The school you choose is probably more important than the course.
If Computer Science is a shorter course, take it. Nobody does actual
Computer Engineering in Nigeria. It's just installation and troubleshooting.
Same applies to Computer Science. It's just installation and configuration. cheesy
Very incorrect Seun. You can only speak of what you know. I went to the best computer engineering school in Nigeria and I know we did not do only installation and troubleshooting! There was a lot of logic array programing. Though not comparable to what you get in the western world, you will know all the basics. You will have to know electronics well because you face a lot of practicals. Cheers.
Career › Re: Computer Science Or Engineering! Help by Kashif(m): 10:08am On Dec 03, 2007
a4extra,

Computer engineering has to do with a lot of hardware! If you dont want to have anything to do with hardware, then you better stay clear. But understand that life has to do with lots of inconveniences so, try and psyche yourself up for electronics because you will do programming too; computer is a combination of hard and softwares.

A computer engineer has an advantage over a computer scientist because of the hardware edge. What a scientist can do; an engineer can but what an engineer can do; a scientist cant.

One more thing - dont do it for your father! do the thing you love and realise you dont need to work. Let him understand your passion.

Goodluck.

Also a good financier always makes things "sweeter"! My financial and emotional needs must be met and the sexual takes a back seat!--it is called maturity!!!!!

The fear of STDs--and other "religious matters" will definitely keep you in check. So you have to improvise to "keep things going"!!!!

It is just like comparing Windows Vista to Microsoft Powerpoint! They are not in the same category for comparism guys.

The latest opinions shared so far are indeed welcome. It is more soothing to hear more objective analysis from Modu. I guess there was communication gap earlier. My apologies to anybody that might have felt offended. Truely, there is a regional bias towards the more acceptable/recognised methodology.

In my opinion, a seasoned PM does not need to be a SME. He should seek expert knowledge using the various techniques available. Being a SME PM is very cool but it is more advantageous if you are able to manage projects outside your domain. Can you imagine the beauty of taking up a massive telecommunication project after you have SUCCESSFULLY completed a nationwide process feasibility/acceptability project worth millions of naira? PM's are not trained to man a mono industry projects but, to adapt their PM skills to any form of project. PM is not a one-size-fits-all thing. A nurse who receives proper training in PM should be able to handle construction projects. It involves wide consultation so, I beg to disagree that a certified PM should be known only in his field. Many projects fail because of many things.

I quiet agree with the idea that more recognition follows certification in both PMI and Prince2.

On 6 sigma, it is very good and my little understanding tells me it will go well with SAP and PM. It involves a lot of statistics and precision. Just like Modu said, it is yellow belt, green belt, black belt, master blackbelt, champion, etc. Rigorous.

I have enjoyed you guys' contributions so far. Please keep it flowing. Cheers all cool cool

"PMI CEO Gregory Balestrero Gave Keynote Speech at European Commission Conference

On 2 October, the European Commission Directorate General of Informatics (DIGIT) held its annual conference in Brussels on the e-commission project, entitled Making e-Commission Projects Succeed. PMI CEO Gregory Balestrero delivered the keynote speech, Enhancing the Efficiency of EU Programmes: The Contribution of Project Management.

Mr Balestrero explained how project management methodologies can help IT projects to succeed in delivering successful e-government services for public administrations.

PMI CEO Gregory BalestreroPMI’s invitation to the conference was an honour, since the speaker slots are usually reserved for internal speakers from the member states and the institutions of the European Union. Since his presentation slot followed the Vice-President of the European Commission, Mr Balestrero was able to set the scene for the event.

Chaired by the Director General of DIGIT, Francisco Garcia Moran, the conference was launched by the vice-president of the European Commission, Siim Kallas. The conference hosted, as speakers, representatives of international organizations, including PMI and managers of national e-government projects from the member states of the European Union.

The conference gathered more than 200 senior managers from the European Commission and other EU institutions."

I wonder why people choose to spread false information in the name of marketing cry cry cry You told us that PMI is not known outside USA? na wa O. Do you know that most of PMI Awards 2007 went to European projects? Please, please, stop. I would not want to be involved in contest for institutional superiority because I am almost sure you know the truth.

