It is high time Abubakar Saraki allies himself with the Middle Belters and the Yorubas, the alignment with the far North was Olusola Saraki's thing, but today any wise and educated Kwaran should see themselves as a middle belter and a northern Yoruba after all the old Oyo Empire extended to as far as Abuja. If some Republic of Benin indigenes are proud of their Yoruba heritage why are Kwarans behaving like " omo Ale" - bastards huh

True dat, a state gurantees you a base, Ribadu at the moment has not got a base, does he think holding on to Tinubu's hard fought base would work.,

Politics › A Popular President Should Be Able To Walk The Streets. by KnowAll(op): 1:06pm On Nov 09, 2010
With what happened to OBJ, when a lunatic or maybe a disgruntled Nigerian jump into his car to vent his anger at him should be expected from any ballot snatching head of state and politician. If you are a popular president this kind of misadventure by a member of the public would be remote from you.

Jonathan Goodluck it is clear he has so many Enemies, why contest for the Presidency with such a baggage, A President whose arse is not even safe in Bayelsa why put your name forward or where you sleep-walking when you picked up the nomination form.  huh undecided

Did a device not go off during his visit to Bayelsa State,  shocked a State that should have been his safest heaven in the land or better still the “safest heaven in the contraption called Nigeria” let me borrow a more plausible phrase made popular by my Igbo brethrens, if such can happen where he comes from,  Mr President I am seriously  struggling to know where you are popular and revered or am I missing something here.   huh

I can remember when the great “Awo” came on a rabid campaign trail in Ibadan in 1983, he flew into town in  an helicopter, kids, adults, market women ran following the flight path of the Helicopter all the way from Ibadan Toll Gate to liberty stadium, a distance of a good 10 km,  that is a popular candidate, why should the high roads and major avenues in our cities be closed because Mr President is coming to town.  undecided

Let the popular candidates run, I am happy with the likes of Fashola, Oshiemole, Mimiko, these guys can work the street of their cities and towns without any fear or favour, they no their mandate is genuine and there is no reason why any politician that is popular should run from his / her own shadow except of course that shadow did not vote for you,  in any case  such a candidate, Governor, Senator or President is occupying an illegal and alien sit and should do the honourable thing,  bite the bullet and resign b4 he gets ejected by the people by force. (illegal Gov Oni can give us a feeler and a proper insight of how it feels to be at the recieving end of justice and the people).

I am fed up of these IIP- Impostors In Power, a word they say is enough for the wise, I hope Messer’s Jonathan is taking this message on board and other IIP’s. Jonathan’s case can be forgiven, that is because we all know by the virtue of his position, when his Boss died he had the statutory right to ascend to the post of the Presidency but thinking of running next year is pushing ones luck too far, a man who cannot take the heat in Bayelsa is now prepared to take the heat from 35 other hostile commuinities, na wa oh Mr President.  undecided

You can't get away with making such unguarded statements. He actually was so idealistic as not to have any true conception of what he was doing.

What corruption are we talking about anyway at that time?
LOL  grin grin , Fela sang a song " for England oh Army no fit take over" but our friend cap28 believe that it is within the remit of screwed head Nzeogwu to unleash the bullets in his gun to all asundry most especially the civilians in other to effect some change. I think Nzeogwu got carreid away by the revolution in Cuba and the Che Guvera thing
Politics › Re: Fela Supported Biafra by KnowAll(m): 2:27am On Nov 07, 2010
Did Nzeogwu really know what he was doing? No
Did he have real understanding of the Nigerian polity? No.
Was he even aware of the deep rooted tribalism of his accomplices? No

At the end of the day he was just another reactionary military officer without the self- knowledge and vision that it would take decades of education, Godliness and enlightenment to turn Nigeria towards the path of development.

However the selected killings did trigger a wave of revulsion and anger that only abated with the the flight of Ojukwu to Abidjan in 1970
Fortunately for me and unfrotunately for Nzeogwu, I can benefit from hindsight and have a bird's view eye of the events of the 1960's, which you also can benefit from except if you choose otherwise.

