haruna is not rough. he makes good challenges but he certainly is not rough. in any case how can someone be too rough to be a CM and you say he should be an AM? AM is one of the roles where you find the laziest and softest players. Zidane, Diego, Kaka, Sneijder, van der vart, iniesta, nasri are all good examples. its a position that is quite refined

well for those of you claiming that tupac is alive and that he faked his own death i ask you this, why would the U.S government play along with him? he was in hospital for days and then pronounced dead and then tons of police were at the funeral, so why would the U.S government foot the bill for such empty ceremonies? like pac himself said "right before your very eyes", thats where the answer lies. Tupac is dead.

Haruna did mess around with the ball at times but to be honet he was the almost the only nigerian player making smart passes with the exception of one or two passes from ayila. i have a keen interest in Haruna so i was watching his every move, he is not quite developed but he is still better than al our midfielders bar mikel

SportsRe: Obasi Tops Opta Scores by Kgdavid(m): 3:57pm On May 29, 2010
my opinion has nothing to do with it. im just saying that opta is a system of statistics. if you are familiar with the champions league you will recall statistics such as distance covered by individual players as compared to that covered by the team or pass completion rate, accuracy percentage. basically its a tool for quantitative performance evaluation. my whole point is that it is not the coach that hand picked obasi.
SportsRe: Obasi Tops Opta Scores by Kgdavid(m): 10:13am On May 29, 2010
Lagerback did not pick anybody. Opta is a system that compiles facts and statistics. the statistics must have been compiled and it showed that Obasi covered more ground than anyone as well as won more tackles. this i can agree with because although he contributed nothing attack wise he was always tracking back and making tackles on the flank. these are facts not anyones personal choice.

^^in the youth world cup i guess everyone was unhappy with Siasia for puttin Rabiu on the bench. but as time went on and rabiu eventuallly played i got to understand that rabiu is just not mature as a player. skilful as he may be, he has a tendency to disappear and contribute very little.

SportsRe: Yobo And Shittu No World Cup by Kgdavid(m): 9:28pm On May 27, 2010
well i was surprised to see yobo and shittu start as all the other players on the pitch were there to prove themselves and i was thinkin yobo and shittu were definite names for the plane. however as the match started i began to have second thoughts. Yobo is simply past it. as for shittu i can understand that due to the fact that he has not played much this season maybe he is not too match fit or physically fit. Lagerback has already said he is going to work on him specially which is probably why he played. the fact that all nigeria's really key players either came on as subs or did not play at all should be worrying signs for Ayila and Yobo especially as it would appear that they are now relegated to the category of those having to prove themselves. i think Apam and Adeleye are good enough to start for us and Afolabi is a decent player as well. Yobo has to go though Shittu might be worth taking a gamble on.

SportsRe: Nigeria Vs Saudi Arabia (0 - 0) by Kgdavid(m): 9:00am On May 27, 2010
people are judging Yakubu based on hs last performanes for us but the guy was just recovering from an injury and we rushed him back. on his day Yakubu is a threat to any defense in the world. same goes for martins. Ayila has been one of my favorite super eagles midfielders for a long time but sadly it looks like he is fading. perhaps he just had a bad game though. for me though, i have realized that the future is very bright for Nigeria, if you look at the young playersalready in the team and theones coming up in the youth teams, the future is right. i see nigerian national team in four years as

Oliha Apam Adeleye Aliyu

Mikel
Haruna R.Ibrahim/R.Azeez

S.Okoro S.Emmanuel
Anichebe

with the likes of king Osanga, Kenneth Omeruo, Fortune Chukwudi, Gbolahan Salami and Obiora Nwankwo on the bench. salami in particular impressed me greatly at the youth world cup in Egypt. he showed some skill and had a great shot before getting a red card that ended his tournament after only ten minutes of coming on. let these old men finish their shift and then there will be a magnificent changing of the guard. the beautiful ones have been born.

@ sagamite that ur uncle is a terrible fellow but im sure we can agree that the only parallel between him and James Essien is the fact that they were both sexually irresponsible. that is where the similarity ends, James Essien did not run away from his child. in fact all the children used to go and visit him during holidays. the decision was taken (after eight years) by his wife to divorce him and stay away with the children. still James continued to do what he could. you forget that we are talking about a very traditional and probably uneducated man here. what greater gift can ones parents give than education?
SportsRe: Nigeria Vs Saudi Arabia (0 - 0) by Kgdavid(m): 12:42am On May 26, 2010
i think the match was not entertaining but successful in the sense that the fringe players were probably being given a chance to prove themselves. while Anichebe and Haruna did that very well, the likes of shittu, Echiejile and Ayila were below their usual level. whenever i watch Ogbuke play for nigeria i always wonder how he made it as a footballer, such a poor player. on the basis of todays game i would say Anichebe and Haruna are definitely in, John utaka should not even dream about it, Ogbuke is probably out and sadly Yobo should follow suit. Suswan looks distinctly average and i think it is very interesting that lagerback chose to play Kaita at right back for a while. suswan probably may not make the cut. i cant wait to see Etuhu, Mikel, Odemwingie, Martins and I.uche on the pitch at the same time. these are our highest calibre players.

