sacramento1212: Correct, but i doubt you can get an original KYB for 40k or 45k because that price isn't realistic. The prices are there on amazon.com excluding shipping and other charges. Comparing online prices now, I think 40/45k is within range. Coscharis has the franchise here, and these local resellers buy from them. I am sure Coscharis could get better bargain than smaller Amazon resellers. |

AutoElectNG: I think the first year repair is free
Subsequent years you pay for labor and parts
Thermocool is a brand of PZ Nigeria PLC.
You can't go wrong on a thermocool generator.
And while they are built in China, they are built well and the company is willing to stand by their product.
I have several...modesty does not all me mention the number...but this has been my experience with the brand for some 5 years A shame they now do everything in China. A retired senior engineer in PZ told me that in the early days, the only refrigerator part PZ imported was compressors. Every other thing was made locally. All the moulds were here in Illupeju, and there were talks about sending young Engineers abroad to learn compressor manufacturing. It was a rude shock for him to come back years later and discovere that everything is now imported. All those farbrication workshops gone. They are just marketers. Was at their showroom yesterday, and for 15 minutes I spent waiting for a picture to be sent to me, nobody entered. Sad. |

sacramento1212: Kyb is not even original Toyota brand but just that it's better than other brands sold in the market. If Kyb is being sold for 50k, the Toyota will be sold for close to 100k. Kyb is one of Toyota's OEM suppliers. Others are Bilstein and Tokico. It depends on application and region. The issue is getting original kyb. When they make for manufacturers, it is branded accordingly, and the prices are very high. When they make for aftermarket, they come in their own names, and cheaper. They don't compromise on the AM quality though. |

CHISPAREPARTS: That's the problem with Nigerians but when you explain to them they won't hear. Parts are divided into three categories OEM aftermarket and pre owned what is popularly called direct tokunbo. OEM parts are very expensive thats why they are rarely bought in because no one buys them. Why should I buy a pair of shocks for 200k when I could get a pre owned one for 10k and a low quality aftermarket one for 15k. I won't touch a used shock, even for free. My last experience was installing a pair in Lagos, and having both go flat on getting to the East next day! |

I went to a legit Toyota shop to get some parts price quote for my Corolla Sport. Ordinary Stabilizer link i dey for 3500 is 40k, front shock absorber is 140k, back shock is 180k. I pick my car up, put am for head am ran as fast as I can. LOL! But those branded shops markup to high heavens. I doubt if the original shocks are that expensive. I am currently looking for original kyb. Was told 45k for front and 40k for rear, having doubts....the kyb I installed in the front did not last |

Tekkyy: I am the owner of the car. It was my mechanic that told me about the leather problem. If gear leather is bad, does it mean the gear box is totally bad and cannot be repaired? Bro, I am not sure why you have chosen to ignore sound advices here - replace your gearbox! There is no leather in your gearbox, it's either you misheard your mechanic, or he miscommunicated. No reverse (usually last to go) and binding or slipping forward and mechanical NOISES. Not looking good for a 40k rebuild. Don't go that route. The noise means something may have broken inside, and I can bet you have metal pieces in the pan. Depending on how long you may have been testing this vehicle after this failure, these may have found their way into the cooler lines. You may need to replace the radiator with the gear, to avoid a failure. SIR, DO NOT REPAIR THAT GEAR IN YOUR BEST INTEREST. |
Car Talk › Re: Throttle Sensor Always Getting Bad by Kashif(m): 7:31am On Apr 08, 2018 |
obekediamondfuto: house I dont think this is a case of parts changed... the probability of 3 different failures arising from inferior parts is...... quite low.... very very low. seems like an electrical issue.
1. if vehicle is not flooded then the issue might be an intermittent issue... most likely a short or a wrong ground connection. two popular scenarios can play out here.
2. first scenario, fuse went out.. mechanic told u its the throttle sensor and u paid for it. mecho fused throttle fuse with copper wire and installed it back. vehicle works and when the issue starts... fuse that should blow doesn't blow cos it has been overridden. then sensor gets the extremely high current and gets damaged.
3 second scenario.... vehicle enters limp mode after a period of drive cycles. mecho removes battery terminals when installing a new one. ecu resets and codes are temporarily cleared then vehicle is driven till it reaches its threshold for that particular limp code... when it throws the code, it's deactivates the throttle sensor and it feels like a damaged sensor
u see the importance of scanning a vehicle? in fact frsc should mandate it... like fire extinguisher
whether u know how to use it or not just have it in the car
I might be wrong though. 100 likes |

maureen44: If not at the mill, where else is oil produced. 2 reasons why your oil may not have good shelf is 1. if it contain water, 2.if it contains what we call fiber. During the process of extracting oil from the palm fruit the first set of oil that comes out is what we call first grade oil, this oil have very good shelf life and taste, without odour even if stored for 2 years.
The second and last sets of oil that comes out is what we call second trade which may not have good shelf life like u noted and may even have taste and odour if stored for a longer time. Their prices might be slightly different. You can call me on 08064610560 for more clarification. Another thing is monitoring the guys at the mill while they are processing your request to avoid any sharp practice. I come from part of the SE where oil mills are less than 10 years old. So, palm oil have always been extracted the traditional way - long wooden mortar, pestle and the rest. Labour intensive, smaller product, but premium. These ones, the oil is the same colour, viscosity and taste from top of the container to the bottom. No need to shake while using it. More expensive. Problem is you just can't get it in large quantity! I will ring you. |