The childish bravado of Nzeogwu and the stubborness of not losing face to a perceived inferior officer in the person of Gowon made Ojukwu to go the long haul to wage a war which was not only suciadal but futile and avoidable. This singular event open the ugly sore's insurgency and counter- insurgency in the Miliatary, I would like to believe this cancer has finally been exorcized

Yes Abacha, IBB and the other northern theifs turned nigeria into their personal fiefdom but please explain why you are roping in Ojuwkwu and Nzeogwu.
That once united and reverred institution the "miliatry" which was  seen as the last bastion of unity in Nigeria was destroyed by the over-zealousness of Nzeogwu in Jan 1966, but Ojukwu by declaring a republic within Nigeria made any other crime commited present and past pale into insignificance. The worst kind of crime one can ever commit is to take on the state. The same reason why Gideon Orkar's coup failed removing some states from Nigeria.
Politics › Re: Fela Supported Biafra by KnowAll(m): 1:09am On Nov 07, 2010
For you to now try and rope Ojukwu into this whole debate shows you up for the complete i.diot that you are, is Ojukwu the architect of nigeria's downward spiral as we know it today?
That cannot be further from the truth, we need to look at the big picture. A country just don't just wake up and go downward spiral overnight. It starts from somewhere. Nzeogwu sowed the seed of discontent, Ojukwu made it a currency by allowing the un-necessary conflagration of a solvable problem, Abacha and IBB turned it into a relay race where they can keep on changing batons at random, whilst promising heaven and earth and delivering nothing.

Ojukwu gave miscreants like IBB and Abacha the balls to grasp power. The Seed of discontent was first planted by Nzeogwu, but Ojukwu made it a currency where every cattle rearer with a gun would aspire to be head of state.

I think " Fela" as a phenomenon is above the trivial tribal bickerings of some SEasterners especially Igbo's,   the whole concept of Biafra is totally out of sync with Fela's pan-africanist movement, for anyone to think Fela can be so belittled to support an agitataion and proclamation based on greed and stubborness is a slight on the phenoenon known as " Fela".

I think some of us don't know when to draw the line by dragging the name of one of African's most celeberated pan -Africanist into a none issue, the whole Biafran agitation and conception is marred in greed, envy and out-right insubordination by some officer's who should know better.

I hope the culprit who is still alive who is assumed to have blown the whilstle for the pillaging and theft to commence in the land is a lot happier man today,  obvioulsy seeing his handiwork play to the gallary, his unprecedented  mutiny has  caused the nation enough pains in the last 40 years.

But does the absconding commander have any remouse hell no !!!, what and how about him inviting the chief Pillager of the nation to his backwaters and not only conferring on him an exclusive Igbo name but his unsavoury proclaimations that every Igbo's far and wide should support his candidacy this more than anything is the sorry state of Igboland in 2010.

Dapo, we have never lost Kwara, How come Northerners are Saying Saraki does no understand HAUSA?
When the time come, we will take it back.
Olusola Saraki is the arse licker, he is the one who can speak Huasa, hence why Kwara is still holding on to the apron of the North. The Younger Saraki's Bukola and his Sister would have smelt the coffee like the Jonah Jang's and Suswan's of these world ,  for their own good more than anything they should allied themselves with the Middle-belt politically and with the SW ethnically. They should be proud of their Yorubaness and there no reason why we Yoruba's cannot present them as a true Yoruba Candidates provided they past the loyalty test.

The far North has clearly without mincing words dis-owned Bukola Saraki, by saying he is not even considered let alone selected,  he should just embrace his natural heritage and leave his senile father to continue to wallow in his Malian mirage

Let us not forget that Biafra was a multi-ethnic country. A named coined by an Ijaw man. Igbos, Ogoni, Ijaw, Ibibio, Ekoi all fought on behalf of Biafra. We all know Ojukwu's second in command was not an Igbo man. Two of my mother's brothers fought on behalf of Biafra and they are Ibibio. They saw intense fighting in the state that now known as Cross River.

All Biafra wants is the land East of the River Niger and the Anioma Igbo of the former midwest region.
Why are the Igbos seeking the Presidency in 2015 when one of their sons is at the helms of affair now, rather than manke use of this Eastern Messiah at hand, some Igbo's are living in a delusional quagmire. This gentleman has giving you the first Cheif of Army Staff in 44 year,  plan to upgrade Enugu Airport to international standard, proclaimed an edict to the contrators handling all Federal roads in the SE to complete the jobs at hand, if I were an Igbo, I shall deal and negotiate with Jonathan now,  than wait 20 , 25 or mayber 50 years time when we would probably have a true Igbo man as President.

Politics › Commuter Sues Lasg For Infringing His Right To Move Freely In Lekki Zone by KnowAll(op): 2:29pm On Nov 01, 2010
A Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere has ruled that it would visit the proposed toll-gate to be constructed at Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos before determining a suit challenging its construction. The court made the decision to determine if it infringes on the movement of a legal practitioner, Ebun-Olu Adegoruwa, who had instituted the suit against the state government and four others over construction of the proposed toll gate.