outstrip please pause a second think this through. you say michael was lucky to get a contract? i say he had a father that cared enough to give him the platform to reach his goal. is that not what our parents r there for? they do what they can to give us a platform to succeed in life. James Essien gave his son just that platform. the fact that he has not seen his boy in 15 years is testament to the fact that his son does not want to see him not that he did not want to see his son. a man earning 3 pounds per month spent 6 pounds in one day to take his son for trials, are you people blindhuh

Chelsea star Michael Essien's dad lives in poverty

Chelsea star Michael Essien's dad lives in poverty
EXCLUSIVE: CHELSEA STAR ESSIEN'S DAD
Susie Boniface In Odoben, Ghana 27/01/2008

(What's this?)He drives a 4x4 Porsche, drinks £400 - a - bottle champagne and wears the finest designer clothes.

As one of Chelsea's biggest stars, earning a whopping £90,000 a week, footballer Michael Essien can afford to buy just about anything.

It's a bit different for his elderly father James, though. You don't get to splash out much when you are living on 50p a day.

Home for James, 76, is a tumbledown mud shack with a tatty tin roof in a tiny village in Ghana.

On a pension of just £15 a month he can't even afford to buy firewood to cook his food.

James - known as J.K. - has seen millionaire Michael only once in the last 10 years following a family rift.

But far from being bitter - or wanting a chunk of his superstar son's fortune - he says: "I just want him to let me be a real dad to him.

"I want to go to see his matches - and maybe if he could buy me a second-hand fridge, life would be more comfortable for me.

"Michael has done so well, I am very proud of him. He has raised the Essien name up high. When I wake up the first thing I do is pray for him, that he will excel in all his matches."

J.K. lives alone in the village of Odoben, an hour's drive from the town of Ewutu Bwajiase in Ghana where Michael was born.

In pride of place on the living room wall is his most treasured possession - a poster of Michael playing for Ghana's national team, the Black Stars. J.K. watches every match he can on his tiny eight-year-old TV which picks up a crackly signal from a makeshift aerial.

The family rift began when Michael's mother, Aba, divorced J.K. because he refused to give up his three other wives.

After the split she claimed he had refused to provide for Michael and his sister, Dinah.

J.K. says: "She was my fourth wife and we were married for eight years. But when Michael was two she wanted me not to see the others, and I said no.

"I knew I had responsibilities to him as a father and did what I could. But at that time I was a tool collector for the council earning about £3 a month, and I just could not afford to.

"I had to pay for my other wives and children too. It is right in the sense I did not pay as much as I should have, but I tried my best."

But he adds: "I saw Michael whenever I could, I got him a scholarship to a good school, and I took him to his try-outs for his first under-12s team."

J.K. realised his son had a special talent for the game before he took his first steps. He says: "I was a footballer too when I was young and played for local teams, but had to give it up because at that time there was no profit in it.

"And before Michael could walk he was playing with a ball. He would roll it around with his hand, he would go to bed with a football. Soon he was playing it all the time and I would have kick about with him.

"He was a very good boy, calm and humble. He never insulted anyone or was rude, he was happy and outgoing. All he was interested in was football. The few times he did misbehave I would say, 'If you don't calm down, you're not to play football today'. He would stop right away and do whatever I wanted, he was so desperate to play."

One day J.K. heard there were trials for an under-12s team in the capital, Accra. He spent a precious £6 on a return trip for him and his son, who made it through the final stages to win a place at a soccer academy where he stayed for a year.

Then he started high school on a paid-for scholarship granted after J.K., on a trip to see the headteacher about a place for his son, was in a car accident and laid off work for a year.

Michael graduated at 14, the school-leaving age in Ghana, and was immediately signed-up to the under-17s squad of local side Liberty Professionals. In 1999, aged 16, he was spotted by talent scouts playing in the youth version of the World Cup and signed up to French team SC Bastia.

J.K. says: "When he was with Liberty he lived in Accra and was training a lot, but he rang me regularly and came to visit in the school holidays.

"When he went to France he stayed in touch, and everything was good between us. He sent home money to help me through his mother.

"She would ring me and say she had some money, and I had to travel to her to get it. I would spend maybe £3 getting there and then she would give me £25 or sometimes £10.

"Sometimes if I had not been for six months or so she would give me £50. It was not really enough to help me. But I never complained to her or to Michael because it was not my place.

"I was a beggar, and had to be grateful. If things were tough and I was struggling to put food on the table I had to ring his mother and ask for help."

But as Michael's star rose the family rift escalated.

His sister Betty, 27, says: "Michael's mother wanted him to pay for her and her children.

"Michael tried to help his brothers and sisters a few years ago and gave us all £50 each, but it was never repeated.

"A few months ago my father was so upset he mixed a poison to drink so he could kill himself.

"It was only because a family friend turned up before he had drunk too much that he was saved. Michael has no idea how much we are suffering."

In 2005 Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich paid a record £24million to sign Michael, whose earnings shot up to £30,000 a week.

But J.K. says all payments to him stopped apart from the delivery, two years ago, of a £500 third-hand Mitsubishi Galant, which J.K. has been too poor to fill with petrol for the past 18 months.

