Politics › Re: The Brain Box Of Nigeria: Anambra Or Ekiti? by KnowAll(m): 10:40am On Oct 23, 2010
you can not even become a freeking president in your own freeking country and you have the nerve to run mouth about your brain and useless money.
The argument that an Igbo cannot be the President of Nigeria is an invalid and fallacious argument,  and I equate it to a hit below the belt by some Yoruba enthusiast,  that line of argument is un-neccessary, if the Igbo's give us true patriot in the mould of Soyinka or Ribadu every Nigerian from all the nook and corner of Nigeria would come out and support such a person. After all we all supported JJ Okocha when he was mesimerizing us with his skills in the football pitch.

But please Igbo brother's just don't mention Orji Kalu as a prospective Presidential candidate, the only job good for that scalliwag is to mow the lawns of Aso Rockt, our political sophistication in the west must not be taken for granted by some unscrupulous persons trying to peddle Orji's candidacy our sensibilities and tolerance has a limit.  undecided

The re-instating of Fayemi is the best news to come out of Nigeria in 2010. The year has generally been a gloomy year, but for some reason last friday when the news broke, I went out to celebrate  as if I know the man. But then one should recognise a milestone when it happens and this verdit is the best thing to come out of Nigeria, I stand to repeat it for the tenth time, this is a titanic shift in the equation of the SW.

The good thing about the verdit is, it has put a halt to the IBB campaign machinery abrutly. This verdict is a wake-up call to the PDP hagglers, haggling over who would be the flag bearer of the party whilst ignoring the strenght of the opposition, there is a realisation within the PDP that if care is not taking the squabbles within the party would blow all asundry away with no prisoners, no wonder the North Central fell in line and throw there weight behind Jonathan.

The 3 SW votes of Ogun, Oyo, and Osun can no more be guranteed, new and trusted allainace needed to be formed. I am a happy bonny for fayemi.  grin grin

I would expect anyone one with a bit of grey matter to take this accolade with a grain of salt. If Mr President were to visit any of the other 35 states he would have a few good things to say to them. For any Anambra to take this little banter as a fact, when it is well known Mr President is in dire need of the Igbo caucus votes, would not only be foolhardy, but a non brainer, the statement should be taking for what it is worth, " a goodwill message from an August visitor, but over the top.

I don't suppose anyone one of you would treat your August guest with disdain moreso if such guest is the number citizen of your country

If Aregbosola of Oshun State and Oyo state falls to ACN, then Tinnubu would just be ripe to be the next "Are ONA Kankanfo" of Yorubaland a title of no small reverence. Ogun would be the last bastion of opposition in Yorubaland. I think the ACN can make significant forays into Kwara and Kogi State with good planning and strategy

I would suggest p-square should first and foremost marry 27 wives, then share every kobo they are making with their drummers, dancers, guitarist and other helpers like driver, cleaners and other enablers. After sharing their fortune in that manner, let us see how long they would last as the benefactor, it is on record fela, lived like that and was the benefactor of such a commune from 1977 AFTER they destroyed Kalakuta Republic to the end of his life in 1998 in the shrine with not a penny richer or poorer.

I think the poster just wanted to post a sensationalist thread, which he unclerverly did.  undecided

The FG has not done jerk in the past 12 years, absolutely NO jerk, that is why they are seeking to borrow common $4.5 billion, IBB could have borrowed them that if they are that desperate. A country that is doing well would have enough dollars in reserve. China has in excess of $300 billion in reserve and still counting. They are a country borrowing everyone money.

I once asked a friend,  if the UK is in debt, America is in debt, who is borrowing everyone these money they are owing, it can't be God, and he said China is the one borrowing everyone, that is what I call progress.  huh
Crime › Lagos Too Hot For Armed Robbers- Robbers Move To Benin Republic by KnowAll(op): 8:39am On Oct 13, 2010
Andrew Aihomogbe
If I had listened to my wife, I would not have found myself in this difficult situation. My wife told me that she had a dream in which she claimed to have seen me being paraded in handcuffs by the police. She informed me that the case was so serious that I was killed at the end of the day. She warned me to be careful.”

That was the confession of Andrew Aihomogbe, who was a few days ago paraded by the police in Lagos State for allegedly robbing a bureau de change market in the Republic of Benin and killing some people in the process.

