yungokus: To add to what u just said .. The embassy for sure doesn't xpect one to leave the money u tendered as balance in the bank statement till one gets the visa! Of course they know one might require cash for daily upkeep while xpecting his/her visa, so one can withdraw funds and do whatsoever the person wants to use it for BUT not withdrawing so much that the account becomes RED i.e Insufficient funds for a like a month or two.. Like we know the embassy is much more interested in the inflow and outflow of cash in the account . And truly I admit the fact that they verify the present balance in the account asides the month u submitted the month end statement of account as at when applying cos I work in a bank too... So whenever and whoever is sponsoring gives u his statement of account please advice the person to please help in reducing the way he or she withdraws funds and not depositing such funds back or better still if the person is someone close to you.. You can always tell the person to pay u a check in your name in huge sum to withdraw money from the account cos obviously the bank would state Mr/Miss A collected cash @ a particular date. So when the embassy are doing the necessary checks on the account they would see on the statement of account that you actually get funds from ur sponsor regularly... Cos a comprehensive bank statement would state who and who has been debitting and crediting such account..
I have to disagree with you on that. When you applied for student visa and supplied bank statement showing amount that covers your school fees and your expenses in Canada, you do not touch that money after submitting your application only if you have more than required in that account.

That money is purely for your school fees and your up keep in Canada, when you start withdrawing the money even before the visa is issued it means that you are not prepared financially to study in Canada.

And again...its misleading because the amount that shows in your bank statement is not what you have in your bank account when the embassy calls to verify.

kevyngbash: Only two African cities, Lagos and Cape Town, got the nod in the list of the world's 25 most innovative cities.

The competition, which is jointly sponsored by Citigroup and the Urban Land Institute, assesses the sustainability and liveability of cities worldwide. Cities were judged on their commitment to development and the willingness of their leaders to show initiative.

Pitykitten: Hello everyone,
I am new on Nairaland and I'm not quite sure how this works...I need advice,I'm a 500L medical student and I want to travel to the UK early next year to visit.

I have family there(An Aunt) but I can stay in a hotel if that would be better(I can't be away from school for over 2weeks anyway)

I have applied for visa to France with all necessary documents but was refused on grounds that I don't have strong ties to Nigeria. What can I do to avoid such again?

Please show some love y'all. God bless.
You will face the same problem with the UK embassy.

kenny2gbaski: Hello Justwise, Vicjustice & others
Please i need your help/Advice URGENTLY, My Dad just got an invitation to visit the UK for a wedding ceremony of his Niece in few months, all the necessary supporting documents has been sent already to the embassy from UK. he was not the only one that was invited (some couple of other family members' names was sent to the embassy as well). 2 documents (including the invitation letter) has been forwarded to his mail. Now he is getting ready for visa processing, There is is a particular problem, i don't think his personal account statement is good enough to get him the visa, So my question is
Is it possible or allowed if someone else is willing to stand as his sponsor (Like his Pastor or a friend). this sponsor is willing to provide all necessary documents and account statement for him as well as write to the embassy claiming to sponsor his trip?
Is this accepted? Any other suggestions will surely be appreciated. Thank You.

The chances of your daddy getting a visa is very very slim, is either he is sponsoring himself or his niece who is inviting him will sponsor him.

mrduke: no stamp on entry Nigeria, not stamped by immigration at the airport on entry Nigeria
That is strange, i know my passport was stamped when i visited Nigeria and it was stamped again when i left Nigeria. Without the exit or entry stamp in her passport she may have a problem explaining when she left the UK.
Remember I said earlier, you often come across like you are more British than the Brits. And when it comes to UK immigration matters you often come across like holier than thou and put forward a know it all attitude, I am clean, you are evil attitude.

I made reference to legitimate expectation because of your nonsensical statement earlier claiming visas can be refused even if you meet the requirements. Need I remind you that one of the grounds for a Judicial Review is the legitimate expectation under the UK immigration legislation wherein when as applicant has fully complied with the requirements of the UK Immigration rules, it is expected that the Visas would be granted.

