Politics › I Shall Make Ogun State Economy Bigger Than Ghana's Says Gov Aspirant by KnowAll(op): 10:56pm On Nov 23, 2010
A governorship aspirant in Ogun State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has said that the state’s economy would be among the top four in Nigeria by 2015.

He stated this at an interactive media chat in Abeokuta at the weekend where he also disclosed that his blueprint to turn around the economy of the state would soon be made public.

He also disclosed that the roadmap was predicated on a four developmental agenda which included: growing our economy; providing quality social services; strengthening our people and society; and energising government and polity.

Isiaka, the consensus aspirant of the Ogun West senatorial district for the governorship office, revealed that currently Ogun State Gross Domestic product (GDP) was the ninth largest GDP in the country estimated at US$10.47billion.

He said with the state’s active population of 4.26million, its nearness to Lagos and the expertise he was bringing to the administration as an investment banker, Ogun State would be amongst the top four economies in Nigeria.

He said that if the natural and human resources were well harnessed in line with its comparative advantage, Ogun State’s economy shall compare favourably with the economy of Ghana ($31.23 billion) or Cote D’Ivoire ($32.8 billion) and shall definitely be bigger than the economy of Benin Republic ($12.5billionn), or Mali ($14.18million).

Where is that man from Ghana, when I said the economy of Ghana is less or equals to the economy of Agege(a run down suburb of Lagos) that cannot be further from the truth how much more comparing the whole of Nigeria with Ghana undecided huh
Politics › Re: "Do Not Vote For A Muslim President" - Pastor Paul Adefarasin by KnowAll(m): 9:44pm On Nov 21, 2010
MKO, may he rest in peace, the peace denied him by Hausa/Fulani people, I mean.
He could have been one of the best presidents we've ever had as a nation, and because of that, you know what happened to him.

Did you miss my point about Hausa/Fualni muslims vs southern muslims?
The Hausa/Fulani muslims are my reference point, and that cancer group must be truely reduced in power and proportion.
But that is not the refrence point of that dumb pastor u seem whole heartledy to support with so much vigour. How can u seperate one muslim from the other when it is clear the pastor is refering without mincing words to all muslims.

I do not see any reason why 120 million Yoruba speakers should Learn Swahili a language spoken by less than 40 million.

Even Pakistani meat sellers in London have learnt many Yoruba or now Generic Nigerian words like when haggling price with them over their wares they would say, why are u doing like " ijebu" other words commonly used in markets around London include shaki-tripe, pormo- hide of an animal, oga- boss, so don't let people decieve u with dat Swahili nonesense. The most widly spoken language in Africa is a Hausa but becos they have not got literal giants like Soyinka & Mazuri it is understandable y they are relegated to the background.  That clearly makes Yoruba d language of choice since in numerical strenght it is second to Hausa.

Becos u happen to be in d minority of Igbos stuck in d east does not mean majority of your brethren in Yoruba land does not speak yoruba, in fact it is commendable, u should be proud of your bi-lingual nature not disputing a well known fact or how else can u sell your products if u refuse to learn d local peoples language.

Even your reverred Ojukwu is a sound Yoruba speaker.
Politics › Re: African Lingua Franca - Between Hausa And Kiswahili by KnowAll(m): 6:46am On Nov 21, 2010
There is no reasons why Africans should not learn to speak 4 out 5 major languages those languages should

1. Swahili

2. Hausa

3. Yoruba

4. The fourth largest language, I know Yoruba is either d second or 3rd after Swahili. Whilst Swahili can be said to be spoken in about 10 countries, Yoruba & the influence of Lagos has made it a language if not spoken but understood by 80 to 100 million rivaling Hausa, I would not be suprise Yoruba is actually giving Hausa a run for it's money.

Many other tribes in Nigeria can speak Yoruba fluently, Igbo's , Beni's & Hausa's are versetile inthis language I contribute to the influence of Lagos.