Dokidoki: hello car gurus I need your expert opinion about my vehicle. I noticed on cold start(in the morning or after bn parked for about 8hrs),the vehicle transmission does nt enter drive(it enters reverse gear easily).it gives a sound similar to bn in neutral gear(possibly it slips to N). I am able to overcome the slip by raising RPM to about 3+ and it then enters drive with a loud thump.afterwhich the car drives normal throughout the day , selecting all gears smoothly and as appropriate(ofcourse until it's parked for another 8hrs plus nd I av to force it into drive gear again) I also noticed that when I move to drive gear in the morning and I depress the brakes for about 7-9seconds ,d car shifts into gear with a mild thump nd am good for the day. I also have bn able to overcome the early morning problem by allowing the vehicle to warm in the morning for about 10minutes(when I do that car shifts smoothly from start) I have changed my transmission oil(T4) and av even cleaned d gear filter with no difference.am yet to scan d transmission but I will appreciate suggestions from experts in the house. my mechanic here says it's valve body.another one said I shld change d gear while fingers av also bn pointed at gear selector and sensors. vehicle is Toyota Camry 2003 V6. I just remembered problem started after I used my battery to start someone's car nd my RPM became low so I had d Mech increase it temporarily till it normalise which happened nd gave me high rpm... though I tried reducing it bt it's still higher than normal(could dt be related to d gear issue I started experiencing afterwards?)

all other car gurus ur advise is needed. Tell your mechanic to take your engine idle speed back to original setting (however he did it). The higher than normal engine idle speed is causing issues. After you used your battery to jumpstart another car, your car lost volatile memory where stuffs like engine control mapping is stored. All that was needed was to drive the car for some time to relearn. Na you cause your wahala. |

dino2006: Good mrnin bosses.
Quite interesting stuffs to learn here. I have a somewhat similar issue with my camry 2000.
Beginin frm a point of rest, my engine revs very high when shifting frm gear 1 to 2, it kld get as high as 4500rpms provided i throttle hard, takin some few seconds before it engages frm 1 to 2. However, if i suddenly take my foot off the pedal, it engages immediately.
Transition from gear 2-3, 3-4, 4-5 is smooth while car is already on speed. I tried the 'driving uphill test', car kept on moving slowly and engine did not rev high.
My mechanic thought the atf oil filter may be blocked, so he loosed d oil filter when engine was cold, and put a new atf but problem has persisted.
What could be the problem pls? Cc kashif Cc mayor2013 Scan the car. Did you say you have 5th gear? |

mayor2013: Calibration of gear is possible on the MB, BMW were VGS and EGS respectively needs to be relearned in cases where transmissions are changed, where TCM are replaced and if one or 2 transmission components are replaced. These 2 control units have mentioned up there are integral parts of the transmission. In a case of a Toyota Camry 2005 no TCM all commands come from the pcm. If you replace pcm when you do the down programming transmission starts working without going into any fail safe mode. No reset of adaptive values on transmission is possible on a Toyota Camry 2005 sir Did I mention adaptive reset for this car? In this context, calibration=software=programming=logic done by Toyota on how the transmission works before it leaves their factory! You cannot modify it. I leave you to christen where this logic is stored in - TCM, ECU, PCM, ECM, but know that it is stored somewhere the processor(s) can access it. All you can do is reflash ECU with updated calibration if it is available. Are you now saying that all Toyotas that have adaptive memory reset functionality have a separate TCM? Its obvious you have never seen this 'problem' before, the reason you think it was cable, filter etc. I really do not see any other way to explain this to you. : |
Car Talk › Re: Auto Tanny Goes To Neutral While Cruising by Kashif(m): 9:58am On Mar 09, 2018 |
adanny01: From my understanding of OPs description, i would guess either a slipping gear or a kick down problem.
I experienced both with a 1996 Honda accord and my friend experienced slipping problem with his 2008 Honda accord.
The old accord would instead of shifting down to 2 after slowing down, it shifts to 1 which may be too low for the speed but instantly shifts to 2. So it shifts from say 4 - 1 - 2 instead of 4 - 2. The same car slips when changing from 3-4. It down shifts 4-3 normally but Revs up for some seconds before shifting to 4. During the high rev if foot is removed from accelerator, gear shifts to 4 immediately.
My friends car too revs up when shifting 1-2. In his case both down and up shifting to 2 will rev up the engine until foot is removed from accelerator or it takes about 5-10secs before engaging the gear.
I concluded engine revving up for up to 7secs before gear is engaged maybe slipping. My friend repaired his by changing a seal inside the transmission. Of course it was taken apart completely. I guess OP's problem is slipping at downshift to 2.
Cc Kashif Oga, this man's gear is not slipping. If it is, the atf will show it. He confirmed atf is still fresh, which does not happen in a slipping gear. It is just the way it was designed to behave. In transmission shift timing/feel issues, the first step is in seeing what the computer is commanding. OP can go for live data analysis if he so wishes but, I can't remember if the neutral feel ever shows there. If it is exactly as described by him, he has no issue per se. It is easy to mistake this for a problem. |
