AKAINZO

I am quite amazed at all the emotions displayed so far, but hardly any gainful analysis of the toll situation. All I see are abuses and various vituperations. It's quite a bad taste indeed.

For me, the Lekki toll situation is first a lesson for Fashola in public perception management and also ability to engage stakeholders properly.

Truth be told, prior to the LCC's so called "adding one extra lane",  a trip from Chevron to Ozumba junction can take like 3 hours!!! Now that same journey takes about 15 minutes. Which one would Lekki residents prefer?

The so called alternative route through Oniru did exist before the LCC construction, but what was its state prior to now, how many people ventured to pass there when the Mobil junction was still a single lane? Now that same road can be used as an alternative to the 1st Toll Plaza. So indeed there is an alternative route if one doesn't feel inclined to pay toll, only problem is you can't expect the alternative to be as good as the main one.

Now many have said it is not only the rich that stay in Lekki, that is indeed the truth. The other truth however is that the poor should not pay, AND they would not pay. They do not pay as they simply do not own cars. The toll is for vehicles passing, not for human beings. And BRT buses are available as public transport for them to use.

Also while Lekki is majorly residential, there are many companies also making Lekki there head office/warehouse/factory/office thus Lekki is not entirely residential as there is even an EPZ right there.

Now tell me, why is the computed cost for the so called average "poor family" in Lekki based on 2 cars!!! Are we saying a family with 2 cars is poorhuh To my mind the average poor family would not have 2 cars, neither would they need to commute to VI daily except they work there. Also, the only reasons indigenes would commute to VI daily is for work, or are they going on a visit to relations daily?

This is a protest by the elites who wants to enjoy the benefits of the expanded road but would rather not pay a dime to get it maintained. The hypocrisy needs to stop. This so called villagers are using that same upgraded road as reason to sell their lands at 2.5M per plot rather than the 900K it was before the upgrade. So who is fooling who?

This is a concoction of lies to that only those who don't live on this axis will believe.

Truth be told, traffic have not improved on the road. Compare off peak traffic to peak traffic as evidence of dicongestion is cheap lies. Between Lekki R/about and Ozumba link bridge, it still takes average one hour during peak traffic for a distance of one kilometer orthereabout.

The so called elite you accuse of wanting free service actually pay heavy taxes for no service. My family along pays N300K per month and we would be making nothing less than N50,000 monthly to go to that work that generate N300K to LASG. Is this fair?

AKAINZO please note
Only those who collude with the ACN thieves will endorse the day light robbery called tolling.

Attached are pictures of ACN thugs departing after beating us up at the protest yesterday.

Good government you will say.
PoliticsRe: Occupy Lekki: Lekki Toll Gate Protest-update by Kinikini: 9:17pm On Dec 17, 2011
A protester’s account of Occupy Lekki Protest

