warrah: Should Nigeria be divided along ethnic lines or should Nigeria be restructured .......What's the best solution that would leave every Tom and dick happy . The North has said it will be over their dead body that Nigeria will be restructured. A restructured Nigeria makes no sense to Northerners because it will deny them the one thing they care about above all else, power. Anybody hoping for restructuring should forget it. |
Politics › Re: Thank You Nnamdi Kanu, You May Sit Down. by kingzizzy: 11:14am On Jun 27, 2017 |
mekaboy: They do. The Biafra Agitation should come behind the call for restructuring. Restructure or Secede. People like you have been talking about restructuring since Aburi, 50 years ago. Why do you think that restructuring has never been? The North is totally against it. So you you can shout restructuring from now to another 50 years, it will not happen. The North is against restructuring for two main reasons 1) It will take away their control of Nigeria because a restructured Nigeria where power is devolved to the regions will the center, Abuja, very weak. 2) A restructured Nigeria actually helps Biafra. When Nigeria is restructured into SE/SE/SS ans each region is controlling their resources, politics, their own regional assembly, Regional police and maybe regional Army. How long do you think it will be before one of the secedes? A restructured SW/SE/SS is a potential Oduduwa Republic, Republic of Biafra and Niger Delta Republic. The North knows this, so does IPOB So if you are hoping for restructuring, you better have a plan B because the North will never allow restructuring. |

einsteine: How did Ojukwu rise ahead of Philip Effiong when Effiong was already a Captain while Ojukwu was just a lieutenant? Philip Effiong was commissioned in 1956 while Ojukwu was commissioned in 1957. The reason Ojukwu leapfrogged over Effiong was that Ojukwu had joined the civil service as a graduate in 1955. So when Ojukwu moved over to the Army, it was seen as a continuation of his civil service and his commission date was backdated from 1957 to 1955 thereby becoming senior to Effiong. |

I am not sure Maimalari attended all the schools you listed above before he was commissioned as an officer and before this picture was taken in 1959. Let us not forget that long before Ojukwu declared Biafra, he was already Governor of the Eastern Region. Kanu has not held any high office, so definitely, how both men will go about getting Biafra will not be the same.
If Igbos and the minorities are serious about pulling out of Nigeria, they have to use a number of non violent actions to put pressure on the government to give them referendum. One of those non violent actiond is election boycott in Anambra. This is one potent way to get the political elite in Igbo land and indeed Nigeria to take Biafra very serious.
Im an Anambra man and I support election boycott in my state! |

seunmsg: I read somewhere now that he left the army just before the civil war. But it is really curious how he was overlooked for the top three military positions in the country when the British left. Even Maimaleri who was a captain when he was already a major was appointed brigade commander of the second brigade in Lagos and all they gave him was commander of federal guards company under a junior officer. Does it have anything to do with his competency or ethnic minority status? Think of it this way. Someone with HND and another with masters degree start working in the same organisation. Which of them is likely to be be promoted faster? Of course the Master Deegree holder. Take Bassey(N1) and Maimalari(N5) for example. Bassey was a serving soldier when he was selected from the lower ranks and sent on a 3 months "short service" officers course to England. On completion of the course, he became the first Nigeria officer and was given the Army number (N1). Maimalari finished secondary school, was recruited into the Army and sent to : Regular officers training school (ROSTS) Eaton Hall military cadet school, England Royal military Academy, Sandhurst. It took Bassey only 3 months to be an officer while it took Maimalari 3 years. Maimalari was far more qualified than Bassey. Thats why by 1965, Maimalari was already a Brigadier and Bassey was still a Lt Colonel |

But I want to State my points.
Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio cannot speak for the whole akwa ibomites. We the Akwa Ibomites we have 3 different sub tribes with their dialects which are Ibibio, Annang and the Oro nation.
So this Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio of a group can't generalize for we the akwa ibomites.
Let a referendum be conducted and let's hear the voices of the masses and the truth shall be unfolded that all the Ibibios, Annang, Efik and Oro nation are tired of this Zoo and are all willing to back Namdi Kanu. I rest my case cos me I no dey talk much. The last president of Biafra, General Philip Effiong, was an Annang man. |

taiyeayodeji: i am so sad that most of our youth dont know the effects of war,i watched an events where nnamdi kanu was begging from Ibos in USA for guns AND SAYING those in UK dont have money to give them guns.Ofcourse, i believe the Ibos have a right to a self existence state. However, i believe that the steps taking towards it is totally wrong and it may be absurd to compare europe and asia with Africa. If you say malysia broke, pakistan broke up, united arab broke up etc. These are two different continents and different scenerio. If you say the new trend is conducting referendum, has africa got to this level where people carry out referendum without being manipulated. Our elections are manipulated in Nigeria and i dont see any elections that is not manipulated,so asking for referendum in Africa may not be the solution. I must say that the comfortable Nigerian Igbos wont want to disintegrate, there is power in a bigger country than a smaller country.I strongly believe that the Biafra issue will come to pass some day in future, when this come, it would come naturally without any violence. Now it will be hyprocritical to deny that the approach taken by Nnamdi Kalu is a violent option,His words are not polite as a leader, he speaks carelessly which is not expected of a leader. The process of disintegeration is a long process and not something to be rushed at, there is need to plan and also it is in phases.i watched a video on the Nigerian Civil war and i saw that the Igbos lost greatly during the war, lots of children died of hunger, lots of casualty on the biafran side. There were no sign of war in the Nigerian cities, activities were going on as normal in the Nigerian states while billions of innocent igbos were dieing in masses.i am sorry,i have africans friends who have experienced war and they will tell you that war is nothing good and they wish all africans would learn from their cases.Dont be decieved by those who are saying that they can bring Biafra out without war but by referendum, what step has kanu taken towards approaching this, has he met the united nation.Does he have support of the UNITED NATION.I must say doing this without any support may cause another genocide.I believe the igbos claim to be christians,do they really know if this is the right time for BIAFRA to come out. What i believe should be done now is for Nigerians to call for restructuring, every state should be independent and control its resources and also send a share to the federal government.it is sad that most people financing Biafra are abroad, in the event of war, their family are out of nigeria, and they wont be there to die ,let our youth recieve common sense and fight against corruption and bad rulers. The Ibos are very rich and successful people in the whole world, i believe that if they develop their region without waiting for the government, the life of the people can be comfortable and the standard of living improved greatly. Nobody is talking about war, what they are saying is referendum. Referendum is not usually manipulated because those who would manipulate it have nothing to gain. It is not like usual elections where people are fighting office |

My take as a Biafran Credibility of elections is to a large extent hinged on voter turn out. If the Anambra electorate to a large extent, decide to boycott the elections, who ever wins will have no credibility.
