famolino: What about the tuition, I'm having second tot abt it (mayb changing to a less paying school). Seen peeps here with less tuition
If you get admitted into a cheaper school with same or better potential then cross carpet. $14,500 for 2 semester is not small money but that is Canada education for you.

Government schools are cheaper than private schools but they are more difficult to gain admission

Hello fellow Nigerians (As our .... will say). Just a piece of information on using your naira Mastercard or visa card in Canada.

When you use it to buy things in the shops (POS) or pay for anything online; You will not be charged any extras but the rates may be different based on the current exchange rate as at the time you made the purchase.

Note also that, if you collect money from any atm machine which does not belong to your bank, you will be charged $2 dollars. This is not only for Nigerian bank cards, it is also applicable to Canadian bank cards. (RBC bank will charge you $2 dollars for using TD bank card in their ATM machine. same as others)
Therefore if you must use your Naira bank card to withdraw money; try and take the maximum cash allowed (most Naija cards have a limit of $400 dollars per withdraw) then pay what ever amount is excess into your Canada bank account

Another thing to note is that using exchange internet sites such as Oanda and fx exchange won't give you the exact exchange rate that your naija bank would use because local bank rates are slightly higher than CBN rate but they are not that far apart. The rate fluctuates between 153 to 155.5 to $1 dollar

Once again, my follower Nigerians; I welcome you all to Canada grin

gentpeace: pls who knows if i can apply for canadian study visa from another country,or will they request that i must come back to apply from Nigeria ?, @ amefrica pls help
You can apply from any country, where you reside. No need to return to nauja before applying except you are just visiting that country and/or may need to leave your present country of residence before the processing time runs out

Mohammedbashir: Hello Bro.. Pls if one takes a flight that is going through the US, do you need a transit visa even if you're not stepping out of the airport? Or it is just the basic requirement when passing through? Thanks
YES, you need a transit visa to pass through the US even if you will be seating in the airplane all through your layover.

Just keep off the US route if you don't have a US visa except you want to return to naija before you reach Canada

craigj:
I thank you all for the info which i got but a Lufthansa agent told my friend since his flight route is Lagos (LOS), Terminal I - Frankfurt-Paris - Charles De Gaulle (T1) (CDG) - Toronto - Pearson Int'l (Lester) (YYZ), he might need an entry visa for France. So what now, since its not Frankfurt direct too Canada
I know agents can get you deals at times but from my experience when you want last minute deals; going directly to the airline's office may surprise you with even better deals as they may just need one last seat to be filled and you also get clarification on the type of visas you need for the entire trip.

Another thing to note is that when the date of travel is this near; it is advisable to take one way flight cos return trips will double.
And by the way; getting return trips from Canada to Naija and back is cheaper once you are in Canada. So why stress yourself

tsam01: @chiahmakar, slimdel, amefrica, kclexa, justwise and all others... pls help with the questions below
My advice is that you use a sponsor who is either still working with very good salary package or in business with very good cash flow

Putting 2m into your account and printing the statement won't fool the visa officer; remember you need more than a month's account statement.

The trouble with using a retired individual as a sponsor is that you need to convince the VO that he/she has a steady source of income; enough to sustain his personal needs before considering your added responsibilities

Sir!!, sorry i was just about to hit the bed. This is 12:40am over here.

I see @Tolaengr has already given you the answer to the biometric question.

Good luck Sir, I wish you success

Abi is anything not still clear?
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by kclexa(m): 6:15am On Aug 26, 2014
Please for clarity; AVOID buying any flight ticket that takes you through the United States except you have a valid US visa (transit or otherwise)

ENSURE that your flight is through any European country as this will ease your travel stress.

France, Amsterdam and Germany are all European countries that don't require you to have a transit visa

Safe trips and welcome to Canada

luvly3: .... And u think $2000 isn't much for what u can do yourself for less than $400...hmmm dat $2000 dols is like 4 months rent here....
Thank you Luvly3; I been wan beg this person for $700 to pay my next month rent and I will render marple service sharply.

If after the advice and testimonies rendered here on Nairaland, you still think $2000 is worth donating to an agent who has no vector power to guarantee your visa then there is absolutely no need spending time on Nairaland.

Quarrel no dey o!!!

koladata: Hi everybody, thanks for the good jobs you are doing. I plan to apply for a one year diploma program in a school in canada, whats my chances of getting visa in this case that i'm not applying for a degree program?. And what's my chances of getting a 2years visa? The one year diploma program i applied for does not have co-op. Please i need your timely response. Thanks and Good bless.
There is a possibility that you will get the visa but you wont get a 2 years visa for a 1 year diploma. the duration of your visa is primarily based on the duration of your program.

Something else to note is that the duration of your program may determine how long you will be allowed to remain in Canada after school and how possible it will be for you to get a Permanent Residency (Taking the province into consideration too)

edwinbiz: Hello friends i sent my waec result to usask
on the 14 of this month, should i pay the application
fee or i should wait until the university ask me to do
so. secondly, by Gods grace if am granted admission
can i meet up the January session?
I am not to sure how Usask operate but from experience, most universities will not give you any favorable response until you pay the application fee. Except it is stated that you should await their decision on your application before paying the fees.

