My broda, my story is absolutely true and its as recent as february this year. Sue a state govt, you say? Are u a nigerian @ all? I'd rada leave it all to God and concentrate my efforts on oda productive ventures.
@Ileke-idi, Nah, I wasn't expecting you to sit back and smile, in fact I kept going on and on, hoping to elicit a response from you and wen you finally did, I was like... WHEW!!! She finally responds. grin

Ufeolorun:

You appear very bitter cos yours isn't an open minded assessment.
Whatever happened to you there,we thank God you came out of the place alive cos going by your comment it seems your existence was basically
threatened.
You prolly went there with the arrogance and mind that this is a village but you were matched and surprised . There are no great architectural designs there but what makes a good community abound and that's where your resentment comes from
If you are not hard-knocked from where you are coming from, you are likely to enjoy Ekiti but if your expecting or need handouts well!
We know a lot of work is needed to make the state modern but I won't trade common and communal sense, pride, peace for modernity though I know they aren't mutually exclusive.
No need for those bitter words, Njàré àwé

Bro, I feel you. I served in ekiti for a whole year, in that one year I was constantly being victimized at work, experienced a terrible robbery by cultists, lost all I had worked for, got hacked in the arm, required 9stitches, no compensation, nothing. The scar is there, keeps reminding me of my ill-fated sojourn into the land of the ekitis. Not even a visit from my Z.I while I was in the hospital. I gathered the pieces of my life together, still undertook a community development project, designed a college website for a sec sch and trained the students in desktop publishing, no sponsors, nufn. I funded it all by myself. In the end all I got was a bloody certificate of commendation, still expecting the prize money (30k) promised us (myself and 10 others that did oda projects) several months after passing out.
Now how the hell do you want me to feel about ekiti and its people after all these? Fcuz its all just a personal opinion afterall but I'm still very much entitled to it. Just don't want any of these new guys to be under any illusions that ekiti is sum paradise cuz it aint.

Away with your nonsense if you have nothing other than your childishness to display.
Ekiti never disappoints. Can anyone feel the aggression? Now imagine serving in a place where 2 million oda ileke-idi's exist. You say anyfn negative about dem like dis, dem go take ur head do sacrifice for ogun ni. cheesy

I'll be taking your comment lightly. Where is the arrogance in what I have just said. I even made it a point to tell that and or concur to some raised points by previous posters that things aren't that fine there. I said Ekiti doesn't have much money compared to other states. How is that arrogance? Pray tell. At any rate, subsequent posters have attested to the situation in Ekiti so its no biggie what mindset you've got there. I've been to other threads esp those of corp members posted to the north. Most of 'em are lamenting. For those posted to Ekiti or anywhere down south, I think what is more important is having your life and staying safe rather than looking for trouble all in the name of fun. When you're in rome, you behave like the Romans. Enjoy your stay there. God be with you all as you go.
Bro... No be fyt nah. Oya ur state is d best in the whole world! Gold plated streets, diamonds everywhere. 35hrs per day electricity, and a robust economy dat employs all corp members into oil companies and pays dem 750k per month. Oh Ekiti, the land of peace and love. I hope now I've made you happy. Omo ekiti. grin

gbogboti: @all forget all d good face giving to Ekiti on this thread. EKITI NA VILLAGE. A very local-big village. I was once there on an official assignment. God! I said "oh my world" in reverse on getting there. All the best to you guys anyway. The only place that looks like an urban centre is Fajuyi area where there's MR BIGGS. Ta! The people there they try o.

My guy, God will bless you for that statement of fact. Let the indigenes keep deceiving them. Of course you cannot compare anywhere in the west to the north, up north is anoda story entirely. But let no one be under any illusions that being posted to ekiti is gonna be the best thing that ever happened to him/her. Dat the state was even created in the first place still baffles me. And the pple dere are so fetish, ehn! Kai, every morning like dis, na different bowls of sacrifice (ebo) I dey see for my junction. Dem too like juju for that town. Go and see for yourselves first, you'll fink u were taken bak in time into probably the precolonial era. A state where the governor's office is surrounded by mud houses... Eeeeeeeew!

Coefficient: All of you spewing rubbish here don't know anything. You're not grateful you were posted to a peaceful zone. Those posted up north would give anything to be in your shoes. You should be happy to that you got a non-volatile state and stop whinning. Better free your mind and go spned your 1 year jeje and try to make the nest of your time there. Ekiti doesn't have much money compared to other state so try and enjoy yourself in the few available fun places there. You could visit Ikogosi warm spring and some other places within. And stay outta trouble.

And yes! Am from Ekiti.

kross101: So was I too ooo, jus posted to ekiti batch B...pls update us on d happenins in ekiti state and the pay package and employment opputunities
Employment opportunities in ekiti are numerous. They have one of the highest number of schools in nigeria. Everywhere you go, school. I can guarantee you 80% of corpers posted to ekiti would end up in d classroom. And d pay package, its a handsome sum of five thousand naira a month. Even those in governor's office, house of assembly, dey all get 5k. I served in the teachin hosp so I was a lil fortunate, my salary was 30k. Apart from that, the only oda places where you can get more than 5k are the banks and private companies (wich are few anyways).