My husband and I were there at the protest.  We are survivors.
It was a peaceful protest (chanting and singing protest songs.)  The heavily armed police men harrased, arrested some of the crowd un-necessarily and did all they could to disrupt the protest.  The next thing we knew was tear gas shot into the crowd of peaceful protesters.  The next assault came from hired thugs, ACN members.  They came in cars and buses and started beating up the crowd. People were running helter-skelter (including females) and some had to jump over the fence built by LCC and injured themselves in the process. My husband and I were amongst the lucky few to have left the scene a bit later than most others, we had to quickly remove the protest T-shirts and caps when we were chased and almost beaten by the thugs.  We had the opportunity on our way home, in our car to recognise the same thugs who harassed us, in their vehicles leaving the scene and branching off at Jakande bus-stop.  They had ACN banners in these vehicles. In fact, they were making a show of their thuggery from the Maruwa round about (where we sighted them) till they branched off at Jakande roundabout. Obviously hired thugs/members of the ACN party.
Majority (if not all) of those who participated in this protest are professionals who want to voice their opinion about the tolls and had NOTHING to do with politics.  Tax-payers who want to express their voice, the same way protests are being done around the world. It is a shame that the people who were not there, could say that the crowd of responsible people chanting and singing protests songs, could be agents of other political parties.
Our protest
For those who are not aware, LCC did not build the road.
They only expanded to three lanes from two (2).  They also seemingly beautified the area with pavements, streetlights that do not work beyond Lekki Phase 1.  LCC (poor job done actually) expanded the existing road built by Jakande and constructed pedestrian flyovers that are of inferior quality (nothing compared to what exists along the Ikorodu Road) and wants to collect tolls for the next thirty years at exorbitant rates.  To add insult to all these, they decided that not only are they collecting the tolls at a single point but THREE (3) within a 25km stretch. INCREDIBLE!!!  Alas, they decided that they were going to collect tolls before finishing the entire road work that had been concessioned to them.
Fashola claim that they need funds to carry out projects in other parts of Lagos and the concession of this axis is necessary in order to satisfy other parts of Lagos.  So the masses in this area should pay for the entire state when they also pay the same taxes that other people pay.
• The government built the Bourdillon road (very high quality by Julius Berger and not the inexperienced HiTech being used by LCC for poor quality jobs) and decided not to toll. WHYhuh
• They built Igando road (Julius Berger again and very good quality) and decided not to toll.  WHY againhuh?
• They beautified Ikeja and reconstructed parts of the roads in that axis and decided not to toll.  WHY again and againhuhhuh
My demands
• Do I get a tax rebate for the tolls paid for going to work, coming back home, taking my children to school, going to the hospital and going to the market?
• Why do I have to incur more costs than my contemporary who lives on the mainland because I was stupid enough to build my house along this axis? Because this now amounts to stupidity, if I have to pay tolls, to go home.
REALITY
1 Apart from this so-called expansion on the road, what other government presence is there on this axis.  And yet this axis must pay for other part of the State.
2 How do you toll a cosmopolitan road that thousands of people ply, several times in a day, for 30 years.  All in the name that you spend billions of naira to construct the road. And expect that the people will take this without a pinch of salt.
3 If you start tolling now before completing the road, then we are already paying for the construction of the remaining part of the road work and then we should not be asked to pay at any other toll plaza again.
4 The government does not have money to construct, but the Head of the State Board of Internal Revenue (a civil servant) is so rich as to lavishly celebrate his daughter’s wedding for a stunning amount (obviously taxpayers money).  And he is getting away with obvious corruption when people are slaving to pay taxes to the Government. That is obviously acceptable to the powers that be, in the state.
5 My children will only remember tolls for their youthful lives. The question is WHYhuhhuh??

Preaching in a bus is a violation of the right of the other occupants who may wants their quitness. Preaching in a bus is an abuse of freedom of speech. We should tow the path of moderation in whatever we do in this country. Despite all the noise born again, churches in all streets spreading like wildfire, there is no iota of improvement in our conduct. Corruption have so pervaded even the churches such that it is a business to make mega Billions for the pastor, the spouse and the offsprings.
The wise should reflect.
If the other religion decides to preach in a bus , would you the fire spilting evangelist like the forced listening? Definitely not. So why do it to others. Must I be forced to listen?

Most of us are being sentimental on this isssue because it bothers on religion. In UK where i stay presently, you can wear whatever you like on your school uniform. Nobody cares since it will not contribute to what you learn. Even at work places, you can where whatever you like.

Why are we so much disturbed if somebody wears hijab to school? Will that disturb what the teacher intends to teach or will that aid the student's understanding of the lecture eing delivered by the teacher?

Me thinks that generally men have weaknesses just like women. One weakness with majority of men whether rich or poor, black or white or whatever is love of women. They don't get fulfilled with one woman for a life time. Men just want to keep having more and more regardless they are married or not. Married women who can stomach the excessess stay in matrimony while those who cannot get out. It is a choice and no man should be considered immune to philandering. Women should decide what they can live it.

