Thanks.

I mean Elleria has kids for the crippled king of Dorne, Oberyn' brother.

That makes Sand a family name.
Mmmm.... smh.

Bros, please pay attention: The kids are Oberyn's, not his brother's. The kids are also bastard-born (all different mothers), that's why they all have Sand as surname; it is not a "family name". Their relationship with Ellaria is that she was their father's (Oberyn) partner (referred to as "paramour", cos they were not married). And yes, Ellaria too was bastard-born, hence her name, Ellaria Sand.

You really should pay more attention to details, though. Imagine trying to have a discussion with football fans when you don't even remember last weekend's scores; that's what your posts sound like. You can always check Google if you're unsure of some stuffs, before coming to post.

Y is Griff called d false Dragon
My opinion? Young Griff's arc is so crucial in ASOIAF, yet he's been omitted entirely from the show, why? Why would D & D omit a "true" surviving Targaryen? The simplest answer: cos he's a fake.

what are you guys talking now, Ellaria Sand has kids for Doran. when she called him spineless that was the only reason he forgave her.

I think the reason why she bent on avenging Obyrin is not that she really loved him, because she had a beef with Cersei. Remember Cersei referred to her family name(Sand) as non entity.
huh angry
Please stop it. Flaunting ignorance isn't cool. Ellaria has kids for Doran?? On which show abeg?

"Sand" is not a family name, its a surname for any bastard born in Dorne (just like "Snow" for the North (Winterfell), "Stone" for the Vale, "Hill" for the Westerlands (Casterly Rock), "Pyke" for the Iron Islands, etc.).

Valar Likehris! wink

First off, I need to state that I'm becoming biased against the books as the show steadily moves into uncharted areas. 6 years is enough time already.

Yeah, "show" Dany and "books" Dany seem to be towing same path... for now. And yeah, Drogon will certainly have a hand in it, but he won't be alone. Remember Rhaegal and what'shisname are currently loose in Mereen, thanks to the Sun's Son.

I don't think Sansa is marrying Jon Arryn's get in the books. Littlefinger will kill the boy and secure the Vale for himself, then he'll try to marry Sansa himself. Show and books may differ in the details, but they'll both eventually arrive at same ending. Balon Greyjoy of the show is just a dead man walking grin Same goes for Stannis of the books.

I've deliberately avoided reading any of TWoW preview chapters - Asha Greyjoy's, Arianne's, or this 'Mercy' one - Grrrrrrrrrrr! Martin should just publish the book already.

Tyrion of the show isnt doing too badly if tou ask me. In fact me thinks he's doing way better than Tyrion of the books - who by the way will still end up in Dany's court.

If Young Griff was going to be on the show, he'd have been cast by now.

I never liked Areo Hotah of the show though... dude never seemed to me like he even knew how to handle that axe.

My predictions for the show: Dany's babies will raze Vaes Dothrak to the ground; Daario will turn his cloak; Jaime Lannister will not survive Season 6; Mellisandre will resurrect Jon Snow (but we all know that); Tyrion Lannister will be the third head of the dragon; and No One Named Arya will be on her way back to the Seven Kingdoms by the season's finale.

I think I have to read all the books again.

Meanwhile GRRM says writing WoW has not been going like he expected, so we will see the book when we see it. That's said, but we will survive.

As for this episode hmmm.... cheesy
It is obvious now, GRRM has become a lazy slob who is slowly but steadily drowning in his own success. His last major published work, A Dance with Dragons, was in 2011 - and even that took him almost 6 years! Since then, na so so anthology, comic abi illustrated book, or some slightly regurgitated story from the Targaryen dynasty. Personally I've given up on him. Thank God for D & D, at least i can have closure whenevr the TV series ends.

Don't we all? Unfortunately there's only so much that can be squeezed into 50 minutes.

A couple thoughts on S6-E1 though...

- Numero Uno: Jon Snow is dead. Yes. For now.

- Where is Brandon Stark?? angry grin I've waited TWO WHOLE YEARS see him do some serious warging!

- Is it just me, or does a close-crop look cool on Cersei? And talking of Cersei, isn't it true genius that this shows producers have, between the end of S5 and the start of S6, managed to make us actually start feeling pity for this devilish woman that KILLED her husband?? Mmm, food for thought.

- And then Jaime Lannister starts regrowing his lion claws... on just one paw though. grin

- Well look-ee here, the big-boned Septa is still around!

- That Dornish coup, I did not see that coming! I don't agree that Doran was weak, but Trystane... tsk-tsk. No true dornishman would turn his back on an enemy. However... the dornish are supposed to be fiercely loyal to family - isn't that why Oberyn came to avenge their sister? Seems out-of-character then for Ellaria to murder Doran AND his son - even they were "weak".

- While Doran was bleeding away his life blood, I kept wondering, Where the heck is Littlefinger? After all he's done, I can't imagine any murdering and racketeering happening without him somehow involved.