Hausa on d other hand is 2nd language of the yorubas hence the reason why they share many words like "alaafia", wahala which might be borrowed from Arabic.
Politics › Re: Say No To 'NAIJA' - Akunyili by KnowAll(m): 6:12pm On Nov 19, 2010
It's very simple, this distinction between Nigeria and Naija.

Amos Adamu of the 'Cash for World Cup Hosting Votes' scandal is from Nigeria.

Mo'Cheddah, 18 year old singer/rapper who won the best video by a female artiste in the whole of Africa is an omo Naija.

Erastus Akingbola and Cecilia Ibru of the 'run this bank like my personal kiosk' saga are from Nigeria.

Stephanie Okereke and Genevieve Nnaji, some of the most recognizable faces on the continent are omo Naija.

Dipreye Alamieyesigha of the 'cross-dressing to escape from custody' fame is from Nigeria.

2Face Idibia, one of Africa's most decorated musicians is an omo Naija.

It's not rocket science to understand that young Nigerians have found a motherlode of nationalistic fervour in that name Naija albeit in a totally unexpected direction. It is a rallying cry for engendering a sense of belonging to our nation despite the fact that it has thoroughly failed us. Methinks, Dora should leverage the name Naija if she is truly serious about rebranding this country. We hear the South Africans going on about 'Mzanzi' all the time. no one has told them not to refer to their country by that name. And they have constant electricity too.

Coastal area who?!!!!! That is Ijaw land, always has been and always will be. Take your Oduwa nonsense somewhere else.
There is sand formation at the Western part of the Local Government extending from the Lekki peninsula in Lagos State to Araromi Sea-side and Zion Lepe, Agba to Etugbo and Ipare all, Mahin and Ugbonla the Eastern part of the Local Government Area can boast of the largest coconut plantation in West Africa. Ilaje Local Government is the largest local Government in Ondo State in terms of its landmass. According to the 1991 National Population Census, the Local Government is one of the most populated in Ondo State, with a population figure of two hundred and twenty seven thousand and thirty four (277,034. it has a shoreline covering about 180km thereby making Ondo State, a state with the longest coastline in Nigeria, Crude oil, which is the mainstay of the Nigerian economy.

Traditionally, it is grouped into 8 kingdoms namely: Mahin land under His Royal Majesty, Amapetu of Mahin, Ugboland which is under His Roayl Majesty Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom. Aheri land under the Maporure and Etikan land under the Onikan of Etikan, Odonla land under the Alagho of Odonla, Obenla land under the Olubo of Obenla, Obe Ogbaro land under the Odoka of Obe Ogbaro, Igbokoda under the Olu of Iggbokoda and Igboegunrin under the Odede of Igboegunrin.

@ chyz

Lekki peninsula in Lagos State to Araromi Sea-side   - does Araromi sound like an Ijaw name to you, Ijaw's in Ondo State are visitors and are not natives. Yorubas are the majority in Ilaje.

Yoruba Kings

Olu of Iggbokoda - capital of LG and largest town - Yoruba

Ugboland which is under His Roayl Majesty Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom.  - Yoruba

Etikan land under the Onikan of Etikan - Yoruba

Odonla land under the Alagho of Odonla- Yoruba

Obenla land under the Olubo of Obenla- Yoruba

Igboegunrin under the Odede of Igboegunrin - Yoruba

I am not sure of the following:

Amapetu of Mahin - Not sure if they are Yorubas or ijo

Aheri land under the Maporure - not sure if they are yorubas or ijo

You can see out of 7 kings in Ilaje about 5 are Yorubas where u get the idea the area is ijaw is a mystery