Andrew and his gang had successfully carried out the operation and had sporadically shot into different directions to scare away the crowd in Benin Republic and found their way into Nigeria. But men of the Lagos State Police Command Anti Robbery Squad swooped on the gang at the Lagos end of Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The other arrested suspects were Kingsley Okafor, Njoku Emmanuel, Martins Agbor, Chidibemu Uzigbe, Obinna Amechi Agbor, Chidibemu Uzigbe, Obinna Amechi and Edgar Peter.

The suspects had, on the 30 September, 2010, invaded the market in Krake Village in the Republic of Benin and allegedly killed some of the operators at the market.

The commissioner of police in charge of the Lagos State police command, Marvel Akpoyibo, while speaking with Crime and Security, on the arrest of the trans-border armed robbers, stated that “the arrest was as a result of a massive and well coordinated operation.”

He further explained that the police in the state, on being informed of the armed robbery incident in Benin Republic, cordoned off the entire perimeter of the forest, believed to be harbouring the suspected armed robbers .

He added that “a total of 4 A K 47guns, 99 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition and a sum of N504,430 00 and another sum of one million six hundred and seventy three thousand francs (1 673,000 CFA, were recovered from the gang.

Andrew, who claimed to be a commercial bus driver in Lagos, said that he was induced into the crime by a citizen of the Niger Republic, who he identified as Suleiman Moshood. He stated that Moshood had informed him of the deal and directed him to recruit other members of the gang, which he admitted doing.

“ I was driving on a day when Moshood stopped me and informed me of the vulnerabiltiy of the bureau de change market in Benin Republic. He told me that unlike in Nigeria where operators hide their money, operators at Krake Market openly display cash tables.”

Andrew also confessed to Crime and Security that he had in the past, taken part in several armed robbery operations, in many parts of Nigeria. He, however, claimed to have stopped his engagement in robbery, when he bought a commercial bus, from the over N1,000,000 he received, after a robbery operation in Kogi State.

“We were formerly operating in Lagos and other neighbouring states, but at a point, we discoverd that it would be suicidal for us to operate in Lagos again because of the security measures put in place. It was at that point that a friend informed me about a market in the Republic of Benin. I recruited my boys and we stormed the market.”

The Comptroller in charge of the Benin Police, Celestine Guidime, while speaking during the official handing over of the arrested suspects to him by the Lagos state police boss, stated that capital punishment awaited the armed robbers, if they were convicted of killing some of the traders at the market.

Guidme stated that the law of Benin Republic stipulated death penalty for armed robbers who killed during robbery operations and that preliminary investigations by the Benin Police on the operation revealed that some people were killed during the infamous robbery operation.

The Benin Police boss also added that further investigations, which would not last for more than one month, would be conducted, so as to ascertain the roles of the arrested robbers as well as to capture their Benin Republic collaborators.

Andrew lamented to Crime and Security that he regretted not listening to his wife, who apparently saw a vision of his arrest and duly warned him. ”My wife did not know that I am into armed robbery and when she had the dream, she warned me about the kind of bus conductors that I employed to work with me, “the suspect bemoaned his fate.

A female accomplice identified as Nkiru Igboatu, who had attempted to rescue a stranded member of the gang , whowas identified as her boyfriend, was also arrested by the policemen.

The police boss also stated that follow up investigations conducted by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad of the state police command led to the arrest of another member of the gang, identified as Arinze Oyiloha.

Arinze has since reportedly confessed to being a member of the gang while he also admitted participating in several armed robbery operations by the gang in several parts of Nigeria.

Lagos Plans N60 Billion Alternative Road To Ikorodu

The Lagos State government is proposing a N60 billion alternative route to link Ishawo to Ikorodu in order to decongest the daily traffic gridlock in the area.

The proposed road is under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) programme of the state government and is expected to be built by foreign investors.

Mr. Ayo Gbeleyi, Director-General, Lagos State PPP Office, said the project is expected to increase the real estate potential along the Ikorodu axis and reduce considerably the number of man-hours spent on the road.

According to him, the road would be built in four phases and the indicative cost of the project is N60 billion.

“The road will be tolled and include a bridge. Preliminary feasibility studies, design and detail drawings have been submitted,” he added.

In the area of housing, Gbeleyi said the state wanted investors to partner with it, as government has provided opportunities for affordable housing as well as enabling housing supply.

“Government has initiated programmes to promote housing demands by providing land subsidy to private developers and providing home buyers initiative,” he said.

He also spoke on the proposed Alausa Greenfield Captive Power Generation Project which is expected to generate 7.5 megawatts of electricity to illuminate the Lagos State government’s seat of power.

