PoliticsRe: Doyin Okupe: Wept, Saw Hopelessness When IPOB Members Were Waving Biafran Flags by kingzizzy: 3:17pm On Jun 25, 2017
Jackpat:
Do you know that:

During the Nigeria/Biafra war in which over 3million Igbos were killed, nobody died from Ojukwu's family?
You may have to check again because Ojukwus own brother, Tom Bigger, died in the early stages of the war

And are you aware that Ojukwu reunited with Gowon to enjoy national cake together fourty years after?
So? The war was over, why wont they unite? When Ojukwu was fighting for Biafra, he was public enemy no 1. When he now returned and accepted 'one Nigeria', he is still public enemy. Haba!

Are you even aware that at this moment no Nnamdi KANU's family is likely to join you in the war if it eventually starts.
Are you some kind of soothsayer who sees the future? Are you aware that Kanus parents have led IPOB protests in Portugal? Are you aware that Kanus wife has led IPOB protests in London and in Germany? Are you aware that Kanu's own Mother and sisters have led IPOB protests in the East?

Now the question is are you this stupid and dumb, to start this war while this pple are ready to flee their families out the country.
Only you Nigerians are talking about war. Kanu and IPOB are talking about peaceful referendum.

Dear blind supporters of the agitation please try get sense of reason with your head not with your anus okay.

Instead of trying to divide Nigeria, why not let's join hands and fight the Government,
Remember all states in Nigeria receives Allocation Fee
A certain amount that is been giving to your Governor to develop your state.
Fight your Governor, Let him give account of how he spent the money.

Remember if war should hit now, our mothers will be raped,
Our Sisters will be molested
We will lose our babies , and lose our loved ones.

Say No to War .
Thanks
To be a Nigerian is not by force. We were all forced together by the British and not by mutual consent. If their are people who feel they can do better outside Nigeria, those people should be allowed to exit while the rest of you carry on with Nigeria

If you think Kanu's approach has or will do anything, then continue believing so. But don't ever make the mistake of thinking realistic SSners are not doing something! Just because they don't go about shouting afonja and Hausa, doesn't mean negotiations are not being made and our future is not being discussed.
Not everyone will take a suicidal path to actualize their dreams. In war, alliance is the key, not noise making and chest beating.
Get real. The North will never allow any sort of restructuring in Nigeria. Not now, not ever. If anyone thinks that the North will agree to restructuring, which will take away their political and economic control of Nigeria, that person needs to have his head examined.

The truth is that everyone and every ethnic group in the South of Nigeria will at some point have to face the same choice Ojukwu faced 50 years ago, accept "Northern controlled Nigeria" or fight for your sovereignty. Anyone thinking there are other choices out there are mistaken.

People like Kanu have already made their choice.

The write up is laughable as who ever wrote it. How can freedom, self determination and self rule be misrepresented as a lie? These are basic fundamental rights of any human being or people. I dont expect everybody to like Kanu or IPOB's approach, however, I do expect people to understand the right of self determination. It should be the right of the constituent people that the British forced into a colonial contraption they called 'Nigeria' to decide for themselves if they want to continue with that union or opt out.

Britain created Nigeria. Britain willing joined the EU, but they opted out last year

Scotland been part of Britain for over 300 years, but they got a referendum in 2014 to choose to continue or to opt out.

Yet, the ethnic nationalities who never gave their consent to the creation of Nigeria are being told that they have no right to opt out if they so wish?

Kanu is a messenger. Focusing on the messenger and not the message its self is very foolish.

Biafra is not a lie, it is my right. It is my right to decide if I want to be Nigerian or not, Kanu or no Kanu does not take that right away from me.

Instead of Kanu to be realistic and address issues, he still spews hate rhetoric against the Hausa and Yoruba, forceful language on the composition of Biafra, and idealistic images of Biafra as if it won't be peopled with the Igbos in Nigeria today.
To be honest, Kanu's approach is much better than that of people like you who think that the destiny of the southern minorities is to perpetualy remain in Nigeria and beg the North for restructuring/resource control.

Well if you are waiting for the peaceful dissolution of Nigeria you are waiting for a non event. If you truly want Biafra prepare and Win an Independence War. Any other method would be frustrated and won't see the light of day. If and whenever Biafra prevails in the War, they would have earned the right to have their own country. Any other thing is just wasting time. The federal Government would never yield to these terrorists disturbing the peace. Sooner or later they would have to put up or shut up.
Let me tell you something which you may not know. No country ever survives two civil wars. Should there be a second Biafran war, regardless who wins or loses, it will be the end of Nigeria. Unlike Nigeria that thinks that war is the answer to everything, IPOB has chosen to explore peaceful alternatives to achieving Biafra such as election boycott.

Ultimately, there is a limit to how long anyone can be held against their will before they fight for their freedom

Back then in school, my best friend was Emeka, we virtually do everything together. I could vividly remember how we were running with a pot of soup for about 1mile, a soup we took from our lodge-mates. undecided

Nigerians should shun hate and tribalism for pete's sake. It doesn't help anyone but rather it brings you down undecided
People like you dont want to face reality. That Lord Lugard brought us together was never a guarantee that we would all get along. Nigeria is but the artificial creation of the white man and the time has come for us to stop living this age old lie called 'one Nigeria'

OIL and Global implications

Nigeria’s economy depends almost entirely on oil from Niger Delta states. The west and the north’s interest are deeply embedded in the “south south.” The idea of a peaceful dissolution of Nigeria is thus impossible. The financial interests of the power that be are too grave. As long as there is oil, There can be no peaceful dissolution of Nigeria.. Western powers will also be reluctant in supporting Biafra, because a Biafra that includes the oil producing regions will have ripple effects on the global oil market. The actualization of Biafra will also destabilize Africa. A dissolution of Africa most populous country will send shock waves across Africa as other indigenous people will also fight for secession in their various amalgamations. Western powers stand to lose in a destabilized Africa. It is in the interest of America (and the west) to keep Nigeria one for the sake of global market stability.