Quote from Adefarasin,

Nigerians used to be the most educated people in the world until the likes of Abacha and the Murtala Muhammed came and scattered our educational system to slow down the South so that the North can catch up, instead of speeding up the North. We are sick and tired of politicians whose only objective is to fleece our public wealth. We h, ave selfish people, selfish parents and selfish leaders who do everything for themselves and nothing for their children and successors. But, success is not success unless there is a successor. May God deliver Nigeria from ‘eldership’ and from a leadership that is overweight, undiscerning and blind. Do you know why Nigeria’s vast resources have not yet been discovered? It is because if they are discovered now, these useless people in power will squander them. But God is waiting for David to deliver us.” - Senior Pastor of House On The Rock, PAUL ADEFARASIN, said two days ago as he called on Christians in the country to be involved in politics, especially the Presidency

Christian theocrats are no better than Muslim ones. Don't want to live under either.

What happens if you disagree with the theocracy about how you want to practice some aspect of the religion? Under a theocracy, religious disagreement is violating the law and probably gets you jailed or at the very least hurts your quality of life a lot.

Ya'll need to read up on the reformation and especially Martin Luther to understand why religion and politics don't mix.

Redeemed needs to stay out of politics; Jesus said the following for a very good reason: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=matthew%2022:21;&version=NIV;WHNU;

Someone living in Nigeria cannot grasp the erroneous howler masseurs Akunyuli has commited, you need to be in our shoes to grasped the magnanimity of these proclamation.

The Death of Catholism and the Anglican Church

The Yoruba people say: "Igbagbo ko pe k'a ma s'oro ile wa" meaning - Christianity does not bar us from celebrating our family (or community's) traditional religious festival.

Now that Islam and Christianity are the officially recognised and patronised religions, Nigerians take pride in putting on their best dresses on Fridays and Sundays to be seen in mosques and churches.

But, take it from this old horse, there is more to religious practice in Nigeria than meets the eye.

In the last few years Nigeria has witnessed a dramatic upsurge of apparent fundamentalism in Christian religious practice.

People are turning away from the orthodox churches and they are rushing to the Pentecostal churches in their millions.
The rush began with young people who were weaned on a new gospel of prosperity and miracles in college campuses.

When the new army of Pentecostal "born agains" graduated and were launched into society, the mainstream churches were caught napping; before they could feel the force of what had hit them, their former members were clapping and gyrating and sweating in new congregations.

The Pentecostal church has become a movement that is sweeping across the nation, catching both Christians and Muslims.

“

Rituals are no longer performed with goats and cockerels but with tithes and American dollar offerings”

Is Nollywood Nigeria's biggest export? It claims to be the fastest-growing religious sect in Nigeria; all others are merely trying out strategies to halt the force.

Yet, the secret of the Pentecostal leaders' success was apparently simple enough: They studied the Nigerian.

The average Nigerian has a strong belief in destiny.

They hold it that however hard or lazily one may work, the will of the gods, as pre-destined, will come to pass in their life.

They do not take responsibility for anything - not even for the inevitable road accident when they drive drunk, nor for exam failure resulting from truancy in class
.

Therefore they believe that they must appease the gods at all times.

In the past, the appeasement was to the family or communal deities.

Those rituals are now out-of-date. Enter the Pentecostal church.

The pastor or prophet in designer silk suit from Milan has taken over from the village diviner and rituals are no longer performed with goats and cockerels but with tithes and American dollar offerings.

I doubt very much that Adeboye has a hold of his church members. The church is made of people of different ideologies, ethnicities and creed. So they don't think alike. Apart from that RCCG does not have the kind of influence that Catholic, The Emir and co have on their people. If the pope or Cardinal Arinze endorses a candidate you can be sure that at least 40% of the Igbo population will go for that person.
The good thing about spirit filled, speaking in tongue born again sons and daughters, even their parents would not be able to tell them to vote for someone else if Daddy GO confirms through prayer and fasting this is how we shall cast our vote come 2011.

Do not misconstrue throwing our weight behind a candidate as equals to winning an election, after all we are only 20% of the electorates(the Pentecostal Family as a whole ) anyone of the old charlatans and crooks can capture 50% to 60% of the votes making them the eventual winner, but our little strength should not be taking for granted.

