within 2 years of being in the UK. However, whatever income you save after tax, rent, expenses etc is in pounds, not naira. The people who fall into this trap are people in low skilled or unskilled occupations, and I wouldn't advice the average educated Nigerian to do these jobs.

Good luck.
Anybody holding PSW should not make the mistake of waiting for graduate job while seating at home even with 1st class certificate.

Take any job and save as much as you can while applying for graduate job because you will need that money for your next move just in case the graduate job did not materialize.

Very few people get a graduate job with PSW for obvious reasons.

That does not answer my question

The part that has to do with Dependants. I am not clear about the bullet points below;

*Sponsored by a higher education institution on a course at level 7 on the Ofqual register or above that lasts 9 months

How does a Higher education Institution sponsor my Dependants?
The word ''sponsor'' is referring to your school..that is university registered/approved to admit foreign students...level 7 qualification is postgraduate.

So simply put...if you are going for Msc studies offered by an university(sponsor) then you are allowed to bring your dependant.

Me and my family applied for UK tourist visa first week of August.
Got an email on 27th that a decision has been made and TLS will contact me shortly. Up till today, no email, no further communications.

What got me bothered was my colleague who applied same week for a tourist visa have received his passport two weeks ago. He got the visa.

What exactly could be the issue?

I went to TLS and was told they are yet to receive our passports (my family)

I have a foreign training in another country sponsored by my company and now I need my passport back.

How do I go about this? Is this situation normal?

@ Justwise,
When is your trip?

Hello All,

Kudos for all the info shared in here. But i have a concern i read on the UK Gov website that seem quite different from what i have read here as per Dependants able to join their Principal appilicant who is a Student in the UK.

Below is an excerpt from the website;

Family members
Your family members (dependants) might be able to apply to join or remain with you in the UK if they’re from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.

A dependant is either:

your husband, wife or civil partner
your unmarried or same-sex partner
your child under 18 years old - including if they were born in the UK during your stay
You can apply to bring a dependant to the UK if you’re:

sponsored by a higher education institution on a course at level 7 on the Ofqual register or above that lasts 9 months or more
a new government-sponsored student on a course that lasts longer than 6 months
a Doctorate Extension Scheme student

@justwise abeg no vex
Since he hasn't applied for visa then no problem you can apply together but before you do that read about dependant financial requirement for tier 4 visa application

This is very important.

Read first page of this thread.

Hello guys. I was just refused a uk visit visa. During my application, I had over 6 million in my account. My salary is 300k each month, plus I have additional income of around 200k+ every month as well, which I stated during the application. But it seems that they didn't take account of my additional income. What did I do wrong and what can I do to correct it. Any response/help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

" You have declared that you are employed and state that you earn 300,000 NGN (£672.05 Converted on Oanda.com, 05/09/2019) per month. You state that you spend 160,00 NGN (£358.43) per month on living costs. You state that your trip to the UK will cost 1,000,000.00 NGN (£2,240.17) which equates to over 7 months disposable income on a 7 days trip. Your proposed expenditure of your visit casts doubt on your intentions to visit the UK. "

@justwise
You over budgeted for the trip, reduce your budget and reapply

Hi guys. So because of the different opinions here and there I won’t be applying with my husband. In fact he already submitted the form where he was asked if he’s applying with a dependant. My question is can I still apply as a dependant later? And also how soon can I apply after he gets his visa? Before he leaves or after?
Cc @justwise
Did he select no? If she then wait till his visa is out and probably travel first then you apply to join him.

You should have applied together, nothing wrong with that. You were mislead

When you are applying for visa and if your school requested for it you can also send it to them

Sir I went to banking school,
even though I nor finally work for bank, to the best of my knowledge the bank will not disclose your current closing balance to the embassy, only confirm what was printed in the statement since you printed it and gave it to them.

From what I see, the only way the embassy can get your current closing balance is if they suspect that the money was put there just for show and they request an updated bank statement.

This is why it's still good for people to leave the money there or even add to it until they have been approved and received their passports.
What are you on about? You went to banking school to study embassy and bank business relationship?

Lemme tell you my own story

I have a very useless uncle And a useless aunty too. The uncle works for Texas department of Insurance. I sought for jobs 5 -6 years in Nigeria I didn't see. Money wasn't coming in, nothing. My life was doomed, I didn't have anywhere to go. Did few deals in the past, made some proceeds and did a passport. Since then, all doors closed in again.
I asked my uncle to assist with just a letter of invitation, he said I should call one of my aunties, I called my aunty (imagine calling the US and spending over 20mins on phone, and I didn't have a job, I'd help my father to help in his shop, the small change, I'd use it to buy units and call overseas.) they all kept joking with me until this my aunt said, she'd make findings and see how I could come. This is 2019, and it's almost ending , she made that Idiotic statement since 2017.
Today, it's a different story. I warned my mom never to ever call them on phone and speak about anything that concerns me to them again. They now saying, they don't know why I'm angry.
Uncle works for Texas department of Insurance , aunty is a senior Lecturer for University of Texas, Austin. Her first son is US Army and a very senior officer. All US citizens. I thank God, I wouldn't be needing their help for anything in this life again. I've even deleted them from facebook. They go about telling people that I'm bad , angry and I'm a rough person. Until when some heard my own side of the story... Tables has finally turned.

I don't depend on any stupid relation overseas. Bunch of useles people one should never rely on.
A letter from your uncle will not get you a visa, it’s worthless. You should have asked your aunt for a scholarship link rather than IV letter

I have had the opportunity to engage in this same conversation with few bankers and bank managers, irrespective of the sign disclaimer, verifying the sitting balance is somewhat rare.

Also, different banks with different policy of compliance of sharing certain info.

One thing i know for such is that a BS verification process isn't necessarily manadated to be the sitting closing balance. The transactional histories and the generating source is majorly the focus.

This is an observation i have personal observed with quite a number of applicants, but still i won't be so certain because i am only speaking from my own angle of closed observations.
Oh now its rare and not the usual..bank has no right to disclose closing balance to a 3rd party?

Imagine submitting bank statement with 20M naira balance and the embassy wants to verify that bank statement..you really think that they will not check to know if that 20M is truly available?

The embassy and provid them your application reference number, passport number and your full name. Then paragraph by paragraph state your issue. You can also highlight it in the refusal letter and attach it.

Oga Justwise, the bankers on this forum can testify to the fact that Banks do not disclose account balance of their customers to a 3rd party, and embassy is a 3rd party.. What the embassy does is to pick a transaction day or days and contact the banks to know what actually happened dt day as regards the applicant's SOA with them if it tallies with what the banks tell them, but for the bank to disclose closing balance to them, I doubt it. The only organizations that such information can be disclosed to are the EFCC, ICPC e.t.c and not embassy.. Please bankers in the house I want ur input on this cos I no b banker.. Does ur bank tell the embassy the account amount of ur customers to 3rd party including the Canadian embassy? Ur response will be appreciate by Myself, Justwise and also this family... Peace
Which bank balance are you talking about? The same one you willingly submitted to the embassy and sign a disclaimer?

The money doesn't necessarily has to be sitting there, as majority of business mind individuals will never leave huge funds for a certain long period. The history of the transactions are mostly key determinant for veriification process likewise the generating source of the BS.
This is misleading and we should make an effort not to give wrong info.

If you applied for visa and submit bank statement containing money that met the financial requirement then that money is expected to be there, if you moved it out and use it for any other purpose then you have misrepresented your situation.