Kanu should run for office

Kanu is the undisputed leader of the Igbos and Biafrans. Kanu can easily become governor of a state and can also influence the elections of other eastern states. With Kanu, and his people in power, he can drastically improve the quality of life for his people, and provide the roads, schools and power that the current system failed to provide. The no election in Biafra land policy only makes it easy for the powers that be to be re-elected and continue the status quo. The no election policy simply means that the elite only need a handful of votes to retain their hold on the masses.
Biafra as a completely independent entity will be costly, and the “zoo” will not allow it to go in peace. A semi-autonomous state within a state seems more viable without bloodshed. Kanu can change Biafra land as a legitimate elected official. Federal government allocations embezzled by the likes of Okorocha, Amaechi, Obiano etc will finally be entrusted to Kanu and his people. This way we avoid war, and Kanu can have political control of Biafra land.
Are you not ashamed of your self to pen this write up? So the unity of Nigeria is all about oil and gas wealth? Well, its not like all Nigerians didnt know this, it is just that hypocrisy rules Nigeria.

Kanu is seeking something that is higher than political office. He is seeking freedom and emancipation.

Only a fool will say that his freedom is costly

Been on Nairaland for a while now and to be honest, the hate amidst the youth here is disappointing. We are suppose to be at the helm of the affairs in this country, but we are here hating on eachother, we should be ashamed of ourselves. If we channel the strength we use in searching for names when any news on crime comes up to fighting for eachother, we would be better. This is why the old people at the helm of Nigerian politics since independence are still thriving till today because we as youths have refused to take our stand in the affairs of the country instead, we fight against eachother and the old politicians attend eachother's events. This is what they want, they want us to fight eachother and as long as we fight, they would have the tools and time to perpetrate their selfish acts and remain at the top as long as the youths are looking for the right things at the wrong places. This is not the way forward... Instead of hating online, I suggest that we use our internet presence for something positive for the youths and the future of our country... Something that will reiterate our presence in this country as a force that must be reckoned with.
The only disappointment in your write up is that you are yet to realise that Nigeria is not a nation but a colonial contraption.

He faulted the sit-at-home order issued by Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB), saying the order also contravened the law.

Ekpoudom said IPOB had no constitutional authority to order a section of the country to sit at home without the consent of the Federal Government, adding that “It amounts to running a parallel government.”
Complete arrant nonsense. It amazes me when people who have held high office make statements like these that exposes them as one who has the intellectual capacity of a 5 year old.

People willingly heeded the IPOB call to stay at home, now it is illegal? Where it would have been illegal is if IPOB had prevented people from going out. This man should go and rest.

Some Yorubas are laughable. They bow to any elder. A few people bow to Kanu and they take it that the entire Igbo nation has adopted bowing as a way of life. I suspect that what actually makes them angry is the respect that Kanu is getting. They thought that after flashing pictures of Kanu in handcuffs, Kanu would have no face to show upon release. They did not know that those pictures did the opposite, and elevated Kanu to position of an authentic freedom fighter. There were many Igbos who were not sure of Kanu until he was arrested, detained, denied bail, brought out in handcuffs and ridiculed. Then those Igbos asked themselves why such a man would leave the comfort of his London base to willingly come back to Nigeria to suffer all this if he wasnt authentic. Kanu proved them wrong, and hopefully, by the time this all over, I will be applying for my Biafran passport.

Igbos generally do not bow. Im Igbo and I have never bowed to anyone, not even the king of my village. However, Kanus case is exceptional. A lot of Igbos are coming to see him as a liberator, peharps even a replacement for Ojukwu. In that sort of scenario, I can understand why some Igbos would bow to him. As for Kanu bowing to some elders, he is a judaist, I believe its part of his program

Lets not all forget that the area now called Bayelsa used to be part the old Eastern Region that broke away as Biafra. Then, it was called the Yenagoa province. So when I hear people ask 'Bayelsa is now Biafra?, I wonder if these people know Nigerian history.

As for Bayelsa not being South South, in Nigerian law, there is no area called 'South South'

igbodefender:
The Northern youths want to force a referendum that only South East Igbos would be allowed to vote in. South South Igbos where Igbo Land has ports will not be allowed to decide. If the South East Igbos choose to separate as is widely expected, they will become a surrounded country. That means they will be forced into a customs union with the new Nigeria.

Since the new Nigeria surrounds them on all sides, they (the new country) will be forced to pay crippling customs duties to use Nigeria's ports. So, that means if a company at Nnewi, Aba begins to export cars, computers, etc., and make billion$, someone sitting in Abuja can suddenly impose very high tariffs to kill that Biafran industry.

They will then laugh at Igbos on places like Nairaland because such independence will only be on paper. If they close there border, the new country will be forced to send people to Abuja to beg them to reopen, and will probably be given tough conditions like allowance of grazing reserves in their tiny country.
And Im telling you that a SE referendum cannot be forced because neither the SE or the SS exist in Nigerian law. What is recognised in the Nigerian constitution is Igbo, not SE or SS. So if a referendum is held just for Igbos, it will be in the congregation of wards that identify as Igbo. Wards and Igbo are recognised in Nigerian law, SS and SE are not.

I dont see the point of this thread. The so called SE or SS is not recognised in the Nigerian constitution. So if a referendum is conducted for only Igbos/Igboids only, the SE or SS cannot be used. I suspect that a 'ward system' will be used whereby wards that profess to be Igbo or Igboid will be congregated and a referendum held there.