If you dont desist, then know that you are advertising your ignorance. No hard feelings please.

@apokonwa, I sent you a mail.

Everyone,

All of you can definitely benefit from project management trainings, it is a universal standard of delivering project - project by definition, is any piece of work - driven by strategic requirements, operational or just a business improvement requirement, with a sole aim of improving, creating or enhancing a system, people or function.

I will recommend PRINCE 2, it is more widely recognised in the UK and Europe. PMI is a US standard, not well known outside the US. Infact, only US multi-national companies outside the US use it.

Shell, Accenture and a few other multinationals have just moved to PRINCE 2 standards for a project delivery.

Drop me an email, if you want to have a conversation with me, on this training in Lagos in Nov - email: enquiries@utmostconsulting.com

pizzadox:
as i said, make their IP address static,

know the default ip address of your DHCP Server

ok
I don't want to use a static IP. I have done problem isolation and it is not coming from addressing. It is not coming from the DHCP/DNS server either. I have checked all leasing and scopes. It has to do with the system because no other machine can ping it. No doubt, it is on the network because it can ping others.

I have done some adjustments in the antivirus and even had to turn it off, but to no avail. Maybe I will have to turn off the windows firewall and see what happens. I am beginning to suspect it.

I'll let you guys know what I find out. Cheers.
Computers › Re: Pinging On Lan: Pls Help by Kashif(op): 12:51pm On Sep 19, 2007
@all,

Very sorry for responding late. Let me supply more details -

1) These two systems are two of many systems on this LAN

2) There is a DHCP server (which means they are on the same subnet mask)

3) The IP addresses the echo requests are being sent to are very correct

4) It is not a physical connection failure because both systems can ping the gateway. It is a puzzle because one can ping the other and the other can't.

5) Both systems are win XP sp2

6) Error message: Request timed out

Thanks all.

sorry guys for deviating from the topic, the tree exist and one other misterious object flying at night. they call it mmumu owa in igbo
anybody had of it before?
When it comes out it will illuminate and if it hits somebody the person is gone.
Presido, I will disagree with you on this. mmumu o(n)wa is the famous glow worm. That is no mystery. As a child, I have always been fascinated by this insect that I used to hunt them. I used to catch them and tried studying them. They have cells that convert biological energy to flashing light energy. The illumination should not be up to one candella (light intensity measurement unit). The same conversion happens with the electric fish which can produce up to 400v of electricity.

If what you meant was not an insect, then let us know. SHALOM.

my fear is that you are going to wait forever for the science of GOD. the Bermuda Triangle is just "an IMAGINARY area that can be roughly outlined on a map by connecting Miami, Florida; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and the Bahamas, an island chain off the coast of the United States." yes ships and planes disappeared there, so what? what do you expect? even if you haven't seen the ocean before, can't you imagine how rough it can be when the storm comes? what kind of ship or plane can you build to withstand the storms of this imaginary area of the ocean?
Imaginary? Then your picture was a simulation? What has planes (flying kilometers above) got to do with ocean waves? Why can't submarines do the exploration? Deep water exploration technology is too advanced now that it cannot handle the supposed physical research of Bermuda triangle.

What can you say?

Presido don't mind them.Let them go and research into the indepth discovery of the chemical elements. They forget that the spiritual controls the physical. Human beings are spiritual and therefore transcend beyond the physical. I believe in self-discovery and I know there are so much more than meet the eyes.If you believe you are a spirit, what are all these ignorant miopic noise/contributions all about?

Let science come and explain the phenomena in dreams. These noise-makers don't even read the bible (the best historical book ever penned) Soooooooooooooooo annoying angry angry Go there and tell me if all written there were physical/scientific. What have you invented living in this "modern age" with your "science"? Put your ears to the ground! Shalom once more.

We are still waiting for science on Bemuda triangle. We are still waiting for science on the origin of existence.Only fools lean solely on thier understanding!! Go deep into science and see it is rooted in the supernatural (esoteric). You can't know beyond your exposure. The more I read about unidirectional thinking, the more I sink into despair. The shrines in my village were vandalised and sold to whites.

Here we read/know the microns and we begin to make noise about empirical reasoning. Shalom
