What else would W.H.O have used to measure pollution, unfriendly/chaotic environment ?
Listen, you don't expect a whole W.H.O to use the word " the most dirties" city do you?

Like I wrote easier on unfriendly or dirty environment is not often refer to as dirty but polluted.
Why are you finding it difficult to understand simple things? The rating was done simply based on particulate matter in the air, PM10. It's not about dirtiness, cos Riyadh the Capital of Saudi Arabia isn't dirtier than Ibadan, Abeokuta or Osogbo.
Even if Onitsha is very dirty, you will agree with me that this rating would change if the analysis is only based on environmental hygiene.
Hope you've read the UN article about about south east being the safest place to live in Nigeria?

Maybe you should check your dictionary for the meaning of the word " Polluted".
Here Is part of the bolded , provided "and household waste and sewage.

I understand that this is hard for you to swallow but, what can we do to amend these?
Too late bro undecided
You don't understand. Onitsha was rated high only based on PM10 which simply talks about particulate matter in the air. The rating wasn't based on household waste and sewage. The report didn't say Onitsha had the highest release of household wastes and sewage in Nigeria. Such a study that would analyse that hasn't been done. They only stated all those to add 'flesh' to the study, but we have earlier been told that it was a measure of particulate matter in the air that put Onitsha as number 1.
Is my point so difficult to understand?
HealthRe: Onitsha Ranked As The Most Polluted City In The World By WHO by Kennydoc(m): 8:34pm On May 13, 2016
Twistaray:
grin Oh really?
Even without the facts up there we all know that Aba and Onitsha are both filled with filths.

A recent study of Onitsha’s water pollution found more than 100 petrol stations in the city, often selling low-quality fuel, dozens of unregulated rubbish dumps, major fuel spills and high levels of arsenic, mercury, lead, copper and iron in its water. The city’s many metal industries, private hospitals and workshops were all said to be heavy polluters emitting chemical, hospital and household waste and sewage.

Read again abeg and until a contrary report is ssay otherwise the one above remains.

cheesy cheesy
So what about the point in bold shows that Onitsha is dirty? It was solely on account of the PM10 that Onitsha was ranked the most polluted, not the dirtiest. Those points you highlighted were just made to buttress their point about the pollution in Onitsha.

The report has nothing to do with development. Okene (Kogi State) for example isn't on the list, but we know it is far less developed than Onitsha. What about Riyadh the Capital City of Saudi Arabia, which is the 6th on the list. Is it also less developed than Osogbo?

Karanka:
I see a lot of folks here don't understand what the post is talking about. Being the most polluted city in the world doesn't generally denote dirtiness; rather,it is based on the particulate matters generated from the city which is in the air. These particulate matters come from sources like soots from vehicles, industries, construction activities,wood-burning etc - generally, industrialization. It's almost a problem with fast growing cities where a lot of industrial activities go on. Countries like China,Saudi Arabia etc have been battling with this for long. Air pollution poses health risks, which can in turn affect the economy of a place. The Nigerian cities affected should simply enact effective policies to mitigate against this, even as they continue with their industrial boom.
Don't mind them. They are too blind and dumb to understand what the study was all about.

Nobody is even considering the fact that Onitsha is a major gateway to the entire south east, therefore most of the vehicles coming into the south east especially from the Lagos and other parts of the south west must enter and exit the south east through Onitsha.
Why won't Onitsha be that polluted considering how small it is in size compared to the activities going on in it?
PoliticsRe: Subsidy Removal, the Reality And The Advantages. by Kennydoc(m): 10:22pm On May 12, 2016
Toks2008:
Over the years Nigerians have been faced with series controversies surrounding subsidy removal and many Nigerians have frowned against this with great ferocity each time the government of the day makes any move to remove it either totally or partially.