The project is scalable to 12.5 megawatts. A 10-15 year Power Purchase Agreement is to be signed between the state and concessionaire.
Is this the 4th mainland bridge or something different.?

What we need in Odua is to start a Super Conglomerate Company, the Government has failed us, both State and FG,  we have the largest enlightened people in the country and beyond the shores of this nation. The Company would be owned by all Yorubas at home and abroad, all that is required by individuals is donate a token for the realisation of this gem of an idea. A national convention for the company would be held annually, with pomp and pageantry to the awe of other nations and tribes, this should be our focus, for the foreseeable future.

At the moment the SW is relatively peaceful, the 7.4% growth experience by the Nigerian nation,  I can guarantee you 5% of that growth emanates from the peaceful co-existence of the citizens of this zone of the nation. Economics like everything else thrives where there is peace.( we only need to look at Iraq and Afghanistan to no this is true.)

The SE is overwhelmed with kidnappers and armed robbers, the SS has been over-run by militant, who even dare and embarrass our poor President by bombing an area hundreds of miles from their traditional domain.

The North-west is ruled like a fiefdom by some mad mullahs who deliberately suppress their citizen by choosing a strange Islamic penal code(even Saudi Arabia they claim to follow has modern buildings, roads, hotels, and airports) Jeddah and Ryyad are one the most modern cities in the world.

The North central is enmeshed in religious riot, I would not rule out a pogrom similar to those of Rwanda happening there. Even some of those mad mullahs in the NW has promised us the Rawanda genocide would look like child’s play when it commences.

The North East IS Boko-Haram  territory, they have even change tact now, rather than confront the authorities head-on, they have chosen the Muhammad approach, John Allen Muhammad was the gentleman killing people randomly with a high powered rifle in the Washington DC area, thank God he has been caught.

But God help us in Nigeria, our security personnel  are a joke, the Boko-horam would have a field day, they would easily get away with murder in this dis-jointed nation of ours, I only feel for the unfortunate souls whose name has been pencilled down for summarily execution in that region, I hope they have written there wills and say their good-byes to their loved ones.

The SW is the Mecca of Nigeria, it is time all Yoruba Sons and Daughters all over the world put their money where there mouth is,   by creating a Super Company which would build our roads,  railways, ports and other infrastructures which would traverse every nook and cranny of Yorubaland, this is what our people desire.

BecomeRich’s idea is good but I think this idea of mine is achievable, as we would not the undermining the authority of the FG but rather supplementing it.

But how come the BBC have not done a documentary on the scientific challenges of Eko Atlantic City, a feat almost similar with one venturing into the moon.

Battling a raging ocean and building a City on it, is no small feat, it should be of significant importance to anyone who loves watching innovative ideas and pushing the boundaries which most British people do love.

I actually think the BBC is short-changing the British audience with half-baked stories of what is happening in Lagos. Someone who has never been to Nigeria and Lagos in particular who watch these programme would think it is one chaotic City from top to the bottom without any pluses.

Before our very eyes a “tommorow’s world” kind of imaginative island is emerging from the sea but because it does not fit the stereotype kind of stories associated with so called backwaters of West-Africa, the BBC feels this story is not worthy of been told, yet the down and trodden who are hidden from public view are deliberately sought out in the most dangerous Ghetto in Lagos.

Louis Theroux is even lucky those Guys in Isale Eko who never knew of his presence and what he stood for would have mobbed him, I am sure Louis’s Nigerian minder would have greased their palms.

The irony is when Dubai was building her own artificial islands similar to Eko Atlantic City in Dubai it was everywhere in London, in the Travel Brochures, Newspapers, TV Travel programme, the internet you name it.

How will this shock bbc? Please enlighten me.

Nah wah o.

Instead of boasting about what is yet to happen, abeg focus on now. Gosh, typical naijan mentality.
I know London means everything to u, but let me burst your bubble a little bit, Sinagpore was poorer than Lagos in 1965 not to talk of London which was a million miles ahead then, but today Singapore’s under-ground system, road networks are something to behold, the neatness and cleanliness of that city surpasses London 10 folds.

That is why I like Fashola, our politicians should stop using London as a yardstick, we should be thinking big, Eko Atalantic City is 7 miles long and 1.5 miles wide, that is about 7 times the size of the most modern part of London which is Docklands.

If we can make this project a reality, it would have a whoa factor not only in Africa but in the rest of the world especially Britain who see Africa as a dumping ground, a  backward and a  retrogressive society.

