See ehn......if these people are as powerful as you think they will simply put the 666 in all the polio and measles vaccines that our babies take....then inside our antimalaria drugs and injections and paracetamol....then inside food....water... drinks..and even disperse it into air....
If this conspiracy is true...then there's no escaping it....we will all carry this mark and go to hell.....
Anyway wats the point anyway? ! Only logical ideas can be challenged by logic......only time can reveal conspiracy theories
Fear is always the driving force behind these theories..... fear of hell, fear of the antichrist, fear of tribulation, fear of the mark of the beast...... fear fear and fear....... its really terrible to spend your whole life living in fear....

I understand the zeal for christianity but criticizing and condemning islam because of things that the old testament bible says God did and agreed with is hypocrisy....
Focus on preaching christ because there is little or nothing that you hate and are disgusted about in Islam that God didnt agree to in the old testament.... unless you want to denounce the God of the OT; then you should state that too....
It reeks of insincerity.... let it go
The Christian argument against islam for violence, genocide, conquest, slavery doesnt hold water as the God of the OT was ok with these things. At best you can opine that they are stuck with God of the past and havent upgraded to the latest software....
One of the problems many people that want to become atheists have is that their concept of God is rooted in the religions which are largely Abrahamic thus when the tenets of the religions fall short of logic and rationality they disregard the religion and decide that there is no God.
That is however a poor logical progression because the one undisputable quality of the supreme being is that He is the creator.
The concepts of God being nice, kind, merciful and loving are all concepts in religion but regardless of religion, the concept of God is that he is the creator.
You cannot conclude that there is no God until you can conclude with all surety that it is impossible for this universe to have had a creator.
While it is currently impossible to make such a conclusion then the logical answer is " I don't know"
That the religious books and practices are faulty does not mean there is no God. It may just be that he is not who you thought he was....
Atheism is not a position of knowledge or logic. It's a position of faith.
No one can unfailingly and repeatedly prove or disprove the existence or not of the supreme being by knowledge. Its not logically possible until the day God comes down and says "Hello everyone ! Its me your creator "
Until then the logical argument is stale mated in agnoticism which states that "We dont know if there is God"
Thus it is not very wise for anyone to conclude with all assurance that "There is no God"
englishmart: 1.Jesus is the only way to God, John 14:6 This invariably means those who don't believe in Jesus have no business in heaven. Christians worldwide have an estimated population of 2.4billion people Islam records an estimate of 1.9 billion adherents, Hindu has an estimated 1.1bn adherents. The remaining world's population have their own beliefs which includes atheism. If Jesus is the only way to God, what happens to those who don't believe in him? Hell? Well, the Bible suggests so.
2. There are a lot of complications and contradictory remarks in the Bible- a verse says don't drink, another says "Drink for your stomach sake", or "Do not drink wherein excess." Malachi 3:10 a famous Bible verse on tithing speaks about bringing your tithe to the storehouse (church, maybe) Deuteronomy 14:22-26 says otherwise, it says "you should drink and be merry with your tithe". I'm seriously beginning to doubt the credibility of the Bible. Maybe the translators' fault or God told writers different stories on the same issue. Read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John's account of Jesus and see real contradictions.
3. Does God answer prayers? Well, I'm not really sure about that. Someone might be suffering from malaria, the person takes drugs and still prays, the drugs work, but the person thanks God. Or a successful surgical operation, instead of thanking the doctor, they thank God. Some illnesses that would have been treated led to deaths because a certain congregation who were supposed to take the ill persons to the hospital, circled around praying. Faith without work isn't it still dead? I remember when I had stomach ulcer, it was really terrible, I prayed and made several promises to God that if He took away the ulcer, I'd drink no more alcohol and will be more devout in worshipping Him. That didn't solve anything though, I stopped drinking and took to taking my drugs more seriously. Weeks later, I was well. I returned to drinking and after a few months, the ulcer resurfaced. That was when I realized I really needed to quit drinking. Prayers wouldn't have solved that issue. I spent 80% of 2019 at home because of my misgivings about God's existence. I really wish I could be convinced about God's existence because I'm not even happy to be away from Church because of the views of friends and family.
