Hello guys in the house. i need help with my car(camry LE....2007). i am having gear issues and i need advice on what to do. it started 3weeks ago after my mechanic changed the metal bearing in my car and he brought in back with gear issues. when i put it n drive it moves well but struggles to switch to gear 3. took it to a mechanic they said "gear sensor" and another said the gear box is bad. pls if anyone in the house knows a gear specialist or suggestions as to fixing the issue pls help
Transmission is contaminated. If it is just 2-3 flare, then it is just one solenoid or valve sticking. A VB service could get you back, but if the contamination is much, it will fail again, but differently.

Thanks everyone.
Congrats! With such army of codes, the ECU had got a mind of it's own.

If it is as easy as that this job for dey over sweet o grin
Yes, it is that easy. It is an easy and logical diagnosis. I use it, and it is solid.

You can ground or short signal voltage to power. Paper clips work well. Straighten and use it to short reference and signal female wire connectors from ECU.

Depending on which you use, the ECU will either set high or low voltage code. The idea is to send a known error to the ECU and see how it reacts. If the ECU is not able to tell that it's signal is out of range, then something is wrong with it. You can also detect any open or shorts this way.

It's street smart!

PS: in my initial post, I meant the TPS cables from the ECU

CrimeRe: Making Calls At Filling Stations Is Now A Crime — Police by Kashif(m): 1:12pm On Dec 31, 2017
emma321:
The police have said that making phone calls at filling stations is a criminal offence which could land the offender in jail.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, stated that an offender could be prosecuted and jailed for attempted arson.

He noted that police officers have the authority to arrest anyone found making phone calls or smoking at filling stations.

He described the filling station as a public facility where motorists cannot act as they like on account of the inflammable products like petrol and other petroleum products being dispensed there.

Moshood, therefore, cautioned the public against violating the safety rules forbidding smoking and phone calls at filling stations.

He said, “Making phone calls or smoking at filling stations is a criminal offence and the police, of course, could arrest anyone violating the safety rules put in place to safeguard life and property at the filling stations.”

The scan tool was able to pull out errors but when he connected two other devices that looked like computers to program the ECU, he got a communication failure message.
The codes are:
P2122
P2128
P2127
P2138
P1229
P0223
P0123
P2135
P1800
P1111
P0340
P0550
P0118
P0451
With this array of codes, it could be the ECU really.

But before he proceeds to replace ECU, he should ground a couple of TPS pins and see if some if the codes change. If they don't, then my money is on the ECU.

Shalom

@NanaF,

You took a car to a tech with OS code, and performance issue. You both test drive, and confirm performance issue. Tech tells you OS is fine, but fuel pressure lower than spec.

Tech proceeds to change fuel pump without charging for/replacing OS. You confirm performance was better afterwards, but complained about vehicle pulling to one side (unrelated to initial repair).

You have never filled fuel tank to brim (probably since owning this vehicle), and does so after seven months, tank leaks, and it is attributed to replaced pump. Sender stops working, and is attributed to replaced pump. Vehicle won't start, and it is linked to replaced pump.

After repair, tech kept 'disturbing' you for performance update, and you kept saying your mum drives the car, so you don't know. If there was a problem, wouldn't your mum have complained?

Yes tech may not have fixed your OS code issue, which he did not charge you for, but as far as I can see, he fixed your performance issue.

Somebody has asked what repairs have been carried out on this vehicle in the last seven months.

I don't like the smart keys. Hence I would not advice a Merc without traditional keys. Not worth the TROUBLE!
Apart from the repair trouble, there could be security risk. I watched a video how car thieves stole a late model Mercedes parked at owner's drive in within seconds.

They came with a device which picked the transponder's signal from the house (they took the device to the window to do that), and relayed it to the car, fooling it to think the key was with them. The lights flashed and they entered and drove off. The ish about these smart keys is that they are always transmitting.

This happened in less than 20 seconds! Hope those guys don't come down here.
Car TalkRe: Is It Compulsory To Do Wheel Balancing And Alignment After Tyre Change by Kashif(m): 7:17am On Dec 28, 2017
Wheel balancing is recommended any time a tyre's position, relative to the wheel is changed. This includes tyre replacement and repair.

Alignment on the other hand is recommended after suspension job, ditch run or if uneven tyre wear is noticed.

Guys, i later discovered a very big cut on the throttle inlet holse, meaning that there has being a massive loss of air, i ve tried gumming it but there is still leak though not as much as before so i drove the car and surprisingly the the picked ooo and driving well, i am now looking to buy new assembly of air filter casing with the trothle holse, wanna replace everything because i dont know where the other leakage is coming from. I hear wistling sound now, meaning their is a leak somewhere.

I have also observed that my gear takes almost forever to change, so im consideeing buying a new auto transmission for my car. Anyone knows how much i should be looking at?
Don't change your transmission without first fixing all engine performance issues.

Second, you need to confirm if the delayed shifts is a command issue. I mean, is the gear doing what the computer is commanding, or has it got a mind of its own. If you change your gear without verifying this, you may have wasted your money and time.

Dear Auto Gurus,

Is there any specific scan/diagnosis that one can run to confirm Solenoid aka Fibre for transmission issue?

I was just advised by another claimed gear professional that I have to replace my transmission fibre without any code to back it up after scan.

cc: Kashif, Gazzuzz
Fibre(clutch) and solenoid are NOT the same.