Can you imagine in this day and age Nigeria is buying 1960’s and 1970’s locomotives in other to revamp her dead railway system, when we should be thinking bullet train of Japan OR TGV of France.

We need development minded people at the centre, the FG Government has had some really bad administrators in the last 20 years, I hope 2011 would usher in a new direction for the country and the thinking of the leaders we have from then onwards.

Nigerians are illetrates, 98% of correspondence keep on harping on stealing. How could it be theft, when there are traces of how the money was spent OR apportioned, thus funds were given to individuals and companies albeit and with the benefit of hindsight,  Ibru has links to these entitites, the proper demeanour OR name for this kind of crime  is mis-appropiation, combined with gross misadventure using share-holders equity,  bordering on bad advise. Having said that,  if the deal had brought-in enough profit, the same share-holders would not complain if their diviends where larger than previous years.

There was also a bit of nepotism, double standard, conflict of interest and falling foul of Bankig rules and guidelines. Her detrator in no other person than Sanusi is a beneficiary of the same broken system, the only reason why he was able to nail Ibru and Akingbola and the Chief Executives was  becos he has what is called " inside knowledge" of the unruly and unethical banking culture that is prevalent in the Banking industry.

We must not lose sight of the fact that it takes " a thief to catch a thief". Sanusi has not done anything extra-ordinary he has only broken the secrecy in the Banking fraternity, in Yoruba language they say " o dale " which means he has broke an oath of secrecy which is prevalent in that industry.

Sanusi is just a shameless whistle blower who cannot cut it in the rough and tumble of Banking, he tried to compete,  but those guys where just not in the same league as him, what did he do,  when he became CBN Governor,  he chose  the simplest way out,  spilling the beans in the industry that to me is not bravery but cowardly.

Nigerians should see the cataclysm in the Banking Industry has a fallout of greedy and selfish men fighting over the overwhealming wealth and power some insiders within the industry have made to the detriment of sulkers like Sanusi who out of envy and jealousy result to bullying.  They say when two elephants fight, it is the grass that would suffer. We are all suffering from the ego tripping fight by these shameless Bankers.

No man of honour would go down this road of shameless perdition for a few fistful of dollars, but that is the road Sanusi chose and some of us want to follow suit. To say the Banking industry would remain in the doldrums for decades would be under-statement. That Industry is dead and buried only an act oof God would revive what today is tantamount to safe keeping houses without a focus nor a value to stir any interest from foreign investors.

I thought Sanusi came to London to hawk his damage goods not suprise there were no takers, I wish him the best of luck next time.  undecided

Are we seriously saying in a country of 150 million people there can be no geniue billionaire in Nigeria. When we know like an American friend once told me, produce an item in your country for N150. 00, if a quarter of your population buys it u are worth $37.5 million dollars. Are we seriously saying astutue business men & women who grew a bank from noting OR zero to something & Hero cannot have a billion dollar stake in dat investment. We are talking Banking where the only business done is making money.

What this case border's on are banking ethics rather than outright theft, in a country like Nigeria where jealousy is rife, those in power like Sanusi cannot fathom OR comprehend how some Southern Bankers are doing it, growing their Banks exponentially these Gentlemen/ and women if  care was not taken would soon be richer than d country as it were, dat has to be stopped either overtly OR covertly using an  over-bearing atitude unheard off In the history of central banking. In other climes a re-capitalisation exerciser would ensue enabling d bank to recover funds that have been badly invested and mis-managed but in Nigeria  the CBN had to use the proverbial big stick.

Barclays Bank did a right issue to shore up her finanaces having fallen  prey of the sub-prime debacle, today those who invested in dat right offer are 9 X better off. Oceanic & Intercontinental Bank has made money from round-tripping where they buy fx from the CBN only to sell in the Black-Market dat is how those Bank kept afloat and grew between the late eighties and early nineties.

Some would say why did she own up and admit to the charges, well this nightmare started in August 2009, no matter what u are made off u would want some sort of closure and respite otherwise it would take it's toll on u both mentally and physically.

Look at poor me here in London, if I want to go Naija tommorrow,  all I would do is buy my ticket & jump on a plane no wahala. The same cannot be said of Akingbola & Ibru at some point these individuals will want a closure to these horrible nightmare if it means forfiture and admitting spurious allegations.

Now lets get to the lesson, because of evidence of insanity having taken place before DOES NOT, I repeat, DOES NOT stand as basis for justification for continued insanity.

