For eg if Martins is called back and makes the world cup, Yes he is older but, Mikel will definitely captain the team.

Even if Enyeama returns and makes it to the world cup, it is still logical for Mikel to be captain as he has spent more time with this current crop than Enyeama.

Mikel is the indisputable leader of this
crop both on and off the pitch.

Segun Odegbami predicted Yobo and Mikel to be captains of the Super Eagles in their respective times and these have come to pass.

It's a longstanding culture in the eagles for the oldest player to be captain and undisputed leader in the team, mikel can never be captain with an enyeama in the team. The older players have always been disruptive in our national teams or you think a mikel can set the rules for martins?

It's not a joke o! It has cost us real problems in the past world cups and afcon tournaments. You think all was well in the camp when yobo was present and enyeama was captain? Have you forgotten how enyeama quickly handed over the afcon trophy to yobo in 2013.

We can't simply afford those distractions in the world cup with the group we are in. Our players are not oyinbos for Christ sake despite playing in europe, na thick african blood dem get where seniority na big matter

How do we know Martins or Enyeama wouldn't accept Mikel as captain?? Besides I've never heard of Martins being a disruptive influence in the dressing room.

when i read this article i see more reasons why Enyeama shouldn't be in the team , i hope others can see it .... team spirit is key and Mikel has his loyalist and supports , bringing in someone higher than him in ranking will divide the team and break the team spirit among them , if Enyeama is really patriotic , he should INSIST and STAY AWAY from the team for good ... and anyone that wants him back is against the success of the Super Eagle .

I will lose total confidence on Agali if he advocates Obafemi Martins' invite. In 2014, Martins was much younger and playing in a more competitive MLS, yet he couldn't make the Brazil world cup team. Now, they want us to invite the over 40 year old Martins to camp! What for exactly?? Maybe I should come out of retirement and try my luck with the team as well, because I am pretty sure that I am not older than Martins by much, if at all

This is quite refreshing to read. Like I had said several times, Rohr isn't gonna invite more than 3 new players to the World Cup. The core and the base of the team is already formed. Right now, I can only thing beefing up the goalkeeping dept., Joel Obi, and probably Felix Uduokhai. The tired legs like Martins and Uche should be allowed to retire in peace.

Retired Nigeria U23 international Emmanuel Babayaro is at it again after criticizing the Super Eagles coaching staff led by Gernot Rohr for not doing a good job as regards to the goalkeeping department.


During the World Cup qualifiers, Rohr utilized three goalkeepers Carl Ikeme, Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who was in goal for the last four matches, while Deportivo de La Coruña youngster Francis Uzoho played the second half of Nigeria's win over Argentina last month.


''I must confess that I am not comfortable with the three goalkeepers we have in the team now,'' Babayaro was quoted as saying by Vanguard Nigeria, who made reference to Channels Television .


''They are not the best the country has and the coaches handling that department are not doing enough on them.''


Lille netminder Vincent Enyeama was the undisputed first choice goalkeeper for the Super Eagles at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups but has called time on his career with the national team.


Nigeria have conceded 26 goals at the World Cup, an average of 5.2 goals in a tournament since their first appearance in USA 1994.

Sergio Romero is Argentine goalie and he hasn't kept more than 10 games between the sticks for Man United from August till date. Does that make him any less of a keeper? Do you know he sometimes keep in EPL2 to keep shape?
This is Argentina number 1 here. Uzoho keeps for a B team that play games and he's seeing action that alone is a confidence booster

if he was not needed then and his quality was never needed to bail the team during those tough times....not now...do we need them.

One from each of these groups would be making it to the WC as far as I'm concerned.