Little did we envisage that this native and illiterate people are envious of the trash going-on in Pakistan, Afghanistan and other moslem countries. To me after watching the 'fuel project, know your enemy' somebody posted to one of the tread on this site. I believe all these moslem trashes is going to end one day when good people all over the world will unite and ban this moon worshipping religion. They have been expose as noting more than idol 'moon' worshippers. Mohammed only asked his people to regard 'Al'la' moon Goddess who had many sub-gods under her not to worship the sub-god but regard the 'Al al' the main moon god as their only God. That is their Allah today. Go on folks Google this: 'The fuel project: know your enemy' your eyes will open. You don't expects people who are being beaten not to cry. Moslem's must expects fire for fire when they choose to put bomb to people's head in the name of their 'Moon God'. They must expects a fight back. They foolish-ling thinking they can violation and murder people in the name of Alla, which is in their holy book anyway and the people will just sit back. I don't know how many people they are able to convert doing all this atrocities. There days are numbered.

A clear case of ignorance. Good Muslims have got a lot of enlightenment to do if there are pple who think of the faith like fergie.

True, the guy was misguided. But there are many like him in waiting to become suicide bombers up north may be south too. The social economic situation created by Nigerian leaders over the years is very conducive for terrorism and other violent crimes to grow.
For the muslim haters, another good opportunity to bash Islam is here and already they are having a feast. Note, hatred does not cure hatred. The guy that committed terror lived on hatred just like you venting pent up hatred of Islam right now. Actually, hatred ultimately destroys the hater.
It is better we become objective in our comments and be just to one another not to commit same sin we blame others.

Islam does not sanction killing of innocent people whether muslims or not. This fact we made clear to those willing to listen and are unbiased. The acts of a few misguided muslims is not the act of the entire muslim faithfuls.Peace.

Over 100 women from Ogbaozalla and Ibeku communities in Opi, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State on Tuesday protested against the rape of old women by young men in their community.

The perpetrators, aged between 17 and 25 years, had recently been caught raping old women of 60 to 80 years, including blind women in the area.

The women, who came in three buses, told members of Umuada Igbo Nigeria that out of the 13 rape victims, one had died because of bleeding induced by tears she sustained when some sex-hungry boys raped her.

During the protest, which lasted for more than five hours, the women appealed to UIN to intervene to save them from further harassment as they no longer sleep at night.

They said they had reported the cases, which started since April, to the police for action, but regretted that the situation had not changed.

Speaking to journalists, the Founder and President-General of UIN, Dr. Uzoamaka Ezeofor, who addressed the aggrieved women, expressed disappointment with the attitude of the young boys.

She wondered what form of sexual satisfaction they wished to derive from old women between the ages of 60 and 80 years.

Ezeofor said, “On the part of the Umuada Igbo Nigeria, we are going to Opi on Saturday. All the representatives of seven Igbo speaking states of Abia, Anambra, Rivers, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo will be there.

“The act perpetrated is an abomination in Igboland, Nigeria and the whole world and all members of Umuada Igbo Nigeria see it as such.

“We are going there to pray and beg God to forgive the perpetrators because such an abominable act can attract the wrath of God, which is capable of wiping out the communities in which the unholy acts was committed.”

Thanks for your reply to these guys. Many supposedly educated southerners still remain illiterate in thinking and very much biased and dangerously predujiced.

Crime is crime regardles race, country, ethnicity, sex and education. No crime is a lesser crime because of the perpetrator. Whether an Igbo man or Yoruba or Hause, whoever comits a crime is a criminal.
PoliticsRe: I am not a Lion, A General, Goliath, Pharaoh Or A King - GEJ by Kinikini: 4:23pm On Sep 26, 2011
GEJ should look at how his popularity has plummetted over the last three months. He is not helping himself cos everytime he talks, he simply gets it wrong. US will praise GEJ as long as the oil is pumped to US moreso it does not hurt US interest ''OIL''.
This govt has to make a radical departure from the direction it is headed terms of fighting corruption, cost of governance, instil judicial reforms, ensure security, massive infrastructure financing not by borrowing but prudent management of resources and plugging loopholes.
AgricultureRe: Agriculture To Receive $550 Million Financing From World Bank by Kinikini: 2:07pm On Sep 26, 2011
May be the intent is genuinely good. But then, if it does not work out , it will become another burden. Mrs Okonjo-Iweala should re-think this borrowing with corruption having a feast on our polity, it is like borrowing for looters. The fund will again find its way back to the western banks somehow.

