Hi, I have a problem with my honda city 2008 model. Who is familiar with this model?

It moves and accelerates perfectly but when I try to accelerate past some speed, about gear 4 i think, it makes some humming noise when I march the gas and mever picks. If i remove my leg the noise stops. Our mechanic is saying it’s gearbox. Is it gearbox?

The vehicle is 4 cylinders and 8 plugs, also uses CVT automatic transmission. Thanks gurus

Yes it is gearbox. But CVTs don't actually have ranges so you may not know exactly where this disengagement occurs.

Salon is cheaper to setup and run; has higher ROI, but you need to install camera(s).

I forgot to mention these two symptoms below

The D light blinks just as the issue happens most of the time (blinks as gear disengages)

And when I’m on speed and slowing down the gear sort of ‘jerks’ while it downshifts only into gear 1

My transmission fluid was a little bit over gauged (by half an inch at most) when it was changed over a year and a half ago but it had been driving okay before now. It’s still that way because I’m scared of anyone tampering with that fluid

These symptoms started only 2 wwwks ago but now it’s getting worse as it occurs more frequently now

My gut feeling tells me whatever is causing this is external to your gear. Did you carry out any repair prior to this problem? Are there rodent dung in your engine bay?

The gear works okay but whenever I get to a bumpy/bad wobbly stretch of road and the car goes through it my gear disengages and if I depress the throttle the engine only revs until I restart the car and it all works fine again but when I hit the next patch of bad road the same issue arises again

Please what might be causing this problem? I feel it’s a component not properly put in place/loose but I don’t know where to start looking and there’s no mechanic with a scan tool around me here in Kebbi. It’s a 2004 accord i4

NB. Please if someone posts a solution and you have another view be good enough to also chip in. I need help from all angles as this is making me be afraid of bad roads, speed bumps and portholes because my gear will misbehave instead of because my ball joints might give way

This needs a scanner, and I don't have the faintest idea how it works in Kebbi. Start by physically checking around the gearbox for any lose cable/connector.

You need to have your car checked by a competent tech. Don't start with changing the oil. He needs to see what the computer is commanding first.

A 'palm oil' that worked before engine swap should work afterwards, all things being equal.

An electrical problem would never cause a transmission to slip out. Never seen any. Most likely cause is mechanical as a result of using wrong trans fluid. What type of fluid have you been using. Palm oil?

You seem to always think that atf is the major cause of auto transmission problems. Atf change DOES NOT solve transmission problems.

Disconnect the solenoid (10pin) connector and see if you get the reverse engagement bang.

Hello everyone,

I have a Toyota 2003 Camry bought direct tokunbo last year that is giving me issues.
This car shift roughly from gear 2 to 3 with serious noise (gbi) that is very obvious. And this same noise occur on REVERSE TOO,
this noise on reverse comes up when the gear is shift on reverse and when trying to accelerate then the noise comes up gbi gbi
I have trying every possible means to let this noise stop but all to no availed
PLS the problem is not from the gear itself because I HAVE REPLACED THE GEAR WITH TOKUNBO ,I ALSO REPLACED THE BRIAN BOX, AND SOME OF THE ENGINE MOUNT,
still this roughly shift from 2 to 3 still there with the noise GBI
PLS people in the house any one with this experience? Or any auto technicians that can help detect and fix this issues perfectly ?

I feel your pain on this. An obvious misdiagnosis. That is where the trick in auto transmission diagnosis comes in - is it inside or outside the box? The possibility of two different boxes to have exact same symptoms is very slim. There are external factors.
