Every day in Lagos, eight or nine officers interview hundreds of people seeking visas to the United States. Because we try to serve as many applicants as we can, the interviews are quite short -- only two to three minutes. A lot of the information that we need is already there in your application, but we like to hear from you, personally, about your travel plans. Sometimes, visa applicants bring stacks of documents, and they seem disappointed when we do not look at all that paperwork. But the idea of a personal interview is to speak with you face-to-face -- not to examine documents.

Our job is to uphold the law. Sometimes that means denying a visa. If you apply for a tourist visa, but we get the idea from the interview that you are really going to work at your uncle's pizza shop, then we will not issue the visa. Students who only apply to one school and cannot explain their choice are also unlikely to be granted a visa. It is important that your intentions match your visa category.

Many visa applicants pay consultants to prepare their applications. Although some consultants might provide helpful information, many do not. Remember that you alone are responsible for the accuracy of the information in your application. False information on the application or fake document packages could result in permanent ineligibility.

If you are a student, we expect you to be credible and qualified. You should be prepared to talk about why you chose the university that you plan to attend, and you should be able to explain how you will pay for your studies. It should be easy for us to believe that you will finish the degree at the institution you have selected, and we must be convinced that full-time study is the primary purpose of your travel.

It is best to apply early, but not before you have heard from your first-choice school. (Your visa will be annotated with the name of the school listed on your I-20 form at the time of your interview.) You can apply for a visa up to 120 days before your program is scheduled to begin. However, you may not enter the U.S. more than 30 days before the report date for your course. If you are applying for graduate work, be sure to apply as early as you can, as sometimes administrative processing is required that might delay the issuance of your visa.

Nearly 104,000 Nigerians are currently studying in the United States. Like you, they were nervous when they faced the American visa officer behind the glass. The situation, admittedly, does not put one at ease. However, if you know yourself to be a credible, qualified student, then you should have nothing to worry about. Take a deep breath, relax, and remember that the person behind the glass is there to help you. We are regular people too -- just like you.

Thanks @ just wise but on my passport I still bear my maiden name while my husband and my son name are d same and also my husband has applied for UK visa b4 but refuse twice same yr DAT was 2008 and he didn't av d information he used then so wat doc can he use to back his application he owns a company also av a land and he owns d house we re living he pay his tax his bank statement is OK like 10m hope d balance is not too much he's going to sponsor d trip and I will also sponsor as in my husband and myself as d sponsorer
Your marriage certificate will take care of that. Your husband has to acknowledge those previous refusals and state just briefly why he was refused.

He needs to submit his company's account, his savings/personal accounts and tax certificate.....then his property documents.

Hello Justwise & Vicjustice,

Any particular reason why some visiting visa applications are processed in Sheffield UK and some here in Nigeria? Whats the main reason for that? When I went to submit my application i was asked to hold on for an interview but late asked to go that I can go. My question is this why are some application done here and others in sheffield I am renewing my 2 yrs visa .

Regards
I got no clue, wouldn't want to second-guess the reason behind that.

[quote author=rukkiat .morin good people pls I want to renew my visa I had 6 month and 2 yrs wich has expired and I want to renew can I renew wit 6 month cos I don't av money for 5 yrs i want to apply with my family my husband and my 2 yrs old son they have never travel to UK before but my husband has travel to Us and Brazil and he has a valid Us 2yrs visa we travel for family visit and document has been sent by my sister she's a british so plsssss what document do I need to add again cos my son has not travel before pls I need a urgent reply thanks
If you can't afford 5yrs visa you can apply for 6 months or 2yrs, the process is still the same though everything is done online now, same set of documents though separate application form for each traveling family member.

You need to include your son's birth certificate and letter from his school(if they are not on holiday)

You cant imagine how much!
Meanwhile hold money to pay each time you need to pee o from 20p to 50p depending on where you are, oyinbo no go let you use their toilet even at the filling stations and the coolness of the weather will put your bladder on overdrive, so ready, unless you dont want to go out!

Also bottled water of N50 here? arrange your £1.90 even though the water from the tap is safe to drink. Question will now be when out where to find tap?

Meanwhile cway dispenser water is now N400? Na wa o
grin grin grin there are many places in London where they don't charge you for using the toilet... St.Pancras station is one of them, supermarkets don't charge ....

Last week, it was a Nigerian woman spotted eating amala in a London train. A video just emerged of a Nigerian man eating what seemed to be egusi soup and pounded yam. Lol…Nigerians for yonda no send again o.

http://www.gistsdaily.com/lol-another-nigerian-man-seen-eating-pounded-yam-in-u-s-train/
Disgusting, the most unhygienic place to eat, what happen to parks or the place he bought the food?

This got nothing to do with being proud of his culture or food, this is pure madness.

Yep, the cost would be the problem. I wasn't even referring to that.
I still do not understand what you mean by getting caught. Does home office mandate students to live close to the University?

Not living close to university but living in the same city as your school or borough in the case of London. A friend got served Curtailment of Leave because his college is in London while his lives and works in Dunstable and was caught.