You can not come here and justify a president cancelling a free and fair election with excuse that IBB did the same in 1992.

In a SANE country, with SANE banking systems, with SANE people in power, activities like that would not happen in a private bank. Please do not come here saying Saraki got away with it under the insanity on Abasha and think it is or should be the norm.

Furthermore, don't come here to say:
I said earlier I don't want to indulge you in that fantasy of yours, argueing and hanranguing over hypothetical scenerios has never been my thing, Ibru's case has no semblance to what obtains in a private bank and really there is no point going there. What I am trying to tell you is that there are rules and regulations that applies to ALL banks that take public peoples money as deposit irrespective of the bank being public OR PRIVATE.

Under those rules and regulations, Ibru would have broken them even if the bank was private.

Nah!

You are mistaken.

All private banks that TAKE PUBLIC depositor funds face the rules and regulations of the sovereign regulator.

These rules and regulations are in place to protect the depositors from loss.

If you don't know that, that is obviously not your territory.
That is why the public got there money back in Saraki's Bank, they take care of their high net individuals(reason why Okocha got his money back) but the rest of you can go to blazes. In the Western countries they keep money for high net individuals, it is a Gentleman's club.

No, the point is not whether it is now listed or not.

The point is your allusion that it is not (or less of) a crime if the same was done in a privately held bank.

The philosophy is what my question is about.

So it is OK (or more acceptable) for private banks' management to spend depositors' money as they wish?
The operation of private Banks is shreded in secrecy, the word private in its conotations means what it says, to start with nobody know u are a depositor except the bank, so the idea of  u screaming blue-murder when u lose your deposit would not be entertained. You cannot lose what u don't have in the first place.  huh look oh boy, this is  uncharted territory to people like u and I don't want to bore u with things u don't know. So it is OK (or more acceptable) for private banks' management to spend depositors' money as they wish?
I have already put paid to that argument, the Bank is no more a private Bank since it has been listed in the NSE. I would not answer an hypothetical question since it is has no relevance to what we are discussing in this thread.

So the Anti-Sanusi guys are a bit  silent here
The fact is,  this is one conviction in a motley crew of uncountable undesirables. Soludo's head should also be on the block too, the auditors who passed those accounts as healthy should be sentenced too. If the other fraudsters cannot be apprehended then justice as we see it today has not being served adequately, we might as well release Madame Ibru,  after all her Bank started as a private concern and the other co-collaborators in this fraud of the century are no where to be found. The dividends and the largesse of this grand larceny are still enjoyed by certain individuals in our society today,  we should not pretend or turn a blind eye to this obvious fact.

I know Oceanic Bank now,  is a stock market listed company today,  and a private concern argument cannot be sustanable, but let us cast our minds to the goings in NSE, another umpire in these rather strange tale of Gluttonic disemboweling, that organisation has also been overwhealmed with fraud and corruption, why hold one of the actors in this unsavoury melee of financial misappropiation and leave the others to enjoy their loot.

Selective justice has always been the bane of our society, and I don't see us correcting this skewd judicial system now OR in the nearest future.  huh

I disagree with this opinion cos she still kept some properties running into billions of naira still. Some poor folks have gone to 8 years jail for less than one million naira and we are talking of billions here. FYI, do you know you can start six universal banks with (#25 billion each) in Nigeria with the amount siezed from this convict and to add salt to injury, she's an 'elder' in the church. She deserve to rot in jail
She is entitled to keep some houses which include her main residence in Lagos no matter d price plus one in her home town, probably one in Abuja and one abroad. As a chief executive of a bank she would be entitted to favaroble interest rates which d general public does not have accesss to, secondly she would be entitled to huge bonuses for expanding d bank over d years.

The seizure of all these propertise and shares is more painful than some useless long jail term where does this woman want to start from. But let us call a spade a spade no human being should own this much in a country where there is so much poverty. This is classical greed in all it's ramifications

@homerac7

I know dede, he would not come to the defence of the COAS , if it was Dambazzau there now u would not see a comment like this from dede, but been an Igbo COAS he was quick like a fox to jump in defence of d Nigerian Chief of Army staff. I thought dede is not interested in anything Nigeria, for crying out loud we are not talking the chief of army staff for Biafra.

When did DeDe become a concerned and a patriotic Nigerian, left for people like Dede, if every post in d federal cabinet are not manned by Igbo's Nigeria would remain a cesspit his favourite word.
