'Reward Boko Haram'

Opposition parties and in particular those in the north, such as the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), say the government is underestimating the amount of support Boko Haram has among the population.

CPC national secretary Bubu Galadima said many people in the north felt marginalized and excluded from wealth and opportunity.

"The people are sympathetic to certain principles and ideas," he told the BBC.

"If people feel they are being denied anything or an injustice is being meted out to them then there is a likelihood that they will take the law into their own hands and help themselves."

Mr Galadima, who is from near Damaturu, where last week's attack took place, raised the case of the former militants from the oil-rich Niger Delta who were given generous financial packages from the government to keep them out of trouble.

"Why didn't the president crush the Niger Deltans? That's a questions a lot of people in this part of the country are asking," he said.

"Instead they are being rewarded for the economic destruction they brought Nigeria. Why can't the same be true for Boko Haram?"

Lcc did not build the road they added one lane to already exiting road FG would remove subsidy cos the refinenaries has been rehabilitated by fG just like Lcc rehabilitated an already existing 2 lane road and put 3 toll so am in support of subsidy removal.so pls don't give jakandes government glory to scammer fashola and his drug dealer godfada

The Lagos State Government explained the need and provided alternative routes for those who do not want to use the Lekki Toll Gate.

Those protesting are just noisemakers.

They spend more than that making unnecessary calls and sending useless text messages on their mobile phones.


Seee your mouth, which other routes do you suggest. Oniru will start collecting their own toll or simply lock their gates

@ eteks - besides the street that runs past the four points hotel are there any other access roads for people to access as you go further up the expressway at the chevron drive area? As at yesterday there was NO alternative. The road that people used to divert away from the lekki expressway traffic , talking about the alfa beach road that passes through okun-ajah and comes out around abraham adesanya estate has been destroyed by the ocean. The state government didn't do anything about despite all the warnings, it makes me wonder if they wanted that alternative extinguished. Secondly you can't bring in the falomo bridge ramp as an excuse for tolling the lekki expressway. Thirdly your "search" at the CAC is to me a case of fulfilling all bare righteousness. If I wanted to fund and control an operation of that scale, I'd be smart enough to not put my name as a director of the company. Abeg no need for too much grammar , you can't put an extra lane, do a shoddy job of rehabilitating a road and wake up to decree that everyone is bound to pay for 30yrs.

I found this while searching for references to the existence, or non, of alternative routes and was not sure of the content since I was not able to find other refs to the same.  

Any who, my question is, are any of these routes available?

The site tour took the journalists through the first completed alternative route that runs from Oba Yesufu Abiodun Oniru Road that starts shortly after the Mobil petrol station to Market Road and back on the expressway to enable residents by-pass the first toll plaza at Admiralty Circle.

The second alternative route is the 34-kilometre road at Chevron Drive out of which 1.5 kilometres have been completed while work is in progress on the remaining 1.9 kilometres.