Can Nigeria critically look at cutting cost of running govt to free funds for development instead of borrowing.  Tell GEJ to conduct a referendum instead.Reduce the number of senatorS to one per state, national assembly to one member per state, reduce minister to 15 by untying ministerial appointment to states and tie to performance, reduce civil service by half( what do they do to justify the chunk of the national income anyway) and plug looting loopholes that are numerous and see if Nigeria indeed need to borrow.

But the govt does not have the heart for these far reaching measures because the interest of the AGIPs must be protected.

Let's see.
PoliticsRe: I am not a Lion, A General, Goliath, Pharaoh Or A King - GEJ by Kinikini: 11:33am On Sep 26, 2011
It is not just GEJ that is frustrated. All Nigerians who know what can be done to turn things around that are not listened to are equally more frustrated. You can call posters haters but really if Nigerians believe the President is making genuine effort to advance the country , they will be less critical of him. The President claims GOD made him President but people demand performance. Does God make you President to increase infant mortality rate, worsen corruption and other terrible things happening now. I suppose those who truely helps humanity are the friends of GOD.
The President is truely confused and expect that being in office by whosoever's grace, things should just work out with luck. It takes more than luch to run a country and the President better wakes up. Even if the President blames his enemies for Boko Haram, who does he blame for the overbloated political cabinets and monstrous high cost of governance? How does a country grow with a recurrent expenditure of 75% or even 69% promised at the end of 4yrs .  Who does he blame for letting the Alao Akala's, Daniels, and other looters work away free. Who will he blame for not coming up with true job creation policies. Who does he blame for identifying more with the aspirations of the AGIPS that have always owed Nigeria rather than the masses that voted?

The President truely came from an establishment where performance is never measured and as such does not understand the cry for it by the citizens. If you like, continue to defend GEJ on sentiments. GEJ is no fool, he is only deflecting his incompetency using religion and ethnic sentiments; knowing the gullible ones are quick to swallow it hook line and sinker.

But history will judge GEJ by his performance. GEJ is another one that history handed greatness on a platter of GOLD who does not know how to engrave his print with GOLD on the sand of time.

Just my take.
CrimeNgozi Killed Her Husband. Another Domestic Violence Casualty by Kinikini(op): 2:00pm On Sep 21, 2011
After days of weak and clumsy denials, Mrs. Ngozi Ademoye, wife of the deceased Chairman of Charvex Communications Limited, Mr Kazeem Ademoye, Tuesday confessed that she killed her husband albeit mistakenly.

The deceased was allegedly killed at his residence at No 11 Nwahiri Onuoha Close, off Aigbokhan Street, Magodo-Lagos, last Friday.

Prior to the confession, the wife had claimed her husband slumped and died but when she was quizzed further, she changed her story.

When the family saw two big cuts on the deceased’s head, she changed her story and said the man was involved in occultism and that he died during a session with the occult world.

To buttress her story line, she had said her murdered husband had tied tortoise around his chest and was reciting some incantations. Some red regalia, charms and weird objects were seen on the scene of the murder, all to establish the allegation of occultism against the husband.

However, that story yet again changed yesterday as she confessed to the family, neighbours and the police that she it was that killed Kazeem, except that it was an honest mistake.

After the confession, the suspect was then transferred from the Isheri Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.

According to her, at about 4am of Friday last week, she was engaged in a scuffle with her husband.
She said: “I do not know what happened that day that made me stand up to him. Normally when he is angry, I usually apologise and end the matter.

“But that fateful day, he was beating me up and then injured me. When I saw the blood, I got angry and decided to wound him too.”

In the course of the fighting, she said her husband fell on the floor and she hit him twice with a UPS that was in the room; on the head and at the back of the neck.

“When he fell down, I hit him with the UPS on the head and neck. When he started bleeding, I was the one cleaning him up until he became unconscious," she said.

She went on to say that the deceased did not die immediately rather, he bled to death in the room.

Crying intermittently, she pleaded for forgiveness for her act, insisting that it was not premeditated.

