mofolorunshoabi: Kindly advice us. My elder sister was initially granted a 6 months visa to the UK. She travelled twice but upon renewal she submitted a fake document erronously and it was detected. Consequently she was banned for 10years. The ban is almost 5years now but our question is does she have to wait for that 10yrs before she can re apply? Also can she reapply now and beg for liniency(if there is anything like that). ThanksSadly the answer is yes, she has to wait until the ban is finished before applying again. |
phemobay: please just wise how can i get uk visit without invitation letterBook for hotel accommodation. |
Mitsurugi: With so much pain in the land, how many Nigerians look their real age? Plenty |
La Parisienne: Nah, I didn't say the thread is front page material. No site grow without traffic and without traffic nobody will advertise here, nairaland is not charity organization that depend on donor money, when i said news worthy i meant topics that will get people talking, whether for good or bad, news is news. |
La Parisienne: We must be looking at different front pages.Everybody will not see it the same way, some topics are sent to fp to provoke comments whether for or against and keep people reading for more than 5-10mins thats what brings traffic to the site. Looking for where to eat Nigerian food or where to hang-out with Nigerians in China is not front page material. |
@Justwise: He's asking for help, you of all people should understand how it feels to get stuck in a country that english is barely spoken... He is clearly in a situation & that merits his post being on the front page, afterall this is the travel section. @Onatisi: of course You are travelled enough to know when someone is genuinely stuck in a foreign country and runs out of options... Well, I thought it was a fp issue
Yes he is asking for help and getting the help here, material that goes to front page is one that is news worthy and will generate traffic to nairaland, i don't see this topic do that. |
verrady: my brother, most of the questions they ask, can only be done from behind and such discussions can not be done in a forum like this cos u don't knw who's listening.I hope you understand!!!Nothing should be secret about getting a passport, its only when people are planning to commit fraud that they want the discussion in private. |
Solozzo: The key issue is that she is married to a British citizen and the immigration thinks there is no emotional attachment in the relationship, so it is a fake marriage. They have to prove their case in court.some lof thes immigration officers are so racist. The UK had run its economy down and using foreigners as scape goats.Don't start waving your race card, no country want their immigration system abused. Did Nigeria not send Ghanians packing in 70s? |
coogar: she won't go anywhere - her suicide move and the publicity would get her pardoned! You remember this story? http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2008/mar/20/immigration.immigrationandpublicservices Public demonstration did not stop her deportation and she died in Ghana. |
pDude: If it were possible I would have chooked my hand into my fone and brought it out through your computer and given you a resounding slap. ![]() |
lostinchina: Good day my people!I don't see this as a front page material. |
Makomen Omonkhomion: @ Just wise Wen studying in the Uk, During Holidays, is it Possible to successfully apply for a Canadian Visiting Visa if My uncle sends an invitation. That is possible. |
coogar: while all this is happening, some female activists and human rights activists are in court or constituting a nuisance somewhere to fight her case. i heard the woman with the quintuplets is still in the UK with a 6-bedroom house funded by your taxes. women have it easy in this country whether as an immigrant or as a permanent resident! Registry contacts UKBA when they suspect that marriage is a sham one after interviewing the couple, sometimes jealous friends give UKBA a tip up that certain individual is about to carry out sham marriage |
bee444: You are what age you tell anybody to be. Have you seen a British or American 19 yr old of late? You'd be amazed of their size. Stop drinking panadol for someone else's headache. The age or dob on your passport is your age, who cares if you are less or more? You really can not be serious. Though i'm not surprised. |
coogar: exactly! That has changed long ago, illegal immigrants can get married in the UK now without UKBA permission or certificate of marriage, but when that person applies for a stay with that marriage certificate his or her status before marriage comes up. |
Pataki: "19 years old girl" fled to the UK 3years ago. That means she was 16years of age at the point of entry into the UK. How was she able to finance her student visa following the death of her father? LIE No 1.1000 likes. on point! |
kufreabasi: They lady has been married and she eligible to stay except the marriage was faked. No where is safe in the world for life. Her status in the UK before she got married is the problem here, the asylum claim and the fear of being killed in Nigeria if deported goes to show that she her immigration record was not right before the marriage. |
Akpa ife: And who is even begging them 2 hell wt uk,those monster dat thief our resource early 70 use it n develop their country they r still d piple dat put us in bad condition 2day Stop giving excuses for our corrupt govt. |
Morayo747: I'm not making any assumptions mate. I read this story since yesterday. Like I said noone is going to spell anyones rights to them. If someone doesn't know they have a right to be with their spouse under EU law UKBA will not tell them. If she chose to appeal she would have been told though by her lawyer and she would win. Like I said let me know she lands in Nigeria then I'll admit defeat. You don't know EVERYTHING MR KNOWITALL. You really run out of breath. This lazy comment is what i get each time i'm arguing with people like you, rather than putting their point across they come up with such lazy comment hence the reason why i have ignored your comments and will have to do that from now on. Rant on. |