In the suit before the state high court, the claimant had stated that the toll-gate if constructed would violate his fundamental rights to freedom of movement as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution of 1999.
He is contending that Lagos State government along with Lekki Concession Company Limited, Lagos State Works and Management Board, Attorney-General of Lagos State and Eti-Osa Local Government Council are not entitled to charge or collect any toll, money, fee or tariff on any road built in Lagos.

The trial judge, Justice Candido-Johnson, made the ruling to visit the site after listening to counsels on both sides. Adedoruwa had urged the court to grant his application seeking a referral to the Appeal Court to determine whether he had the right to challenge the defendants over the toll-gate before returning to the High Court for continuation of proceedings. The defence had, however, urged the court to see the site of the proposed toll-gate before proceeding on the matter.

The claimant is asking the court to declare as illegal, the construction and collection of toll at the Lekki-Epe Expressway by the Lekki Concession Company and the state’s concession to the company as illegal and a hindrance to mobility of Lagosians.

He is also praying the court to order the removal and dismantling of those toll points on the expressway. Specifically, the lawyer is urging the court to make an injunction restraining the defendants and their agents from collecting money from him or any member of the public for using that road.

Politics › What Does The Word " Naija" Mean To You by KnowAll(op): 1:49pm On Oct 27, 2010
The word Naija aptly captures the variety of emotions I feel for my country, especially as it celebrates its 50th anniversary of independence.

We Nigerians are confident people - proud of our culture and identity, industrious, hard-working, ingenious and great survivors.

End Quote
BBC's Peter Okwoche
Let's face it, we need to be resilient - Nigeria can be extremely frustrating, annoying and inefficient.

But an optimistic outlook on life makes it a place where anything and everything is possible.

No wonder a survey once found that Nigerians are the happiest people in the world - we have a great capacity for laughing at ourselves.

Whether things are going well or whether it seems the world is about to come to an end, "Naija!" -also written 9ja - expresses it all.

It is about the food, the flamboyant dressing, the mannerisms, the boisterous - some say loud - interaction among complete strangers who on meeting immediately feel bonded by their "Naija-ness".

Like your family, you love them and you hate them at the same time.

You love them so much you would die for them, and yet you get so exasperated at the way they drive you up the wall.

And for the young, the word has entered their slang - spreading rapidly through social networking sites and through music.

'A hook and a jab'

My Nigerian colleague Peter Okwoche says this is because Naija denotes a new beginning or dawn for Nigeria.

Naija must be pronounced with attitude "The word was coined by the country's youth as a way of distancing themselves from the old guard who they blame for Nigeria's woes," he says.

"Nigeria has a bad image abroad but the youth want the world to know that change is happening from inside the country."

And Naija is a word we Nigerians guard jealously.

We are most particular about its pronunciation.

It must be punchy - both syllables should be emphasised but with a hook for the "Nai" and jab for the "ja".

Then you know you are in with the crowd. You are accepted. You are trusted.

Bilkisu Labaran and Peter Okwoche are presenting a two-hour BBC Focus on Africa special on Nigeria's 50th anniversary on Africa on Friday 1 October at 1600 GMT.

Here is a selection of your comments:

What Naija means to me is: Nai - the old Nigeria with a bad image because of corrupt ex-leaders and Ja - a slang for disappear. So when we say Naija, it means that we, the youth, are determined to cleanse the country and show the world the true colour of this great nation. Naija for real! Simon, Enugu, Nigeria

Naija means a lot to me - it is my home and it is where I will die. There is no place like home and that place is Naija. Even with the corrupt practices and the kidnappings, it is only we Nigerians who can solve our problems. I do not think there is any need for us to run somewhere else, instead it is better we sit down and and resolve this issue. After all, other countries have their problems to solve, so let's stay and solve ours. I love my country, my father's land and my home. Naija - what a place to be. Obireh Erhuvwu, Kaduna, Nigeria

Naija is a word that depicts the conditions and the aspirations of the average citizen. Everything is possible in Naija, even when things are tough, really tough.

Madubuike Ezekwe Thywill, Isuikwuato LGA , Abia state, Nigeria

The word Naija for me means the entire people of Nigeria wherever they are. And it's also uniting the Nigerians, making them proud of themselves as one nation. Bulama Musa, Lagos, Nigeria

The word Naija is a term used to describe the land which we all strive to create for the future generation. It is the true Nigeria that we hope to build. A Nigeria that's different from the past, which we all agree has not gone as well as we had hoped.

