The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) on Thursday closed its case in the trial of
Femi Fani-Kayode, charged with money laundering,
while serving as Minister of Aviation .
Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, is
standing trial on an amended 40-count charge
bordering on money laundering, before a Federal High
Court sitting in Lagos.
When the case was mentioned on Thursday, the
prosecution counsel, Mr Festus Keyamo, through a
letter delivered by Mr Vitalis Ahaotu, informed the
court of the closure of its case.
The defence counsel, Mr Wale Akoni (SAN), did not
object to the letter by the Prosecution. He, however,
informed the court of his intention to file a no-case
submission to the charges against his client.
Consequently, Justice Rita-Ofili Ajumogobia gave the
defence 21 days within which to file their application
before the court and ordered the prosecution to
respond within seven days, on receipt of the process.
She adjourned the case till Oct. 28 for adoption of
final written addresses.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the
EFCC had opened its case on March 10 and called five
witnesses to testify.Among the witnesses were the
Investigating Police Officers, bank legal officers, and a
former aide to Fani-Kayode.
NAN recalls that Fani-Kayode was first arraigned
sometime in December 2008 before Justice Ramat
Mohammed on a 47-count charge.
He had pleaded not guilty to the charge and Justice
Mohammed had granted him bail in the sum of N200
Million, with two sureties in like sum.
However, the former minister was re-arraigned before
Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako, following the transfer of
Mohammed from the Lagos Division.The accused was
again re-arraigned before Ajumogobia on Feb. 11,
2013, following the transfer of Murtala-Nyako.
On March 6, Fani-Kayode was again arraigned before
Ajumogobia, following the amendment of the 47-
count charge by the EFCC.The commission had
dropped seven of the counts.
Ajumogobia is the third judge to sit over the case in
the last five years.
In the charge, the former minister was alleged to have
transacted business with funds exceeding N500, 000
without going through a financial institution.
The accused was also alleged to have accepted cash
payments in the tune of about N100 million, while he
held sway as Minister of Aviation and Minister of
Culture and Tourism, respectively.
The offences contravene the provisions of Sections
15(1) (a) (b) (c) (d) and 15 (2) (a) (b) of the Money
Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2004.

Without further ado I bring to you Eagle Island-Ilaobuchi road. This project started last year January and is 80% complete as of yesterday with the Steel bridge also completed. The contractor handling the project LCC said in 60days the road will be handed over to Port Harcourt residence. The road is to ease traffic at Ikoku, UST and Agip bottleneck. So if you are plying from Mile 2 Diobu, you don't need to drive anymore to mile 3 if your destination is Akpor areas (adageorge, mgbouba, ozouba and Choba) or Airport. The road allows you to manoeuvre Mile3 directly to Adageorge.

So that's the latest for now until I see you again enjoy!!!

There was mild drama on Tuesday at the
National Judicial Institute, NJI, Abuja venue of
the on-going National Conference when a
delegate, Sidi Ali stated in his remarks that the
biggest private Hospital being built in Abuja is
owned by a former Governor of Rivers state.
Delegates continued their deliberations on the
report of the Committee on Devolution of
Power and what took the attention of most
delegates in their contribution was the issue of
increasing the derivational allocation from the
present 13%.
In his contribution earlier in the day, a
delegate representing the Civil Society, Nasiru
Kura stated that he was not against an
increase in the derivation principle, but that
whatever additional money the Oil producing
states get eventually goes into serving the
leaders of the area to the detriment of the
people in the communities ravaged by oil
exploration.
He said what most governors do is to
purchase private jets and gallivant around.
To buttress Mr. Kura’s position, Mr. Ali during
his presentation said “As I am talking now, the
biggest Hospital owned by a private person in
Abuja is being built by a former Governor of
Rivers state”.
He also recalled how jailed former Governor of
Delta state, James Ibori offered former
Chairman of the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu of a
bribe of Fifteen Million Dollars to stave off
investigation into his affairs.
As soon as Mr. Ali made his allegation, former
Governor of Rivers state, Peter Odili, who is
also a delegate at the Conference kept
shouting ‘Point of Order’.
When the Chairman of the Conference
eventually allowed Mr. Odili to speak, he
strongly denied owning a Hospital in Abuja.
“There are many former governors of Rivers
state here, but I happen to be the only Medical
Doctor among them, Let me say before this
Honourable House and before almighty God
that Dr. Peter Odili have nothing to do with
this so called big hospital in Abuja which has
been paraded and touted by Hon. Sidi Ali.
“If he is sure of his facts, let him stand up and
tell this Hon. House the name of the owner
and prove that I am the owner of this Hospital.
I challenge him to do so, and I challenge
every Nigerian who believes that allegation,
otherwise I am going to take legal action
against him,” Mr. Odili said.
Mr. Kutigi however intervened to say that
there was no need for Mr. Odili to get worked
up since Mr. Ali did not mention the name of
the former Governor he was talking about.
The Hospital being referred to by Mr. Ali is
called Reliance Hospital which is still yet to be
commissioned and is said to be one of the
best private Hospitals in Abuja.
It is located at Area 11 behind the Nipost
Headquaters, in Garki District of Abuja.

ej007: I think Orashi State has suffered a set back. Oguta and Ohaji/Egbema are in Njaba State and i think that's why local governments in Orashi cannot be named yet.

One possible solution is to carve out Igbo speaking areas in Rivers State into the proposed Orashi State and that will constitute: Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Ahaoda West, Ahaoda East, Abua/Odual, Emohua, Ikwerre, Etche, Omuma, Obio/akpor, Eleme, Oyigbo, and Port Harcourt with the capital at Port Harcourt.

I don't know how you will achieve this distorting Rivers map. Emuoha are neighbours to Degema and Asari-Toru. Abua/Odua is a neighbour to Ogbia in Bayelsa State. The truth Ogbia will be fused into the Orashi state.

Thank you OP for bringing up this topic. The greatest mistake we made as a people (Ijaw) was accepting the vice President slot in 2007 during the ND crisis.
As a coastal boy growing up in PH, I never thought a day will come when a Rivers man will put money in place of his people. A typical Rivers man is contended and we don't go extra mile for riches unlike other climes. We agitated for so many things during the ND crisis and I will tell you the boys crippled the govt instead of issues raised to be address, we were giving the Vice President slot which to me was not necessarily. Tell me what we have achieved as a people in our region?

N/B: Niger Delta struggle is far bigger than PDP and APC .