4. Children of God, or so called children of God tend to suffer more tribulations, hard times and desperate moments, a lot of them scream "Vanity upon Vanity" when secular people live in luxury or spend extravagantly. God tends to turn his back on those who worship Him especially when they need Him most. The 1933 Holocaust and mass murder of Jews to the tone of 6m was a clear indication that God turns His eyes against His people Repulsive comments are highly welcome
Your submission is best summarised as 4 reasons not to be a christian or a religionist.
The mis representation or poor representation of the supreme being by religions do not affect the existence of a Supreme being
The argument that everything(the different galaxies, moons and planets) appeared out of nothing is not a very strong argument.
It is more likely that something caused them to be. Maybe all the different creation stories are just summaries of what actually caused everything to be. Maybe the process of creation actually took a very long time enough to fit into the theory of evolution.
Maybe the whole process started with a big bang orchestrated by a particular being...
No one can logically prove or disprove this. No one can logically prove or disprove the existence of a supreme being. You can only question it and ofcourse question his motives and actual desires
Disproving the image of God as captured by various religions is easy.
But disproving that a supreme being started the big bang for whatever reasons is impossible.
I doubt questioning God's existence is a sin though. I dont think gullibility is a virtue
But making a definite conclusion that there is no God despite your inability to logically prove it doesnt sound very intelligent.
olumzzz: Me too o. Introduced my friends to it, now they are addicted. It's so exciting, especially when the car has to shift gears and accelerate more on its own maybe to climb a hill
Please explain this cruise control let me try and use it too.... where is the button?
mrvitalis: Give them their oil let them decide who manages Their resources
North just appointed idiots , set them up to fail let them look incompetent all to discredit the call for resources control
You seem to actually believe this..... One would think that the governors of niger delta have managed the resources well and developed the states or are the governors also appointed by the north?
A niger deltan was president for 6yrs. I think you should have a re-think.
The current minister of Niger delta was a former niger delta governor...... i wonder which idiots you feel are been appointed.
I agree with Apostle Paul, Do your secular work alongside ministry unless God expressly commands you not to work.
The last i heard of Apostle Arome Osayi was that he will continue his secular work alongside ministry until God tells him to stop secular work. This he said he heard expressly from the Lord
I think this pattern is easier to accept for people that have solid white collar or blue collar jobs or solid businesses though....
What matters most is What God is saying.....and if you dont know what God is saying about it then atleast how has God worked with others in the past?
Morris2967: Bro it does in many aspects even science has comfirm things they previous disagree with the Bible. A clear example is that of the shape of the earth previous scientist believe that the earth is flat and hagging on a big elephant. But bible maintain his stand that the earth hag on nothing thousands of years later, scientists come to agree with what the Bible has said long time ago.
Ahhh..... science ke..... how can scientists believe that the world is hanging on a big elephant...haba.... it is not scientifically sensible that the world can hang on an elephant..
Maybe myths legends and folk tales likely from Asia where elephants were popular. Definitely not science
To be plain..... Chritianity Judaism and Islam all worship the same God. The God of Abraham.
The issue of whether one group missed some updates or downloaded viruses along the line is the bone of contention here.
Every group believes that the other group has failed to download the latest updates of the God of Abraham and has downloaded all sorts of viruses. Thus their teachings, beliefs, mode of worship and practices differ greatly
Either way all three religions worship the God of Abraham.
The government can bear the expensive cost of governance and funding of traditional rulers and pilgrimages to mecca and Jerusalem but cannot fund subsidy. Rubbish
They should cut those costs before considering subsidy.