Many opposition bodies have used this to campaign against the government of the day and that was the case during the period of President Goodluck Jonathan and many Nigerians were also made to believe that it was indeed a callous move by previous governments to inflict hardship on Nigerians but just yesterday,we got a very surprising news that the APC led government have decided to finally remove subsidy as Petrol will now sell for a maximum of N145 per liter..

The question on the minds of many is why was there a strong move against this in the past? could it be to lack of proper sensitization of the populace by the previous governments?or was it because the lack of trust in the previous administrations or shall we say we have suddenly realized the true picture of the situation on ground? I guess these are questions we will continue to ask ourselves but this write up will address the reality and advantages of subsidy removal from a very layman's perspective and professionals are welcomed to shed more like and correct any form of misinformation.

THE REALITY

FUEL SUBSIDY:
Understanding the madness called “fuel subsidy” requires a walk down memory lane. However, let me start by saying a country like Nigeria, which is also the largest crude oil exporter in the African continent, imports fuel into the country.YES we know this makes no sense. Unfortunately, it does. Nigeria has four national refineries that are barely functional because of the country’s poor planning and maintenance culture, and even more, our refining plants are aging while the pipelines linking these plants have lacked adequate investments and they are terribly unreliable to support uninterrupted domestic production and sadly enough as determined as the government are in ensuring that these refineries are repaired, some interest groups have taken up the habit of destroying these facilities thus Nigeria is forced to refine its crude oil resources outside its borders and then it imports the refined products, mostly from European suppliers, to satisfy the energy needs of its large population.

WHO BENEFITS MORE FROM FUEL SUBSIDY?
Now lets assume the governments spends an average of N40 to subsidize a litre of petrol that is bought by each Nigerian,it means for every 20 liters you buy, the government helps you to pay N800. But the truth is that the rich benefits more because in a month they buy thousands of liters to power their office, homes, cars and so on while an average citizen with a tight budget might just manage to buy 50litres in one month.

Lets ask each other this question;Does it make sense for a government to spend over 1 trillion naira on fuel subsidy yearly to help the rich while lesser amount is marked for other infrastructures that would impact more positively on the average man?

Now lets take a quick look at 7 advantages of subsidy removal:

1. IT REDUCES CORRUPTION IN THE DOWN STREAM SECTOR:

According to the statement made by the former finance minister and coordinator of subsidy removal, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala. “ The removal of oil subsidy will drastically reduce corruption in the down stream sector.” Moreso, deregulation will also help to end the waivers enjoyed by powerful “cabals” at the expense of the Nigerian people...this needs no explanation.

2.PROVISION OF BASIC AMENITIES

The Nigerian governments spends over 1 trillion naira on fuel subsidy each year and this has made it extremely difficult to provide other amenities that would impact more directly in the lives of the citizens. However, if half of the money spent oil subsidy is channeled to other sectors of the economy, Nigeria would have been better for it. Consequently, the money saved from subsidies will be used to improve infrastructure, building good roads and bridges, fund agriculture, pay higher salaries, improve education and health sectors.

3.REDUCTION OF GOVERNMENT DEBT

According to the words of the former Central Bank Governor, Malam Sanusi, one of the long term benefit of the withdrawal of the subsidy is the reduction of government debt and at least help direct that debt to the finance of infrastructure that should create jobs and more inclusive growth. However, it is important to note that Nigerian government often borrow to enable it finance this oil subsidy so as to make the petroleum pump price affordable to a few rich Nigerians who operate or control some of the devices which actually consume the petrol.

4. TRANSFORMATION OF THE PETROLEUM SECTOR

A lot has been said of corruption in this nation, and the time is now to effect the change we need. Reformation of the oil sector which is the life wire of the nation could take the lead.

5. INCREASE IN FOREIGN RESERVE AND SAVINGS

With subsidy removal, Nigerian, government will get to keep more of the money raised from sales of its petroleum product and savings made on its foreign earnings, this will uplift the countries foreign reserves and greatly improves our ratings by international agencies.