The scuffle was said to have been caused by her insistence on administering “Holy water” substance given to her by a certain prophetess in order to ward off the evil spirit in and around their residence. Kazeem was said to have resisted the attempt, leading to the scuffle.

However speaking to THISDAY, the deceased's younger brother, Mr. Jameel Ademoye, queried Ngozi’s claims on how Kazeem met his untimely death.

“If she said that it was a mistake, why did she not raise an alarm so that he would be taken to the hospital? Why did she lock him up in the room till the next day?

“Why did she also go to Kazeem's office and cleared the money they made for the day? Why did she also tell them to resign that Kazeem had relocated to Ghana?

“Why did she have to go to Ikorodu to get an ambulance and why did she try to arrange for a private burial ground?” he asked, stressing that "If she can answer these questions judiciously, then we can take it from there but what I want is justice.”

In the course of investigation, the police also arrested two other suspects whose names cropped up.

THISDAY gathered that the duo were the prophet and prophetess who gave her the prophecy that her husband was involved in occultism and provided the holy water.

The newspaper further gathered from the widow's story that the holy water given to her by the prophetess was the actual cause of the scuffle.

According to her, she had gone to her prophet for prayers and she was prophesied to by the prophetess that the deceased was an occult member.

The prophet gave her the holy water with the instruction to go home and sprinkle it and await the result.

According to a family member who spoke on condition of anonymity, the husband was said to have chased her around the house and then when he fell, she hit him to death.

Although the prophetess agreed that she prophesied to the widow, she claimed that she urged Ngozi to take things gently with her husband by ensuring it never led to a fight.

However, the other prophet clad in his white robes and long dread locks, also admitted that he gave Ngozi the holy water to exorcise the evil spirits in the house.

The deceased’s sister couldn't hold back her grief as she demanded that justice be done.

She wondered why the suspect would kill her husband, who prior to his death, loved her to bits.
She informed THISDAY that the love the deceased had for his wife transcended belief as he went out of his way to show it.

Speaking in pidgin English, she described the brother as one who took very good care of the family.

According to her, “She killed my brother and now she is begging for forgiveness. What about my brother?”
Also speaking, the spokesman for the family, Mr. Adesegun Agbaye, said the matter had gone beyond the family, pointing out that it was now in the hands of government.

He also asked why the suspect did not alert anyone when the deceased was bleeding and why the family doctor was not called in.

When contacted, the Babajaiye of Lagos, Chief Paul Da Costa, said he led a select group of elders of the estate to the station to hear her confession.
He said: “When we appealed to her conscience, she started to confess and told us the actual story behind it.”

A lifeline urgently needed by EU to revive its moribound economy.  EU can only remain economically bouyant and relevant in the face of a rampagin Asia if it can sell its moribound and expensive technology to brainless countries like Nigeria which does not know how to manage its own affairs to achieve desired growth but depends on the west and its imperialist organs like IMF/World Bank, UN etc.

More money will be wasted and no lasting good will come from this. Another pipe dream.  EU will have what it desire but not Nigeria. This government needs to think deeply to come with durable and enduring solutions to our economic problems; not paliatives / cosmetic efforts.

What have u said?

Somebody wants to spend money on you and you tell him its because he wants to revive his economy? I think it should be the other way round?

Calm down dear - you want development - yet, you dont want to see anything initiated. LOL

What do you want to see?

The west gives you aid / invest in your economy but really it goes back to improving their economy. West invest fund in a project in a developing world with a counterpart funding pledge by the host. Often the host is borrowed the counter funding by the west and it is a debt. The project is costed by the west and awarded to a company choosen by the donor west. The expatriates are paid high salaries and tax paid to EU country. Equipments and other project materials are procured from the west and this further generate work in EU/ West and boosting economy in the West. Meanwhile, the cost of the project is four times more than an Asian country will do and the host interest on debt further goes to boost EU profit.  You help to create more employment for the WEST and improve their financial balance despite the project is located in your country.
The G7 met and decided to give more aid to developing nations. How is that related to how to improve their economy? It is because if developing countries do not have funds to buy their products, then their economy is stagnant. I borrow you money to buy from me, I improve my economy and you are still indebted to me.