Stick it in, the UKBA staff screwed things up and the comment by the first poster concerning how legitimate applicants are denied visas for frivolous reasons is in order.

Who knows how of such visas application has scaled through in the past huh
I actually thought that you are coming up with a reasonable argument but typical you, you started getting your knickers in a twist, meeting all requirements does not in any way means that an applicant will be given a visa, its still under the ECO's discretion and if an applicant applies for Judicial Review there is no guarantee that the decision will be in his or her favour. The use of legitimate expectation is not guaranteed only if that applicant has an exceptional case.

paris10: My point exactly. He won't bash his people (UKBA) on this but would rather deviate to something meaningless; talking about double standard and being bias.

Once again, the UKBA is the criminal. They should be put away and made to rot in Nigerian jail.

What was UKBA's crime?
Travel › Re: UKBA Officers Caught In Lagos Filing Fake Visa Application For Maid by justwise(mod): 6:30pm On Oct 16, 2012
paris10: Do not justify your bullock write-up based on my assertion that you do condemn Nigerians without giving a second thought. These people are not Nigerians mind you!

And why talking about the woman and Visa when you should be focusing your criticism to the "criminals"? Behind every successful drug dealer or criminal benefit, there's a white man waiting somewhere for his share of the spoil.

Crimes are what they are today, and millions are being put away just to appease the middle-class. The middle-class steals our money (Wall street politics) and a guy in the slum is being blamed for the crime. The poor smoke weed and have possession of them, he gets months behind bar. Middle-class do the same and even go further as to snorting cocaine, he gets nothing.

Crimes are created to the detriment of the poor. Parliament passes new bill into law every now and then without consideration for the poor.

Police concentrates most of their effort in the slum trying to catch the poor and mentally inbalance all in the name of providing crime statistics, and you call that fairness?

I'm not directing this to you in particular, but just educating you of what is going on in the society. Have you thought about social disorganisation and the theories and hypothesis which affirms that crime is an irrational act rather than rational or a free-will?
I'm not surprised that you came up with these off-topic rants, you need to take time out to sort yourself out because there is something definitely wrong with you.
Answer the simple question and stop spewing rubbish. If and when a visas requirement is meant, there is a legitimate expectation that such a visas is granted. Beside, I am some what surprised How you are not bashing UKBA on this but should it have been a Nigerian involved, you will be all over the thread saying what not and acting as though you are more British than the Brits huh
As usual you are vomiting garbage, what has 'LEGITIMATE EXPECTATION' got to do with this? In what situation does LEGITIMATE EXPECTATION come into the picture?

Bullocks.

They are not criminals, they are decent people. I have to consider their mental state remember?

paris10: The title should be your main concern. Oya, start lambasting your sister and brother now. They are criminals. So, white officials working for UKBA can also be fraud?

I said this because you're always quick to label and happy to criticize any Nigerian caught for immigration offences not giving a damn about their mental state.

You haven't called them criminals yet, I'm waiting!

Yes i agree with you on that, and we should also give credit to the BHC for exposing their own officials.

I'm eager to know.
Well the nanny did not travel with them because the visa was not issued, i guess the couple would have resigned by now because their position has become untenable.

They may get couple of months jail sentence or suspended jail sentence for some yrs depending on the weight of evidences against them, but i doubt if they will hold that job again.

BUSH MAN: not bad for a nanny in the uk
Its actually bad, they would have cheated her massively, if she will be working 11hrs a day 5days a week on minimum wage then she should be going home with £338.8p per week, multiple that by 4 and see, she supposed to be paid at least £6.16 per hr by law.
Travel › Re: UKBA Officers Caught In Lagos Filing Fake Visa Application For Maid by justwise(mod): 12:03pm On Oct 16, 2012
debosky: That's even reasonable - there are many areas where the cost is close to £300 a week per child, especially for those that open early and close late. In that sense it was a fantastic plot by the officers - save nearly 3/4ths of what you would usually pay for your child. Awon Ole. grin

That's really not the point JW - the issue here is that an official that bends the rules in this fashion for his/her own benefit is likely not going to be a rational/objective assessor of applications and may treat applicants unfairly. No one is questioning the underlying principles of visa issuing, just the suitability of these individuals for such a task given their own attempts to manipulate the system.