Testing for a solenoid's electrical integrity is straightforward, but it's performance is not. While a digital metre will do the former, the latter will require pressure gauges, charts, compressed air, live PIDs to determine. It gets complex if you don't have a known working solenoid to throw in. Unfortunately, slipping clutches throw solenoid codes so, techs go changing solenoids without desired result.

Clutches don't just burn. Something burns them. You will not know a clutch is burnt without seeing it. It is as simple as that. I say it all the time - burnt clutch is a symptom, so in order to fix the problem correctly, you need to determine and address the root cause.

The most you can determine externally is a slipping clutch. Some are so small you won't know unless you punch a calculator, and some are very obvious. Those small ones are seen by the computer, and you will be wondering why you are having solenoid codes when your car is driving 'perfectly'. If your mechanic says you need to change your 'fibre', ask him why.

Thanks Kashif. On the bolded I think it doesn't because I usually pull out on reverse before engaging drive. I guess I will make time out to go for scan. Should I tell them specific area to scan or the general scanning will detect every issue?
That further confirms problem is not TC charge. I doubt if scanning will help. You need to check for internal hydraulic pressure to specific ports.

Another problem with Engine parts is this. There are more Diesel Range rovers than Petrol.Diesel Engine parts is cheaper cos thats all waht is seen in Europe.Petrol Engines in Europe are nearly non existent.
So the only viable option is to buy new parts. That will even boost your warranty confidence. Do that and tell the customer the warranty is voided if service appointments are missed!

2013.

Recently, my '97 Maxima hesitates about 10 to 15 seconds before responding when I engage the D. Reverse engages smoothly with no problem but once I select to D, it takes some time before moving forward by itself. If I happen to throttle at this time it will just rev without moving or jerks forward after those few seconds. I do regular service and oil change every 3months.

I also observed that this usually happens during the first starting for the day or after the car has been parked for more than 3hrs. Other than that car still drives smoothly.
I would have suspected a converter drain back but reverse works fine. My money is on a worn check ball. You need proper hydraulic diagnosis.

Does it help if you engage reverse for some seconds first before engaging drive?
Car TalkRe: Ford Cars Quite Explicit by Kashif(m): 8:11pm On Dec 02, 2017
Femtopford:
Yes, PWM solenoids of CVT are liable than DC solenoids because they are transistor control solenoids and commonly NPN type, so they're greatly susceptible.

Dextron are highly oxidized than mercon and do affect the DC solenoids particularly in Ford, satisfied that transmission internal and external temperature are efficient.

For instance, Ford vehicles from 08 up, immediately you put these oil and drive as temp increases, it places a transmission code in pcm(pressure control solenoid B) and late in second speed selection comes up. Further diagnostic flow chart according to the vehicle's manufacturer clearly propounded that the solenoid is malfunctioning due to wrong fluid usage.

As you completely drain it and put the right fluid, everything go back to normal without any effect on the holding components and seals as you've claimed.

I comprehend your contention, high and low oxidized fluids are laboratory tested and passed, but do not forget that different fluid's manufacturers are different bodies to various vehicle's manufacturers. Some are compatible to one another and some are not, they all have their legislation under the umbrella of SAE and API

Yes, Ford transmission are not problematic, once you use the right and recommended fluid. Backing it up, the drivability should be enjoyable during span period.
GR guys like you don't understand the practical workings of an auto transmission. If you are not a transmission tech, decades of GR experience will make little difference, because it's a specialty.

There is no point for me to take this debate further - you win!

I have been in contact on WhatsApp with AutoElectNG, such a fantastic guy with a huge wealth of experience in automotive diagnosis.
I followed all the vital information he outlined in his last post to the last letter.
My personal advice in case a car DIY enthusiast is reading this is to get these two things before proceeding with any troubleshooting.
1. Technical bulletins on your car factory service manual. This will give you a comprehensive lists of all the parameters and values your car should meet.
2. A reliable scan tool that can read all the information derived from point 1 above.

AutoEletNG streamlined the troubleshooting to oxygen sensors behaviors (upstream and downstream), and his reason was because of OBD monitor test for CAT not completed. The oxygen sensors were behaving erratically, and he advice I do an engine/ECU software update.

The ECU software update fixed all my fuel trims within spec and car drives smoother, and whilst comparing all technical data from FSM with live data on the scantool, I realized Evap VSV was OFF instead of ON, and that may probably be the cause of what has been damaging my CAT by causing my A/F and oxygen sensors to behave erratic, unfortunately no DTC was set for this Evap VSV (http://alflash.com.ua/evap.htm).

I shall give more update here on the final fix whilst I work closely with AutoElectNG.
Did you do the ECU update yourself? Which pass through device was used?

We do in most cases but getting the crankshaft is a serious issue. One of my clients went to the UK and we mandated him to look for crankshafts in a demolition site but could not get one. The low octane fuel and the wrong engine oils are the major issues affecting a range rover engine and we counsel everyone to boost the fuel and use the recommended engine oil for your peace of mind. A new crankshaft cost 1600usd while the used engine cost 3400usd. So rebuilding the engine is possible only if the crankshaft is in order.
I thought the crankshaft has a low failure rate? I am thinking rings, camshafts, valves, piston, rods etc.