Ekiti for nysc Just passed out february, and I served in the teaching hospital in ado. Useless state, aggressive, proud, stuborn and unfriendly pple. Stingy men, ugly town, zero infrastructure, nepa zero, ancient buildings everywhere and top of it all, security in ado-ekiti is zero! Cultists everywhere. Mine wasn't a great experience but I wish you guys a wonderful stay in the "land of honour".
Career / Mainstreet Bank Sacks 800 by Kockane(m): 12:33pm On Jun 26, 2012
THE management of Mainstreet Bank Plc, formerly Afribank Plc, Friday, sacked no fewer than 800 workers despite the Federal Government’s directive to the management of the bank and organised labour to maintain status quo pending resolution of labour issues between the management and labour.

It was gathered that the sack came few days after the Federal Government through the Ministry of Labour and Productivity at a meeting in Abuja with the organised labour and management of the bank on the outstanding gratuity of staff of the defunct Afribank Nigeria Plc.

Meanwhile, organised labour, yesterday, asked the management of the bank to immediately reverse the termination or labour and its allies would shut down its operations nationwide, describing the management’s action as illegal and unprocedural.

Vanguard gathered that of the 800 affected staff, over 650 were members of the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions, ASSBIFI, affiliated to the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, while the rest were members of the National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Employees, NUBIFIE, affiliated to Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.

Vanguard gathered that the management just locked the affected workers out of the bank’s network, denied them access to their offices and asked them to wait for their termination letters through their email boxes.

Labour demands immediate reversal

Organised labour described the management’s action as unprocedural, illegal, and anti-labour, demanding immediate reversal or all the bank’s operations nationwide would be shut by labour and its allies.

At a briefing, yesterday, Secretary-General of TUC, Chief John Kolawole, said: “The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) views this act of Management of Mainstreet Bank Ltd as the height of provocation and lawlessness which is condemnable. Consequently, TUC unequivocally states and demands the reversal of these terminations and other anti-labour acts immediately, failing which TUC will mobilise all its affiliates, allies and resources to shut down completely the operations of the bank nationwide.”

He added “We are therefore appealing to all well-meaning Nigerians, Hon. Minister of Labour and Productivity, Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Director-General, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Cooperation (NDIC), The Managing Director, Asset Management Company of Nigeria(AMCON), Acting Inspector General of Police to prevail on the Management of the Bank before the bubble bursts.”

The situation really isn't as complicated as it seems. Most naija schools allow for deferment of studies. He shld apply, defer for a year or two, make some money, and complete his studies with watever he is able to save. Aldoe its easier sed dan done, good jobs are hard to come by, he really doesn't have much qualifications to land a nice job, I'd advice him to imbibe a lotta perseverence and be close to God, I'm sure he'll find a way. My old man sponsored himself thru school doin menial jobs, today he's a prof. Impossible is nufn, if he has God.

2sexy: This ain't a good way to help someone. You guys should commended him for taking a bold step for knowing what to do with his life and time. As you can clearly see, he is just starting out. How many people in Nigeria know what to do? How many of you here got it right the first you started something?

After that, you should then point out his errors and tell him how to correct the errors and also imrove himself to be a better writer, communicator and orator.

There are a lot educated-illitrates among us here on nairaland. All those laughing at the OP for words spelt wrong, your intention is right but with a bad approach. We should learn to give hope and encouragement at the slightest opportunity. Nigeria is a mess already. Don't make it worse by sending one to street.

Its not by knowing how to spell almost every word in the dictionary when you could hardly make an impact in the life of your fellow human.

OP, you can do it. All you got to do is watch what others have done and copy them. You do have to improve your spelling but it ain't that hard if you love to read. Just keep reading and before you know it, you could spell better. Watch and copy what others have done is only way to improve and don't let anyone fool you; you a great motivator. Yes you can!
Madam, there's an adage in yoruba language that says, "you check out what your benefactor is putting on before you accept a piece of clothing from him". I am looking to learn life skills from someone I can always look up to, someone I can aspire to be like, some I know has "been there, done that", not someone I'm only gonn keep picking out bombs out of his grammar. For a motivational speaker, he still has a long way to go, cuz impacting pplz lives isn't just about having sumfn tangible to say, buh also being able to communicate such ideas satisfactorily to his/her audience. So, don't blame pple if dey haven't been able to connect with him intellectually cuz he doesn't speak good english.

I will be extremely gutted if this is confirmed to be true......

Did Presidential Jet Conveying Mrs Goodluck Prevent Faulty Dana Plane From Landing Before Crash?
I just received this -

"Is there any way of getting confirmation about news I'm just getting that the Dana plane was distressed for a while but could not make an emergency landing because the airspace was closed for 2 hours for the Presidential Jet carrying Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan.

Private jet owners who had to hover in the air same time leaked this. This was apparently the reason local news didn't report the crash for so long till CNN and foreign news stations started reporting it.

My first cinema experience was frustruating to say the least. I went with my ex, just after we'd agreed to stop dating (a decision I grudgingly acceded to)... We entered, she asked where we should sit, foolishly, I sed we should go to the back, not knowin back seats are reserved for Hot young couples to make out. No sooner had d film started, my silly ex slept off, I started hearing squirms and moans ere and dere. Kissing, smoooching, romancing, to my left, right, front, back!!! I was left all alone to experience what, till today remains the most "sexually-frustruating" 2hours of my entire life!