Yes i agree with you on that, and we should also give credit to the BHC for exposing their own officials.

BetaThings: The man is saying that they don't extend the privilege to those who are more deserving, but are rigging it for somebody who is obviously not qualified

BTW - what is wrong with these people? Minimum wage for educated people is N18,000. Somebody is going to make, aside from free food and lodging, N75,000 monthly (how many graduates make that) and they are calling it pittance
They should come back for another nanny. How much are nannies making in Nigeria?
Your understanding of 'more deserving' is not the same as those immigration officers.
Travel › Re: UKBA Officers Caught In Lagos Filing Fake Visa Application For Maid by justwise(mod): 10:18am On Oct 16, 2012
Kgdavid: wrong thinking. yes it is a privilege of sorts to be granted a visa by any country and it is not mandatory to grant you one even after you meet the requirements but because the border officers are human beings and individuals they have been given guidelines in order to prevent abuses of the system such as those which occurred in the story above. so in theory the right to refuse a visa regardless of requirements being met is retained but in practice there must be justification for refusal of visas and therefore where requirements are met a visa should be granted. the country has the right to refuse you a visa but the individual immigration officer although representative of the country does not quite have the right to do so for no reason otherwise the whole system become arbitrary.
Wrong thinking but you went ahead and repeat everything i said? Outside the guildline the immigration officer has to judge whether the trip to the UK will be of any benefit to the application, e.g, if somebody with no strong tie (no good job, no business, not married) to Nigeria applies to visit the UK, even if he met all requirements his chances of getting a visa is very very limited because he has little or nothing to persuade him/her to return to Nigeria if given a visa, again..if an applicant borrowed money to boast his bank balance so as to meet the financial requirement and this applicant can not prove with paper evidence the source of that money then he stand a very little chance of getting a visa even as he met all requirements

cheleku: Did I just hear you say a privilege? Why set certain requirements then? Nna we are not talking of visa lotteries here!
Yes its a privilege, its not your right to be issued a visa, its a privilege to be given one. Requirements are there to screen your application, even at that the embassy still retain the right to refuse you a visa if they deemed it necessary.

You don't see anything wrong in cheating the system? Was the maid qualified for visa? They lied about the number of months they have employed her, the same people who are supposed to prevent fraud are engaging in one. That was the crime.

She was given 6 mths visa but stated in her application that she wished to stay 4 weeks. She came back to Nigeria after 6 mths just before her visa expired. She would like to apply again this year.I am not sure if she should write in this year application that she stayed longer than stated in her last visit or just say that she came back after 4 weeks. there is no stamp in her passport with the date of return to Nigeria. PLEASE i NEED YOUR HELP!
Was there no stamp on her passport exiting and entry Nigeria? I mean when she went back to Nigeria was her passport not stamp by immigration at the airport?

When I was 9years old I went to the uk on a invitation visa from jamaica my aunty that I went to visit decided to make me overstay I lived in the uk for 11 years. I am now 20 years old and I got Frustrated with not being able to work due to the fact I didnt have a NI number. I was on filing to come to the usa to live with my grand mother so I took the opportunity and left the uk voluntarily. Problem is im missing my home in england more than anything and I would love to be ably to go back and visit my friends and family. Im thinking about applying for a visit visa do you think I have a chance of being accepted? Or am I banned even though the decision to overstay was not mine because I was 9 years old. I appreciate any help thank you.
You committed a crime as a minor and the adult took that decision on your behalf, that will not necessarily be hold against you as long as you did not withhold that info in your application form. What is your status in US now?

You can be refused a visa even when you met all requirements, its not a right, its a privilege.