Morayo747: That girl is not an illegal immigrant!! This case is peculiar. There are many things that could get one refused e.g applying with wrong forms, previous serious criminal conviction etc. Nonetheless we know she won't be put back on a plane to Nigeria. The girl overreacted cos she may not know her rights. When you have an example of someone married to a Brit/EU citizen who gets deported after invoking their EU human rights let me know.Stop making assumptions and read the article, maybe you will get your head around the case as it appears you don't at the moment. |
Nairaland FBI: Justwise I will avoid you with all your big grammar. ![]() |
@Bandeco This is from the link provided by dahonestboss your chances of regulating your paper is brighter when you apply from Sweden. If you have or are expecting children in Sweden: If you are in Sweden without a valid residence permit you may in certain cases be granted a residence permit due to ties to a close family member, without having to leave Sweden. This applies if you have a child who has a residence permit or who is a Swedish citizen, and if you have or are expecting a child with a person who is a Swedish citizen or who has a permanent residence permit. In these cases the requirements are: that you fulfill the conditions for being granted a residence permit due to ties to a close family member in Sweden that it is clear that you would have received a residence permit if you had submitted your application before coming to Sweden and it is not reasonable to demand that you return to your home country to apply. The child's best interest The consequences for your child to be separated from his or her parent determine whether or not you can be granted a residence permit without having to leave Sweden. Your application for a residence permit in Sweden may be turned down if: you do not fulfill the requirements for a residence permit due to ties to a close relative it is likely that the embassy will be able to process your application within a reasonable period of time it is believed that your child will not be harmed by your temporary separation. Your application may also be turned down if you have a criminal record or have been an illegal resident for a significant period of time, or if you have provided incorrect information. |
The asylum story did not do her any favour after coming in as a student, i really hope she recovers and allow to stay with her husband. |
Tstark: That woman in the pic is at least 27She is not 19, this picture proves that even more
|
Allohrandy: @ justwiseThat is just an allegation with no hard evidence, you can not rush into conclusion based on that. |
Allohrandy: I think she be deported to Nigerian immediately..UK governament should not waste their tax payers money on her..She is among those that give Nigerians bad name abroad. She was involved in a sham marriage for immigration purposes. She came to UK on student visa and should have gone back after her visa expired instead of involving in a fake marriage.. Anyway I wish her speed recoveryHow do you know that? |
An asylum seeker who is married to a British man is fighting for her life in hospital after an overdose just days before she was due to be sent back to Nigeria. May Brown, a 19-year-old college student, fled to Britain from her home country three years ago after witnessing her father's murder and being subjected to sexual abuse. She settled in Weymouth, Dorset, where she met her husband, Michael Brown, 12 months ago and the couple married last December. Mrs Brown, who was a games maker at last summer's Olympics and has two university offers to study law, applied to stay in the UK but despite her marriage her application was rejected. Mr Brown, 34, said UK Border Agency officials believe their marriage to be a 'sham' with no 'emotional attachment'. His wife was told she would be flown back to Nigeria tomorrow. She was so distressed at the prospect of returning to her home country she took an overdose of medication. Her mother-in-law, Helen-Claire Brown, found her collapsed on the bathroom floor on Monday morning with a note to her husband saying she 'couldn't live without him'. The teenager was rushed to the Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester where she remains in a coma in intensive care. May wrote: 'I am deeply sorry that I had to go this way, without even saying goodbye. 'The UK immigration has finally driven me insane. They've pushed me too far this time and I can't take the pain any more. 'I don't want a life or a future you won't be part of. I love you so much, more than life itself and can't endure the agony of not being with you. 'Please forgive me for ending it this way. It's better to die with my dignity than be subjected to torture and undignified death back in Nigeria.' Before she took the overdose, May had said she feared her abusers would kill her if she returned to the African country because she witnessed her father's death. She said: 'If they send me back to Nigeria they are signing my death warrant, they will cut my life short because I will be killed. 'I have found peace with Michael, he gave me a reason to live. I have got a family here and we don't claim any benefits. 'Michael works and I am studying to become a barrister, we have not harmed anybody.' Mr Brown, a former soldier who now works for a removals company, insisted the couple's marriage was genuine and slammed the UK Border Agency for its treatment of his wife. He said: 'May is the most beautiful, kindest, loving person I have ever met. I can't live with myself if anything happens to her. 'She is the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with and you can't pretend something like that. 'All we want is a life together. But I'm so angry that is being taken away from us.' Mother-in-law Helen-Claire, 59, added: 'May is a part of our family and the way the immigration service has treated her is so, so wrong and heartless. 'She came here on a student visa and has applied for asylum because she fears for her life if she goes back. 'What kind of world do we live in when a 19-year-old girl who has been through so much already feels she has no other choice but to kill herself?' Miss Brown is studying public affairs at Weymouth College and hopes to go to university and become a barrister. A Home Office spokesman said: 'We cannot comment in detail on this case while legal proceedings are ongoing. 'In cases where people are found to have no right to remain in the UK they should leave voluntarily or face removal.'