Ikechukwu Richard Ogbowu, Port Harcourt, Nigeria

Naija is a word coined by Nigeria's youth from the local English language spoken mainly in the southern part of the country. You put a lot of stress when pronouncing it to show your love for the country. I love the word Naija
.Abdulmuminu, Kano, Nigeria

The word Naija to me means something new and quite different from a past which we all agree has not been as perfect as we would have wanted. It represents the new Nigeria, the true Nigeria that we are all striving to build.Ikecukwu
Richard Ogbowu, Port Harcourt, Nigeria

Naija simply means "The New Nigeria" - one the average Naija youth is proud to be associated with. The name gives me a sense of belonging. I love Naija. Buchy, Nigeria

When I was young, the word was in common use by adults as an exclamation word. One would have used it to express surprise or amazement at the end of someone else's comment on the country's state of affairs. It probably didn't have a spelling then, and I even thought it was a Yoruba variant of "Nigeria" at that time too. I would estimate that the word is as old as Nigeria herself. The word has re-emerged among youths within the last decade with a new meaning, most times effusing patriotism. The recent popularity of the word may have come about because of its frequent use in a syndicated 30-minute show hosted by one Kwame where it was used for praising the good qualities of Nigeria and Nigerians.
Seyi Olakulehin, Lagos, Nigeria

Naija means people with different talents, people who are loving, people who believe in faith and do not worry what they'll eat the next day. People who see joy as their birth right, people with so many cultures and traditions, people full of life, people with strength and loyalty and people of character. That's the meaning of Naija.
Chituga, Rumuobiokani, Nigeria

Naija means a new beginning. It is the hope for the future. Nigeria may be dying but out of its ashes rises a generation determined to be truly different, truly great, truly NAIJA!
Dehl Umobio, Abuja, Nigeria

What does Niaja mean to you, to me it means

1. No to IBB, Buhari, Guseua,

2. Yes to the yonger generation - Jonathan, Saraki, Ribadu, Shekarau, Fashola, and Duke.

3.  it means we are all one, it amazes me,  Naijas in London when they are going home or about to go home they tell their friends " I dey go naija" not I am going to Lagos, Abuja, Enugu OR Portharcourt. The word Naija has made the multiplicity which is Nigeria to become a unified heaven in a way never been seen. That is a  good thing.

4. Naija is a good brand, it is the bling-bling of Nigeria, it means all the good things about Nigeria that makes the country tick, Nollywood, Naija tunes, Fashion,  Abuja, Dangote, and "Eko Atlantic City"  even though it is still an illusion, and a dyanmic leader.

What does Naija mean to you?  undecided

Politics › Re: Do You Know Nigeria Has An Ethnic Arab Tribe ? by KnowAll(op): 1:44pm On Oct 24, 2010
Are the Sudanese and Chadians Arabs?

I don't see any real difference between these Shuwas and the various Sudanese and Chadian groups. The thing is Sudanese and Chadians may dress like Arabs for obvious cultural reasons, but does that actually make them Arabs? The Sudanese were Nubians before modern times and the Chadians were also of a different culture and lifestyle, so they aren't inherently like the people whose culture they've adopted. That's why it seems like a matter of terminology to me. These "Shuwa Arabs" were something else before being Islamicized and before trade/interaction with North Africans, whatever that was. Arabs in Saudi Arabia, Omen, Yemen, U.A.E., etc. have always been Semites though, "Shuwa Arabs" are of a different stock/lineage, really,
The Shuwa Arabs are not indigenious chadian or sudanese group, in fact there are Shuwa Arabs population in SUDAN, CHAD, NIGER, and NE Nigeria. They are only 250,000 in Borno State out of a population of 3 million. Their mother tongue is Arabic albeit adultrated Arabic, they are like an Ekiti man being a Yoruba man. They come in different shades from jet black to fair skinned standard or normal Arabic look, the fact that some are dark does not make them less arabic like their cousins in the arabian peninsula, The common denomination between them and their cousins is the capabilty to communicate in the mother tongue.

They are a pastorist tribe, obviously with that kind of movement within the tribe, their nationalities can change from being a Nigerian to a chadian to a sudanese at random that can be dangerous as weapons and fire-arms can brought in by unscrouplous businessmen to subversive groups like Boko-Haram
