@ All,
Interesting topic.
@ bricks,
If you are looking for a certification that'll make you flexible and relevant in all fields, go for any of the Project management certifications. I recommend any of PMI's(Project Management Institute) certifications. Project management skills has been adjudged to be the number one business skill in the world and it is a core even over technical domains. check out www.pmi.org, for first hand info.

First, I want to appreciate Ulohomuno's contributions especially, the clarification on where prospective PMP's can recieve training. Just make sure you are trained by a PMP!

@bodija, I suggest you go for Capm since you don't know much about projects. But, if you want to become a PMP because you "are in need of a good work" then you are in the wrong place. If you don't have the drive and love for PM, the time-consuming nature of the preparation drills will definitely frustrate you. It is not a bandwagon thing.

Cheers.

Mamba, I have not seen but I have heard a lot about this tree. Not believing in something does not affect its existence. In this vein, I advise you ask elders around you about this tree instead of advertising your ignorance. Peace!

Compare? PMI is PMI and IPMA, IPMA. You must have comparism metrics to achieve your objective. Have you developed one? PMI-ism!!!!! wink

hayo:
I am sure Soludo has good motives but did not follow good project management methodologies.
If a project manager was involved in this re denomination process - he would have done a proper stakeholder analysis and identified that the sponsor should have been the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If the president signed the charter to start the project, he would not come out later to stop it. Soludo is smart, but we have to start using best practices in order to avoid occurrences like this.
Soludo is an economist, and not a project manager.

If you are coming from project management, the the project is still under initialisation and there are many precesses in project initialisation. I find it very difficult to believe that Soludo kept mr president, who is a major stakeholder/sponsor in the dark, no matter what the CBN act 2007 says. I am almost sure he and his team had done good brainstorming before deciding to buy the idea because I learnt the idea was not originally his.

Please be aware that this process will not in anyway, improve the purchasing power of the naira. It is a  mere mathematical manipulation that will drastically reduce the quantity of the legal tender in circulation thus, relieve many bulk-tellers of their duties and cut the millionaire club membership to size.

Surely, it requires very huge financial and logistics muscle which many will be scared to embrace. If the CBN has this redenomination agenda plan in mind before changing the lower bills then, that was a poor life-cylce cost analysis. More are still to come so, lets see whose script mr president is acting out. wink

kashif thanks for the prince2 manual. i really appreciate. may God continue to reward your efforts.
You are welcome.

i don't even know where to start reading from
I don't want to believe you are saying that. If you really want to belong to the project management club, then you must be prepared to read. PRINCE2 is much lighter than PMP. PM is jealous and wont share your attention with another grin grin. It is well.

Enough of all these copy and paste; you are wasting precious space on this thread. I mean we have read this lenghty post before. Maybe it is high time you gave us another flavour. Cheers.

I dont understand what NYSC posting is doing on this thread.

@nolaodus,

I wonder what forum moderation has got to do with my post(s). I have not also found any reason to personalise issues. I am fully aware of the professional responsibility of PMI membership and know how much it costs to get a copy (I paid for mine). I don't care what CNN airs; it is their business.

I still maintain that you should try and stop portraying Proconsult as the only training providers in Nigeria. No hard feelings.
Car Talk › Re: How To Save Money On Fuel (car Owners) by Kashif(m): 12:51pm On Aug 03, 2007
I disagree that over-inflated tyres could reduce mileage. It is infact, the opposite. Under-inflation causes the tyres to have broader contact with the road which leads to increased friction uncecessary traction. Note that your engine will have to labour more to get things going. Abi no bi so?

nolaodus:
Hello All,
It is not enough that the teacher has PMP. The company must be accredited by PMI. You can visit our website at www.proconsult-llc.com

PMI representatives are now looking at this forum and may tighten their requirements for Nigerians if care is not taken. We must be careful not give misleading information or make fraudulent claims because PMi will then start to scrutinize Nigerian applicants more to prevent fraud.
Who gave you that impression? You can find other ways of advertising your coy apart from passing false information.
Autos › Re: Homicidal Convoy Driving As A Funeral Rite by Kashif(m): 2:40pm On Jul 31, 2007
I have seen with my own eyes in Aba, Abia state. What I saw was naked madnes and amplified recklesness. I saw buses - alive, in coma, dead, flying too low in streets with full headlamp beams. You dare not stay close.

One of the drivers jumped out of his bus stark naked!! You can't imagine that? I though I would hear that one/some of them died out of the 'demonstration' following day, but heard nothing!

A similar thing was when I saw okada driversriders stage solidarity. No be small thing.
I think arrogance, snobishness, haughtyness, modesty and what have you, is more of an individual thing mostly exhibited by people who probably consider themselves to be merely lucky to be where they are in life, not be virtue of merit or hard work, (try takn a mental analysis around you,you will observe this).I also believe that if you can afford to spend more time building and developing yourself, you wouldnt have the time to be looking for who snobs you or not simply because you can even hardly have enough time for your busy schedule, that way those you've acheived more than will start looking at you as being snobish bla, bla, so gals lets learn to discuss more of "ISSUES" than humans, because discussing the later doesnt change them but discussing the former changes YOU!!!!
undecided

Yes. That is the situation. They have funny ways of calculating your takehome. You hear 1.8M, 2.2M, all millions but at the end of the month, you will almost be disapointed. A friend told me how his eyes turned red when he collected his first pay. grin grin

Career › Re: Help Make A Decision by Kashif(m): 6:28pm On Jul 23, 2007
@donclemo, I advise you start a new thread.

@akin, it might not be very wise to work with a close pal as there may be some inhibitions; though this may depend on the trust, competence, and closeness. From all indications, burnout is begining to set in so you have to act fast. If everything fails to interest you in your present job, you may start looking elsewhere.

Cheers.

Some say under valued, others say over valued huh huh But the summary it that they are begining to bow out of the 'deal'. They may claim they overpaid to try and save their FaCeS. They said they are coming back after 12 months if NNPC doesn't redeem their pledge of making the refineries functional soon.

I wonder the impact of this on the proposed Dangote Floor PO.