If money isnt lost to subsidy it will be lost to looting.... The common man will benefit more from subsidy than looted funds
pemisire017: Towards the end of last year, I was confused about a certain area of my life’s purpose. I knew what God wanted me to do with my life but I was stuck somewhere in the middle. For days, I prayed for Clarity and sought God’s direction. Everything seemed blurred. You remember how Jesus touched the eyes of that blind man and he saw men like trees? That was how it was for me. I knew I was close to my answers but I wanted to be sure of what to do. At the beginning of this year, I got invited to be part of a big project that’d not only bring me plenty of cash but would get my name out there in the world. But I felt a restraint in my spirit not to accept it. That made me more confused. This was something I could do well and I had the skills needed for the job. Sincerely, it added to my worries from last year. My flesh wanted to do what it wanted but the Holy Spirit had other plans. Is it that God didn’t want me taking those kind of jobs? What exactly does he require in carrying out that part of my life? Then I got talking with my friend and shared my worries with him. For about three hours or more we chatted and he said things that suddenly brought my heart to a place of rest on that issue. His own experiences of walking in God’s instruction brought peace to my heart. It was clearly the Holy Spirit in him bearing witness to what my spirit already knew. After the discussion, as I settled in the place of my communion, I suddenly received a deeper understanding from scriptures that tied up to our discussion. It was so real. Those scriptures practically jumped right out of the pages of the Word. My struggle over that area ended. Please stay with me. I’m going somewhere. A similar situation happened yesterday. For some months now, I’ve been penning down the thoughts I perceive in my heart, whether or not I heard clearly. I believed that with time, I’d be able to sift the chaff from the wheat. What was this perception all about? An outreach had been ringing in my heart as part of the instructions for my life but I’d been doubting if it was birthed by the Holy Spirit or just a conception of my mind. I wrote the details down in my journal and forgot about it. Because of some past experiences that didn’t go well, I didn’t believe that what I heard was from God. Just yesterday, after church, I had lunch with my friend and you won’t believe she talked about the outreach using words similar to what I’d received. Immediately, my heart went back to what God said to me. I was stunned beyond words. I just sat there staring at her mouth. How did she know I’d been battling with questions on this issue? You know the interesting part. As we kept talking about purpose and life in general, I felt led to share a scripture with her and immediately I did, my friend almost jumped out of her seat. I had given her a scripture that settled a lingering issue in her heart. That meeting was a blessing to both of us. These were just my friends. Imagine if you had a partner who is God’s means of confirming his thoughts on critical matters as you walk this journey of life. While I understand that having a partner who is sold out to God contributes to your spiritual growth and makes it easy to fight spiritual warfare, one of the greatest benefits I am seeing about partnerships like this, is the role played in pulling your thoughts back on track when self becomes dominant. I also see it as God’s instruments in providing clarity during the times when your mind is clogged and you can’t seem to draw from the leading in your spirit Here is the gospel truth; in this world, we will be faced with many challenges. There will be days when we want to jump out when God wants us to wait. There will be days when we know what God is saying to us in our spirit but our minds can’t properly conceive it. But this man, your spouse, who has trained his senses to receive from the Holy Spirit will be right there reminding you of God’s revealed word. Even when you don’t want to listen to God’s voice because your heart calls for something else, that woman knows how to go on her knees on your behalf praying that your eyes be enlightened and that you’ll come to your senses. Have you not heard of a believer bent on walking out of God’s will but one morning, he wakes up and suddenly realizes he’s been going the wrong path? The wife just looks up and says, ‘thank you Jesus.’ However this can only become a reality when the lovebirds are deliberate about their personal relationship with God and not just dependent on the other for their spiritual walk. When your quiet time with God is not dependent on his or when we don’t only find you praying because bro dished out prayer points. Do you know what happens when only one party in the relationship is deliberate about the pursuit of a deep relationship with God? It becomes a daunting task to stay afloat when the strong party feels down and weak. I saw this as I meditated on the story of the children of Israel in the wilderness. When God provided manna for them, they were excited but along the way, the foreigners they had brought with them from Egypt rose up and began to complain about the manna. The Israelites who were already weary joined in. Then the Egyptians who had come with them began to long for the good things of Egypt. This added to the discontent of the people and they wept! ‘Oh for the few bites of meat! Oh that we had some of the delicious fish we enjoyed so much in Egypt…now our strength is gone, and day after day, we have to face this manna. Numbers 11:4,5 LB Dear singles, If that relationship you are in is constantly pulling you out of trust and confidence in God, maybe it’s time to let it go. We are products of influence. When you have a partner whose eyes are fixed on Christ, serving Jesus becomes easier. When the storms come and there is a great temptation to step away, one person has enough grace to pull the other back on track. Why do you want to end up with a man who constantly sneers at your decision to stay with God’s instruction? I believe strongly that, where individuals in a relationship are actively allowing the Holy Spirit bear roots in their hearts, at different stages of their lives when one party does not seem to hold up, the other person can stand in the gap. Singles, we need men who will hold our hands and together live the Spirit-filled life. We need ladies who rather than gossip and nag about a situation will stay in the place of communion and seek wisdom on what to do. How do you find a partner whose heart is committed to the Lord? How do you avoid ending up with a carnal, professing Christian who has nothing at the roots except that they are diligent workers in the church, breathes exegesis and have acquired an amazing track record of prayer life while their hearts are stubborn and hardened. The answer lies with you. Yes, you. It is not enough to pray for a man like this. Be a woman chasing after God. It is not sufficient to desire a woman who will help you fulfil God’s promises, your communion and relationship with your Father must be consistent too. This consistent relationship with the Lord is the key to discernment. You will not be carried away by words, charm, position because your heart is fixed on Him. You’d have trained your senses to discern the right from wrong through feeding on the solid meat (Hebrews 5:14) Even when your emotions seem to be moving you towards a wrong direction, because your heart is surrendered to God’s will, walls will be erected as obstacles and you’ll find yourself turning your focus back to the Lord. As singles, our business is not to chase after some man in clean tuxedo outfit. We are not commissioned to jump from one person to another, figuring with our head who looks like wife material. Run after God. Crave a relationship with him. You’ll be amazed at the God-chasing, warm hearted, heaven minded, God’s love carrier, broken spirited gentleman or lady God will bring to your doorstop. You can never go wrong with God behind the wheels of your life
Goddys: I had a dream where I moved back in 1982. I queried a man I met and asked him what year it was because everything seemed so unorganized and he said July 1982.