As for meeting up with January session. it all depends on how fast you get the admission letter and start processing your visa
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by kclexa(m): 7:24am On Aug 23, 2014
GboyegaD: Oga, do you expect an average student to go live in Downtown? Practically, students should live around the University as such the average rate I emphasize remains around $500-$550.
I like your mindset. So what happens to those whose schools are in downtown area? Some accommodations closer to school are even more expensive.

In Edmonton, getting a furnished room close to most schools ranges from $550 to $750. while bachelor suites range from $650 to $875.

I won't dwell more on this subject because i have given enough steps to be considered in choosing an accommodation. My advice to anyone coming to Canada is to use renting websites such as kijiji.ca to analyze the accommodation cost and plan ahead. You may even be lucky to get an accommodation for far less ( below $400 ) but it all depends.

Good luck guys, I wish you all success in your quest for a better future. And I welcome all new Nigerians to Canada.
God Bless
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by kclexa(m): 6:55am On Aug 23, 2014
GboyegaD: Oga, I live in Calgary so I know what I'm talking about.
Oga, I live in Edmonton. So i also know what he is talking about. That is why I gave the steps to be considered.

Or do you want to tell me that the price of accommodation in southwest Calgary is the same as southeast Calgary or Downtown between 9th to 11 avenue.

Calgary accommodation and Fort McMurray accommodation is not the same nor is Red deer. not to even compare with Toronto and Vancouver. So just lay the facts and conditions that determine the prices then let the prospective Canadians (Naija hopefuls) do the right maths
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 6 by kclexa(m): 5:21am On Aug 23, 2014
GboyegaD: Seriouslyhuh I do not agree. You can get shared apts for as little as $400 and averagely it is about $500 - $550 monthly.
Relax, He specifically gave you an example of Calgary and Edmonton. If you doubt his opinion then check kijiji.ca for the prices of accommodation in the city you want to stay.

There are things that determine the price of your accommodation in Canada.

1) the city where your school is located
2) Do you want to live downtown close to all the city activities
3) is the accommodation fully furnished or unfurnished
4) Are all utility bills included or do you have to pay for certain bills

Don't expect the price of accommodation in new foundland to be the same as Vancouver. just as accommodation in Abuja and Ibadan can't be the same.
So do your maths well

vanrichie4u: Good day all, a friend needs an urgent advise, his financial sponsor doesn't have a valid international passport, what other form can he use to proof his identity?
I don't think the sponsor needs international passport to identify himself because he/she is not the one travelling. The bank statement, letter of sponsorship and any other financial document is enough

sys007: Good Evening
Please I need help here, as it's really tasky reading from the beginning of the thread to this end.
I am presently in my final year in an undergraduate course and will appreciate answers to my following questions.

1. How much do i need to have in my bank statement to present to the embassy ( After paying the full tuition fees)?

2. What are the complete and required documents i need to travel to Canada for my Master's? (Forgive me for asking this question as it's very boring reading this thread from the start)

Thanks a bunch
Hi, I understand your trouble in reading the whole thread in order to understand what you need for visa and study permit expecially when people get into quarrel instead of help.
Now take note of this facts

Your proof of finance is more about the source and cash flow, its not just about the amount in your bank account. It is important to show there will be steady flow of cash to support you while you are in Canada.

Calculate what your monthly expenses will be by visiting accommodation renting websites for any town in Canada that you wish to stay. Then multiple it for a year (12 months), split that amount by 3 for feeding, transport, phone bill and other bills. All depending on the town and your ability to manage your daily expenditures but it should give you an idea.

Welcome to everyone who has made so far into Canada. The land of diverse people and culture.

Canada will challenge the laziest foreign student to become hardworking but trust me; it pays off at the end, as long as you remain focus and remember this opportunity did not come cheap.

I wish all the Canadian hopeful success with their travel permits

stay blessed peeps. Naija forever

sexysammy0906: Hello everyone, i have been following this forum and have found it very useful. please i need help with some information. I recently got an admission to cetennial college for pgd program and i was about applying for visa when my agent brought to my attention tht i might have some issues with getting a visa since i have a master degree from uk. he explained that the embassy recently have been rejecting applications from most persons who have completed a master degree in another country and wants to study for a lesser degree in canada. please is there anyone who has a master degree and is going for a pgd program and has gotten visa. i am really confused and i really do not knw what to do. i would really appreciate any information. thanks
I am not sure your agent is %100 correct, If you had a grade less than 2.1; then Masters degree can't prevent you from doing a Canadian PGD. People with 2.1 and above also do PGD or PGC in other fields different from their primary field of study, just to get entry into that speciality.

Uwem Jimmy: Pls fellow NL, I've been instructed for meds and also to pay for a year tuition and accommodation. But the sch only offer to place me on the awaiting list regarding my accommodation.
Having paid my tuition and with this awaiting list thing, my question is: will the CDHC be satisfied that I've met their condition?
Pls help a brother!
I had a similar situation; like yours, I paid the one year tuition and was placed on the accommodation waiting list.

Just Submit the tuition official receipt, a printed copy of the email from the school indicating you are on the waiting list, then write a letter explaining the condition with obtaining accommodation with the school and how you are already making alternative arrangements to stay off campus if the need arises.

Good luck cos I did same and got my trv.