6. ESTABLISHMENT OF MORE REFINERIES

It is noted that since 2000, government of Nigeria had issued licenses for refineries, but none was been built for these reason. This is not unconnected to the financial and structure imbalance created in the huge sums, of money expended on petroleum subsidy. However, it is obvious that with subsidy removal, Nigerian government can now use the money saved from subsidy to build refineries which will inturn provide enormous opportunities for employments of our jobless youths.

7. MAKES WAY FOR TRANSPARENCY AND COMPETITION IN THE OIL INDUSTRY

When petroleum subsidy which is rife with corruption and unhealthy practices is no longer there, transparency and healthy competition will return to the petroleum industry.

Lets give the government a chance and make this sacrifice with hope that we will have a new story to tell.Yes we may see a sharp increase in the price of commodities and transportation but in a short while, we will see the positive outcome just as we now see in previously deregulated sectors.
You talked about using the savings from the subsidy to provide basic amenities an so forth. How are you sure the savings will be used judiciously?
This government increased the budget by almost 2 trillion naira relative to last year in thus economic recession, yet only less than 1 trillion naira was added to capital projects.
If a government could budget 500 billion naira on social welfare at a time when as much money as possible should have been channelled to infrastructure, agriculture, power etc, do you really trust such a government to maximise the subsidy savings?

Was the report about Agatu incident also meant to justify killing of northerners by Benue people? What about kidnapping of Olu Falae and killing of His guard? What about other atrocities going on in the middle belt by these herders?

Fizznation has spoken like an intelligent, logical thinker.

What he says might hurt but he hits home.

This is 2016. We are all chatting on mobile phones usually with embedded cameras.

He demands proof of herdsmen grazing their herds in these communities.

He claims the vegetation is not of the quality that might attract cows and sees no reason why these herdsmen would be in these communities in the first place.

Surely, we aren't barbarians in Nigeria. We cannot abandon the scientific, logical approach to problem solving.

Can we look beyond sentiments and provide proof?
If I post pictures of Fulani cattle herders grazing their cattle in Benue for example, how will he know it isn't from the south east? His posts are really illogical. That assertion is very crazy.
I'm from the south east, and I know these herders and their cattle abound in my community and those surrounding mine.

How can you do an internet research about an issue going on in Nigeria, and claim you've done a research? Even in the field of medicine for example, there are very limited data emanating from Nigeria, for numerous cases and conditions. How much more something as unspecific as cattle grazing?

When he carried out his research, didn't he see reports in the national dailies about different confrontations between villagers in the south east and cattle herders? Why weren't those reports adequate for him?

It's actually stupid saying that Fulani herders don't graze their cattle in the SE. Such a statement doesn't deserve a response. If only he attempted to do even the least of field research, he would never have made that useless assertion.
How can he claim that Borno is the main grazing land for the cattle. Do they also graze in Borno between November and March when almost the whole North is dry and green leaves can barely be seen?

For your information, these guys graze not just grasses but anything green. The reason farmers often have clashes with them is that they often take their cattle into farmlands and destroy crops. As a result, some farmers engage them in a fight and in the process, some of their cattle may be killed (or stolen). The killing of villagers often happen in retaliation of the killing (and occasionally stealing) of their cattle.

The roads are bad not because they aren't being tolled or because there is no financial pool for their maintenance. Corruption is the only reason. Contracts for road construction and maintenance are often over inflated, and even at that, the contractors rarely do the work.
Strong political will irrespective of tolls will keep our roads in a very good shape.

Taking Anambra State as a case study, almost all the state roads are in a perfect state. Most of them aren't dualized though, but they are smooth and perfect. That's why Anambra is acclaimed to have one of the best road networks in Nigeria (you can do a Google search on it). But are you aware there is no tolled road in that state? How is the government able to maintain the roads?

Most European countries don't have tolls on their roads. As a matter of fact, tolls are usually instituted when PPP is used in road construction and rehabilitation, not when government bears the burden completely with tax payers' money. Even at that, you also consider the standard of living of the people by considering things like minimum wage, GDP per capita to determine when taxation becomes burdensome for the populace.