I told him I was from 2020 and narrated some of the recent development in the world to him. I convinced him to help me prove that the experience was real by introducing me to one his young children with her name so that I searched for her details online when I woke up. He was asking me "what is online" cuz he was just a petty artisan.
He obliged me. When I woke up and searched for the full name on Facebook, it appeared and the surprising thing was that it was the same very young fair girl that the father introduced to me in my dream that I saw his profile photo as an adult. The facial features are still the same.
I have sent friend request to the girl and she is yet to accept and I also saw that the village the father mentioned in my dream was the same village in her profile.
It defies logic but believe me, everything that has happened in the past and things that will happen in the future are all happening at the moment simultaneously. Our existence as humanity is very likely a projection that has all already taken place and being replayed.
When reflecting on this, my experience was reinforced by the fact that some soothsayers and psychics can be able to tell the past and the future.
I am very much convinced and wish for this experience of time travel to occur again but I have no control over what I dream. I don't know how to make it reoccur
Always seeing the bads sides of life such persons don't see anything good in life again and as such they want the world to end quickly so that they can fly to heaven
No matter what happens we don't give up they is hope for the future.
Even if the world were to end tommorrow i will still plant my apple tree ---(Abraham Lincoln)

The overwhelming odds are that everyone of us currently in this world at this point in time will die before the coming of Christ. Chances are that we are not going to suddenly take one flight to heaven....
OLAADEGBU: If you read it in its context you will see the import of the message. It is adjudged consensual if the lady involved does not shout for help but if she does it is considered as rape. The sexual sins depicted in these verse include adultery, fornication (consensual) and rape (non consensual). If the sexual activity took place in the city or town the lady is expected to shout for help for folks to rescue her but if she doesn't cry out for help that shows that it was consensual, that they were just making out.
If the lady is not engaged to the man but they are just secretly having sex and they are caught in the act as in the case in verses 28 and 29 then they will be forced to do a quick marriage (shotgun wedding).
My advise is that you read up or at least Google Shotgun Wedding for better understanding.
Funny guy.....u love the idea of shot gun marraige so much that you dont mind forcing an explanation for it in the bible....
Wetin concern me..... those pictures are cute sha...... double barreled gun behind that couple......the father of the bride holding a gun behind a couple....cool stuff..
Shot gun marraige is real....parents force young people to marry when they catch them having sex....although pregnancy is the most common gun to the head...... it is sha not what Deuteronomy 22 is talking about.....
If you dont like what Good news bible said just discredit the translation and let everybody go and sleep.......not wasting everybody's time with pictures and gist about shotgun marraige
OLAADEGBU: That is half truth and a lie. The sex committed with the non engaged lady in verses 28 to 29 is consensual and the previous verse shows us that God gives the death sentence to rapists.
You should try and mention the chapter and verse so that we can know which book you are addressing. The book is Deuteronomy, chapter 22, from verses 22-29.
This is consensual sex between a married woman and a man, which is punishable by a death sentence.
This is also consensual sex with a woman who is engaged to another man. This is also punishable by death.
This sex is not consensual and is thus termed rape. The man only is to be put to death here. It is stated clearly in verse 27 that God gives the death sentence to rapists.
The authorised version got it right here. It says:
"If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give to the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he has humbled her, he may not put her away all his days" (Deuteronomy 22:28-29).