Unlike mainstream Nigerians who are busy fighting each other, Yoruba’s are on Igbo’s throat and vice-versa, born again,  spirit filled Christians who speak the heavenly language of tongues have an unbreakable bound,  those from the North are brethrens to those from the East,  and those from the East are brethrens to those from the West, we don’t need your worldly prejudice and divisiveness in our little heaven of righteousness,  we are all brethrens b4 the lord and we would stand for each other, no man can separate us,  once again there is strength in numbers.

The same catholic that  you so exult are they not the ones bludgeoning people to death all over the East, those are not Catholics, in fact Catholics like Anglicans is a fast dieing faith in Nigeria,  hence the atrocities all over the country.

The emirs have never voted together.

How many of those are eligible to vote, legally speaking? The man holds nobody's vote and even if he does, it will be tyrannically of him to force people to vote for a particular candidate. What About the sultan of Sokoto who is the spiritual head of  of  50% of the  nigerian population. Not the mention the Roman catholic church that controls over 25 million nigerians and over 60% of the south eastern population.

RCCG does not even have more population than the  Anglican church.Besides your analysis is misleading because even if the RCCG has 5m members I seriously doubt that up to 505 of them have attained the voting age of 18 yrs
Redeem is a new age church,  unlike d sultan of sokoto or d catholics in d east, d members of redeem are born-again xtrains who heed to every word of their General Overseer obviously through d parish pastor. Unlike d catholic of d East, how many have actually dedicated their life to d church, many are Catholics because they were born a catholic, a large proportion of d sole called 32 million Catholics have never been inside a church 4 decades, or how come d society in East has degenerated to almost anarchy in d case of Abia State if d citizen of this state hold on dearly to the tenents of catholic teaching.

Kidnapping has over-run d whole SE Nigeria. It was once a time dat people fear God in the East that is a bygone era. On the Sultan of Sokoto, Kano & d NE has never voted with Sokoto, check all d previous election so saying d sultan of Sokoto is d spiritual head of muslims in Nigeria will not hold.

A Pentecostal preacher from Nigeria has made big plans to save your soul.
You may never have heard of E. A. Adeboye, but the pastor of The Redeemed Christian Church of God is one of the most successful preachers in the world. He boasts that his church has outposts in 110 countries. He has 14,000 branches—claiming 5 million members—in his home country of Nigeria alone. There are 360 RCCG churches in Britain, and about the same number in U.S. cities like Chicago, Dallas, and Tallahassee, Fla. Adeboye says he has sent missionaries to China and such Islamic countries as Pakistan and Malaysia. His aspirations are outsize. He wants to save souls, and he wants to do so by planting churches the way Starbucks used to build coffee shops: everywhere.

"In the developing world we say we want churches to be within five minutes' walk of every person," he tells NEWSWEEK. "In the developed world, we say five minutes of driving." Such a goal may seem outlandish, but Adeboye is a Pentecostal preacher: he believes in miracles. And Pentecostalism is the biggest, fastest-growing Christian movement since the Reformation.

No wonder Buhuri came to see this man of God who is purported to have 5 million members in his Church in Nigeria. This estimate is the adult population not counting the youths in the Church. It means Adeboye has hold of 8.4% of Nigerian electorates,  if 60 million Nigerians are registered to vote and they vote.

Obviously this population goes down if the number of voters increases, I think in the last exercise, 2007 we had 72 million Nigerians who voted nation-wide,  which means Adeboye had 7.1% of all votes in Nigeria, this is a considerable bloc which any candidate worth his or her salt should not ignore,  if that candidate is positively looking to win the elections.

If one were to take the total votes of all Pentecostal Churches in the country as one huge wholesome bloc,  that means, a figure of 20% of all votes cannot be far-fetched  a considerable figure NO candidate running for the Presidency should ignore, that is wholesome and amazing.

That is some clout.   undecided