What about Anambra and Ebonyi?
It's worthy of note that while 83% of states in the SW are owing their workers, only 40% of SE states are doing the same. I think there is a bit if more financial prudence among the SE governors. Don't you think so?

‪#‎ Iheanacho
And later, somebody will tell me he's 19yrs old. He was at least 12 yrs old when that picture was taken. Does that picture look to anyone like it was taken 7rs ago?
Iheanacho is nothing less than 28yrs now.
Good luck to him, anyway.

SpeakforBS2016,

Which bow? Where? Na wah for misrepresentation ooo!

You will cease to speak for Bull Shyte at the end of today, when the latest attempt to stall this case is dumped into the bin like all others before it...

You lots are beyond ridiculous, Umar who has no case established against him should stand down while a formally charged SP that has brought the senate to disrepute should continue, right

The attempt by Saraki to
A. Continue to stall proceedings.

B. Choose a pliable judge.... will not work!!! #checkmate.

All he needs to do is to prove how he came by his unexplainable riches & other charges, that shouldn't be hard since he is only being "persecuted"..dazall
Sincerely speaking, I wish the point in bold could be done not just by Saraki but also by Tinubu and Obasanjo, the richest politicians in the SW.

Hi People,

Mr common sense senator has been very vocal on social media about issues affecting the federal government.

I think that is great but he seems to be less vocal about the Senate where he was elected to represent his constituency. I find this to be quite hypocritical.

What new legislation has Mr. Common sense promoted to better the lives of Nigerians or his constituency? He was not elected to present his ideas on youtube.

Create legislation to promote your ideas.

Until Mr common sense starts to tackle his primary obligations, It is difficult to take him seriously.
Do you watch senate sittings on TV?
Can you name any senator that has sponsored any bill in this 8th Assembly?

And this happened because the Governor has weakened the IPOB in Enugu, this cant happen in Anambra or Abia, Imo state is also weak but their only protection is that they are at the center of South East.
Until I heard 100 Fulani herds-men's grave discovered in Enugu I wont be happy.
You guys are the ones bringing mockery to Igbos on this forum. The boasting is just stupid and annoying. Over 500 armed terrorists, and you're talking about Anambra and Abia. Let me ask you, if such men appear in your village, how will your people counter them? Let's not even forget that there are very remote rural communities in Anambra, like numerous communities in Mba Mmiri areas of Anambra East and West LGAs who are mainly farmers and are swimming in poverty.

Todays attack in Enugwu is the worst Fulani Herdsmen assault against any community in Nigeria. Dont mind my Ummuna brothers, they may call me yoloba but I dont mind, I would continue to say the truth so as to help my beseiged people.

why are we Igbos trying to down play todays event and preserve our prideful ego? It wont help us in our present suffering. The truth of the matter is that the Fulani's massacred we Igbos in Enugwu today in our hundreds.

Unfortunately buhari and the FG are silent about it. The Enugwu state government is also mute. I fear that the Fulani's might wipe we Igbos into extinctiin in the nearest future if care is not taken and this issue handled properly
You should be ashamed of yourself. You still come to a thread like this and display your idiocy. May you and your family never fall victim of this kind of menace, otherwise you won't have the heart to come and display your stupïdity here.
Stop disgracing yourself, you're not Igbo. Simple ụmụnna and Enugu, you can't spell.

For all those who come to NL to mock other tribes over terrorist attacks like Igbos who mock Yorubas and Yorubas who mock Igbos, or even Igbos who mock those from Middle belt, may God forgive you all, otherwise you will all share in the guilt of the bloodshed caused by the Northern political elite.

As for the president who by his silence has given consent for these attacks, may God judge him appropriately. As the lives of these people have been cut short, so may his tenure be cut short if he refuses to repent, Amen.