This is what is called a shotgun wedding. You can see from the verses above that it was consensual here. They were caught in the act (they were found). The fact that the lady did not raise an alarm shows that that they were having consensual sex with the man not willing to commit to a life time commitment in marriage. He was enjoying the benefit of marriage without committing to marriage. If they are caught the man is obligated to a shotgun wedding. Wedding by force, as you may.
Your argument is with the Good news bible translation and not me....
Good news called it rape and in the same verses 28 to 29 they stated that the man forced her to have intercourse with him and then concluded that he should marry her.
I have only quoted them. You are free to discredit the translation if you dont like the way they said it.... afterall no be me write am
BackllGodNaija: Without The Omniscient, Science Would Be Silent
What is science?
According to the Collins dictionary, Science is the study of the nature and behaviour of natural things and the knowledge that we obtain about them.
It's this same knowledge that is obtained via studying the nature and behavior of natural things that is applied for science to be able to replicate or reproduce the same or similar results.
This proves that without the study of the nature and behavior of natural things, science wouldn't be able to achieve any of such results. So science needs the natural things to be able to produce anything.
The "natural things' in question essentially refers to the creation of God, however the consequent results achieved by science via its study is what some yet believe provides the most valid basis to deny the existence of God. However, little do they know that whenever they did so, they're actually achieving the exact opposite, because science itself is a proof of God's existence, for without God who is the source of the creation from whence science obtains its knowledge, science could do nothing.
So science itself is actually a student in God's school, a researcher in God's field, trying to study and learn from God's creation, so that it could unravel the methods and applications of God, to enable it replicate or apply the acquired knowledge accordingly.
The ability of science is restricted to the extent to which it has learnt from God's school, and the recent instance of Covid-19 exposed its limitations and showed that despite the many results it has achieved, that science still had a lot to learn.
Even the little knowledge that science had been able to acquire from its study of God's creation wouldn't have been possible had God hidden the knowledge and not made it accessible. For then, studying God's creation would have been a futile venture, but God did not hide it but made it accessible as in the instance of the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the garden of Eden (Genesis 2:9), which made it possible to obtain knowledge from God's creation via study.
Daniel 12:4 (KJV)
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
God the Creator is the one who determines how much knowledge is accessible via His creation at any point in time, hence His saying that at the end time, 'knowledge shall increase", which is exactly what is playing out at this time. [/b]However God ensured that the increase in knowledge was spearheaded by the obedient as they were distinguished from their rebelliousness peers. Therefore despite that science produces many rebellious scientists, the greatest scientists that the world has ever known were God's.[/b]
* Noah built an ark (cargo ship) in accordance with the Lord's instructions, and age-for-age it is by far the greatest technological masterpiece the world has ever seen. Genesis 6:14-16
* Joseph the son of Jacob, was considered the wisest man in the land of ancient Egypt, the first ever world power and one of the first civilizations on Earth. He engineered a means (Egyptian pyramids) to store and preserve food for seven full years without power supply, which was able to cater for the whole of humanity and crucially preserve their lives during the severe Earthwide famine that lasted for seven consecutive years. Genesis 41:33-44
* The scientists' quartet of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, were found to "ten times better" than all their fellow scientists, in ancient Mesopotamia, the first civilization on Earth. It was during their time that the famous "hanging gardens" which is regarded to be the greatest wonder of the ancient world was built for King Nebuchadnezzar in the ancient city of Babylon. Daniel 1:17-20
* There is also the instance of Isaac Newton of the modern world, who is considered to be the greatest and most influential scientist of all time.
These given Instances among others illustrate how God used the obedient to sparehead the increase of knowledge He foretold concerning the end time, because it was these pillars of science that form the basis of the increase of knowledge we see today.
Yet today, credit for the increase of knowledge was being ignorantly abscribed to science instead of God the one who made it possible. However God has shown overtime that He always had a way of puncturing that illusion wherever the need arises, as in the instance of the Covid-19 pandemic which exposed the limitations of science, and showed that science was just a student of the Omniscient's school, and that without Him science would be silent.
But this is just the beginning, because there are many more to come and it would not stop until the day credit is rightfully given where credit is due.
God bless Nigeria.
Covid-19 is an overkill......afterall people recover with or without treatment. HIV and Cancers are enough to show that science doesnt even claim to be perfect.
