I promise this is going to be my last word on this issue. Let me correct that impression that I support people who abuse the system I don't because I pay my dues as at when due home and abroad. But I get pissed off when people paint all Nigerian as crocks and scammers. I am a Nigerian 100% and I am proud to be one. American will stand for their country anytime and anywhere even when they know the system is not what it should be. Can't we as Nigerian learn to do the same? Why was the writer talking only about Nigerian in that write up? Are Nigerians the only tourist who give birth in the U.K.? The change must begin with me We are good people and a great nation
I'm glad that you pay your due because that is what any responsible human being should do, you don't use a service and leave without paying for it. I'm also 110% Nigerian but will never support injustice in the name of patriotism.

The same way the Brits complain about the abuse of NHS by health tourist is the same way Americans complain about the abuse of medicare by foreigners.

Its not by coincident that Nigerians are targeted as fraudulent people, its because of what some Nigerians do and support.

This is not an attack on you but this is becoming far too common here.

Hi,MrTumble I am pregnant and am on a wheelchair in Nigeria,am so scared because of my health issue. Am thinking of travelling out of the country to the UK to give birth to my child because I dont really trust hospitals here in Nigeria, also I have family in the UK. I dont have money but I heard that hospitals are free in the UK,can you please advice me on what to do?
Hospital in the UK is not free, it will cost you thousands of £££s to give birth in the UK.

Health tourist is a serious issue in the UK

Your title says Qatar, Dubai and Kuwait.

I don't know much but if it's Qatar, the standard of living is way too high and you won't get a good job. You can ask your question in the link provided. People who live in UAE and Qatar tend to respond.

I won't want to join issues with you on this matter but I know there is always two sides to a coin.yoy have not heard her own side of the story. I just said I was in the U.K. With a twin pregnancy at 28weeks of course not to give birth. It was summer and I had to attend my nieces graduation what if I had fallen into labour at that time wouldn't they have treated me? There are no private hospitals there like we have here so I wouldn't have a choice but to use the NHS.They wouldn't even send you the bill for ages. So she should stay there and continue to wait for their bill to come? It's a lapse in their system and they should find a way of correcting it instead of crying wolf where is non.
You will be treated on arrival until you are well enough to leave and will not be forced to pay the bill before leaving. This is not the issue here, i just found your support of people abusing the healthcare system shocking.

I think I still stand by nerf's opinion. There is absolutely no benefit in giving birth in the U.K. and they know that. That is why the so called thread disappeared I was in the U.K. With a twin pregnancy at 28weeks and nobody asked me any questions when I was entering because tourists seldom go there to give birth. I found that article rather too personal ,unprofessional and absolutely mischievous. Why should the writer go to the extent of mentioning somebody's name? I think that Ayelabola woman should sue them. It is nothing more than defamation of character. kilo de gan to the extent that they put her pix with her children abeg make them free that woman joor abi na jelosy wan key them?
Sue the newspaper for stating the fact? Defamation of character? Before you encourage her to sue the newspaper first ask her to go and pay her bills.

Her visa does not entitled her to use the NHS but she did and she was treated but failed to pay her bills and you are here talking about suing the newspaper and defamation of character.

Do you still wonder why the UK stopped citizenship by birth?

Will you be treated in any hospital Nigeria without paying or making a deposit first?

It is a disgustingly annoying article. There was no message just a racial bigot rambling on and on about NHS! Nigerians who know whats up dont go to the UK to give birth. There is no benefit whatsoever so why even risk it? I think Justwise and Seun need to set that story straight and put that journalist in his place. Rubbish!

I don't think you understand how much tourist abuse healthcare system here and leave without paying a penny.

The Nigeria lady left £350,000 hospital bills unpaid and in 2011 another Nigerian lady gave birth to quintuplets and left £145,000 unpaid.

You called people complaining racist?

There is a thread here about giving birth in UK though that thread disappeared as people don't fancy the idea, so i don't know where the journalist got the nairaland aspect of that article

Do you have any evidence to prove this? Because I know most of them own properties abroad and there will be little need for this if they are not citizens of these countries or plan to be in future.