Meanwhile, Michael had fallen in love with a Ghanaian-born woman called Dela, whom he met in France. He introduced her to his mother - but not his father.

As is traditional, the couple had a formal engagement agreed by both families, allowing them to live together.

Dela moved with him to London but the couple soon fell out. Last week Michael arrived back in Ghana to play for his country in the Africa Cup Of Nations, the equivalent of the European Championships.

J.K. scraped together the money to visit his ex-wife, and asked her to arrange a visit with Michael.

He says she refused, and he was turned away from the door.

He says: "It was the saddest day of my life. There is no way to describe it. Michael's mother lives in a lovely house with lots of luxuries and I have nothing - most importantly I do not even have my son.

"People come to see me here and laugh at me and say, 'Oh, you're Michael Essien's father, but you live like this'.

"They ridicule me, but I am still proud of him.

"I would like to be able to go to a match and see him play live. But the tickets are about £30, so I don't think I will manage it.

"But I hope in my heart the day will soon come when my son comes back to me - and corrects all the wrongs that have been done."

the bolded quotes tell the story perfectly. it takes a heart of stone to do what michael is doing
FamilyRe: Should Micheal Essien (of Chelsea FC) Support His Father More? by Kgdavid(m): 11:30am On May 25, 2010
Livvvvy:
In my opinion, Micheal father isn't a good man.

1. Going public is only disgracing Micheal, and that is what he wants to achieve.
2. Some men could be very wicked to their first wife just because they have seen another beautiful woman and they have small money at hand to waste away. so the children from the first woman suffers
3. (Men don't joke with their mothers.)That man may have done something terrible to micheal's mother, before they finally seperated.
4. Am sure, he never thought anything good could come from Micheal's mother and his children.
5. Atleast Micheal sends money to him, but with his too many wives and kids, you would expect him to use the money to fend for the women and their kids.
6. The other women want to reap where they did not sow (they should be reaping from their own kids, mayb they don't know they are branded as husband snatchers)
7. Papa needs more than money from Micheal, and that is a Relationship. Well, Relationship are built. He never built one and he cannot have one.
8. It is difficult for Micheal to suddenly become his father's friend

This is a a big lessons to men who forgets that they may be strong today and probably don't see their children as anything now, but tomorrow they would be needing the help and support of their children.

In it all, for humanity sake, Micheal should try and manage to give his father a befitting life at his old age now, than a beffiting burial tomorrow.
you should try and read and compreend before commenting as almost everything you say here is refuted in the articles.

1.he never went to call anyone to witness his plight, rather it was discovered by accident. should he then lie to cover up for Essien? why?

2. where did you read that michaels mother was the first wife? and where did you read that he had small money to waste? in fact the woman was the last wife thus by default you are now at odds with your own argument.

3. the articles clearly state that the michaels mother left her husband because she wanted him to divorce his other wives. is this the terrible thing he did to her or the terrible thing he refused to do?

4. you are sure he never thought any good could come from michaels mother and children? so what makes you sure of this? the fact that of all the children he had he personally made sure that his last child could get an education? or the fact that he personally took his boy to the football club where he started his career?

5. 25 pounds?

6. where are other women mentioned in any relevance in any of the articles? the saga is strictly between michael and his father.no other women nonsense.

7. well how are you to build a relationship when you dont get to see someone? in the early years of essiens life his father claims he actually would play football with him, he obviously watched michael play or how else would he know that michael was good? this shows that the man tried.

8. there is no way to address you last point because it really does not qualify as a point.

your entire post is based on speculation when there was available information, was it that hard to take two minutes to read through?
FamilyRe: Should Micheal Essien (of Chelsea FC) Support His Father More? by Kgdavid(m): 11:13am On May 25, 2010
i am convinced that the majority of people on this thread did not bother to read all three articles. did you miss the part where the man said he did not have anything to give? looking at the state of his house why is that so hard to believe? did you miss the [part where Essien would not even have a career if not for his dad? the fact is that Michael Essien is an irresponsible shameless liar. and for those who are saying the old man should not be telling this to the world i have to ask what is wrong with you? did the man get up to go and call media houses to come or they decided to go and interview him and thus discovered the horror themselves?
FamilyRe: Should Micheal Essien (of Chelsea FC) Support His Father More? by Kgdavid(m): 11:52pm On May 24, 2010
@ sagamite i will agree with you when you say he was irresponsible sexually but that is the only crime i can see. i mean financially he did what he could which urned out to be little but morally he ensured that essien had an education and gave him the platform from which he built his career and emotionally you have to remember that it was Essiens mother who made the decision to cut off the father. if you read this and many other stories about Essien you begin to see another side of his character. if he could lie about building the man a house then all may not be what it seems. its like saying a man has 10 k and 10 kids so he gives each child 1 k. will one of the children turn around and insult the man because he had ten kids instead of having only 1 so that he could have the entire 10 k to himself?

the level of hypocrisy here is disgusting. the guy asked a question because he does not know the answer as he is not familiar with western culture. you might be familiar with western culture but his question is legitimate because there are differences between what wives are expected to do everywhere.