Science is ever evolving and progressing and in the next hundred years many problems of today will have been solved and ofcourse new problems will have sprung up.
I dont think any sensible person can compare science with an almighty that created the universe. Such an argument is doomed to fail from the onset.......unless ofcourse the person doesnt believe that an almighty created the universe in which case there is no basis for comparison.
OLAADEGBU: Wrong. "A non bethrothed lady" belongs to her family, community and nation, you cannot rape and then marry her. The penalty for rape in this context is death. If you had properly studied the verses in the OP you would have discovered that the sex between them was consensual and the enforced marriage is what is called a 'Shotgun Wedding.'
This is Good news translation below....and its saying the same thing;
Rape an engaged lady and die, rape a non engaged lady and marry her.
22 “If a man is caught having intercourse with another man's wife, both of them are to be put to death. In this way you will get rid of this evil.
23 “Suppose a man is caught in a town having intercourse with a young woman who is engaged to someone else. 24 You are to take them outside the town and stone them to death. She is to die because she did not cry out for help, although she was in a town, where she could have been heard. And the man is to die because he had intercourse with someone who was engaged. In this way you will get rid of this evil.
25 “Suppose a man out in the countryside rapes a young woman who is engaged to someone else. Then only the man is to be put to death; 26 nothing is to be done to the woman, because she has not committed a sin worthy of death. This case is the same as when one man attacks another man and murders him. 27 The man raped the engaged woman in the countryside, and although she cried for help, there was no one to help her.
28 “Suppose a man is caught raping a young woman who is not engaged. 29 He is to pay her father the bride price of fifty pieces of silver, and she is to become his wife, because he forced her to have intercourse with him. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.
Kobojunkie: Do not muzzle the work oxen... you are allowed to eat but none of that speaks to collecting a salary.
You work for God so depend on God, not those who God sent you to, to pay you money for your service. Paul does not make the rules, God does. And nowhere does Jesus Christ command His disciples to collect payment of any kind from those He sent them out to preach to. Jesus Christ never said this! He said they could eat, not get paid by their flock. The flock does not owe them that. God does and He is the one they ought to look to for their payment, not the sheep they are in fact meant to Feed and Care for. Well, you are free to catch up on the comments so far!
So your point is that Pastors should carry their wives and children to people's houses to beg for food daily..... how do they get clothes? How do they pay school fees for children? How do they buy books?
Scratch that ! You probably dont care about all that...
Dont bother replying my message. I get your point and you are free to keep it.
“Where is, ‘Thou shalt not rape’…?” —Pat C., Facebook question
While the Bible doesn’t say, “Thou shalt not rape” in the Ten Commandments, it is summed up in the essence of the moral Law, which says to love your neighbour as yourself. Love does not rape.
Hebrew criminal law considered rape such a serious crime that rapists were to be put to death:
“But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die” (Deuteronomy 22:25, KJV).
Yet there are some who believe that the Scriptures say that the victim of the rapist had to marry him. He wasn’t to be punished, but to be rewarded with the woman as his prize. Here is the verse used to justify that belief:
“If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and LAY HOLD ON HER, and lie with her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days”(Deuteronomy 22:28-29, KJV, caps added).
Unbelievably, (in the light of the previous verse saying that a rapist was to be put to death) a number of modern translations interpret “lay hold on her” as rape.
The Hebrew word “tapas” means to “take hold of something,” to grasp it in hand, and (by application) to capture or seize something.
In Genesis 4:21, it used for “handling” the flute.
If a man raped a woman, he was to be put to death. Killed. That means he is dead (no longer alive), and a dead man can’t marry the woman he raped. He can’t marry her because he’s dead.
So for those who can figure out that dead men don’t marry women, coupled with the fact that the verse says “if THEY be found,” implying both were guilty, this verse obviously refers to consensual sex.
It’s similar to what we nowadays call a “shotgun” wedding. They had to get married.
the difference is bethrothed versus not bethrothed.
A bethrothed lady already belongs to someone. So if you rape her you die.
A non bethrothed lady belongs to to one. If you rape her you keep her.
Web version states it like this
But if out in the country a man happens to meet a girl pledged to be married and rapes her, only the man who has done this shall die.
If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. [3] He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.
This verse below is the closest thing to consensual sex and the punishment is not shotgun marriage.. .its death
23 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, 24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death--the girl because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man's wife. You must purge the evil from among you