- Still on the matter of weakness, isn't King Tommen (First of His Name, King of the Andals, the First Men and the Rhoynar, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm) the epitome of spinelessness? His own queen is STILL in prison! grin grin

- Did it seem like Brienne was about to cry after Sansa accepted her service? And then there was Theon a.k.a Reek-that-rhymes-with-Meek looking on and nodding his approval! Lol... grin I guess Sansa's headed north now, yes?

- I've always thought Tyrion as the best candidate for the Iron Throne, but I've now also realized who'll be the best candidate for Hand of the King: Ser Davos. That dude's got smarts! See how he channeled Edd's anger and handled Thorne. Mmmm.

- Somehow, Melisandre's reveal didn't surprise me. Perhaps i read too much into the episode's title.. "The Red Woman". Was still in interesting to know though.

Ahh.. can't wait for next week!

should we have a new thread for season 6?
Naa... We have history stretching back YEARS on this thread. I've grown kinda attached to it abeg. I understand how quite a number of folks may not have seen S6-E1 yet, but methinks 48hrs afterwards is enough grace period before allowing discussions. You could maybe do the thread-lock thing (like you used to last year) then unlock again for discussion say 24-36hrs after the airing of an episode. It certainly worked then.

But I can imagine why you may consider giving a S6 a new thread... This Seun sef, you like business sha!! grin grin

So you knew there would be a coup in Dorne? That Dany would be told to go to Vaes Dothrak to stay, abi? *In Shao Kahn's voice* Don't make me laugh.
I tire for the guy sef. With all the expectations being heaped upon this Season 6, I personally believe this opening episode delivered an 8.5/10. Is Jon Snow dead? Is Stannis dead? Did Sansa and Theon survive? What happens to Dany? How are Tyrion and Varys fairing? All these questions answered in the very FIRST episode, PLUS lots of subtle hints at what the future holds for almost all the Game Players. The angle not covered in this episode is Bran and the Three-Eyed Crow, and I suspect the next episode with focus on that... HOMECOMING!

If i hear anyone mention Rickon... grin

PoliticsRe: Biography Of Thomas Sankara by kay9(m):

Lalasticlala

This topic (and it's contents) deserve to be on FP; please do the needful. The simplest reason Africa countries have remained mired in stagnation is because we've refused to learn from our past; our history books need to be re-written.

Sparonani:
...His salary was $450 per
month and he refused to use the air conditioning units in his office, saying that
he felt guilty doing so, since very few of his
country people could afford it. Thomas Sankara would not let his portrait
be hung in offices and government
institutions in Burkina Faso, because every
Burkinabe is a Thomas Sankara, he
declared. Sankara changed the name of
the country from the colonially imposed Upper Volta to Burkina Faso, which means
land of upright men.

...Sankara preached self-reliance, he banned the importation of
several items into Burkina Faso, and encouraged the growth of the local
industry. It was not long before Burkinabes
were wearing 100% cotton sourced, woven
and tailored in Burkina Faso. From being a
net importer of food, Thomas Sankara
began to aggressively promote agriculture in Burkina Faso, telling his country people
to quit eating imported rice and grain from
Europe, said, “let us consume what we
ourselves control,” he emphasized.

.... In 1987, during a meeting of African
leaders under the auspices of the
Organization of African Unity, Thomas
Sankara tried to convince his peers to turn
their backs on the debt owed western
nations. According to him, “debt is a cleverly managed reconquest of Africa. It is
a reconquest that turns each one of us into
a financial slave.” He would not request for,
nor accept aid from the west, noting that
“…welfare and aid policies have only ended
up disorganizing us, subjugating us, and robbing us of a sense of responsibility for
our own economic, political, and cultural
affairs. We chose to risk new paths to
achieve greater well-being.”

...He spoke truth to power fearlessly
and paid with his life. Upon his assassination, his most valuable
possessions were a car, a refrigerator,
three guitars, motorcycles, a broken down
freezer and about $400 in cash.

... For Africans, the strength desperately
needed for the transformation of the
continent cannot be drawn from World
Bank and IMF policies, from aid and
assistance obtained from China, India, the
United States or Europe. The strength to transform Africa lies in the foundations laid
by uncommon heroes like Thomas
Sankara; a man who showed Africa and
the world that with a single minded pursuit
of purpose, the worst can be made the
best, and in record time too.

Yeah it's happened to me too, but that was some donkey years ago. And it was no way near as serious as yours... though probably funnier.

Anyway I was maybe 13/14 ish, we were @ villa for Christmas, had a teeth complication plus fever, was given drugs... and I slept off. The sun was just above the horizon when I woke up, and I felt a lil better, so thinking I'd slept through the evening and night, I went around greeting folks "good morning sir, good morning ma, good morning auntie, uncle..." And they all answered appropriately! I only got clued in when I saw my kid bros them running around outside, looking dirty as hell. No way they'd played so hard and gotten so dirty before breakfast - this must still be yesterday! My folks all had a good laugh sha.