You also said you have no need for your Nigerian passport this is my point, people like you and others in diaspora don't see any need to maintain your Nigerian citizenship this is why it should no longer be allowed to have double citizenship so that we can at least earn revenue from visa fees which should also be hiked as demand for it will increase

I think you should have done a bit of research before starting this topic because you don't seem to know much about it.

You don't need to be a British citizen to own a property here all you need is a business visa and many politicians buy through a 3rd party or a company.

If Nigerian govt hiked visa fees the British govt will do the same(that is how it works in diplomatic level) so if you hiked it Nigerians applying for UK visa will pay the price and as you know more Nigerians travel to the UK than the other way round.

I know a lot of them and most of them don't own bank accounts in Nigeria, like I said they live on estacodes but their salaries are paid directly into their accounts in India
Of course because Indian currency is stronger than that of Nigeria and Expats working in Nigeria has that arrangement.

Why would they have their money banked in Nigeria with the falling value of naira?

I'm talking of indians living in a developed country and not Nigeria.

Thank you for your insightful post but I have issues with the bolded statement. Let's take India as an example, their government doesn't allow dual nationality and we can see how the Indians act in business especially. They travel to other countries, establish businesses but a good number of then they maintain their nationality as Indians

Because of this they send money back home to establish their families, some of them don't even open bank accounts in their countries of residence instead they are paid into their Indian accounts but live on estates instead.

What this means is that their economy often benefits from this positively.

Isn't this an obvious advantage that can possibly happen if we also practice this
I'm not sure you know jack about Indians maybe not the same Indians I know

Although I think this statement is exaggerated but this is one of the issues that will be addressed once people can no longer posses dual citizenship. Right now it is easy to commit crime and be labeled a Nigerian even when the individual is also a chinese, Malaysian, American etc citizen.

If people are no longer allowed dual nationality in this country we shall have less people soiling our image abroad

You said you will never give up your British citizenship but I guess you might not have strong ties to Nigeria if you did you might give it more thought as you will need to apply for visa each time you want to visit them, you cannot aspire for any political posts since you are not a Nigerian, you might not even be considered to moderate a Nigerian focused forum such as this because you are not a Nigerian cheesy

What I am trying to say is that the advantages of being a Nigerian citizen is dual nationality is banned will outweigh that of being a British citizen
I think before you make such assumption you need to find out first if i have any remote political interest in Nigeria.

Moderating travel section got nothing to do with nationality, i don't need work permit to do so and this is purely a volunteering.

Nigerian tarted image has very little to do with crime committed by Nigerians abroad so you don't have a point there.

Nigerian image problem is home-made, Nigerian politicians living in Nigeria starts their thieving career in Nigeria and very few of them are dual citizens, boko haram started in Nigeria, kidnappers carry out their crime in Nigeria, yahoo yahoo started in Nigeria and exported to other part of the world.

Advantages of being a dual citizen does not in anyway outweigh that of being a British citizen, how many days or weeks do i spend in Nigeria in a year? The last time i touched my Nigerian passport was 2yrs ago and that was just to visit Nigeria. i can as well apply for Nigerian visa rather than traveling with the passport.

Don't forget that i was a Nigerian before becoming British so i know the value of those two passports
Travel › Re: Why Dual Nationality Should Be Banned In Nigeria by justwise(mod): 9:27pm On Jan 14, 2017
I really don't see how that will strengthen the value of Nigerian passport. That can only mean that few people will be willing to return home to invest or even bothered to apply for Nigerian visa.

I don't know about anybody else but if that happens I will never denounced British citizenship to that of Nigerian because sometimes holding Nigerian passport is like been caught with drug at the airport

Congrats, bro. I'm glad for you.
So, in 4 years time, you'll be eligible to apply for US citizenship. The total application fee is around $500, and you'd have to take the citizenship test before being sworn in as a US citizen.
That is cheap, the U.K takes £1236 from you.
